International rom and Wifi calling for At&t - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

I am on At&t and wanted to get Wifi calling on my International S7. I have been doing some researching and not finding anything about it. Does anyone have it working on At&t? When I click the Wifi Calling option on my phone it tries to enable then says to just try again later. So I am not sure if I am missing an app or too.
I do have the CSC for Att loaded also.

Of course it won't work, AT&T VoLTE needs a branded phone.

Really, damn I didn't know. Well that sucks. I probably should have just stayed on my Oneplus 3 as it seems to have stronger signal than this phone does.
Well lesson learned I guess, thanks for the info!

Mh, but it needs Qualcomm variants anyway. The International S7 is Exynos (G930F, I suppose).

I don't quite understand your response... the Utility was made Exynos phones... So it will work, it just recommends to perform an EFS backup first.

Nope, maybe I don't explain myself. You mean the G935, but the OP has G930F.

I have flashed the AT&T CSC but it doesn't work still.
So it is either does the support it at all
Or AT&T does recognize my phone properly because when I log into the app it does the know what phone I have. I am wondering if it does the know the phone type then it won't let me use it.

For AT&T, Wi-Fi calling (and VOLTE) work a little different. You will need to call AT&T customer service and tell them you have an AT&T branded Android phone that has WiFi calling.
This will lead AT&T to add the ability to add Wi-Fi calling on your account. Most people I know that has this working has their AT&T account provisioned for a branded S7 snapdragon (G935A) rather than an international exynos S7 (G935F), which is done by reporting a G935A IMEI to AT&T (and not changing it on the device itself).

So maybe I am out of the loop, but where do you get an imei for a 935A exactly? I mean does Att not monitor it if they have 2 of the same imei's on their network at once?

Moderator edit Post removed

Has anyone had success with a Exynos and AT&T volte yet? I've been trying to figure this out for months. I've flashed CSC Selector to ATT, however when I tries to install the apps upon boot it freezes up and I need to disable the preconfig apk.
AT&T does have my line provisioned for volte as I gave them an IMEI for a g930a.
I've also enabled IMS and VOLTE options in the CSC file and I've turned on IMS Settings in the app. I can't get any IMS Profile to register.

How to update your system if you're not using the carrier from your S8(+) version.

This tutorial is for you who bought a carrier S8(+) and is using a SIM from another carrier and, because of that, not being able to update your system through your phones.
Error: "Service Unavailable: Sorry, we are having trouble authenticating your device. Try again later"
So, that's actually pretty easy to do, but a PC (or Mac) will be necessary.
The only thing you have to do is to download Smart Switch from Samsung on your PC and sync it with your device.
After you've done that, Smart Switch is gonna show the option to update your system.
PS: Beware it takes a while to download the update, at least if your S8(+) is from VZW.

Thanks for the post, I was having the same issue. I wonder though, if it's possible to configure an S8 to get OTA updates despite this issue. This is probably a question for Verizon support, huh?

I'm guessing you have to flash the firmware to a different carrier however according to the other thread it's not possible yet: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72031437&postcount=75
I brought Verizon version on Ebay but I'm using it on Cricket network. I get the OTA error and I'm currently trying to update via Smart Switch.

The reason people are seeing the error is because the phone is not activated through Verizon , so it is not in their server if you call it. another easy way to get OTA updates is to borrow a verizon sim from a friend, or even start a simple cheapest prepay plan. activate the phone with the sim, then everything will be ok, unless you wipe the phone. Friend of mine ,and myself tried on both his s8 and my s8+ , no problem at all.
we both are on ATT.

Will this change the model number so I can download different ROMs, after I get it unlocked? For example if I want a ROM that's popular for the verizon model, but I'm using the Tmo model? I think Tmo makes you wait a month after activating a device on their network before you're allowed to unlock it.

Yes, that's it. In fact I tried with the Verizon Sim, no Sim, att Sim. All work fine. I have a friend also has a galaxy s8, borrowed a Verizon Sim, activated , removed Sim, att Sim work like a charm with OTA. There are two draw back for using the Verizon phone with Sim from other carriers. No OTA updates unless phone is activated through Verizon, especially for those use the phone over sea. 2nd, no full LTE performance due to lack of band used by your own carrier. For example, band 17 from AT&T, the Verizon phone doesn't have that . Your LTE works, but you likely have lower performance on LTE depends on your location. Verizon phone are unlocked and compatible with other GSM carriers , but not fully optimized.

Thanks for the info. This should work even with prepaid. I'm thinking about getting: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Verizon-BYOD-4FF-SIM-Card-Kit/40716598 and then activate it. I just hope Verizon doesn't deactivate your phone once the prepaid time is up lol.

I think you should just borrow a sim from a friend or family , no need to spend the money and there is no impact what so ever to their service.
I was able to update an S8 by simply removing the SIM and running it with no SIM. Not sure if that'll work for other people, I had to tap 'check for updates' a few times before it went through.

I just did this on my Galaxy S7, and it fixed the issue, and was able to download the latest system update for Android. I was using an AT&T SIM card.
I did have to restart my phone after I removed the AT&T SIM card though, just telling what I did.

you all could just go here http://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model?q=sm-g950t&exact=1&r=TMB&v=&rpp=100 download which firmware you want. flash in odin and enjoy new update. this will work every time without problems and it does not care who your provider is at all.

Sprint + 955FD not compatible, no wifi calling

Bought 955FD myself here in saudi.
Followed instructions to make "cumulative 5 minute call" with middle east/north africa sim: regional unlock.
1st issue: wifi calling available?
Searched settings for wifi calling. Initially something pops up, such as an option but it asked for ?phone number? I dont recall, was too excited about getting ready to pop in sprint sim from edge6.
During this search i was waiting for smart switch to execute bringing files from edge6.
When its all done i see nothing about wifi calling on 955FD.
2nd issue: activating 955FD to Sprint network.
Called Sprint, they asked for HEX gave them the IMEI number, then informed phone is not compatible.
They informed me i could go into sprint store and have them flash the device to place it on sprint's system. But that didnt sound confident. The phone is not compatible but can be flashed.
I was told once before by sprint international they have special sims to be used on foreign devices. But after failed activation informed me the international sim would not work either. I am never satisfied with first tier help/information from sprint.
I am open any advice. Last hope is to switch to TMobile which i read in another xda forum it will work. But i am concerned about the wifi calling mainly.
If you're rooted, then flash the CSC selector and select TMB. It will bring you wifi calling and Volte in TMOBILE, Not sure Exynos model will support Sprint CDMA..
I'm using it in Tmobile.. Mine is G955F
Sent from my SM-G955F using Tapatalk
Not rooted. Never tried that before. Trying to stay away from that effort.
Must it be rooted to be used on Tmobile?

Thank you. Would them offering to flash the device be worth a try for experimental purpose?
No. The Exynos chip does not support CDMA. That is only in the Qualcom chip. The problem lies in your CPU, not software.
You have two different types of cellular networks, CDMA and GSM. Sprint and Verizon use CDMA while everyone else (in the world) uses GSM.
Kind of just an FYI, in which case your phone will work on T-Mobile, but not sure about the extra steps with WiFi calling (though, if it's on these forums, then you should be set there too).
Will update about wifi calling feature after I speak to Mobile in few weeks upon returning to stattes.
Thanks.

After signing up with Tmobile i am 99% all good. Only problem is no wifi calling feature has appeared.

WiFi calling on TMobile requires the TMobile firmware (which isn't available on the 955FD model, obviously).
Even unlocked US phones from Samsung can't use WiFi calling on TMobile unless they flash TMobile firmware.
You cannot flash the TMobile firmware on your device.

Getting AT&T features to work on unlocked S9+

Does anyone have a definite solution to this problem? I've read many opinions but haven't run across a solution. I have a Samsung unlocked S9+ running official AT&T firmware and userdata but the carrier specific apps and features still don't work. The best infomation I've found is that the IMEI numbers of the unlocked devices are not in AT&T system so the features/apps won't work.
If this is the case, has anyone had any luck getting AT&T to register their IMEI and get the features working?
What worked for me and others (see the at&t fw thread) is to call or chat with AT&T and give them a imei from a carrier branded phone(with your sim in, though this might not be required). Tell them you are trying to get wifi calling to activate and it is failing at the provisioning step and they will input your imei and it will reprovision. Then pull your sim and put it into your s9/+ running at&t fw and it will allow volte, wifi calling and call protect to work (these are the only ones I use).
Good luck
I talked with someone in AT&T technical support and they remoted directly into my phone, reset all app defaults and network settings.. This of course didn't fix anything so they opened a trouble ticket. They told me my IMEI was in their system and was OK. Haven't heard back yet.
why not just flash ATT U firmware?
I'm running AT&T official U firmware G965USQS2ARF4. What just occurred to me was that I didn't do a factory reset before or after applying it via ODIN.

Yes your IMEI is in their system. But it's not an IMEI from a branded ATT phone. You have to have the IMEI from an ATT phone like others have said, and like i had to do or you will not get the features, no matter what firmware you flash. This has been discussed in many threads. You have to have ATT change your IMEI in their system.

Wont help unless you have a 965U or the IMEI from an ATT phone . ATT Features will not work on 965U1 IMEI. AT&T told me theses features wouldn't work on an unlocked phone and asked if i had the unlocked version. I told them no, it was an ATT phone i bought from Best Buy and it has an ATT logo (not the truth, got it from Samsung) and that i read in the forums that there were some issues with the S9 and that changing the IMEI fixed everyone's problems. I said i had my s8 here that everything works on and she said it's worth a shot to try and she changed mine in their system to the IMEI from my AT&T Branded S8 that i provided them. 965U1 has worked flawless ever since. All features work.

sounds about right.. i mean you can switch csc while on U1 depending on the sim card inserted but U1 isnt meznt to have all the carrier crap they need for the special features to work so u get the bare minimum..
while on U firmware, it seems the csc doesnt fully switch like they did on the S8 devices.. i tested this on my sim unlocked vzw s9+ with an att sim and a sprint sim and although data and calls worked,it stsyed on verizon bootani and bloat etc etc no matter what i did.. before on s8 devices after a reset it would have changed the boot ani, bloat and woulda had all the carrier features..
im also surprised they changed your imei lol.. i thought that was illegal lol.. i guess if the carrier does it then its fine haha

Hard to believe that they would just accept another IMEI and register it to your phone. I thought these were all unique numbers that couldn't be used on more than one device. How did that change affect the phone that originally had the branded IMEI?

Didnt affect original s8 i used at all. or the s9. I replaced the s8 with the s9 when it came out so i just used the sim out of the s8 when the s9 arrived. s8 is just a spare phone now. I asked the operator if this would disable the other phone that the IMEI came from and she said no. I put sim from s9 in s8 afterwards just to test and it worked fine. They arent changing the IMEI of your actual s9, it still shows your original IMEI in your phone settings. They are just using the IMEI you provided on their end. What is actually going on behind the scenes i dont know. Maybe somebody that works in carrier support or may just have knowledge on how this actually works could chime in. I'm guessing they just use the IMEI to activate the features, since the unlocked one isn't eligible. I saw a better explanation in one of the firmware threads, if i run across it i'll post the link.

I will reiterate what is said above and clarify my post. You aren't asking the support team to change your phones imei. I think as stated previously that is a forbidden/illegal maneuver. The support request is to change the imei which is active in the at&t system as only carrier branded phones are able to use certain at&t features.
If you have an old AT&T phone its imei can be used to "trick" at&t into activation/provisioning. Then you can put your sim into a U1 phone using at&t firmware and use carrier specific features.
Hopefully, this is easier to understand and clears up some of the confusion I may have introduced in my original reply.

I previously had an AT&T branded S8+ with the same SIM that I'm using in the unbranded S9+ but I guess I never provisioned (enabled) WIFI calling. Dunno.
The "trick" of giving them an IMEI from an ATT branded phone doesn't usually work any more, maybe it used to, years ago.
This is why I won't buy OnePlus phones any more. I love their devices, best bang for the buck on the market, but no amount of my fiddling would get ATT to recognize it and provision VoLTE... so no wifi calling, no HD calling... when you make a call, your data drops to 3G, etc...
My Essential, somehow was on their "BYOD" plan and so it would give me VoLTE and HD calling, but no wifi calling. No wifi calling is stupid, because you aren't using their network at that point, so why should they even care?

"maybe it used to, years ago"... That doesn't apply in this context does it as carrier features VOLTE and Wi-Fi calling weren't even in existence years ago. And I'm not sure you have to give them anything. The claim by some is that just provisioning the features with your SIM on a branded device is enough.

"maybe it used to, years ago"... That doesn't apply in this context does it as carrier features VOLTE and Wi-Fi calling weren't even in existence years ago. And as someone who has repeatedly tried it, it doesn't seem to work. You can give them an IMEI from another phone, but it usually doesn't work. Either the IMEI is "on their list", or from a phone that is on the BYOD list, or it isn't. It's not the phone's fault, it is that AT&T is kinda being dicks about this... They want you to buy their phones, because most people sign a contract to get the cheaper price, or use their NEXT financing to spread the costs out. That creates a barrier to exit for most customers and protects AT&T's revenue stream from monthly invoices.
While bringing your own device makes them just as much money from the monthly bill, it doesn't help them "retain customers by locking them into a contract", so they usually don't give you full functionality...
I have had a working SIM from an ATT branded phone that was properly provisioned, popped it into my other device, and VoLTE went away. I would call them up and give them the IMEI from the phone, or one that I know worked, and still no go. The one exception was the Essential, and that was because for whatever reason, Essential went to the effort to get it on their BYOD list.
Trust me, if it was easy, I would be doing it and buying OnePlus phones exclusively every 6 months and that would be the end of it. LOL

Unlocked Version on Sprint

I cant seem to find out. Will the unlocked version work on Sprint. I get a much better deal if I preorder the unlocked version, but I'm on Sprint
The previous ones did, so I don't see why not. It supports Sprint's CDMA bands. That's the one I ordered. Pretty confident that it'll work.

Thanks. I know the OTA updates take longer, but I get more off if I order that one and trade my Note 8. Im only getting the regular Note 10. I feels more like my beloved Note 7's size.
I have an unlocked Note 8 that I use on Sprint. I actually loaded the Sprint firmware to get VoLTE as well. I plan to do the same with the Note 10+.

Sprint firmware? I ordered the base Note 10 unlocked and got a Sprint sim card for it directly from Samsung using their Galaxy forever program. I can trade it every year and basically be paying 1/2 the cost of a new one. It will ship on 9/4. The Note 10+ is just way to big for my small hands. I'll keep my Note 9 as a backup, traded the Note 8, and the Note 9 will be used when I need higher specs. I do like the thinness of the base Note 10 as well. Looking forward to it.

I too ordered the Note 10 as + would be too big When you get your new phone and put in Sprint sim, check to see if you have anything missing, feature wise(WiFi calling, VoLTE). If you don't then you are fine, if you do, then flashing Sprint firmware is an alternative.

Got the unlocked with a Sprint sim from Samsung
Wifi calling and VoLTE seem to be intact. But keeps saying WiFi calling app missing. Radio signal can be weak at times.

Hmm, WiFi calling is built into the system, so there should not be an app needed here. Did you transfer your data, settings from your previous phone? Maybe that device had wifi calling app which got onto your new device and somehow conflicts with the current settings

Yes, initially restored from Samsung backup, then from smart switch. I just wanna make sure I have the best modem firmware. This is the first time in a long time I'm getting 1x or 3G signal where I always got 4G/LTE.

So you have Note10+ or the regular note10? You can flash it with SPR firmware, it is available on SamFirm

I can't really say what would the best modem be, but I think the carrier would have as they test it on their network

If I flash it, could I use any other carrier in the future? Would it be better to get OTA updates?

If you flash it to SPR, you would get OTA updates when Sprint pushes it and you will be able to re-flash it to original unlocked firmware or to another carrier. I have T-Mobile firmware on my Note10

U1 is what you have. You need U, if you want SPR firmware. Run SamFirm app on your PC and type in your model as: SM-N970U and for region put: SPR. See if Auto is selected and and on the right side see if Check crs32 and decrypt auto is selected hit check update

Fold 2 AT&T Firmware help

I ended up buying an Unlocked Fold 2 on AT&T and now realize that there is no WiFi calling. I am looking to flash the AT&T firmware on it but I cant seem to find it. Guessing its either not available yet or I'm just dense hoping for the latter lol. Can anyone help me find the AT&T firmware to flash, thanks.
Well I found the ATT firmware on SamMobile and flashed it but still dont have WiFi calling. Anyone have any ideas or a different firmware to flash to get that feature?

Really? I didn't see an AT&T f916u firmware on SamMobile. Unless its an AT&T firmware with USERDATA file then you will not have working Wi-Fi calling.

Oh I thought the f916u1 that says AT&T was the firmware. Super glad then so there is a chance that sometime later something will be uploaded? Yeah not to knowledgeable with this stuff so just saw AT&T and thought that was it. Well I will have to check that site for a little while fingers crossed.
Guessing from past devices, once a "branded" complete AT&T firmware becomes available for the Z Fold 2 then you should be able to have the option for Wi-Fi calling of course your SIM has to also be provisioned for this feature. I think if you can wait it out, you will be able to have Wi-Fi calling at some point.
I bought a Tmobile one even though i use Google Fi (which basically uses Tmobile only on non Fi phones). I flashed the unlocked firmware SM-F916U1 and i have Wifi Calling. I choose XAA.

Is it normal for it to take this long to get the branded firmware? I'm also in SoaringSpoon's shoes, I can't get a reliable signal from where I live.

Every big US carrier but AT&T is up now on the F916U on SamFrew rn so I am hoping AT&T follows shortly. Far easier than exchanging the phone. Or what I would immage actually would happen, returning it and buying a new one lol.

It's just an AT&T thing. AT&T don't make firmwares available publicly. AT&T exclusive features like Wi-Fi calling and HD Voice aka Voice over LTE are usually not available to unlocked devices with a few exceptions like the Pixel and the recent S20 series. Fortunately for us here at XDA, I'm speaking for past experiences that there were AT&T firmwares available from either SamMobile or people here with access to the AT&T servers. Hardware wise, US Samsung phones should all be the same with exception of maybe Verizon due to their radio requirement differences. So all carriers features should work on all devices providing 1) correct software/firmware on the phone 2) the carrier's database sees the device as a capability device/system provisioned. I suggest that anyone looking for AT&T Samsung Firmwares, search the sub for maybe s9/s10/s20...see who in the past provided firmwares for this carrier, ask them. Hope this helps.
Hi I am on the same boat were you able to find the AT&T firmware for your galaxy z fold 2. If yes can you please help me. Thank you .
