Hi there,
I'm in love with my new Samsung S8+ and in the past I always rooted my devices. But the problem I found is that you have to flash a rom and basically fall behind on updates eventually (sure due to laziness, but it seems to always happen with me) , have issues going ota, etc
So now I'm trying to avoid rooting but it gets harder and harder. Mainly with the following issues.
- Ad blocking, I use "block this" and works quite good, but I'm forced to have a VPN for obvious reasons (can't edit hosts). So is there a way around this?
- nfc, now this is an issue with my case weirdly. I have an otterbox strada and my bank card in the flap. So each time I have the flap behind my phone, the beep goes that it reads a tag (the card). So I have two options: disable the sound (needs root) or use a tool like "automate" or "tasker" to enable nfc when I open apps needing it (payment) which for some weird reason also needs root. So again is there a way around this?
Now I'm not 100% saying I'll never root, I just want to keep all updates from Samsung without some work around (so just from system settings update and done, re root if needed)
Anyone here with solutions?
I'm switching back to an LG G3 D850 after having spent a few months on a Nexus 6... and during which time I got pretty heavy into Pokemon GO
I want to continue playing it, which requires my phone to pass Safetynet, but also would like to explore the custom ROM scene here for the G3 – or at the very least, get something stock that I can root and modify (tethering, etc.)
Any recommendations? On the Nexus I stuck to stock and used Magisk to root, which worked out fine. Is that a valid option here? Is it the *only* option, or are there custom ROMs that would pass Safetynet?
Fulmics will work just be careful what ya install, I had it going for sometime then installed something that broke it and never could pass again.. I know it was something I did and installed but even after uninstalling everything never managed to get it back. I only wanted to pass safety net for pokemon go, and quit playing anyways so didn't dwell on it to long.
Hello ok so I had brought an Motorola X Pure from someone on eBay who says the phone was rooted with Magisk v16.0 now I’m very new at this kind of stuff I guess you can say I need a book on rooting for dummies lol anyway when I opened the Magisk app there’s no modules what so ever and there are only 2 buttons on the Magisk manager screen installed which I can’t press and then there’s an uninstall button which I thought was kind of odd i can’t access the google play store at all the phone didn’t com with a SIM card of course I thought about putting mines in but wasn’t quite sure it would work or not I don’t know that will fix the Magisk not working properly can somebody help me plz
After slowly reinstalling software on my new phone which had run into a boot loop (rooted OP7 with Magisk) — this time doing TWRP backups every few installs — I finally isolated the program that caused the boot loop!
It's Pixel Netcut WIFI Analyzer from the Play Store.
The software installs. On first run, it asks for root permissions, I say yes on the Magisk dialog, the software seems to run well.
Then on reboot… boot loop!
Thought I'd share that as a warning to others.
Two questions:
- does anyone know of a WIFI kicker that works well on rooted OP7 with Magisk?
- is there a list of "toxic software" for the OP7, or can you think of some Apps which are known to cause problems?

Just look at the ratings on Google play, it's just not worth to use this app.
Theres not such a list. But if apps are incompatible these days, they are really poor developed like this one
You're right about looking at ratings…
But have you noticed that sometimes, apps get really poor ratings just because users didn't understand that the App required root?
Anyhow, to manage WIFI users, installed two apps that seem to work so far:
- Arcai netcut (a WIFI kicker, apk from the dev website, but Pro features require subscription)
- Block WIFI by Puna Devops (more of a quick way to access your router, with default password database for routers)
hi everyone! I just wanted to explain my situation here so that maybe someone can help me understand what is happening.
I own the Exynos variant of this phone 12/256.
Being a huge fan of debloating my entire life, i got the phone and after some time, seeing that the battery life won't improve, I started digging.
At first, i have removed MANY apps that are useless, but have never touched system related apps, maybe bixby or smth. Nothing happened. Then the OneUi 5.0 came, beta, installed it, then the stable came, installed it, had a factory reset done to start fresh and i got to debloating again. And for about two weeks everything worked smoothly. Then i was at work one evening and i started seeing my phone acting weird, mobile data going on and off(kinda always on 4g+ at work) so i decided to restart the phone. Clicked restart, put it in my pocket and after 5 mins i felt it warm in my pocket. Checked it and saw it was restarting in a loop and after a few more restarts it said " rescue party/ etc/etc, your phone failed to restart multiple times bla bla". The only way to get it up and running was to delete all apps inside that menu then the phone would boot in safe mode so i could backup my data, then i had to factory reset it again. This happened 3 times, in a 1.5 week period. Last time i debloated, i only uninstalled youtube, youtube music, microsoft onedrive, etc etc. Haven't even touched anything related to a system app, because in that menu it would say some system files are missing or smth like that. This evening I ve got the update with the November security patch, downloaded it, installed it and now it's looping again.
Does anyone know what might be the cause? Because obviously i didnt get rid of any system app this time.
Contact Samsung support. Possibly to be replaced under warranty
Maybe just download a firmware that doesn't have much bloat then see if the issue keeps happening without you debloating. If it doesn't happen anymore and then you start debloating things and it happens, then you know your problem.
More than likely you've de-bloated something you shouldn't have.
Back up all your data (if you're still able to), then factory reset & flash clean stock ROM.
Thereafter, flash a de-bloated custom ROM or do a very careful de-bloat yourself (plenty of guides on XDA).
Everything I've debloated was done side by side to a parallel xda thread for samsung debloating, it's not like it was 100% out of my head. Disabling bixby, microsoft onedrive, samsung free, upday, ar core elements inside and out of the camera, live messages from the s pen doesnt look to me like it should make the phone go bootlooping.
I've flashed the first stable firmware last night after the incident, updated it to the latest november update and I'm keeping an eye on it. If it randomly goes bootlooping and to rescue party, I'm taking it to samsung in my city.

dont root your phone, you might lose your warranty.
i see you flashed the firmware so keep an eye one the phone, debloating shouldnt have to do anything with this issue, a lot of us debload and have not faced this kind of issues.
i did debloat mine, i bought my phone with A12 and it took me 2 days to set it up including the date transfer and debloat, then i received A13 which i installed and kept using it without a reset which i should have done but i was very busy.
I haven't rooted this one, not yet because it's new and I don't need anything root acces can give me at this popoint. Although I have rooted many phones before, including samsung, I've never encountered this before, even though I've seen it was introduced by google in A11 or smth. I dont know.
What variant is your phone? Maybe you can give me a file with what you've debloated so far to compare.
