I enabled lift to check notification gesture using an app. - Xiaomi Mi A1 Guides, News, & Discussion

Lift to check notification gesture was a great feature on my Nexus 5x. It is not present in mi A1 but I found an app called 'ambi turner' on play store. I configured this app to wake up ambient display when phone is taken out from pocket. I'm not sure what is the impact on battery life but seems okay so far. For all features (including lift to check) I had to buy full version but I'm satisfied with the free features. You can try this app if you miss lift to check gesture.

It works well but I will have to report back on how it affects battery life. Thanks for sharing.

Can try gravity screen too.. works great wid mi A1.

Battery life was affected with Ambi Turner.. it wasn't bad by any measure, but still noticeably enough that I had to uninstall it..
It was sipping about 1% an hour overnight, compared to 2% over 8 hours before I had it installed

Yeah you are right, I am also seeing a little drain on stand by. Other than that it works flawlessly.

I'd be happy to see it baked into Oreo with DT2W ambient display like the Pixel

[Q]Knock on / Double Tap to wake

Hi, I noticed that phones from lg, g2, g flex and phones from sony, tablet z, z2 all have double tap to wake. I know we have touch control and dt2w/s2w but what I'm worried is that there's the battery drain issue. Or is the battery drain issue fixed yet? Is it stable enough to be used as daily driver? Thanks.

It drains battery on those phones too (probably). At least on the Nokia Lumia phones, there's a warning when you enable that that says "this has a significant impact on battery life" or something really close to that.

I know they will drain battery regardless but I was just tempted to cross the line as i saw someone with touch control switched on but he had only 2% battery drain over 8 hours with elementalx kernel. Thats why I'm asking here to confirm what i know.

That's probably right. It shouldn't drain more than that. I had it on my N4 and I never really noticed any battery drain when using it. This was using the "nexus touch control" app.
I can confirm that Touch Control has no noticeable effect on battery life.
there will be some battery drain because the digitizer must remain on.
I used the DT2W when I was running Bricked Kernel. At that time there was a significant impact on my battery. I don't know if there were improvements since then cuz I haven't used it on any of the kernels I've tried since. I've never tried Touch Control
Just got paid touch control app. On slimkat and I let just install the stock modified kernel so it works.
Works great! Love it! I missed active notification on my Moto x and not having to use my power button. And now I can double tap to wake. Much better.
I'll report my thoughts on battery drain after a few days. Might try a better kernel too.

Well, night one with touch control installed I lost 20 percent over night in 8 hours. Coincidence? Touch control doesn't appear to be the culprit in gsam, but its all I changed. Gonna keep monitoring.

All I hear on any forum is good things about the Moto X, even people who comment on Engadget love it, and they seem to be very brand oriented people (apple, samsung) eg; (no removeable battery plus sd card= BUST) in every comment section.

Can I suggest elementalx kernel? they have a power button toggle for double tap 2 wake. which is useful when you are not going to use the phone for a long period.
Thanks for the feedback, hope to hear from you soon!

Looks like I'll have to bring my charger to work..

So I got the s8+ two days ago and I gotta say, I'm not that impressed with the battery, my nexus 6p was more reliable.. Just got home from work and had ~17% left with 3.5h sot. This means that when I get home from work I'll have to charge my phone for half an hour atleast before I can go out and enjoy my spare time, I can't just go out straight from work
Anyone have any pointers?
Some key notes, no wifi at work (working within the government in Sweden is retarded)
And the 4g is pretty weak.
Brightness is around 50% and I have disabled bixby and 100 other services (package disabler)
Played games for like 1h
Some browsing, no video watching
Nobody called me during the say because I'm an asshole
That's pretty much it
Two days isn't really a good test to see what the battery life will be like. Especially since you are installing apps and setting up the phone.

I suggest use a black theme to save battery, as AMOLED screens doesn't need much power producing black color.
Also in the bottom of Battery settings, there's "always sleeping apps". Add all apps here that you don't need running in the background.
Also disable mobile internet if not needed, or at least turn on data saver.

Yeah im happy both of you responded to me, I do realize that 2 days is way too soon to judge the battery, and I am not going to do so, you are both right and I did follow the advice you posted, got all the apps I don't need running in the background etc! Thanks guys, let's see if I end up with more %tomorrow after work
WOW! I wonder what's draining you so quickly? I'm getting right at 7hrs SOT with no WiFi and marginal cell service at work!
You must've disabled an app that keeps pinging the system. Try to enable all apps and go from there. You shouldn't have to disable anything. Just watch for resource hungry apps like Facebook or Snapchat

Yeah im not enjoying this.. it's been 3 hours, barely used the phone and im down to 80% already (30 min sot)
I renabled everything in package disabler again, won't be using it untill people get more comfortable and researched in the subject of matter.
4g signal is pretty bad at work though, and these idiots dont have wifi lol. (getting like 1-2 bars)
Maybe it was package disabler causing the problem, if you disable something which something else relies on it might constantly try and connect to the disabled package causing battery draining
if you do continue to have a poor experience i definitely suggest using a pure black theme, This will boost your SOT buy a few hours minimum

I did re-enable all apps within package disabler again in the morning, im at 65% now thats 5h battery usage and 1.5h SOT.
How are people getting 8-9 hours SOT... HOW
also I am using a black theme atm, it's the "high contrast" on samsung theme store
I appreciate the help
You may have a dud. I'm coming from a 6p too and I usually have about 30% batter at the end of the day when I was shutting down right before leaving. I run a dark substratum theme with brightness at 35%. I get 6hrs but I stream video and game off and on.Give it a few days and if things don't improve try a new one.

Hey man. I had this same issue when i bought my phone. Apparently my phone wasn't going into deep sleep mode. Install an app called CPU spy and you'll be able to see if you're phone isn't going into deep sleep due to an app. If your phone is going into deep sleep but you still have battery drain like that. It could be a defective device. Btw the issue I had was facebook app. I disabled it and now I'm getting at least 8:30 hours sot.

I'll look into that theme, thank you for the tip Vermicious!
I am going to install cpu spy, I do use facebook, i dont know why tbh, might actually disable it and might just use the messenger app whitch is the app i pretty much only use anyways (for social media)
I have verified that I can return the phone unlike my note 3 that I bought a couple of years ago (battery laster 4 hours first charge, wanted to return it but since i had peeled the plastic off they rejekted it lol, such dicks xD)
Other than the battery being a big off the device is absolutely incredible, I am happy I gave samsung another chance, (I had sworn to never use a samsung device again after the note3)
again, many thanks for taking your time to look into my issue!

Battery Drain Op6

Hello everyone, I was recently inrroduced to the world of rooting, modding and installing custom roms and kernels to the device so I may sound like a noob here and there . I have a issue with my one plus six running stable oos 9.0.2 where I think I habe have high battery drainage, there are people who claim that their op6 lasts a whole day at one charge but I being a heavy user have to charge it up to 3 times a day. I have currently rooted my op6 with magisk installed and the list of mods is attached below, also the bbs stats are attached too along with all the necessary information, I am currently on the Ex kerenel Manager and have the battery settings turned on along with advanced optimization. Also I am using the lawnchair launcher v2 with pixel 3 live wallpapers coupled with the mod provided for aod . Can anyone tell me what should i remove to make my battery life more optimal or if my battery is fine.
So 10.2% in one hour, while playing pubg. Seems normal.
Yes, thats fine but the idle drain is way too high.

Have you also tried to disable the second Sim?
The pixel live wallpaper will do a number on battery.
Two Sims, live wallpaper and aod. You problem is right in front of you.
The AOD will suck quite a bit of battery, for me during the day i get around 2/3% par hour of standby. My graph looked like yours at first.
But, try putting it in you pocket when you don't need to have it on a table, etc. With OOS 9.0.2 and Franco Kernel, i get 0.42% per hour of standby while phone is face down during the night and thus AOD disables.
I'm not even trying to maximize battery, have Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and other apps running, Wifi + LTE, location disabled, with a fresh install of latest OOS stable and Franco Kernel r13 without tweaking anything :good: And i also use the Pixel 3 wallpapers, wich by the way look amazing used with the AOD.
Screenshots for illustration.
The OnePlus is not designed for Always on Display, but even with that, it definitely shouldn't be empty in 6 hours. But with heavy gaming, I believe the phone life tested at about 5 hours. You should see what it looks like when you don't game.
I get about 8 to 10 hours Screen on Time with with browsing, facebook, and casual use. I have 1 Sim, no live wallpapers, no Magisk modules. I also disabled the Ambient Display on lifting phone. (I probably did a few other small optimizations, but can't remember)

No, I checked on my partial wakelocks and they are running net scheduler max for a 3-5 minutes in an hour and I can assure they are not the problem.

Wow Dude , your phone ui looks quite minimal and clean, are you using any launcher or icon pack? Also i have my location turned on always so can it be a deal breaker? Now as I focus, i think location too is sucking the damn battery off. Also while using Franco kernel do you have any problems with the brightness, I can't seem to disable low brightness while using the manager. My idle standby is too damn high thought averaging 2-3% even with the aod off. I think I mighy now consider a clean format.

I'm just using OOS 9.0.2, OnePlus icon pack and stock launcher, everything stock !
Location services seem to use quite a bit of juice yes, saw very good results while disabling them.
Yeah I saw this brightness thing in the Franco app, but looks like it doesn't do anything, or it's a bug. I flashed blu.spark and the brightness is exactly the same ! I wouldn't pay attention
Idle standby on my end is 0.5%/h with Franco and Blu.Spark. So it's definitely ROM/setup related ! A clean flash should solve it !
Try Servicely from Franco to revoke WakeLock authorization for apps, I feel like it helps a ton with social apps too !

hey guys I have huge battery drain issues and I can't figure it out. I am using a second sim, but I need that second sim (is there a way to disanle it, so that i can get phone calls?)
Did a clean flash yesterday, hoping things get better, but nothing. my phone used 14% in 6.5 hours . BBS shows me Net_scheduler, I tried somethings there too but no success.
what could else be the problem?

Considering you just said 14% in 6.5 hours of idle drain, it is a bit high though. Have you any mod installed or have Aod by chance, also how long does the net scheduler work? Also do check the summary for if the phone goes into the state of doze or deep sleep, id it does the problem might be with kernel wakelocks, i tried disabling the wakelocks as per the boeffla wakelock and ffs I can notice differences.

yeah, I get about 2-2.5%/hour on idle.
I should mention my setup, sorry:
OOS OB7
XxX installed, with disabled kernel tweaks
blu_spark kernel, but had also smurf no difference
I flashed a debloater from Tomatot (thought it might help)
no aod
Well, my phone is awake(screen off) quite a lot, but not too much, saw some others with insane battery life (not expecting that) with similar Awake time.
Sorry to ask this noob question, I am fairly new to this.
In BBS I see repeatatly net_scheduler , gcm, nlpcollectorwakelock, ddscardselectioncontroller.
Boeffla isn't it just for OP3-5T?. are there other settings I could change in tje kernel manager etc?

Do you get that on Wi-Fi or also on mobile data? I get about 0.8-1%/h on Wi-Fi and up to 2%/h on LTE+ without music playback on OOS 9.0.2. i can tell you it's mostly an app that hides itself in the stats
E.g. Pokémon Go's adventure sync used GPS and datan regularly resulting in an awful 4%/h drain.

No there is no always on display, only ambient display. There was a work around for the 6T but it had a lot of issues. I wouldn't buy it if that's a feature you just have to have.
Ambient only, no module as of now for native AoD, just apps in playstore
Try Always on Amoled from the playstore, pretty straightforward, been using it for a few days now.

Hasn't been too bad, couple extra % here or there but with the rapid charge on the phone I don't worry about it. I would say it's similar to my Note 9/S10 +.
Always on Amoled is what I use and I have zero issues with battery life or the app itself.
Always on amoled is great but breaks lift to wake for stock ambient display functionality. Need to tap the screen or press power to get the fingerprint scanner to appear for a scan. So close to being a perfect AOD solution for OP devices.

For me it's still super good, using it often enough, start with 90, go to bed with 50-70% depending how much I used it (where with 50% it was a lot!)
I do have all the wiz disabled plus a load of google stuff.
I stumbled onto AccuBattery Pro and am glad it spells out discharge rate in percentages. Yaa... Camera is the most at 17%/H. Next is the Phone at 5.6%/H. Sitting near wi-fi most of the time, I suppose I cheat the phone's ugliness. And I just turn mobile data off with Better Internet Tiles. Now days I sit at home a lot and the cell towers are far away and crap. Damn. At work at the credit union, the cell tower was actually on the roof !

Idle drain here is about 0.6 %/h, satisfying enough for me. Nothing tinkered everything on stock. I just don't use AoD. WiFi and two SIM cards always active, no flight mode. Don't need Bluetooth hence off as well.
And of course no snake oil like Naptime.
