Nokia 5 flip case that works with hall sensor - Nokia 5 Accessories

The other thread seems be more about non-flip cases.
Has anybody succeeded in finding a flip case that uses the hall sensor. I am talking about cases that typically have a small round magnet somewhere that activate the hall sensor. This turns on and turns off the display automatically (on flip open/close).
I bought one off amazon: https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B074M9RHZV/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The case is OK. But, it does not trigger the hall sensor.
I tried taking a small magnet near the phone, around the bezel. No reaction from the phone. How is the hall sensor on this phone supposed to work ? Asus phones dont need any special activation for this. Samsung needed their special cover that has a chip (galaxy S5). Is something else needed to turn on the hall sensor ?

I emailed HMD global support and got the following link: https://www.nokia.com/en_in/phones/nokia-slim-flip-cover?selectedDevice=
A flip case is listed here for Nokia 5. Has anyone tried it/has any experience with this ?
Thanks.

Answering my own question. I could not find out an accessory that supports the hall sensor. But, did manage to find out where the hall sensor is!
The hall sensor is somewhere near the middle of the screen. On your lock screen, it is around the place that displaces the day of the week (Monday, etc). Strange place to have a hall sensor. But it works! Just try taking a magnet near this spot.
I guess, now I have to find a flat sticky magnet to stick on my flip cover

So, did you found some nice magnet? I have original Nokia slim flip case which doesnt have the magnet, i tried what you said and it works with normal magnet, but it it is too thick. It doesnt work with fridger stickers.
I also have slim neomdyum magnet, but i am affraid to try it.

I think the neomdymium magnet should be OK. I know that my previous asus's filp cover had a small (1/2 to 3/4 cm dia) neomdymium magnet. I would be more worried about the magnet hitting the screen when you close (not the power of the magnet itself). I also checked that a simple stick-on magnetic strip does _not_ work.

I made it work nicely! found a great thin magnet in notebook HDD, which o broke in half (about .2cm long and wide now) and then inserted it with ducktape in top of card pocket. Working flawlessly!
Edit: Just compass seems messed when magnet is near.

Ah, I was expecting it to be near the edge somewhere. I'll give this a go as I have a cheap flip case on mine. Does the magnet need to be quite strong? I have some sticky sheet magnets, so I'll maybe try one of them and see what happens.

Magnetic Tape - rather those which can be used to hang metallic tools on a wall than audiotape!! - works also perfectly: no worries about scratching the screen. Can easily be cut to proper size and maybe inserted seamlessly into any flip cover. Search for "magnetic tape roll"

Poetic Slimline Case w/ Pics [First Impression]

I just got the Poetic Slimline in the mail yesterday and thought I'd post my first impressions
I ordered off of Amazon for ~$10 USD shipped.

First off I think this is a VERY attractive case:

Some features:
Magnetic Wake Sleep
Microfiber lined cover and back
Cut-outs for all buttons, ports, and S-Pen
Cover doubles as a stand
So the case isn't exactly packed with features like a hand strap or an extra pocket for memory cards or a larger pen, no cutout for the speaker on the front for international models but it is very thin, and that's exactly what I wanted.
The outside is a fake leather but it doesn't feel very cheap, we'll see how long it holds up though. One thing that is nice though is the tolerances are very good, and the cover fits very nicely with the snap on case. Another nice thing is that the magnet also holds the cover on the backside so it doesn't flop around with the case open.
I'll try and update later if I encounter any issues but so far I think it is a very attractive and slim case, especially for the price
Thanks for your review. I have the same case for my Int'l 3G+WiFi Note 8.0 and agree. It's a very nice case.
The three negatives for me are:
1. No opening or hole in the cover for the phone earpiece speaker.
2. The main microphone hole that is next to the S-pen silo on the 3G model is just barely covered by the plastic of the case. I took a small jeweler's file and filed it down so it no longer covers the microphone. It's only covered by about 1mm.
3. I'm going to remove the SLEEP/WAKE MAGNET in the cover to prevent a Digitizer Dead Zone on the screen! See the posts in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2249587&page=3
I'll use an app that uses the proximity and/or light sensor to do Wake/Sleep functions.
Otherwise, I really like this case.

I'll be curious to hear what app you end up using for that. There are a few mentioned in the following post, but it sounds like one of them doesn't actually lock the tablet:

This device doesn't have a proximity sensor, so you will need to find an app for the light sensor. I haven't found them to work very well, but be sure to share your experience if you find a good one.

Interesting, the thread you linked only mentioned issues with the note ii but didn't go into detail. Is this permanent damage that occurs over time? Like will there be a problem even after I take off the case? Right now with the case on, I can use the S-Pen at every point on the screen, I checked using sketchbook there might be a 1 mm sliver on the side of the screen where the magnet is, but if that's all there is its not a deal breaker for me. However, if this becomes a permanent and/or larger "dead zone" I might consider another case.
EDIT:
My lovely artwork showing the dead zone

I can't speak with any certainty to the permanence question, but it seems like from your very helpful illustration that what you're seeing is the effect of the magnetic field along the middle of the right side, which does illustrate that having too strong of a magnet near the screen while trying to use it is problematic (which makes sense given that Wacom technology involves electromagnetic fields).
Per this post the location of the sensor for the wake/sleep magnet is towards the left. In theory, it should be fine to use a magnet there (assuming it isn't too strong) given that Samsung has build the device with a sensor for that purpose. But I'm just speculating.
I know im drawing away from the topic but assuming that the magnet does cause damage, would it still have the same effect if it were not on the screen? After much searching, I located that the magnet on my Moko shell is actually on the left bevel and doesn't even touch the screen itself..I'm hoping it doesn't effect my s-pen

That is a good point (regarding straying from the original topic): It seems like there is a lot of good and important discussion happening (and perhaps forthcoming) regarding magnet concerns (between the current thread and some other places linked above). Does it seem worth starting a separate thread (and linking there from here)? Just a thought (not a criticism or anything).

Does it hold well with the case open? Is there a lot of overlap/awkwardness holding it in your hand when it's open?
I just got the Note 8 hoping to use it both at home and at the office. Previously on my Tab I'd used a non-book TPU case at home (where I typically use my tablet most) and then swapped it out for a book-style case for work/travel. I'm hoping to find a case that might allow the best of both worlds and this one seems the thinnest/closest to that.

No there isn't much overlap with the cover open. It can wiggle up and down a little, but thats only if I move it intentionally. Generally it stays put

I'd forgotten about Poetic (have a couple of their cases for my Nexus 4 and iphone 5) and this looks about as nice if not nicer than the stock Samsung case/cover... and at $40 less! I initially bought a no-name "slimline" type case from Amazon (5 or 6 bucks) when I first got my GN8, but it was so crappy my N8 would actually fall out of it.... at the time there wasn't anything else but the generic folio type cases, which I hate. So I caved and got the $50 Sammy case, but now, I'm returning it to Bbuy and getting this Poetic if it comes in black!

Regarding the Poetic Slimline Case, Yes, I removed the magnet in the flip cover by using a sharp Xacto knife and cut a ~7mm "+" over the center of the magnet. I used a paper clip to find the exact position of the 5mm round magnet. I made my cut on the inside of the cover flap (microfiber side).
This part of the cover has a thin metal panel the full vertical length of the flap, so you don't have to worry about cutting through the front of the cover if you are careful. You can pry the little magnet off of the metal panel with the point of the Xacto knife. It is secured by a small amount of soft glue, like rubber contact cement.
After the magnet was removed, I lifted the microfiber cloth gently with the curved end of a paper clip and put a small dab of crazy glue on the metal panel in the center of the opening. Then just pressed the microfiber cloth down with my finger for a few seconds until it bonded and dried. I can barely tell that it was ever cut. Just don't use too much glue or it may absorb into the microfiber and create a hard spot that would scratch the screen. For that reason, it may be better to use rubber contact cement or another soft glue.
I did not remove the thin magnetic strip in the edge of the molded case that is next to the IR Blaster. It is far enough away from the screen to not affect it, and this magnet helps to keep the cover flap closed, though it is VERY weak and doesn't hold it very securely.
The folding cover flap also does not stay folded very well when you use it to prop up the tablet in either position. It will easily flop open unless you are very careful. The rubber feet on the edge of the Official Samsung Book Cover Case work well in this regard to keep the base of the tablet from sliding back as you press the touchscreen, at least on hard/smooth surfaces like a desk or table. However, they don't help much on any surface that rubber will not "stick" to.
I would actually rather have a kickstand case like the Case-Mate iPOP! for the i9100 Galaxy S II. It worked at just one angle, but worked in both horizontal (landscape) and vertical (portrait) positions.
And I don't really miss not having the automatic wake on/off function. It would be nice, but until there is more concrete evidence regarding the magnet affecting the digitizer, I'm going to play it safe. I purchased the 3G/phone version so it was quite a bit more of an investment compared to the WiFi only model. For now, I'm just pressing the power button on the side. It takes a very light press to activate. I haven't even bothered to install an app that uses the proximity sensor for this, like Screen Standby # Root.
Hope this helps.

No problem. So far the Official Samsung Book Cover Case is the slimmest and lightest of the cases that I've tried, besides a simple TPU case with no screen cover. Also, since it is the Official OEM Samsung case, they *should* provide warranty service for the Note 8.0 if the magnet does cause any problems with the screen.

I recommend you consider the STM Cape. It's really not bad at all in terms of extra bulk and it provides some nice protection (and there's no magnets!).

S5 Leather Case Auto Wake/Sleep Function Not Working with Wireless Charging System

I've just installed a third party Wireless Charging system into my S5. Works fine with both my usual cases. When I put the phone into my Samsung leather flip case, the auto wake/sleep function, where the screen goes black when the case is closed and wakes up when the case is opened, does not work. If I remove the thin charging receiver "card" from the battery and re-assemble the case, the auto sleep/wake function works perfectly.
Seems that something about the presence of the thin receiver coil card makes the function unusable. Magnetic interference between the coil and the small magnet in the case that helps the phone know when the case is closed, perhaps? Is this a known issue, any chance someone has a solution?
Thanks
AFAIK, you need to get receiver with 3 pins. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2778926
I woule like to know how the sleep function works when you close the case? Is there a magnet on the flip case or a connection pin on the back piece?

The magnet is on the flip side of the cover near the bottom, and rely on the chipset situated on the cover.

Review of Roocase Prestige Wallet Case for Galaxy S6

I received this item from the manufacturer in order to provide a review.
Packaging - Item was very nicely packaged inside a box with a magnetic flap that opens up. Inside the flap lists some of the features of the folio case. Inside the box, you’d find the folio case with a protective plastic over the black polycarbonate hard protective case.
Initial impression – The case was nice and feels good in the hand. It differs from the rendered photos slightly; the cut out in the front cover is wider to accommodate the sensors and LED notification light and the ID cutout is more of an octagon rather than a square.
Usage – Dropping my phone into the case, it fits great and holds my phone very well. It holds the phone on the side leaving the top and bottom uncovered. There is also an opening on the right side for the power button and also on the left for the volume buttons. I inserted my ID along with 2 other credit cards inside the 3 slot card holder and 2 – twenty dollar bills inside the sleeve flap. I couldn’t fit the bills all the way in so that it disappears but this makes it easier to take out. With just 3 cards and 2 bills, the magnetic tab had no problem closing but the flap on the case would not lay flat as you can see in the photos. This was not a problem once you put it into your pocket. I tried placing 2 cards into a single slot and was able to fit them just fine. This should be able to hold more than 3 cards but you may have an issue with magnetic flap and/or the cover. There was also no issues with wireless charging.
Thoughts – I had always wanted to try out a folio/wallet type case since I’ve forgotten my wallet at home several times before, but I never forget my phone. I thought it may be more convenient if I would be able to carry my ID, a few credit cards/cash, along with my phone instead of having to also carry around a wallet. I feel that this type of case may be good for those who do not carry a lot of cash around and use plastics. I deducted 1 star because they only have back PU cases. I wished that there were more color options for the black polycarbonate case instead of just black for the three different case options. Or maybe have clear for all three to show the color of the phone rather than hide it. I also wished it had the same cut out as on the rendered photos for the front flap cover that would cover the proximity sensor because I use an app called Gravity Screen which would allow me to turn the screen on/off using that sensor.
Great review, thank you. Very detailed and a lot of pictures.
I have been quite satisfied with my Roocase Glacier Tough. Roocase is clearly committed to making quality products.

sorry for my bad English.
Is it possible to close the case that the screen does not turn off (official case)?

Try to put something between the connecting pin in your case and your phone.
A small piece of paper or try to block the connection with tape.

Yes as he said it is just a magnet inside. If you can remove it or prevent the magnet from being sensed you'll be good to go. I haven't tried it before but you can try looking up "Demagnetizing a magnet" and follow the steps.
Edit: from another thread. A few people said this did the trick
"Anyway, I'm an engineer, so my basic solution is to disperse the magnetic field a little bit, so I've stuck a small flat bit of metal to the case at the point it lines up with the magnet in the lid when the cover is open - see attached photo for placement. I guess anything similarly thin would work, but it probably should be something magnetic to have an effect (ie. rather than aluminium foil). The case clips on around it as normal, the metal is hidden, and so far I've not had the phone turn itself off when the cover is fully open."

Will magnetic strap damage the watch?

I am planning to get a milanese strap for my S3 classic but worry the magnetic part will damage the watch if its too close to the back of the watch. I have seen it instantaneously stopped an analogue watch working when the magnet is attached to the back I am afraid it might affect the S3 too even if its digital (might affect its battery). Have you guys come across or aware of such issue?
I've been using milanese strap for more than 3 months now. No issues so far.
Sorry for replying to an old thread, but I just got a milanese strap for my Gear S3, and it appears the magnet will stop the bezel from functioning it is placed too close to it - my wrist is probably a bit on the small side, so the magnetic clasp can reach the mounting lug. If I adjust the clasp half a centimeter down from the lug the bezel works perfectly.
So......the milanese might affect functionality (if you have small wrists!). I will keep it on and observe over the next few days as I quite like it.
