I had this happen to me
If you actually have your phone non-responsive, be careful when you do a hard reboot of your phone and DO NOT hold on the home button
What happens is when it reboots, it boots to the first part of the phone where you see
1: reboot phone
2: factory reset
3: safe mode
4: power down
IF you hold on the home button for quite some time, half of the time it MIGHT reboot to the screen mentioned above, or in download mode, and if you keep on holding the volume down and home and power button, you may find yourself resetting the phone.
I haven't even gotten a warning screen saying I will reset my phone. it just......resetted
And yeah. This is what happens 50/50 when you reboot your non-respondable phone.

hi guys,
i just god nexus from a second hand store. i want to hard reset it but it does't.
it is stuck in the screen where the little green guy with the triangle with an exclamation mark next to it. please help.
is there a way to load the factory rom manually?
(i know how to jailbrake and downgrade an iphone so this should not be so hard)
Hold volume down and press on once you see menu with recovery
press volume again and you will see option for clear storage - thats what you want
that is what i have done already. but why is the mobile preventing me from hard reset ?
I have been hanging around the XDA forums (as well as every other forum I could think of) and have been unable to solve my re-set problem.
I got my Nexus S about a week ago and decided to unlock it. That went well, no problem. Then I decided to root using Superboot - that did not go well. Now my phone is unresponsive, just sits on the Google name with an unlocked padlock on a black screen. I can get into fastboot mode by using the volume up and power button if I do this right after replacing the battery. I cannot seem to go anywhere else. Once I got into a menu that would let me install from sd card, but none of the options would install. I followed the following directions to see if I could do a hard reset:
Hard reset Nexus S using hardware buttons
This option is recommended if you are unable to access the options via the Android OS.
1. Turn the phone off by pressing and holding the Power button for about 2 seconds, the tapping Power off. Alternately, you can pull the and replace the battery.
2. Press and hold the Volume Down button while pressing and releasing the Power button.
3. Continue to hold the Volume Down button until you see a menu appear.
4. Now tap the Volume Down button to scroll down to the Clear Storage option.
5. Press the Power button to select Clear storage.
6. Press Volume Up to select Yes.
After a few minutes the hard reset process will be completed and you can reboot your phone to factory default settings.
I never get to the clear storage option, although I have tried data/factory reset and wipe cache. I can get to the android with the triangle and exclamation point but that will just sit for ever, and removing the battery at that point and then rebooting does not work. It just takes me back to the Google and the unlocked padlock. FWIW - my phone updated right before I unlocked it. I don't think it is bricked, but I sure can't get passed the Google name or the Triangle/android.
Thanks for any help.

I've the same problem now - did you ever resolve yours?
Here is how
Power off by removing battery
Hold vol up not down and power,
release power and you get Fastboot mode
vol down to recovery and click power
You get the screen with Android + triangle
Click up and Power again for few seconds
you will get the 'Android Sys recovery'
However if you have my problem 'error in loading the built in SDcard memory this wont help.
The only way i managed to get it to work some times although not now, is to reboot the mobile while it is connected to a PC, and load the PC at the same time.
However this time i am stuck at Google screen

Hey guys
This might seem basic. Of course I can use adb or the buttons to get to the bootloader/fastboot. But occasionally when I'm messing with my n5, I do something that forces a reboot, or maybe I accidently hit the wrong key, or don't do the buttons right - now it's booting up, but, as often happens at these times, now you have to wait for the applications to 'optimize'.
That takes a good long while with 200+ apps! I know I can hold the power and force another reboot, but I can never seem to get it to go to the bootloader while forcing a boot by holding the power/vol+/vol- .
Am I missing something, or is there no way to "abort" a boot, and somehow get to fastboot mode ?
On my old phones, I would pull the battery, jumping straight to "power off" mode, then hold the vol and power like usual and be off to the races.

To force a reboot into fastboot mode, hold Power + Vol down. You can do it whenever you want.
That's ^ the procedure... For me the easiest is to hooks power to force reboot once it vibrates and starts to go black let go of power and hold volume down to get into bootloader.
I have a Galaxy S6 with a faulty power button.
I took it to a Samsung Repair Centre.
After "diagnosing" the problem (which I had to pay for), I was told that the faulty power button was due to "liquid damage" (it has never been in water everything else works fine).
They said it would cost £180 to repair and would require they replace the whole motherboard.
I refused as I cannot afford that repair and would rather consult a third party shop or purchase a brand new phone.
Unfortunately, the state I received the phone back in unusable.
Before the phone was sent in, it was at least in a state where I could at least use it (providing I kept it charged and did not power it off).
Now its just stuck in a recovery mode => restart => no command (boot loop), and I cannot select an option from the recovery mode screen because the power button does not work.
I planned to flash the stock firmware to try in order to get it out of this loop, and I can get it to boot to download mode as the volume buttons and home button work fine.
However, now when I'm at the cyan warning screen it prompts me for volume up to continue.
I press volume up and nothing happens. I know that these buttons work for a fact as in recovery mode I can navigate up and down.
Any ideas whats going on? or what I should try next?
Videos of the issue
(Tinfoil theory: Did they purposefully lock down download mode after inspecting it?)
If you have time, continuously keep pressing volume up and power until it gets you into Odin. Best of luck.
We're on slightly different devices, but mine has the same defect. The power button failed overnight, it worked to start the device but afterwards, the power button became stuck in the pressed state and I couldn't lock the device (not mechanically, it is still clicky). The volume down button still worked (I don't have to hold power to force a restart because it's stuck in the pressed state), I wanted to take a look at the knox status in the download mode, it didn't respond to volume up, this means that it's dependent on not having power pressed. I somehow got the restart confirmation to show with the power button, twice, so it's not completely defective. The volume down button cycled through being stuck and non-clicky, working normally, and being stuck while being mostly clicky, like the power button, though it doesn't seem to be stuck in the pressed state. It's likely because I kept pushing Volume Down for hours in a terminal emulator. Today, it takes 5 mins of torturing Volume Down to restart the device. Eventually, it might fail completely. This device seems to be able to ignore volume up / down if those buttons are stuck and work almost completely normally.
I have a really big issue. After attempting to get into recovery mode with my S7 which has a broken power button due to water damage it tried to install a system update despite I didn't perform any update and now it shows no command and kicks me into recovery mode but I cannot choose any option because my power button is broken.
I've also tried holding Volume Down + Home Button but when entering download mode I cannot proceed when pressing Volume Up. Nothing happens and I can only get out of there when holding Volume Down for 5-10 seconds and the the first mentioned thing happens again. Is there anything I can do without replacing the damaged part?
Take your back panel off and try fixing your power key manually. However taking your back panel off will remove your IP68 water resistance.

The back panel has already been replaced once (but improperly) by the previous owner and it already has a tiny gap at the top of the phone, so no water resistance anymore. I'll try it out when I can. Thx for your answer

I've the same problem, but it happened after my S7 turned off because the battery reached 0% (I was sleeping).
My power button is also broken, and volume up doesnt work in download mode, but it was working fine in Android.
Hi Everyone,
Phone decided to randomly turn off (at around 80% charge) and now won't boot. Have tried all the basic TS guides.
have tried:
-Charging - no on-screen displays
-Holding power button for various intervals
-Button combinations (Power + vol up....etc)
Connecting to PC gives me an indication that it has detected a USB connection, then consistently after ~40s I get the disconnect notification sound. Then off for 20s and the the cycle repeats.
I'm assuming it is stuck in bootloop for some reason but still nothing from the screen.
Phone hasn't been dropped, rooted, is running stock ROM etc...
any ideas?
Assuming the bootloop isn't caused by hardware failure then you can try forcing your phone into its Recovery mode by holding down the power button and volume down button simultaneously. From here, you may be able to roll your phone back or restore a previous backup. However, this often results in data loss, which isn't ideal, so you might have to weigh up your options.
If this doesn't work, you'll need to enter your smartphone's Safe Mode. When your phone is booting, and you see the manufacturer's name appear, press and hold the volume down button to put your device into Safe Mode. Here, you can follow prompts to hopefully remove whatever program, app, or software updates forced your phone into a bootloop.

It won't boot at all, the screen doesn't turn on. But surely something like this doesn't just randomly fail
My recommendation: take phone to authorized service center and let them try to fix it.
