You realize Samsung's Android is completely different from AOSP Android, right? By the time Oreo ships to the S8 there will probably still only be like 10 apps that are officially updated for it (as in, they use features only available in Oreo). You really aren't missing much because Samsung already put much more inside Android. Because, you know, you paid top $$$

Yes sir I definitely know the difference ( NO DISRESPECT) that's why I purchased the s8+ ...I'm just overly anxious for the beta update more than others I guess.

Certainly NOT *****ing!!! I'm still scratching my head wondering WTF ppl are b!+C#!nG about my comments. Anyways I apologize for hijacking your post bro...thanks for the criticism ...

I remember a yr ago while on the s7e i was on this same boat waiting for Nougat. Took til atleast late Jan early feb to get N finally. Not to mention i missed the beta window. Filled up within minutes of release.
To say the least N is excellent and wont be anticipating like a junky waiting on oreo as such. I'll wait for the final release next yr. Love N. Hopefully they don't take NOTHING away from N. Just saying...

Yes, it's true.
They took almost one month for an 80 MB update, and today, 20 May, it's not released for all users but only for a bit of them.
It's really...normal .
Enjoy your update
So what?
Xiaomi is cheating on us. This is really bullsh*t, it is Android One phone and should get NEWEST android ASAP. Im starting to hate Xiaomi.

It is no crap, unless you show me a contract you signed in which it says they have to Release it in x months after it is publicly available.
Or show me a device starting with nougat which already has it.
Other than that people would complain if it has bugs. With Samsung, the note 8 hasn't even got 8.0 yet because it is too buggy.
So basically your post is bulls*** as we almost always get our security updates in the same month. Galaxy s9 is still on February afaik. Besides that 8.1 is still Oreo and not really worth that much anyway. Then again if it helps yourself with whining keep going but don't annoy others with it
Well it is kinda the point of Andoid One to always be up to date. Without all the manufacturer crap this should really be faster.

Nope.
The point of Android One is to have an android version closer to the specifications of Google, meaning zero or very little customization from the manufacturer.
Has nothing to do with updates. If you want updates, buy a Pixel.
Most devices are abandoned even before they are available to buy, and you complain because you have May update in... May?
What are you going to do with 8.1 that's so important? Besides, it's coming! We already have a beta for it. So what's the big deal?
Go buy a Motorola phone and enjoy 0 updates.

Each update that comes just changes Build No. And security patch date, you can't feel any changes expect that. Whats the point of such updates, they Fu*king just don't release a changelog, so only they the the changes they did.
I had moto G3, it had got 6.0.1 and got security patch till April 17, i don't know which Moto phone you are talking about.

Nope, i didn't mean that. Their are few bugs left you can find them on Forum, but they don't fix them first, secondly they adda new bugs, like the charging time has increased after April Patch by atleast 30-40 mins. Xiaomi just fails when it comes to answer question relating to updates ,features and anything, they just don't reply to them, with even a simple NO.
If any of you went to android one program webpage and actually read of it, there wouldn't be any stupid discussions.
It should have 8.1 few months ago already. Meanwhile were getting stupid security patches and nothing else.

About the charging time, I fail to see how an update could do that, or they changed something in the kernel (which I highly doubt). Seems to me like a hardware matter
Agreed.

The security patches are also legit or not thats big question. Who know's we possibly are getting updates with build number changed only?
You want fast updates? Buy a Pixel!
Xiaomi is known for it´s great specs/ price relation but it´s terrible in the update department, this varying given model x or y. As for our Mi A1, yes, updates are a little slow but still on time .

I had a Moto G³ too. I've always used custom ROMs with it. It was amazing but stock really sucked.
Xiaomi has the worst community in the world, no doubt.
Anyway, seems like the pre-oreo update, less than 100mb and after 3/4 days Oreo was released.

Android 10?

Who wants to guess when official Android 10 will drop? I'm going to say it will be sometime early next week!
you mean Android Q
I don't care, I will not change the naming scheme even if it's official.
I can't believe they stopped the dessert naming scheme
Absolutely disappointed
I'm going to say first week of Oct
Whenever the 7T is released
7T will be shipped with Android 10. For OP7 pro, who knows. I'd expect fast update.

That's not that far from beta4 to stable. I'm pretty sure Oneplus is working on stable 10 now.
Rumours say Sept. 3rd:
https://www.neowin.net/news/android-10-is-reportedly-launching-on-september-3
https://www.phonearena.com/news/Android-10-release-date-confirmed-official-Pixel_id118451
I'm guessing Open Beta will be around the end of this week.
OP will preserve the update for the new flagship (T) I guess. Normaly within a view days after release they stable updates will be availeble for the previous devices from the same release year.
This could be soon after 27 sept (presentation OP7T and OP7T Pro en OP TV.)
For now latest Developer Preview is out DP4. From this version on you can update via OTA to bèta builds. So you can try it but dont expext everything is working fine. Its still a preview. If you only want stable builds I presume you need to wait to the beginning of october.

He "doesn't like the new naming scheme". Let him stay in his bubble, it's fine. When the time comes and we're all referring to new builds by numbers (as Google is intending), he'll be stuck on letters still and we'll just sit back with our popcorn and laugh. I completely understand Google's reasoning behind it and even after being disappointed at first, the change makes sense. They said that not all desserts were recognized globally and not all regions have certain letters or know what order they come in. I just read an article the day that I found out about the news, if I can find it, I'll link it.
Edit: this isn't the exact article I was referring to, but close enough. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.th...ficially-announced-new-logo-wordmark-desserts

I really do not care what they call it.
I do know last year One Plus release Android "9" really fast.
We had it long before the Samsung losers.
You want the fastest updates Pixel but at least last year One Plus was pretty fast.

What are the chances the 7 Pro 5G will get 10 at same time as 4G version, we have seriously been lacking updates and still missing a lot of fixes that 4G version has plus still on June Security patch

I mean I got the August security update 1 day before the Google devices did, so you never know, it may be fast

upgrade to android 11 or stay on 10

it is so frustrating that they release phones so often with no chance to really refines them. then there is google that puts out versions of android before developers get a chance to master or migrate fully to the latter.
i heard the new storage security in android 11 can cause hiccups like slow loading and crashes due to the new storage activity due to the new security rules.
should i stay on android 10 just like so many stayed on android 4.x.x for so long to keep compatibility

I did and as I said I've never had any issues with an update in 11 years. I'm sure Sammy will have it figured out before they release it. All my phones have been rooted until the Note 7, and you take more chance flashing a rom written by some dev than an update from a major player.

But samsung does not work or develop the third party apps or what not that you install on your phone. Any unsupported app you use will likely be crippled(heard that loading times can be 100× longer to start the app) and any dev too aggravated to to fix it may stop supporting his or her project. Also most devs have not even cought up to android 10. Yea i hope to many update and google learns their error in this mess

If it does happen and I seriously doubt it, I'll just reflash with odin and restore my backup. My glass is half full, not half empty. I have friends on other forums running 11 beta on Pixels with no issues.
Am I in a pixel or oneplus thread? Note 20 ultra users most likely get Android 11 before March 2021 and chances are that any kinks should be ironed out by then. I don't understand why this conversation needs to happen this early.

I will absolutely update as soon as its available. I always sign up for the beta each year to get the update ASAP. Most people complain that Samsung doesn't update fast enough. Haven't heard anyone complain yet that they update TOO fast, LOL.
These concerns happen every year, and they always end up being a non-issue.
As far as app compatibility issues, that's the developers' issues. They are advised long in advance what they need to do to remain compatible with the current OS.

Yup! Sammy has stepped up their update game the last few years. I think last year they were pushing the official Android 10 before the end of the year to some devices. I think, but I could be wrong. I know it was earlier than the previous years.

LOL. I don't think I lucked out. I think issues with OS updates are far less common than you think. I'd say you are definitely in the minority.
I've been on Android since the original Moto Droid. I've had almost every Moto, LG, Samsung, Nexus, and Pixel. I've been through beta OS updates, official updates, side loaded updates, unofficial ported updates, you name it.
You're going back 5 YEARS and saying because an update broke your favorite application, that Google/Samsung updates too often? Is every update perfect? No, but they certainly don't break everything the way you think they do.
~
Android updates on Samsung phones are always an anti-climax. Samsung tend to have implemented all the best features that a new Android update brings already. What you end up with is a range of bugs or security features that break your apps. I will always go for the update that's offered but I am not excited about it or bothered if there's a delay in any roll outs.

No you are absolutely right. I'm out in Canada and if memory serves me right we got Android 10 at the beginning of January a month or so after the US. It was the years prior that the OS update came out with the S series release. And to your point Samsung has stepped up their game, tremendously. It's right after the Pixels and Oneplus which is not too shabby. And getting faster to boot. No complaints here. :good:

Thats what I was thinking, but couldn't remember 100%. Unless there's somd major issues, it looks like we're on the same timeline for Android 11, since the beta is already out for the international S20 series. US Note 20 won't be too far behind.

Spot on. What a wrenched mess.
My 10+ is still running well on Pie.
Google is insane to emulate Apple.
I don't think Google will fix it, another Vista.
Probably stay on Pie for the life of this phone and hope Google regains their sphincter control with 12 or 13...

I've backed up all my Playstore apps with APK Export because of them either being taken down in Playstore or turned into a bloody mess to adapt to 10/11.
I also have a couple trusted apps the use overlays, Q would render them useless or a pain to use.
I remember the horror of Vista and Lollipop... Pie is running very well, WYSIWYG
The most I'll do for now is an occasional reload of Pie if needed. All my data including the all apks/system updates are stored on my SD card so reloads are much easier. No screwing around with or waiting for Playstore. Any app that allows it's setup to be exported is also saved there.
With over 230 GB of data it saves a lot of time coping it from the laptop too.
I never have a phone without an SD card slot... you know like an Apple.

I hate that you guys fell this way. I think this is maybe the best phone I've ever had. I've been running Android 11 for a couple days and I must say it vastly improved this phone. It fixed a lot of problems I was having and I couldn't be happier. It sucks because we have one of the only phones that can make Oneplus, Samsung and Apple fanboys jealous... IMO....

Nono, it really is amazing phone but my problem is with my updates and allot of others, people can't update at all even with a vpn, and the customer service agent helpful at all, if it wasn't for people posting new updates I'd be stuck on may security

Oh okay, I thought we were losing a member. I don't know why the updates are so iffy. Some regions are like clockwork and some regions aren't getting anything. Yes, the customer service is garbage.

If the updates wore as consistent as other regions it would be my perfect phone! Without a doubt.
But I'm going to wait to December when we get the android 11 update, and hope I get it

Sucks you guys have to wait so long to get it. It's truly awesome...
Love the phone, I really do but for updates this phone sucks big time. Came from a pixel and samsung phone.. their updates are so much faster. Even for a samsung phone.
I hope the update for android 11 is a good one because I'm thinking to switch back to a pixel phone.
Let me get this straight? You want to sell your phone because you haven't had an update in the last couple of months ? Clearly you've never been a Samsung user I'm loving the phone, coming from a Samsung galaxy note 9. I now have a Snapdragon , decent base storage , and that dual battery / 30 minute fast charge is perfect for heavy usage, paired with decent battery life, +5 hour SOT over 24 hours consistently with all the bells and whistles switched on.

I got an update every month with my S10 plus , so yeah I so know, before the S10 updates wore crap, region settings gone no updates themes don't work fonts don't work breeno services don't work heytap cloud doesn't work, I spent 1100 pounds on this phone I expect top notch for paying that amount, because your not having these problems it's not effecting you so you can't really comment on this..... Have you looked on the updates thread about all the other problems?...

you guys living in EU should read this to understand :
"As a side note, due to limitations of the GDPR, European users will not have access to the beta version of the software. Even if you have an eligible device, you’ll need to wait until the stable rollout of Color OS 11 before you’ll be able to install it. Users outside of Europe will be able to try the open beta if they wish."

But Oppo swear they will release stable version before end of 2020.
Luckily im using Fx2P asia version . I have to say COS11 is really nice update and this device is stunning

oh wait what
Im using CPH2025 and i got update to COS11 , im living in Vietnam
Try change VPN to VN ? which version are you in ?
I think oppo should be quicker with the updates inc security patches.
I remember reading this was one area they were looking to improve on.
I can't wait for colorOS11 but December is quite far away, hope the western market it get it much sooner.

Question Whatever happened to the March stock update?

Its later then normal?
no march update usually date ask google please then tell us why
I'm over it Samsung ultra is coming up soon
Is there something cutting edge and beneficial enough to make someone change their life in the update?
My concern is my brand new pixel buds disconnecting and reconnecting constantly. Think that a firmware update on my buds would be more important. That's just me though

Got my wife the 23U and no noticable difference from the 22U. Just an update to what was already created. Agree with you 100%.

QPR3 kicking off on the 13th, do the math.

Exactly, I don't understand why people are all up and arms about the monthly being late. Are you in a rush for something? If you have ants in your pants and itching to update something, just reflash your current version to curb your addiction. Everyone needs to relax and stop opening meaningless threads. Be patient and just wait for the update to come out.
Well, maybe because one of the reason they bought the phone is that it should be the first to get each monthly security update. It's google update for google products after all.
Turned out, this month, my S23U is getting update faster than my P7P.
Am not itching or b*tching about update. I just find it funny that google is lagging behind in an area where they should actually excel. Not to mention they only have less than 20 phone models in their portofolio to manage as well. Lol

And how many of the 1 million Samsung devices did get the update this month?
Samsung is known to have a history of taking back or stopping updates due to massive problems. Google isn't the best update company too.
Better late and stable than early and buggy.

Well, consider that samsung, within one month, sold 1.1 million unit of s23 series alone globally, and those series been updated/getting march 2023 update,
i'd say, 1 million then.
number aside. I agree about being bug free. Which, surprisingly, exactly how it goes so far for my s23u.
Why do people talk about Samsung Phones in a Pixel Forum?

Probably the same reason people talk about Pixel in Samsung forums. Justify a purchase, feel the need to lord it over if something is presumed better on one, really like their phone and want to convince others to like them too, tribalism, cult status.. all kinds of things. I just take it as entertainment on a Sunday morning. I do like the size specs on the S23 mini but then again it's a Sammy so...
As for the topic at hand I think if Google at least gave a reason for the delay that would appease many folks but that doesn't seem to be forthcoming. There are always little bugs we're hoping to squash with each monthly and maybe that's why everyone is wondering when. Even the columnists at AP and 9to5 are wondering and mashing the update button so for people to say just wait, what's the big deal, cool your jets etc. it is a little disingenuous.

the one big important thing against Sammy is Knox and Warranty lose when bootloader unlock. You w8 big part of new product because you want to keep warranty.
Unrelated to the update scenarios, I'll say this...I had the pixel 5 and swapped to a Samsung note 20 ultra which I used until getting the p7p. If I'm honest, the note has a way more premium feel to it, holding it, looking at it, using it blows the p7p out of the water. I've been swapping back and forth between the 2 and even at 3 cycles old the Samsung holds it's own.
