Does s8+ camera need a second to be fully stable - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

hey
once i open the camera, specifically from a third party app (snapchat) ...I noticed colourless blackish lines moves on the screen just for a second a 2 and everything is stable after that.
For eg if I make a video in emergency, without waiting for camera to be stable, the video will show few right moving lines for a a moment at the inception nd then its all good.
The samsung main camera also shows moving visions if looked closely upon starting but is not that prominent
Is this some sort of camera adjustment at beginning or defect?

[Q] seeking specific camera (and other) functions

hello.
haven't been on this site for quite some time, but i am familiar with using custom roms.
i'm using an htc desire s with android 4.0.4, stock rom from htc site.
there are certain things i like about ICS, and other things that simply boggle me.
i've been considering using a custom rom again, but i was hoping someone could shed some light on specific features/functions.
in other words, i would be changing to a custom rom if one is available that has these features, otherwise i'll just leave it alone.
firstly: the camera.
when trying to take up-close photos (macro), the camera will attempt to focus, will succeed, then quickly snap back to being blurry. this happens less with "auto focus" turned off, but it's still frustrating (i can see the hardware moving the camera focus to where i want it, but i can't keep it there). turning on the Scene called "close up" will allow the hardware to stay in the focused range, where i want it, but it overrides the white balance, such that i can't adjust the white balance any more, and the colour is always -always- different from the colour settings in the "auto" Scene setting. very frustrating indeed.
that's problem one.
but the bigger problem (with the camera) is:
when taking a photo where a flash is required/desired (in low lighting), i have to take many -many- photos before i happen to roll the dice and get one in focus. basically, holding up the camera to the darkened scene, the screen is mostly dark. i can take a photo with the flash, but the camera uses the same moment of flash to implement the focus, which is essentially entirely useless. in other words: dark scene, dark screen, flash ready, click to take a photo, flashtrytofocustakepicture = blurry picture. the picture only turns out well if the focus happens to catch in just the right way at the right time.
in contrast, while the stock camera app behaves this way, when i use google goggles, the camera behaves differently. there is a simple button which turns the led light on and off BEFORE taking a picture, which means the focus can function normally on a fully lit scene and then a picture can be taken, in focus. funny thing about that: the photo result that shows as a preview (immediately after snapping a photo in google goggles) is the desired photo, however it is not the photo that the app recognises nor which is saved on the sd card. anyhow, that's a different issue.
the point is: it seems clear to me that the hardware is capable, and the software is capable, but they have not been married correctly in 4.0.4.
would anyone be able to confirm whether another rom or camera app has the macro and light-before-focus capabilities described above?
i have some other questions about the way text copy and paste is implimented, but i'll just stick with the camera question for now.
thanks in advance for any information.

[Q] Front camera exposure bug

Hello guys,
I don't know if it happens to you, but I've got some ugly bug on my front camera. Wherether I'm trying to shoot photos, I've some good exposure in preview, but after I shoot a picture, the exposure goes under or over exposure, but never the one I get on a preview screen (before hitting the button). Is this a known bug and is there any way to fix it.
I didn't see anyone complain about it, so I think it's not common. By the way, I tried to use different roms and diferent camera apps, it all the same.
The only thing I found on the internet is this site:
https://community.republicwireless.com/thread/26076
Yea, it's a common bug, that haven't been fixed.
To me it only happens in very good daylight and the photos end up overexposed, HDR doesn't help.

In the one plus one camera app this bug is not there! In all others that I have used its there!

So I have this bug too, any pictures taken with the front facing camera outside during the day are almost entirely white, you can just about make out what the picture is of. But the preview and movies taken with the front facing camera are fine suggesting it's software. I have no screen protector, no case, unrooted, KitKat out of the box. Tried different camera apps with no difference.
I know this was posted a while ago but any updates on this? Can lollipop change anything? I have a moto g LTE in the US so no L for me yet. Can I adjust settings in the camera app (I downloaded the apk for the moto camera that has settings access)?
This issue, along with the multitasking problems that mean I can't even listen to music while surfing, have tempted me to give up on this phone entirely.

Dunno if it's fixed in Lollipop, but I can test. I just don't use the front camera much.
I got no such problem with multitasking at all, even on Lollipop, let alone KitKat that was way better in the memory management.

Thanks for offering to test it - I'd really love to know if L makes a difference. I don't often use my front facing camera either, but just knowing I don't have the option to use it is seriously off putting. Last week I ran into a friend of mine I hadn't seen in years, and after trying to take a picture together you couldn't see either of our faces. It was so disappointing.
As for the multitasking, it seems like some phones have an issue while others don't - all I know is that when I have Google Play open, launching Chrome causes Play to close after 30 seconds, no crash error or anything. Same with the home screen having to redraw after exiting almost every app I use, and Chrome tabs reloading every time I switch between them. I've gone as far as uninstalled the memory hogging facebook and other apps, but the problem persists. Painful is the only word for this phone at the moment.

Tested and I couldn't reproduce the bug on 5.0.2. It takes pretty normal pictures now.
Can you tell me if on KK you can enable HDR? On lollipop this is not accessible at all.

I have hope for the lollipop update then! Yes on Kk you have three options for HDR, on, off and auto.

Camera defocusing when recording starts

I have noticed this problem a couple month ago but figured only today that I could post here.
So the issue is pretty simple to describe. When recording a movie, the focus moves just a little bit right after I click the record button.
So if get the focus straight before recording, the focus will move and the movie will be blurry.
It seems I can prevent this to happen if I focus manually, hold my finger on screen while I start recording with another finger. But it doesn't work 100%
Am I the only one with this issue? Any idea how to fix it?
When I found this out I was rolling with Chroma, since then I went back to stock but the problem is still there.
Thanks in advance for your help
Nobody?
I noticed a while back that when I take a photo using my text messaging app, it is constantly trying to focus. Yet, when I switch to my actual camera app, it will focus just fine. I would suggest trying a different app. I don't do much video, but I know what you are talking about. Its freaking annoying. Its already focused just fine but then its like it decides to just try again and it takes longer while you're recording. Definitely try a different camera app. There might be one with focus lock or something like that.

Front camera crashes pixel experience (caf)

Hello, when i open my front camera it crashes, like it works for second then it crashes in 3rd party apps, in the main camera app when i open it its just going home.

Question Camera rotation lag

Hi there, I'm currently on S22 Ultra 8/128 (upgraded from note8).
Since I bought the phone, I noticed stock camera app is very laggy when I rotate the phone. I tried to figure it out and found that on the stock camera app, when I rotate the phone, not only the camera app but the whole UI rotates, and that creates the lag issue. You can try 2 methods to understand the issue.
1. Open the message chathead and open the camera. When you rotate the camera, the chathead will change its position from vertical side to horizontal side (depends which direction you rotate the phone). On note8, the system doesn't work like this. When you rotate the camera (with the rotation locked vertical), the chathead will stay on the vertical side.
//I just tested, even unlock the rotation, on note8, when open camera and rotate, the system still stay vertically, only function icons in camera app rotate.
2. You can open other camera apps like Instagram and rotate the phone, lag issue won't happen as the system still understand that the UI is vertical locked.
You can also see the green dot that notify the camera is using. When on stock camera app, when you rotate, the dot rotates/ changes its postion too. However, it doesn't when you use camera in Instagram or Facebook messenger.
The question is, is there anyway that we can lock the camera UI so that the phone UI will stay vertically whenever we rotate the camera?
Now, let me start by saying I have the 256 Snapdragon model, but on mine, I have no lag at all. When I rotate, the app actually does not rotate. The scene does and the icons on the screen rotate, but the app orientation actually stays the same. I do see the camera notification move as you noted.

I understand the orientation of the camera app stays the same. But all the back layer (the system UI) rotates when I rotate the phone. So it creates lag. You can see the videos below
Note8: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1D_7c3gBpkiF4DIZbUD54gwsGLGUGI57U/view?usp=sharing
S22u: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DWj9tidd_xm_O3hREslqsWo64I0mF34b/view?usp=sharing
S22u Instagram: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1x9jG5sNavpCXWDt4P6QzwqryFA1qJ3c0/view?usp=sharing
You can see on note8's video, when I rotate, the chat head still on the same position (vertical orientation) and no lag. But on s22u, when I rotate, the chathead (and notification bar) changes its position. You can also notice the lag when my cat ran down the stair at few last seconds of the video. However, on S22u instagram's camera, it works just like note8 camera's algorithm (chathead stays at the same position), so no lag.
Thus, it can imply that, on note 8 camera and s22u instagram camera, the system understands that the UI should be vertical locked when rotating the camera. However, on s22u stock camera, the system UI rotates whenever I rotates the camera.
So how can make the stock camera on S22u vertical locked or at least the whole UI vertical locked when in camera app? If we can make that happen, i think the camera lag issue on S22u will be eliminated.

OK, so when I use the camera and I rotate my phone, the UI does rotate, but there is no lag. When I make a video and change orientation the UI does not rotate and I have no lag in the video. I can upload a video that shows this. Like I said on my first post, I am on a 256 Snapdragon phone, so maybe the lack of memory is causing your issue. I have tried everything to replicate what you are talking about and cannot.

Have you tried let the chat bubble stay when using the camera?
No, I do not use chat bubbles. I have recorded video and rotated the phone and as I said, the UI does not rotate as it does in camera mode. The green indicator for the camera stays in the top right corner (essentially it is now in the top left corner) in video mode but moves to bottom right (essentually moving to the top right as it would be in portrait mode) in camera mode. Hope this makes since to you.
Also, there is no lag in the video at all as I rotate the phone while recording. The playback also has no lag in it.

Your idea about lack of ram may be true. I have no lag (or just a little) when rotate camera without chat bubble. But when the chat bubble comes up, the lag issue raises. It is samsung's (or google's) fault as when at the same situation, note8 (according to my clip) doesn't get any lag. I still think that the UI should stay vertical whenever the camera rotates to eliminate lag issue.
Bold: you can see the problem when you rotate the camera and go to camera setting. The setting UI will change from vertical to horizontal; and that implies the system UI rotates along with the camera. On note8, the camera's setting always in vertical even you rotate the camera. It is strange that camera in instagram, facebook messenger and other apps still work like note8's stock camera.
