Hi, I noticed that phones from lg, g2, g flex and phones from sony, tablet z, z2 all have double tap to wake. I know we have touch control and dt2w/s2w but what I'm worried is that there's the battery drain issue. Or is the battery drain issue fixed yet? Is it stable enough to be used as daily driver? Thanks.

It drains battery on those phones too (probably). At least on the Nokia Lumia phones, there's a warning when you enable that that says "this has a significant impact on battery life" or something really close to that.

I know they will drain battery regardless but I was just tempted to cross the line as i saw someone with touch control switched on but he had only 2% battery drain over 8 hours with elementalx kernel. Thats why I'm asking here to confirm what i know.

That's probably right. It shouldn't drain more than that. I had it on my N4 and I never really noticed any battery drain when using it. This was using the "nexus touch control" app.
I can confirm that Touch Control has no noticeable effect on battery life.
there will be some battery drain because the digitizer must remain on.
I used the DT2W when I was running Bricked Kernel. At that time there was a significant impact on my battery. I don't know if there were improvements since then cuz I haven't used it on any of the kernels I've tried since. I've never tried Touch Control
Just got paid touch control app. On slimkat and I let just install the stock modified kernel so it works.
Works great! Love it! I missed active notification on my Moto x and not having to use my power button. And now I can double tap to wake. Much better.
I'll report my thoughts on battery drain after a few days. Might try a better kernel too.

Well, night one with touch control installed I lost 20 percent over night in 8 hours. Coincidence? Touch control doesn't appear to be the culprit in gsam, but its all I changed. Gonna keep monitoring.

All I hear on any forum is good things about the Moto X, even people who comment on Engadget love it, and they seem to be very brand oriented people (apple, samsung) eg; (no removeable battery plus sd card= BUST) in every comment section.

Can I suggest elementalx kernel? they have a power button toggle for double tap 2 wake. which is useful when you are not going to use the phone for a long period.
Thanks for the feedback, hope to hear from you soon!

Hey guys. I've tried multiple ROMs (Cyanogen, Cataclysm and Stock), multiple kernels (Faux, ElementalX and currently Franco R32).
I've got Greenify and most things are Greenified, I've got the latest play services, I've disabled location, I use Lux on 15% brightness for most conditions, I'm even on Wifi for most of my days. I have no idea where I'm going on, but almost every day my battery craps out after around 12-14 hours with almost always bang on 3 hours screen on time.
I've seen so many people reporting 4.5 as a low end of what to expect on a regular day, and I'd love that. I've posted my Better Battery Stats log below - if anyone could have a look and see what's causing my problem, or give any advice, that'd be so great. Thanks for reading.

4.5 wont be possible for everyone. Signal is the biggest drain besides screen

Run a few cycles of betterbatterystats and post your data in their thread. They are great at tracking down partial wakelocks and resolving the issues.
Make sure Settings, Wifi, Advanced, is set to No always scanning available. Set Location to Device only. Turn off Sync when not needed. Go in to your Settings, Accounts, and disable anything you don't need sync in the background.

While a bigger battery would always be welcome, the N5 certainly doesn't need one. I average 4.5 hrs screen time and can go 2 full days on a charge if I'm not playing any games. The only other phone I've owned (which is a LOT) to beat it in battery life is the Moto X.

I disagree. For a 5inch 1080p screen, the battery is underpowered, for its higher end specs. I feel like they should have powered down the screen to 720p and reduced the size is 4.7-8inches.
To each their own.

i get great battery life with my N5 better then my htc one.. better the my GS4 also.. yes i have a custom kernel but i dont undervolt or underclock at all.. and both my one and gs4 have custom kernels as well... the N5 beats any phone i have ever had in battery life and speed/smoothnes

What you're saying makes no sense. The Nexus 5 has been proven to last longer then an SGS4 which has a bigger battery, and the HTC one with the same size battery (under proper testing conditions) all while using a faster SoC. Do you troll the forums for those phones as well?
Maybe a Moto G or LG G2 would suit some people better for their increased battery life, but that doesn't mean you need to troll every thread on here with false accusations.
If you'd like any more proof on how the N5 battery lasts longer and is more efficient than competing phones of higher prices, just let me know.

Having had the s4 and HTC One, I can safely say the S4 has better battery life than the n5. HTC One battery life is atrocious I agree with you on that. Personally, I am waiting on the 2014 releases to upgrade.

You're arguing against facts but then that does not surprise me. SGS4 battery is bigger and get's less time powering weaker hardware then the N5, probably due to AMOLED and I've already provided the link which shows this. Proper testing conditions might not align with you're own subjective views but then that doesn't surprise me either.
It's personal views having had those devices. N5 is snappier but the battery is a disappointment. Why can't I have my own views?

no one is saying you cant have your own views. they are saying that your views are redundant facts. Of course the s4 is going to be better battery wise. anyone who bought an n5 expecting fantastic battery either didnt do enough homework on the phone or are thinking something along the lines of "oh em geez xda will have the magical bean to make my battery 10000000000x better then a phone with a bigger battery just because i want it"
as for the op, 3 hours of screen on time is pretty much average and normal for this phone. if you want anymore out of it either get a battery case or a different phone. though you can probably get more out of it by setting your network mode to "prefer 3g" instead of "lte".

I was just curious if you tried deleting the FB app for a any given time (like a day)...I suspect it is causing audio wakelocks well beyond a normal app. In the wakelock thread, it has been mentioned as one of the apps jettisoned for the mobile web version due to poor impact on battery.

Still didn't answer my question.
Disable anything and everything you don't use.
I've got tasker set to turn location on when I launch Maps (or any other app I need Location for) and turn it off when I exit that app, and have uninstalled or disabled every other app I don't use. You can also root, install xposed and use Greenify. I can get 3 hrs SOT, while using navigation with gps on the entire 3 hours, and have 40% left.
There is nothing wrong with battery on Nexus 5. It could be bigger, but it doesn't need it to have good battery life.
Since you've done most of that, you definitely need to run BBS to see what is draining it.
Edit: didn't see your log at first. Can you post battery graphs?

battery life is not dependent on what you flash. there is no such thing as a magic pill to flash to automatically give you good battery life. battery life is dependent on how you personally use your phone, how you personally set up your phone, what apps you chose to install, and very much depending on the quality of your phone/data connection.
...you bought and manually installed a new battery on your recently bought N5 before finding out what apps were causing the drain? Yikes. But yeah try better battery stats or wakelock detector to see what apps are draining it.
Mine's been off the charger for 29 hours so far and I still have 37% left. Depends how you use it. A good signal helps.

your battery life seems pretty average, not bad and not great. youll get about 3.5 hours screen on time total. sure, you can play with your settings/set up some to try to get it a little better. but, depending on your data/phone connection(quality of), you might not get much better(or you can get it much better).
You can also try going into your location settings and ticking the "Battery saving" mode.
I can confirm that data/phone connection quality has a huge impact.
At work my office is on the second of five floors with its windows faced to a very narrow court. So there is almost no connection and often the phone is switching between 2G, 3G and 4G all the time. If additionally the screen is on very often (due to messages, mails, etc.) the battery usually doesn't last longer than 5 to 6 hours.
A dutch guy . So am I.

K...just for one day do the following. ....start at 100 percent too.
Turn off location services. Turn off Google now. In the Google settings app, go into android device manager and uncheck both items. Turn off sync. Uninstall or freeze Facebook app and fitness app your screen shot listed. Freeze Google plus as well, if you're rooted. If not....sign out of it, or turn its sync off at least. Use browser for Facebook and google plus for the day.
Don't play ANY games.
Also, see how your signal strength is. If you are losing signal completely ....that will destroy your battery.
Do these things and see how your battery is. If its much better, then you can try turning things back on....one thing per day. And when your battery gets bad again....you know its the last thing you turned on.
See how it goes.

Lots of reviewers are talking about how the M8's battery lasted longer than the S5 too. Samsung needs to stop slacking on the software and give us a lightweight touchwiz. I absolutely love Sense 6 and I'm usually an AOSP guy. I'll probably try out GPE Roms once they're stable but honestly the new sense is everything I want out of android software. Minimal, clean, customizable, smooth and fast.

Don't get me wrong, I'm getting great battery life as well (though coming from a VZW GNex, anything would be an improvement). However...posting screenshots of how long your device has been off the charger with no other information (screen on time, app battery use) doesn't tell us anything.
Hell, I could leave my phone at home on wifi with the screen off and not touch it for the next 3 days, take a screenshot of any remaining battery life, and post it being like "OMG I got 3 days of battery life, this is amazing!" And it would be just about as informative and truthful as your screenshots (not including yours Evocm7, obviously).

Coming from a malfunctioning POS Droid Charge this phone is a godsend. I used to have to carry an extra battery just to get through an 8 hour shift at work starting on a full charge.

lol I came from a GNex, so we're probably in the same boat. Even on wifi with extremely minimal use (10-15m screen time all day, which with how slow and laggy it was I didn't really care)), I would be down into the 60%'s by bedtime. If I went to the gym with full battery, after listening to Pandora while doing weights, and watching Netflix during cardio, it would be into 20-30% by the time I left, total of maybe 1 1/2 - 2 hours.
I flashed Skyfall the other day after charging my phone to full, and by the time I was done flashing, re-installing everything from TiBu, updating a few out-of date apps, and setting everything up, it was down to maybe 95%. And that was with the screen on for probably 20 minutes straight.

I think taking into consideration the snapdragon 801 chip how it saves battery, sense 6 being light weight, if one needs to you have the choices of battery save mode and if that's not enough extreme battery save mode! This phone came built up from the floor up. Now if we just had the 1.56 software version with all the above included stock and operating correctly, I'm sure we would see even more battery savings!

There are very few "de facto standards" for anything in the Android ecosystem...which is why we like it. I use a combination of GSAM Battery Monitor with the root companion, and Wakelock Detector.

Well the screenshot tells us nothing. You'd have to give us all the battery screen shots. But from what I can see, 14 minutes on battery, a lot of screen use and some gaming... 3% isn't bad at all. You can't really judge anything on 15 minutes though.

Only 2 things affect screen battery use.
1) the amount of time you use the screen
2) the brightness of the screen.
So turn it down or turn it off.
Playing games will drop your battery fast. No way around it. ?

You can see they didn't play a game in their screen shot, where as you spent some time playing clash of clans. Gaming will always drain your battery quickly and this is not a unique behavior with the Nexus 5.
Also the higher frames per second your phone can achieve the quicker your battery will drain. This makes an interesting situation as once your phone gets hot and throttles down it will actually last longer as the frames get lower. If you were to limit the FPS or CPU clock speed you could actually game for longer.
Usage, Settings, and Signal determine battery life. This would be an example of how different usage will obtain different battery life.
so i perfer to have a battary case, this phone battary so tinty
Yeah i got that, thanks a lot guys!
Hey guys,
Last time I used a kernel with D2W was around mid 2014 and the drain was pretty severe (4-6%/hr?), I'm wondering if it has improved since then. And if it has, what do you recommend in order to use it and getting the most out of a single battery charge?
How could it? It's hardware related isn't it?
It will always be hard on an N5's battery. Even with the timeout options. (which don't make it as useful anyway)
My favorite feature on my M8 though. ?
Figured as much, but I thought it was worth asking just in case there was a miracle on the works.

You will still have a higher consumption with D2W but I do think that things have been improved. Give a try to ElementalX kernel and its Wake Gestures app. Maybe 2-3%/hr now.
This remains a hardware related matter.
