[Q]Unable to recharge after a full discharge?

So I've fully discharged my phone following the instruction given by a battery calibration app. But now the phone won't even turn on and I can't even recharge it. I tried to pull the battery out and put it back in, and then plug in the cable and turn on the phone, but hell no, the phone gave only 8 short blinks and 3 long blinks from the amber colored led and went dead.
I don't know if this is related to MDJ's unity V5 beta kernel, but my phone is unwilling to recharge while it's off. Can somebody help please?

Btw, I can't even boot into bootloader by holding vol down after pressing power button.

Charge your battery min.3.6v on external charger or another phone and then put it back.

I have a spare, semi-busted USB cable.
I stripped off the insulation and exposed the green, white, black and red cables.
You only need the black (-ve) and red (+ve) cables for this effort.
Use any means you have to get expose the actual wiring and be sure to match them properly to the corresponding contact points on the battery.
The idea is to directly place the positive wire on the positive terminal of the battery and vice versa for the negative. The plug the battery into the phone.
What I did was loop the wires around the leads that would be in direct contact with +ve and -ve inside the phone itself, plugged the battery back in the phone and then plugged the USB cable into my laptop.
The phone booted right up.
Seems to be working thus far even though its still "off". I have a solid amber light and I'll leave the phone for a little bit before I try to boot it back up.

and if we're not feeling so badass?
I don't wanna go messing with my USB cable, but I'm in the same boat as the OP. When I plug in to wall or computer, there are 9 dim orange short flashes on the notification light, about 1 per sec, and then two longer flashes, and brighter too, then nothing. Any other suggestions that are maybe a little less bad-ass and a lot more usable?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Hardware Issue - Solid Red Light with Battery, Power Cycle without

Hello All,
I hope this is the best forum, but please give me advice if it is better somewhere else.
I recently dropped my Nexus 5, cracking the screen. I am fairly DIY, so I ordered a new screen on eBay. Although I had never opened the Nexus 5, I followed some online guides, and I thought the process went fairly smoothly. However, after it was all assembled, the phone was completely dead. I switched back to the old screen, still dead. I picked it up to try again. I can put the phone in to the following states (with the back cover off):
Battery Connected, USB Power - Solid red light. Unresponsive. Power + Vol- just cycles red light
Battery Disconnected, USB Power - The screen powers on, shows the "starting to charge" logo. The device power cycles approximately every 5 seconds. Holding the power button will show the Google logo (aka, startup), but continues to power cycle every 5 seconds.
Battery Disconnected, USB Power, then battery connected - With the battery disconnected, it will show the charging screen. I can then connect the battery and completely start it. The device appears to be fully functional (sans the rear speaker, but I am not concerned about that at the moment). The battery always indicates 0% (Unknown). However, if I unplug the USB power, the device will stay powered.
Any ideas on what the issue could be? Bad battery? Bad main board? Or, ideally, a loose connector.
Any insight would be appreciated.

Update: I am unable to replicate the red notification light. Now the phone is unresponsive if the battery is connected.

Could be anything really. Only a professional would know what's the issue after examining the device.

Shocked the board

I was removing the inner plastic of the phone and accidentally shocked the board in this area. After that I can't charge my phone or see any display although I see Google pop up a few times with the digitizer flickering. Now without that battery I can hit power and it would vibrate. But other than that I can't see anything.
Here some pictures. Is my phone dead? I tried changing the USB charging ribbon L piece but that didn't work out. Wasnt OEM and poor fitment.

Without the battery I can power and it would vibrate without nothing on display. With battery it does nothing. Although I saw a red light briefly. I can NFC charge it. But won't power still. Not sure if I should spend any more money on this used banged up $80 n5.

Which part of the phone is or board is it linked to. Also I did anther experiment without the battery back light comes on see grey if I tap the online I see pixelated rainbow or TV black n white lines. Weird..

The area that you are pointing to has the battery connector right beside it. It could be the battery or the board.

Question even without the battery wouldn't the phone turn on and work as normal without the battery?

I've never been able to get an N5 to boot without the battery being connected, even an almost dead battery would allow the phone to boot as long as it is connected to a charger.

Well oh well thought I had a chance to fix it when the backlight and the phone would power on with 99% no display. Battery seems to charge through NFC but what's odd is that with the battery I can hold power nothing happens. Without battery it vibrates and I think it boots up but I'm not completely sure. I'm guessing because I would go into recovery and I can feel it vibrate once going into bootloader second time I hit the power button then it vibrates again. I think first option is to start

Don't worry, it can be fixed. I just fixed mine yesterday after spending 2 days contemplating buying a Nexus 5x due to this one being broken. For a few days my mic wasn't working then I realised that pressing hard just below the camera hump got it working again as you can see in the link below I replied with my solution, I suspect the problem isn't the long connector on the left but maybe a loose component behind it on the other side of the mainboard. I jammed some folded paper behind the board and now it works fine. Jamming it in front of the board worked but from time to time the screen went off and I had to reset the phone for it to work again.

Unresponsive / Dead Phone - Any ideas?

So i recently picked up an XT1254 for a great deal. The phone is pristine, not a scratch on it. It looks brand new. It is totally unresponsive. If I plug it in the light on my charger turns from blue to green, telling me it's fast charging. But nothing from the phones LED. Also if I place it on a charging pad, color changes as well. I tried both options over night and still nothing. The phone does get warm (usual amount), leading me to believe it is charging the battery.
Holding the power button - nothing (no vibration, no moto logo, no LED responce)
Holding power + vol down - nothing ( = )
USB to PC - phone is not detected at all (I have ADB and current moto drivers installed)
I opened it up, and everything seems to be in order. No loose connections, no water damage. I checked the battery, and it reads roughly 2.5 volts across each pair of pins. Should it be reading 3.7-4 volts across each pair?
I unfortunately don't have another phone to check the MB, battery and LCD against.
I don't have a SIM installed in it, but I doubt it makes a difference?
Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks-

Quite low for li-ion/-poly, I don't think it ever sees 3v or under in normal circumstances. It might be well into "damaging the battery" territory at this point, and it should certainly be higher after charging it for a while...might be a goner.
Have you tried removing the battery completely and running it off the USB cord? I would expect it to, if nothing else, bring the screen up complaining of a bad/missing battery. That said, I've never tried unplugging mine to see what happens, so no real idea.
I would suggest trying to fabricate a factory cable (which would provide power directly, ignoring battery status), but I don't know if post-OMAP Motorolas are physically configured to use them. If they aren't, it'll do nothing at best and burn up traces at worst : \
Also, holding Vol - while plugging it in should bring the boot menu up, regardless of available battery charge (therefore serving as a quick test to see if the power button is the problem). But that might go out the window as well if the battery is deader than a doornail.

It doesn't. When I fresh-install a ROM, I remove my SIM card to make sure none of my data gets used before I can turn various unwanted syncs/auto-updates off. The phone doesn't care at all, and nowadays Google isn't too whiny about a missing SIM either.

Hello guys.
Sorry for reviving an old thread, but I have similar problem with my Droid Turbo. During the replacement of the battery and speaker, I noticed oxidized resistors near the proximity sensor (which wasn't working since the purchase of the phone second-hand). I have cleaned the oxidized residue with ethanol and assembled the phone. After pressing the power button, the touch buttons light up and phone was vibrating every 20s but the screen was blank. So I disassembled it again to check all the connections but everything was fine. Since then, the phone won't even vibrate, just heats up a lot after holding power button. I have tried both batteries, speakers and also powering the phone without battery (only power cord connected). Both batteries are shoving around 3.8V.
Do you please have any suggestions how to fix the phone? Or should I assume that the motherboard died?

Never thought I would run into this moment that I need to ask for help on the forum, but I guess this is my last hope.
Here's the story:
I was on Oreo firmware and thinking of going back to Nougat because there are some apps only work on Nougat at this moment and I overall prefer Nougat design.
My phone was on S-off so I thought it would be perfectly fine for me to just flash Nougat firmware then flash the Nougat rom I desired like the good old days.
So then I launched Sunshine app, passed the compatibility test and the phone rebooted to download mode with S-off shown, everything was working fine so far.
And here was the problem happened, I typed in the command"fastboot flash zip firmwareXXX.zip".
Terminal showed error needs to reboot and flash again immediately as normal, the phone rebooted but never come back to download mode.
Now it only stays on black screen, if I tilt the phone a bit I can see the backlight glowing.
I've tried hard reset by holding power and volume down, it will reboot but still stays on black screen, neither system nor bootloader is accessible.
Even plugging to the computer detects nothing, not even QHSUSB_BULK mode.
However, the phone is able to charge though, I hook up the usb cable with a digital meter and it shows 5 volts and 0.5 amp.
I'm running out of solutions, I've searched through the entire forum and see no one has the similar experience.
This is the first time I hard brick a phone, been a loyal HTC user since good old Desire HD days.
If anyone has experience or solution for this, a kindly help is appreciated, thanks!

Have you held the power and volume down button both together for exactly 1 minute,
I have a u11 that took for ever to reboot with corrupt os youll notice the capacative buttons start flash if its doing something or going to reset after about 30 seconds if not and nothin happens
Take the backing off and unplug the battery,
To do this heat the backing up with a hair dryer and get some really fine guitar picks, work your way arround slowly, in my case the U11 was not glass backed only plastic and was original backing ive heard they are glass now though so be careful,
Now with the backing off and exposed, take all of the 5 or 6 screws out from the plastic ariel cover with NFC chip attached (chip is gold bend it up off battery it is not glued down)
Then from the left of the device at the bottom of the plastic cover with ncf chip on it you should see a slight gap where the vibration motor is located and sits
Get a rounded pair of tweezer and insert just the tip into the opening and very carefully pry it up, it make take a while as some of the adhesive from the backing will be holding it down,
After that is off you have now exposed the devices PCB,
From the battery youll see the connector making its way to the PCB port disconnect it and reconnect it now try to boot directly to download mode with
Power
Volume down
Both at the same time, if this did not work the disconnect the battery again and wait 24hrs for the static electricity to disperse and try again, had this work on a completely frozen unresponisve evo 10 and u11 + and also my U11
Still no luck id say the emmc on the board has gone haywire either that or possibly one of the thermal transistors has blown in which youll see either black and burnt or white and powdery,
Im a phone tech you shouldnt have any problems doing all this just take your time,

I've tried holding volume down and power buttons both for around 5 mins, no capacitive button blinking.
However I can tell the phone reboots several times during the procedure by seeing the backlight goes black and light up.
And about the reconnect battery route, I guess I'll just do it anyway, since the repairing price might be the same as buying a new one.

Sounds like the logic board is trying to initialize but there isnt sufficient power to boot it,
its kinda like when you take the battery out of a phone then plug it on to charge without a battery and there is nothing but a lit up black screen and nothing else happens as theres not enough power to boot, this sounds the same to me as there are no red or green light after the orange when plugged in,
Get a hair dryer and heat the back of the phone up a few times and then plug it into charge to see if you cant boost the cells back to life, do this a few times,
If no change id most certainly suggest removing your back cover and unplugging and replugging the battery, once unplugged leave it for a few minutes, then plug back this will refresh the chips (especially emmc as this contains your entire system and bootloader, including download mode, RUU mode)
as soon as battery is reconnected plug it in on charge and try to boot it to download mode straight away also look for any change in the batteries light colour and any blinking,
the orange light when first plugged in is normal but should blink once or twice only then change to a solid red for discharged and charging or solid green green when near on 100% charged
If the above does not work disconnect the battery for 24 hours and try again, this will fully drain any static electricity in the device that may be lingering,
If still nothing after the 24 hours buy an OEM battery from ebay and install yourself, once you have the back cover off youll see the battery takes up 3/4 of the phones actual internal size,
Same as the back cover get your hair dryer place a shamwow or thick cloth over the PCB board then heat the battery up (NOT TO MUCH THOUGH only so its hot to the touch), then with the really thin guitar picks again (they should be bendable easily and flexible) work your way around the battery to cut through the adhesive securing it down,
CAUTION be very very careful the adhesive is strong keep the battery heated at all times to avoid pericing the battery and or damaaging the lcd as this is what its secured to, just take your time and work slowly do not force it out, once all the adhesive is cut it will remove easily by using the guitar pick insert between battery and housing and gently turn the pick from left to right and will pop out, (you will see the battery move when using pick from left to right if not you havent cut the adhesive properly work around the battery once again until you get movement from it)
Sorry for the long reply haha but dont send it to htc they are absolute rubbish hope this helps ive tried to be as detailed as i can its actually alot harder trying to explain it than it actually is to do it

hello buddy thanks for this help, i have the same problem as the OP, i followed your instruction now i have an orange LED light up but no change, i dont know if i can access download mode or not cause my screen still black. tried htc_fastboot flash recovery but it done with FAILED not allowed on PRODUCTION device.
what should i do now, please help me, and sorry for my bad english. Thanks a lots
