How to clean dirty USB cable Connectors - General Questions and Answers

Hello this is my first time posting , i have an LG G6 and i got a USB cable type C , the problem is that i spilled Pepsi on it ! due to that happening now my phone won't charge using the cable .
The phone gives me a notification saying "charging Blocked"
I dried the cable but it still says the same , i think that the problem is that the connectors have Pepsi residue on them and they are sticky so the phone keeps thinking there is a liquid inside them!
The problem is that i would've bought a new cable but the cable is really good and has the Fast Charging ability and type C cables are really expensive in my country!.
How can i safely clean them ? can i clean them with water and then make sure they are dry before using ?
Cheers.

Try using denatured alcohol or rubbing alcohol that's above 90% ratio. Use a clean toothbrush or something similar to clean the area of corrosion. If that doesn't work it may be best to just purchase another cable. also, try using electronics duster (canned air) and clear out the charge port on the phone, you can use alcohol to clean that area as well. Hope this helps.

Isopropyl alcohol (aka: Rubbing alcohol). You may be able to buy some at a local pharmacy/chemist, but I usually have to get mine online. It's great for cleaning off cooked-on thermal paste - it shouldn't have an issue with some sticky finger stuff.

[Q] Charging problem

a few days back my phone started to charge slower and gradually it stopped charging at times. It only charged if i moved/bent it or keep it supported on some object.
It worked fine with Nokia Lumia800 cable so i bought a new cable today but have the same problems. What can be the problem here ?
Try sharpening a toothpick so it will fit in your phone's usb slot, then gently move it around in there and scrape out anything that could be in there. Over time dust and lint will accumulate in there which could cause a poor connection, which could in turn cause charging problems. Just be very careful so that you don't break anything. The nokia cable might be slightly different and that's why it would work and the other's wouldn't.
If you have an air compressor I would use that or some type of high out put air and blow inside the input for the charger

It's also possible that something has cracked. In that case, from now on be very careful when inserting/removing the cable. You may need to apply gentle pressure on the cabke in 1 direction during charging.

Bricked phone by cleaning micro-usb port?

Hey guys, this might sound slightly retarted.
I just tried to clean my micro usb port, because i couldn't put a cable in any more, with a screwdriver.
Yes, a screwdriver. Yes, probably i am an idiot.
Well, after i cleaned it, it refused to charge so i decided to do some more cleaning.
Yes, again with the screwdriver. Please don't judge.
At some point i tried to charge it again, but my screen was off, doesn't respond to any key combination (VOL down-Home-Power) and doesn't respond to putting in the charger either.
What is the worst case? Best case? Replace micro usb port? Or did i break something worse?
Any help appreciated.
Greets,
Thomas
mybe you did electric shock probably you killed motherboard you should use dry toothbrush not a metal stuff
Did you try charging it with a wireless charging pad?

Slight wiggle with cable and charger port ?

Hey guys. I've searched but couldn't find a solution.
I've got a very slight wiggle between my cable and charger socket on my honor 8.
Now I don't know of this is normal or not ? I can very slightly wiggle the cable from right to left, and up to down.
Is this normal ? Do other people get this as well ? When I say wiggle I mean literally a mil or two up and down, left and right.
Edit. Literally just tried wiggling the power connector inside the phone with a pair of tweezers. And it literally doesn't move. So I'm thinking it's the cable that is giving the couple of mil wiggle room??
Cheers !
Why are you even fidgeting with your device like that? Is it charging when plugged in? You're going to cause more damage.

Eh?? All I did was plug my cable in to my phone and it felt a little loose/wiggly. So I'm just asking a legit question ?? I'm not going out my way to cause damage.
I've jumped from an iPhone 7 to android. (which to be honest is a good thing right ?) I'm just asking is all?!
And yes it is charging. But when you plug a cable in like that, is it supposed to wiggle as much as it does ?
There is room for movement left to right this is normal. What is not normal is placing foreign objects inside of one's connect and trying to pull it.. Like the other member said if it's working as it should charging sync etc leave it well alone..

Okay. Thank you. As I said. I'm used to an iPhone 7. Where the charger cable fits like a glove.
If this is normal to have a bit of wiggle room then I'm okay with that.
There shouldn't be allot of movement when you have your device plugged into the charger. If you can get allot of movement when wiggling the cable then I suggest you send it back to Honor for inspection. As the USB port maybe loosely connected.
it shouldnt wiggle, get it fixed on the warranty
It isn't normal, when I charge my phone, the cable is fixed like a rock
Ok. Thank you for the swift replies guys.

Take it to a repair center ASAP
I have a bit of wiggle too. The port is solid and does not move, so it must be between the port and cable connector. I would not worry about it. There is a lot of different connection types that has a bit of wiggle sometimes. You will notice if it becomes a problem.
Type C Port Wiggle
I just bought a new factory sealed Galaxy Tab S3 from B&H Photo and the charging plug when plugged into the tablet does have about a millimeter of wiggle room in all directions, left, right, up, and down. The charge never drops. The slightest touch doesn't cause the plug to wiggle, I'm talking about actually using a little bit of force, not much...just a little.
My other devices use micro B and the charging ports in those devices fit tight so I had the same concern too but it turns out that the Type C charging port is designed with that slight wiggle room for some reason.
Just wanted to add my 2 cents to this concern on hopes that this information serves useful to someone.

Pixel stopped charging. HELP

My pixel 2 XL stopped charging at all of the sudden and only accepts slow charging and with a "Chinese" cable. The original cable doesn't work. No the cable ain't broken or the charger. My girlfriend has a pixel 3 and she uses my charger and cable and works on hers. We used also her charger and cable ( from pixel 3s ) and on her pixel 3 everything works comes to mine it doesn't even recognize to start charging.
Yes I'm using the original one.. I wrote it all but I don't know why XDA deleted some stuff.
Anyway yeah always used the original one and always been using. Never used another cable or charger actually.
It just happened put of nowhere, morning was fine when I went to bed couldn't charge it.
The only way I'm able to charge my phone now is with those lame cables of 1£ and it charges super slow. 5h for 80%. But that's literally the only way.
I've done factory reset, hard and soft resets, battery calibration, cleaned the port with toothpicks... Nothing seems to work.
It's a weird problem because the original cables don't work just the non original ones , which charge super super slow, but I'm also sure the cable and the chargers don't have any problem because I live with my girlfriend and she always uses them ( the one who came with my phone and the one who came with hers , she has a pixel 3 ) and no problems with her. Just with me.
Maybe my battery is faulty ?
Try some rubbing alcohol and a toothbrush. Mine kept connecting and disconnecting repeatedly while charging. Here, I had a nice peice of lint in the port. Just an idea. Hope you get it figured out ?
I had something like this happen a while ago and the problem for me also turned out to be lint in the charging port. It actually looked totally clean, but when I stuck something in there to clean it out I was surprised that there was lint.
Don't stick anything metal in the charging port though, because it could short out the connections. I just cut out a thin piece of plastic from a plastic cup and used it to scrap around. A piece with a nice point on it is good. Try to pick out any lint that's at the bottom of the charging port that may be preventing the cable from inserting all the way.
Good luck. Hope that helps.

Weird charging issue

Yesterday my Pixel 3a stopped accepting charge.
I use 2 chargers - the original google charger and a Xiaomi USB-A with a quality cable.
When I connect the Pixel charger + cable, Pixel 3a shows the wave charge motion, the status icon changes to "flash in battery" for a sec. Then it stops charging. The charger works fine with my Pixel 6.
Same situation with my Samsung PD charger.
The Xiaomi USB-A charger works but extremely slowly. The Ampere App used to show ~1,2A but now only between 50-100mA.
The charger works fine with Pixel 6.
I cleaned the seemingly clean Pixel 3 socket, nothing changed.
Any ideas, please?
Thanks
V
We already have an old phone. Perhaps your battery is worn out?
The battery is perfectly fine.
I've gone to the bottom of this. Literally.
After carefully cleaning the contacts of the Pixel 3a socket with contact cleaner, the phone still didn't started to charge properly.
However, I noticed that after wiggling the plug a bit, PD charging came back on.
So I cleaned even more intensely by rubbing contacts carefully with a toothpick which I had to shape with a knife in order to reach down into the socket.
There was still some tiny amount of black gunk down there I could not spot even with a watchmakers loupe.
Now we're back in biz.
I have a similar issue - bought a Pixel 3a recently from eBay, charging works but there is no connection to the computer via USB.
I tried it in Windows 10 and Ubuntu, used even a usb drive which I plugged into the adapter, I think something is wrong with my usb-c port.
Can you please be more detailed on how you cleaned the port? did you rub hard with the plastic toothpick?

No. I put it on paper tissue wrapped around carved toothpick.

I carefully rubbed the contacts with a wooden toothpic on which I put a drop of mild non corrosive contact cleaner. Initially I tried rubbing with tissue wrapped, later bare wood. The latter worked.
Have same charging issue, and proper clean help. Original pixel cable should make little click sound and dont't fall out even when you hang phone holding by cable
Usb c has 24 pins. The pin 6 and 7 should be at the top side, then charging is working again. That means, try to plug in the usb c in the other direction
