Screen went black, phone still working - General Questions and Answers

My phone's screen stopped working whilst I was using it(1). Other than that the phone is working(2). Are there any general tips for how to get it working again other than "take it somewhere to get repaired"?(3) It's a Sony Xperia Z3, just over 3 years old and has been very well treated.
1) browsing and listening to music. the music played but the screen went blank. i've long pressed power; held power and volume up until the vibration; pressed the yellow button under the sd card cover.
2) led flashes. phone rings when phoned. pressing power toggles the screen between black and the very slightly not-quite-black you get normally when there's a "black" background on a site/photo.
3) seriously, i know that there are places which repair phones.

[Q] Can't see anything on display

WARNING: not a native english speaker.
when I try to start the phone the following occur:
the display light turns on, shortly after that the phone emits that startup vibration, the backlight remains on for aprox. 85 seconds then the phone aparently shuts down. that meant, the backlight of the display turns off.
problem history:
I was at work and as usual i was listenin to music via handsfree. while my phone was in poket it seemed that somehow my poket pressed the sleep button and turned the screen up. no prob here. i got the phone out of ma poket. reverted the volume @ maximum and then locked the phone and turned the screen off and putted back in pocket. after some time i wanted to change the song. got out the phone, turned on the screen but nothink apeared except a horizontal line in the middle of the screen. I tried to shut down/up the screen but nothink apeared. after a couple of tries the screen turn on but it was unusual what i saw on it. I saw a sketch of the energy rom home screen with diferent colors.
Meantime i was tryng to get the screen outta sleep the music still played in the phones.
I thaugt that a reset will do but it didn't. got out the battery and got home. reasembled it, powerd up the phone and voila! the phone started up normaly. got out the battery, introduced the sim card. powerer up the phone but bad luck. the happiness was short lived. the problem camed back. another thing i noticed is that when i powwer on the phone i let it on but it wont output that energy rom bootup sound.
Can someone elude me with whats the problem with my phone?
hope I was clear enough!
Have a great day/night!
UPDATE: LEFT IT OVERNIGHT WITHOUT THE BATTERY AND NOW ASSEMBLED BACK. IT'S WORKING BUT I THINK IF I GIVE A RESTART THE problem will come back.

[Q] Help! - GS3 sound stops working after device goes to sleep!

Just bought a second hand GS3 from ebay, the screen had a small crack but otherwise was meant to be OK. I am finding that the sound will work fine after a restart for as long as I use the device but then, after it has gone to sleep (screen off for five seconds) all sound will stop working.
I've tried clean wipes/formats etc. and also checked all relevant settings I could find (including turn off all sound in accessibility; what an odd option).
I've tried two ROMs and three kernels.
I've tried searching google and xda for hours but haven't found anything that wasn't related to the headphone port; this affects both speaker and headphone, although when the headphone is in and the sound has died I can hear some strange static noises when it's meant to play sound, could be interference or a clue.
I've dismantled the phone and inspected for damage, nothing obvious. While dismantled I tried applying pressure to the speaker flex cable and various other IC's to no effect.
It really seems like a software glitch since it only happens when the device goes to sleep;
You can turn the screen off and unlock within 3 seconds and it will be OK.
If you wait 5 seconds with the screen off - boom, no sound.
Any ideas? Is there some deep idle sleep setting that kicks in after 3 seconds I can disable or some way to log audio errors or... something?
Thanks

[Q] Black Screen, but phone appears to work

Hi,
Picked up a HTC one S of off a mate today who dropped it and cracked the screen. Replaced the screen for him but it's still not working. Here's symptoms and what I tried.
-black screen all the time
-phone boots, three buttons at bottom lit up, LED flashes green and if I call him the phone vibrates
-if I hold down the power and volume buttons down, once the home lights have flashed 15 times I see a few lines of flicker for a fraction of a second on the screen and then nothing.
-Touchscreen appears to work as it vibrates when touching it (and I'm inputting text presumably?)
-He hadn't customised/flashed any other ROM on there.
Can someone perhaps shed light on next steps for troubleshooting?
Thanks
Tobias

Xperia Z3 No Image - Robotic Voice

Hi,
I got a Z3 which was described as stuck on the boot screen but it actually seems to work to some degree but no image is displayed on the screen and there is a robotic voice which sounds like a visual description tool/app.
When I collected the phone I was told they installed talkback then it all went wrong.
The phone turns on and displays the ‘SONY XPERIA’ start screen with a tiny strip of fuzzy lines at the bottom of the screen which disappear after a while but the white Sony text remains.
Then the backlight dims and the robotic voice starts like it is describing things on the screen BUT it is not understandable or in a foreign language. Every now and again there is a word which can be understood.
Pressing the power button it seems to lock/sleep with the voice announcement ending and it just sits there but occasionally it says something random.
If you press the power button the backlight comes on but the screen remains black - no image.
Using a stylus to tap around the screen the voice responds and it vibrates and you get pings and clicks as you would expect.
I seem to be able to get into the dialer/keyboard because it then reads outs numbers in English and possibly some letters.
Plugging in the charger the LED lights up as expected; Red - Orange - Green
It rings when I phone it and then the LED flashes white for a notification.
Powering it up while holding volume up - it vibrates 3 times.
Holding the off switch the red LED comes on and it vibrates.
When I connect it to Windows an icon appears in file explorer but blank when double clicked.
PC/Xperia companion opens & recognises it but displays the warning “Your device is locked - 1. Set Xperia to MTP mode”
I have tried one of those USB screen emulating/mirroring applications but it can’t connect either.
I tried Sony Mobile Flasher, but it tells me "Device connected with USB debugging off. For 2011 devices line, be sure you are not in MTP mode"
What can I do?
Your help much appreciated.

I broke my screen- how can I power down?

Like it says, I broke the screen (crushed in the frameworks of my recliner) but it is still powered up. I press the power button, and I can feel it twitch, but it never shuts off. Is there any multi-button way to power down? Not only can I not see my screen, but I think the touch is bad as well. I could not get it to answer the call when I called if from a land line.
I've pulled the SIM, so that all my calls go to vmail.
Good news- I got it to shut off. The only way to tell is to connect it to my PC and see if it enumerates in the device manager. It does not show up under adb or fastboot, so I must have deleted all those keys with the last OOS update.
If I just hold down the power button for about 30 seconds, it eventually gives one big twitch indicating that it is shutting down. After that, it does not enum in device manager any more, although the charging LED is still operational.
More good news- I have a new 7 Pro on the way as a replacement. Looking forward to that.
