So I've fully discharged my phone following the instruction given by a battery calibration app. But now the phone won't even turn on and I can't even recharge it. I tried to pull the battery out and put it back in, and then plug in the cable and turn on the phone, but hell no, the phone gave only 8 short blinks and 3 long blinks from the amber colored led and went dead.
I don't know if this is related to MDJ's unity V5 beta kernel, but my phone is unwilling to recharge while it's off. Can somebody help please?
Btw, I can't even boot into bootloader by holding vol down after pressing power button.
Charge your battery min.3.6v on external charger or another phone and then put it back.

I have a spare, semi-busted USB cable.
I stripped off the insulation and exposed the green, white, black and red cables.
You only need the black (-ve) and red (+ve) cables for this effort.
Use any means you have to get expose the actual wiring and be sure to match them properly to the corresponding contact points on the battery.
The idea is to directly place the positive wire on the positive terminal of the battery and vice versa for the negative. The plug the battery into the phone.
What I did was loop the wires around the leads that would be in direct contact with +ve and -ve inside the phone itself, plugged the battery back in the phone and then plugged the USB cable into my laptop.
The phone booted right up.
Seems to be working thus far even though its still "off". I have a solid amber light and I'll leave the phone for a little bit before I try to boot it back up.

I don't wanna go messing with my USB cable, but I'm in the same boat as the OP. When I plug in to wall or computer, there are 9 dim orange short flashes on the notification light, about 1 per sec, and then two longer flashes, and brighter too, then nothing. Any other suggestions that are maybe a little less bad-ass and a lot more usable?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

After removing and re-inserting the battery, does anything happen if you hold down the VOLUME-DOWN and POWER buttons for 5-10 seconds? Does the orange charging light turn on when connected to the charger? HBOOT 1.27 should mean android version 4.0. Is this correct? Did you try to change the device software with an RUU or anything similar? Anything else about what you were doing with the phone when this occurred would be helpful.

nope the orange light doesnt turn on i tried removing the battery an still doesnt turn on i also tried holding the volume down an power button but it still dont charge... it started to do this when the battery had died so i tried to turn it on a couple of times an nothing happen so i pressed VOLUME-DOWN and POWER buttons for 5-10 secondsthen i put into factory reste an it stayed on for like 1 minute an it turned offf so i turn it on again but thhis time i pressed VOLUME-DOWN and POWER buttons for 5-10 seconds an put it into recovery an nothing happen so i took out the battery an turn it on it stayed on for like a minute an it turned off an it would charge or turned on...an while i was charging the led light flashed orange green in a pattern the whole time until eventually not turning on
It sounds like the battery is either extremely low (to the point where it wont charge properly) or (possibly, but unlikely) completely dead. I had a similar problem with an old HTC G2. It was probably caused by either a bad charger or the phone running down the battery too much. If you have another charger, try using that one instead.
Follow these steps carefully:
-remove and re-insert the battery, and DO NOT press any buttons
-plug the phone into a charger, ideally a new/different one
-if no lights turn on, make sure the charger works and has power, and then let charge overnight, (or at least 3-4 hours), re-inserting the battery occasionally if the status light still does not turn on
-if it flashes green-orange, remove and re-insert the battery and charger until it stops flashing (still careful not to press any buttons)
-if the charging light starts normally, let it charge until it shows a solid green light
Hopefully somewhere in this process it will begin charging normally, but be sure to allow it to charge for at least several hours before trying to turn it on. If possible, try using another battery and see if this fixes the issue. If it still doesn't work. it is possible that the battery is so low that your phone can't charge it. The only way to fix this is to either buy a new battery (very cheap on amazon- only a few dollars) or take it to a Sprint store and ask them to fix it, as they have a special device which can charge the battery. They are supposedly willing to help non-sprint customers, but it's probably best just to show them the battery and not the phone.
The only other cause that I know of for the green-orange light flash is overheating, which is extremely unlikely.

No, the back cover couldn't cause it. Depending on which part is missing you might not be able to use WiFi or cell reception might be really bad. The top half contains the WiFi, bluetooth, and gps antennas, and the bottom half has the antennas for the cell radio. It will likely still partially work, but the signal will be extremely weak.

okay thank you well i think its the battery ima get a new one cause i tried it an it hasnt worked
My Sensation has passed by this afternoon.
It does not even turn on, does not react to anything.
The last days, battery started to fall down very quickly (from 100% to 0% in no more than 1 hour of use, when the previous day, it lasted well +24 hours as usual). Then it did not detect any sdcard in it. Then, common freezes with vertical and horizontal lines came across the screen, especially after playing some demanding game. Back of the phone was literally on fire. I had to wait several hours to reboot again, of it would freeze on the boot screen otherwise. From that final state it only lasted one more day.
adb does not detect it connected to any USB plug (no device found). I have tried with/without SIM, battery, swapping batteries, only connected to USB plug, with/without sdcard... with the same result.
Screen only lights on whenever connected to an USB plug, but it does not respond to anything. It does not sound like when Windows detect a new hardware found. adb tools does not work either.
My main question is. Phone was with bootloader unlocked, S-off, debranded and with CWM Recovery 6 and CM10.1 installed on it. I am going to send it to the HTC RMA service as it is within the two-year warranty period. Could they detect anythingof the above-mentioned even if the phone cannot boot?

did you try to boot into bootloader?
probably they can see that the bootloader is unlocked(i am not sure)
did you try the unbricking project?
if you plug the device to the charger does the led show red?

Hello, thanks for the input.
The led does not show in any color. The screen just lights up a bit when connected to an USB plug. But it does not react to anything, power button, power+vol down button (for entering the bootloader)...etc. Now it is like a paperweight.
I will have a look at the unbricking project. But i highly doubt I could do anything if It cannot enter the bootloader and/or respond to adb commands...

I had the same issue you did. Are u sure your battery isnt too low to start charghing? You can try to charge it a bit with a usb cable, you need to cut it and just take the red (positive) and black (negative) wires and touch the + and - of your battery for like 1 min. Then it will start charging. Give it a shot, worked for me and many others.

Hello and many thanks for the help.
I try to boot it up without the battery, just connected to the power outlet via the official HTC USB cable and charger. That way, it is supposed to boot up in normal conditions, isn't it? I wanted to discard the battery part, but anyway, I have another (non-official battery) and it does not boot either.
Welcome, i've readed alot of topics on the internet about problems similar to this, but nothing fixed my problem. I've tried connecting to wall/pc charger, power button + volume down/up combinations, really all the thing.
Couple days ago after my phone fully discharged ( I rarely had situation like this, I usually charge when my phone have 10-15%, but this day I couldn't. ) I came back home and tried to charge my phone, red light was ON but it still didn't charge after alot of hours. I then tried to fix it, turning on phone etc. but screen was always black and phone didn't want to charge. At first when I tried to boot the Z3 red light was blinking, but after some time it stopped. I ordered new battery, replaced it carefully (though it's battery problem) - then when I connected the new battery for the first time I though I have fixed the problem, battery charging icon showed up for a moment on screen, I was very happy. Then I disconnected charger so I could assemble my phone. Now when I try to charge my phone problem is this same.. like with old battery - Just red light, not turning ON, not blinking. Powering up Key combinations with volume don't fix it. My PC Companion don't see phone. I disassembled my phone again, disconnected battery and connected it - It didn't showed any battery icon again, so why it did when I connected it for the first time? and why when my phone died for the first time red light was blinking, now it doesn't? I want to add that I never dropped my phone or used it in water - never, thats why I was almost sure maybe just battery died after it discharged.
Btw. Important thing is that USB port isn't broken, red light is always ON when I plug USB charger, but when I try to use my magnetic charger, phone never respond - no light. I also tried different cables, chargers etc. Could it really be something with the mainboard?
What could've happen? Why my phone went dead after fully discharged it ? Why battery replacement doesn't fix the problem? I don't get it, is mainboard damaged or something? Can I still try something? Maybe anyone can help me.

So i recently picked up an XT1254 for a great deal. The phone is pristine, not a scratch on it. It looks brand new. It is totally unresponsive. If I plug it in the light on my charger turns from blue to green, telling me it's fast charging. But nothing from the phones LED. Also if I place it on a charging pad, color changes as well. I tried both options over night and still nothing. The phone does get warm (usual amount), leading me to believe it is charging the battery.
Holding the power button - nothing (no vibration, no moto logo, no LED responce)
Holding power + vol down - nothing ( = )
USB to PC - phone is not detected at all (I have ADB and current moto drivers installed)
I opened it up, and everything seems to be in order. No loose connections, no water damage. I checked the battery, and it reads roughly 2.5 volts across each pair of pins. Should it be reading 3.7-4 volts across each pair?
I unfortunately don't have another phone to check the MB, battery and LCD against.
I don't have a SIM installed in it, but I doubt it makes a difference?

Quite low for li-ion/-poly, I don't think it ever sees 3v or under in normal circumstances. It might be well into "damaging the battery" territory at this point, and it should certainly be higher after charging it for a while...might be a goner.
Have you tried removing the battery completely and running it off the USB cord? I would expect it to, if nothing else, bring the screen up complaining of a bad/missing battery. That said, I've never tried unplugging mine to see what happens, so no real idea.
I would suggest trying to fabricate a factory cable (which would provide power directly, ignoring battery status), but I don't know if post-OMAP Motorolas are physically configured to use them. If they aren't, it'll do nothing at best and burn up traces at worst : \
Also, holding Vol - while plugging it in should bring the boot menu up, regardless of available battery charge (therefore serving as a quick test to see if the power button is the problem). But that might go out the window as well if the battery is deader than a doornail.

It doesn't. When I fresh-install a ROM, I remove my SIM card to make sure none of my data gets used before I can turn various unwanted syncs/auto-updates off. The phone doesn't care at all, and nowadays Google isn't too whiny about a missing SIM either.

Sorry for reviving an old thread, but I have similar problem with my Droid Turbo. During the replacement of the battery and speaker, I noticed oxidized resistors near the proximity sensor (which wasn't working since the purchase of the phone second-hand). I have cleaned the oxidized residue with ethanol and assembled the phone. After pressing the power button, the touch buttons light up and phone was vibrating every 20s but the screen was blank. So I disassembled it again to check all the connections but everything was fine. Since then, the phone won't even vibrate, just heats up a lot after holding power button. I have tried both batteries, speakers and also powering the phone without battery (only power cord connected). Both batteries are shoving around 3.8V.
Do you please have any suggestions how to fix the phone? Or should I assume that the motherboard died?

Never thought I would run into this moment that I need to ask for help on the forum, but I guess this is my last hope.
Here's the story:
I was on Oreo firmware and thinking of going back to Nougat because there are some apps only work on Nougat at this moment and I overall prefer Nougat design.
My phone was on S-off so I thought it would be perfectly fine for me to just flash Nougat firmware then flash the Nougat rom I desired like the good old days.
So then I launched Sunshine app, passed the compatibility test and the phone rebooted to download mode with S-off shown, everything was working fine so far.
And here was the problem happened, I typed in the command"fastboot flash zip firmwareXXX.zip".
Terminal showed error needs to reboot and flash again immediately as normal, the phone rebooted but never come back to download mode.
Now it only stays on black screen, if I tilt the phone a bit I can see the backlight glowing.
I've tried hard reset by holding power and volume down, it will reboot but still stays on black screen, neither system nor bootloader is accessible.
Even plugging to the computer detects nothing, not even QHSUSB_BULK mode.
However, the phone is able to charge though, I hook up the usb cable with a digital meter and it shows 5 volts and 0.5 amp.
I'm running out of solutions, I've searched through the entire forum and see no one has the similar experience.
This is the first time I hard brick a phone, been a loyal HTC user since good old Desire HD days.
If anyone has experience or solution for this, a kindly help is appreciated, thanks!

Have you held the power and volume down button both together for exactly 1 minute,
I have a u11 that took for ever to reboot with corrupt os youll notice the capacative buttons start flash if its doing something or going to reset after about 30 seconds if not and nothin happens
Take the backing off and unplug the battery,
To do this heat the backing up with a hair dryer and get some really fine guitar picks, work your way arround slowly, in my case the U11 was not glass backed only plastic and was original backing ive heard they are glass now though so be careful,
Now with the backing off and exposed, take all of the 5 or 6 screws out from the plastic ariel cover with NFC chip attached (chip is gold bend it up off battery it is not glued down)
Then from the left of the device at the bottom of the plastic cover with ncf chip on it you should see a slight gap where the vibration motor is located and sits
Get a rounded pair of tweezer and insert just the tip into the opening and very carefully pry it up, it make take a while as some of the adhesive from the backing will be holding it down,
After that is off you have now exposed the devices PCB,
From the battery youll see the connector making its way to the PCB port disconnect it and reconnect it now try to boot directly to download mode with
Power
Volume down
Both at the same time, if this did not work the disconnect the battery again and wait 24hrs for the static electricity to disperse and try again, had this work on a completely frozen unresponisve evo 10 and u11 + and also my U11
Still no luck id say the emmc on the board has gone haywire either that or possibly one of the thermal transistors has blown in which youll see either black and burnt or white and powdery,
Im a phone tech you shouldnt have any problems doing all this just take your time,

I've tried holding volume down and power buttons both for around 5 mins, no capacitive button blinking.
However I can tell the phone reboots several times during the procedure by seeing the backlight goes black and light up.
And about the reconnect battery route, I guess I'll just do it anyway, since the repairing price might be the same as buying a new one.

Sounds like the logic board is trying to initialize but there isnt sufficient power to boot it,
its kinda like when you take the battery out of a phone then plug it on to charge without a battery and there is nothing but a lit up black screen and nothing else happens as theres not enough power to boot, this sounds the same to me as there are no red or green light after the orange when plugged in,
Get a hair dryer and heat the back of the phone up a few times and then plug it into charge to see if you cant boost the cells back to life, do this a few times,
If no change id most certainly suggest removing your back cover and unplugging and replugging the battery, once unplugged leave it for a few minutes, then plug back this will refresh the chips (especially emmc as this contains your entire system and bootloader, including download mode, RUU mode)
as soon as battery is reconnected plug it in on charge and try to boot it to download mode straight away also look for any change in the batteries light colour and any blinking,
the orange light when first plugged in is normal but should blink once or twice only then change to a solid red for discharged and charging or solid green green when near on 100% charged
If the above does not work disconnect the battery for 24 hours and try again, this will fully drain any static electricity in the device that may be lingering,
If still nothing after the 24 hours buy an OEM battery from ebay and install yourself, once you have the back cover off youll see the battery takes up 3/4 of the phones actual internal size,
Same as the back cover get your hair dryer place a shamwow or thick cloth over the PCB board then heat the battery up (NOT TO MUCH THOUGH only so its hot to the touch), then with the really thin guitar picks again (they should be bendable easily and flexible) work your way around the battery to cut through the adhesive securing it down,
CAUTION be very very careful the adhesive is strong keep the battery heated at all times to avoid pericing the battery and or damaaging the lcd as this is what its secured to, just take your time and work slowly do not force it out, once all the adhesive is cut it will remove easily by using the guitar pick insert between battery and housing and gently turn the pick from left to right and will pop out, (you will see the battery move when using pick from left to right if not you havent cut the adhesive properly work around the battery once again until you get movement from it)
Sorry for the long reply haha but dont send it to htc they are absolute rubbish hope this helps ive tried to be as detailed as i can its actually alot harder trying to explain it than it actually is to do it

hello buddy thanks for this help, i have the same problem as the OP, i followed your instruction now i have an orange LED light up but no change, i dont know if i can access download mode or not cause my screen still black. tried htc_fastboot flash recovery but it done with FAILED not allowed on PRODUCTION device.
