u can download an opensource utility the will completley wipe your hard drive and make all the data unrecoverable even up to ministy of defence standards. Download the iso and write it to a CD. Boot from it and follow the instructions

Ubuntu ROM Flashing

Hi, guys, just wanted to ask it it possible to flash a ROM using Ubuntu (or in that case any other distro of Linux) or do you Need ActiveSync for that ?
If you havent got MS on your pc, then the best thing you can do is flash from memory card.

i just stumbled across this thread while looking for a solution to this problem. i am currently transfering everything over from my windows vista to my ubuntu so that i can eventually delete the entire windows partition. however, i do not have an sd card, so does anyone know a way to do this without one?
Windows computer or SD card.
You can get an SD card for like $20 at radioshack.
Just make sure to format it to FAT32 before you kill windows, else the bootloader on the phone won't read the image.

i have ubuntu and i flash using this app, works perfectly cause i used to flash with the sdcard but some of the newer cooked roms wont flash thru the sdcard. The app is very simple and self explanitory, you just have to put in bootloader mode (hold cam+power while softreseting) then plug it in when you get to the 3color screen

thanks guys

silly question for some of u speed freaks with ur phones

question since i run linux as my primary os i have read though the hacks n stuff to convert the sd card file system over to extended 4 parttion which is a native linux partition to improve preformance. THe question is first is it really worth it? Second since i run linux as a primary os could i just format it in linux instead of actually running the hack on it to convert it over? Since id still be able to read anything on the sd card as it is linux native.

first off, yes it is worth it because once you do the ext4 partition the space available of internal memory will greatly increase
and yes you can do it right off your linux system, no offense but if you would have read the CREATING EXT4 PARTITION thread all your questions would have been answered
im not sure how to do it with linux but its on the thread ^
i didnt see anything bout doing it native in linux. Hince why i asked all i seen was do this hack do that hack is why i posted. if it was there i got crap net so lol inbetween dc's i may have missed it... and within linux i could just copy all the data off the card and reformat it it formats just like anything would in windows just its linux not shutters windows

[Q] Linux Deploy fails at mounting partition

Hey everyone! I'm completely new at both Linux and Android. So this is probably a terrible question, but I can't seem to find a direct answer anywhere on the forum.
I have Linux Deploy on my Droid 2. When I start the setup for a distro (so far it has happened with every one I've tried), it finishes making a file system (ext3), and moves on to mounting partitions, where it fails.
Do I need to partition my sd card somehow? I'm not really even sure what questions to ask or how to proceed.
Try booting a linux live cd with gparted such as the Ubuntu installer.
You should be able to see if the filesystem was created successfully and if the install files were copied over.

Installing Windows 8 From SD Card to Android ?

Hello guys, I've downloaded Win8 iso, it has boot.img and other files. So i was thinking is there a bootloader for android ? I mean you can choose where to boot from ? External or Internal storage ? I hope you understand. if it's possible I wanna ask one more question. What is the Android's harddrive format ? FAT32 or NTFS ? is there any way to completely format it ? (I mean delete whole things in the device. OS, Framework, Identifiers, Boot Apps etc.). if it's possible to format whole device, I know it uses Linux Kernel right ? so Can't we create a Qemu Image ? then install OS to there ? Thanks for reply.
