Ubuntu ROM Flashing - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

Hi, guys, just wanted to ask it it possible to flash a ROM using Ubuntu (or in that case any other distro of Linux) or do you Need ActiveSync for that ?

If you havent got MS on your pc, then the best thing you can do is flash from memory card.

Thanks, Lipa!

you can flash from sd...simply rename the file ...nbh in kaisimg.ngh, put on sd and than hard reset

i just stumbled across this thread while looking for a solution to this problem. i am currently transfering everything over from my windows vista to my ubuntu so that i can eventually delete the entire windows partition. however, i do not have an sd card, so does anyone know a way to do this without one?

Windows computer or SD card.
You can get an SD card for like $20 at radioshack.
Just make sure to format it to FAT32 before you kill windows, else the bootloader on the phone won't read the image.

i have ubuntu and i flash using this app, works perfectly cause i used to flash with the sdcard but some of the newer cooked roms wont flash thru the sdcard. The app is very simple and self explanitory, you just have to put in bootloader mode (hold cam+power while softreseting) then plug it in when you get to the 3color screen

Syncing HTC Touch Pro - MAC/Flash new ROM

Hi, I've just bought a MAC, and I want to Flash to a new ROM with the MAC.
And to flash a new rom you need a stable connection via ActiveSync or WMDC.
How do I get this same stable connection on mac. (Without installing Windows OS on Mac!)
Thanks.
(I did search, sorry if I did it wrong )

he said to flash a new rom. and for gsm phones if you have hardspl you can copy rom files to an sd card and just flash the phone without a computer. i dunno how it works with cdma (sprint/verizon). htc rom tools and activesync is a windows only deal. if you can do sd card flash thatll be your bet.

Something free out there?
Also, this Flash from SD.. How does that work?
I recently got a macbook for my birthday and had the same problem. The best solution I've found so far is to use the SD card to flash. I've been doing that for a little over 2 months now without any issues at all (except for syncing contacts/calendar, but SyncMate solved that problem), and have heard rumors that if you run windows in bootcamp you can flash that way too, but I haven't tried that option yet.
see this post for the flashing guide

see this post for SyncMate (trial/demo should cover basic syncing needs)

Thanks! I've never noticed that Flashing from SD card column.! Thnks
i know you said you don't want to install Windows but thats what i did and have been doing for a while
I have windows 7 currently installed via VMware's Fusion and haven't had a single issue. Can flash roms, install apps, sync with outlook, etc.

I have windows7 on my pc, and when i try to install Rom it just says img not found... Same if i just copy it onto the sd(via usb transfer if it matters)

If you could give more information about the complete process that you have done, it would be easier for someone to help you.
For example, what is the name of the ROM?
How are you decompressing it?
Are you trying to flash via WMDC or SD Card?
I am also running Windows 7 on my computer and have no trouble at all.
I think it may be something to do with the process you are doing.
Let us know what it is. I'm sure we'll be able to help in some way.

It is http_://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=536751 this one and i already have installed max sense on the phone, and what to change it tolower ram usage and etc... Tried titantium and sense 2.1 no success. I tried via the usb connection. but cannot locate a device, after it is being rebooted. And then i tried to transfer the divimg.nbh to the sd card and reboot, no success - no image found.
one thing is clear: if you try to install the rom from sd card, your Rom name ("divimg....") is wrong. It should be something like "raphimg.nbh".
How do you establish connection between PC and your TP? There are reported some difficulties connecting your TP with the PC via Windows 7 using device center. Using the search may help...
good luck
Please post [Q] in general section.

I see, that should be the problem, thank you. Yes i am using the device center.
Divimg.nbh? Where'd you come up with that, lol?
It needs to be named RAPHIMG.nbh. Make sure the extension is correct, and you don't have RAPHIMG.nbh.nbh, or something like that. And the card has to be formatted to FAT32, and the image must be on the root of the card. That's all there is to it. You also need to have hard spl.
It worked just with the normal file.
same problem
Hi there...
I try to flash the new rom on my TP, and:
1) HardSPL is done, I flash one time a month ..
2) via SD card is written: Image not found - card has been formatted to FAT32, name of the image IS RAPHIMG.nbh.
3) via USB installation goes to the installation screen where "Image not found" is written also ... Active sync has been made, I've checked, that "USB support" is OK.
I have placed ROM and the *.exe file into one folder ..
Can anyone help me?
EDIT: Win XP Prof. 32BIT, Touch Pro and the ROM is ENERGY 23699 Sencity/Touch of Glass - tried both of them.

I could really use a hand with this pickle

okay, so i've found myself in a bit of a pickle. Recently I've been running the CM7 nightly's, but today I tried out the RoyalGinger rom and I believe it either corrupted my SD card or it's blocking my SD card from being used/read.
Tried several times to reformat it but each time it said 'checking SD card', but the weird thing is I have an active wireless connection, but I'm not getting texts. I can download from market, get on Facebook, etc, but my texts won't come in until I reboot the phone. A few times I booted it up and it wouldn't allow me to even see my homescreen because it'd pop up with EVERY app force closing (including google services, framework, etc), I was able to get back to my homescreen by clearing by Dalvik Cache luckily, however I'm still unable to do most anything. I went in to wipe/restore but it says cannot find SD card, directory invalid, cannot mount, etc.
Is there a way to reformat my SD card through terminal? If so could I get the code procedure for it? or anyone have any ideas other than picking up a new micro (which isn't a big deal but I'm strapped on money til Friday) but i'd still prefer to know that it's JUST my SD card and not my phone memory. Anyone? Anyone? Beuler? Beuler? Thanks in advance. I'm really sorry if I posted this in the wrong section, but c'mon, everyone gets one.
Ok so do u have a stock backup rom? Ide say go to rom manager and go to recovery and whipe etc.. Then install that stock back on it.....And can ur sd card even read at all? Just get any.file manager and check your sd.

I think I have a backup rom of CM6, but not an actual android stock rom. It won't allow me because it says 'must have an SD card inserted' then it says must have clockwork mod recovery installed, which I do, the current version. Now that it says that I'm afraid to boot my phone into recovery, and I can't really tell if my SD card will read. I was able to use my file manager and the entire SD folder is blank.
ten minutes later: still boots into recovery, none of my backups are available on it. I was thinking about downloading a rom from the phone and trying that way, but I don't know if it'd save to the (apparently unreadable) SD card.
Ok try this...... Find out what recovery you use 3.0.0.5 or the normal 2.5.1.4 for froyo then download a rom thats the same recovery as the one u have on it right now...... If its the same as your cyanogenmod 6 then install that from the recovery manually!!!
if its not then download a rom that is and make sure you use a file manager to see if the download sticks in your sdcard. And if it doesnt stick then......your problem sir might be a corrupted sdcard, or a phone that cant read your sd.
Hope its not either or, so give it a shot.....
And ur supposed to have a stock backup as soon as you root and switch roms man Lol makes life easier

It sounds like he doesn't have access to his sdcard. It doesn't matter how many backups you make if that's the case...
If you happen to have a sdcard reader or a microsd usb adapter you could format it in windows, copy the files you need, and start again. Also did you try connecting to your pc and seeing if it's readable that way? You can format the card if your pc recognizes it. If you have adb set up you can push the recovery image to the phone without a sdcard. But once again without a working sdcard you won't be able to flash a new rom.
Hey guys I'm pretty sure it's just my SD card. I tried saving an image, just to test it and it says 'an SD card is required to download images.bin', so I'm HOPING it's just my SD Card, however my notifications are working properly so I can at least deal with it til friday, if it IS my SD card reader in the phone, well... I have a plan for that, however due to already technically breaking that I shouldn't go into it. Thanks to you guys for taking the time to post and if you know anything else that might help me I'd gladly accept it.

Hi, I have a reader on my laptop but not the adapter, so I can't tell and yes, you were right, I can't see any of my backups (which I have my stock, then cm6 and cm7) so I either need to find an adapter or get a new SD card. luckily I pulled all of my camera images off my phone last night when I put the new rom .zip on the phone sd, so I'm not really worried about 'losing' anything as long as I get my phone working back in proper condition.
Well that happened to me before as well.. All i did was replace sd cards lets the phone do its thing flash a different rom like CM6 or CM7 and then once replaced i got the adapter for my old sd card reformatted through windows and put it right back in and it worked.. So try that?
Ill have to. Thanks a lot guys I do appreciate any comments and suggestions and ill be picking up a new sd later thia week to fix it but can amyone recommend a good brand sd to pick up? the apparently failed one was a samsung 8gb

I usually use sandisk so yeah try that?
Something similar happened to me. Your SD card likely has a bad or corrupted file. I used Win7 to copy over what I could to a folder in my PC. The Win7 automatically refused to copy over the corrupted files while carrying over everything else. In XP, your file transfer stops and you have to try again to ensure you have everything that's not corrupted transferred over.
After copying, I just went ahead and formatted the SD to FAT32, transferred everything back, installed on my phone, and voila.
Go into recovery and partition the card. You'll lose everything on it but it should be useable after that

[Q] I got a question.

Ok guys I have a boot0: MBR boot:0 done error whenever I boot up my computer ever since I attempted to install windows 8 but cancelled before it was done. Now I'm guessing that I have a corrupted bootloader. Is there anything I can load onto an SD card and boot on the computer to fix the bootloader because my computer can boot from an sd card, I know that because that is what I was about to use to install Windows 8. Any help would be great!!!
PS: I was going to install windows 8 on a separate partition, so I'm hoping that Windows 7 is still in there. Do you think it is? Just another question.

Nah man I partitioned HDD in windows 7 before I even went to install windows 8 and when I was in the installation for windows 8 I selected the second partition (the one without windows 7) and it was expanding the windows 8 files and i cancelled it and it undid all the changes (lol apperently right?) and i restarted the system. And then it was doing that.

Made big mistake while flashing custom rom

I need some help, stupid me put the files i need to flash custom rom on my sd card and when i went to install the zip it was not there, its not my sd card at all. Is there anyway to get those files back on the internal storage instead of my sd card or is there a way to access the actual sd card in cwm? If not is there a way to do a factory reset back to the factory rom?

Don't panic, all hope is not yet lost and I don't think you've bricked your device. Can you describe in more detail the exact steps you took? When you say 'sdcard' do you mean your external SD card or the tablets' internal memory (its called /sdcard on the tablet, so its a bit confusing).
There is absolutely ways to recover your tablet assuming you took the proper precautions beforehand. Before I give an answer (assuming my knowledge is even correct) can you give more details of your setup? Which recovery do you have? Which ROM do you have installed? Is your bootloader unlocked? Are you rooted? All of these answers will give more information and will guide you to a better answer.

OK so you're not bricked, you're not messed up at all. CWM doesn't support flashing from external SD cards, so all you need to do is move the files to the /(root) directory of your tablet. Are you still able to boot up the tablet normally? If so, connect it to your computer with the USB cable (assuming you've got the correct drivers installed, and ADB/fastboot both work) and just copy the files to the first directory you see when you double click "internal storage". This will be the root directory of your tablet. From there, you should be able to just boot into CWM and it will show your ROM there.
I'll be actively monitoring this thread so if you have any questions feel free to continue to post. I know how frustrating it is to post a question and not get an answer until days later.
*EDIT* ok so I just noticed one thing: you're trying to install the Hydro rom, correct? So you need to go back to STOCK using this guide. Then, re-install CWM, re-root your tablet, and then try to install the Hydro rom.

Then the next logical step will be to diagnose whether you have the drivers installed correctly. Do you have the Android SDK pack installed? It comes with some google drivers, and there is an aftermarket driver file that helps the computer recognize a larger variety of devices. Follow the steps in this thread to get those drivers working. If those don't work, try install the official Asus Pad suite drivers.

Hmm, I'm running out of suggestions since I'm still learning all this stuff too. I guess since you can't get past the Asus screen it won't detect in the computer. So the next step I can suggest is to get fastboot mode working. Do this by powering your tablet off. To get into fastboot mode, press and hold the POWER & VOLUME DOWN buttons simultaneously. It'll show some words about booting into recovery, don't do that. Just wait for a few logos, then select the middle one (USB icon) with the VOLUME UP key. Connect your tablet to your computer and you should be recognized to allow you to push files over (I don't know what the syntax is for fastboot but I'm sure it won't be difficult to figure out)

That's a good plan. When I flash a new ROM, I always make sure I have at least one known-working ROM and at least one nandroid backup just in case.
Also, just as an organization suggestion, name the ROM folder something like "1-ROMs" or "All ROMS" or something else at the beginning of the alphabet so it appears at the top of the list when you're choosing a zip to flash. I personally use "1-ROMs", "2-Kernels" and "3-Extras", so they're the first three folders listed (Extras is for Gapps, mods, other flashables). It saves a lot of scrolling time.

You were able to return it?? Amazing attitude ASUS has over there. You weren't charged for repair at all?
I did a similar thing on workmate's tablet as he asked me to flash him custom os. I installed TWRP recovery successfully and copied firmware I wanted to install on internal SD. Then I wiped DATA. I thought it would wipe only user data, but it wiped also the root of my SD card with firmware. Before that I wiped system as well. So now I'm stuck at ASUS logo after power up.
I will try methods that were described in the thread by opethfan89 and atomicblue with adb push and Linux after I come back from vacation (14th this month). Hopefully I will be able to save the tablet. Otherwise it'll have to be sold for spare parts as ASUS quoted over 300 € (about $400) for repairs claiming the warranty is void (which I know) as I unlocked bootloader. They said they won't even try flashing it but they'll just replace motherboard as they never repair unlocked devices. I can't imagine car service refusing to change oil claiming they are concerned that owner might have abused it and they'd rather change whole engine instead.
