Is it possible to flash g9550 firmware on the g955u? - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

I'm in Hong Kong right now and would like to be able to use VOLTE. Both models are on sd835, but the g9550 has 2 extra gigabyte of ram and dual SIM, also the modem might be different too. So I'm not too sure if this is possible.

seems no one has answered you as of yet. I am currently investigating to see if some parameters of devices rom could be edited. Not sure as of yet, but, will have an answer for you soon enough. will keep in touch.

Definitely not possible, completely different partition tables and the Chinese variant has some extra CDMA and LTE band support to be used in China only.

Actually, China used the GL CP for an earlier firmware it has. Ive been seeing a lot of "cant do's," on this forum and am amazed at how people has set everything to be IMPOSSIBLE. I and another person thats part of these forums have been secretly investigating and am coming up with ideas on how to do things. you are correct as China uses only 2g and 3g on their basebands but are incorrect as to it not being able to work. Research and dig and dig and dig and you will then find the answer. And although my posts and thanks are low does not mean i am a noob. Name change to create a better name for myself with more logic and optimism to contribute what others may feel wont happen. Thank you and have a good evening and its not an attack but a formal gesture to do a bit more research before claiming not possible= impossible.

To answer this question, "YES." Yes it is possible to flash the US version AP, CP( it works but has its issues and wouldn't recommend it) CSC should be able to install. !!NOTE!! Please do not attempt to flash BL as it has different settings scripted into it such as ram, storage, etc. G9550/128gb6gb ram G955U/64gb/4gb ram.
Also Note that if G9550 with G955U firmware boots properly, it has been said to be a bit choppier than normal. What is recommended is using the G955U1 firmware. Also, same as above is ONLY able to be flashed and updates with either version have to be done manually, I, have not tried this myself as i am in the process of this attempt. It has been discussed in foreign forums and has been done.
Please do not attempt if you are unable to come out of a brick or soft brick. I am in no way responsible if you mess up your phone. Good luck

tried flashing through normal odin and a no go. trying the modified Odin, but, before i do further readings say the AP and others have to be slightly modded. will look into this more once i finish up here.

Volte probably won't work if the carrier only supports g9550 though, yeah? Would probably give it a go on the weekend. Cheers.

Warning! DO NOT FLASH OneS S3 with S4 roms or images! [TO DEVS][PREFIX][S3][S4]

After a lot of testing I have to the conclusion that the ROMs and images from the S4 cpu versions of One S is NOT compatible with the ones with the S3 cpu variants!
This includes ROM and CWM. This means also for now there is way to root the S3 one s variants. If you try flash the cwm anyway...you will screw your recovery and you can no longer hard reset the phone.
MOD AddOn:
To All Developers!!! For now, please add a prefix [S3] or [S4] to your thread title and mentioned it in OP
i just ordered another One S from Tmobile, do u know if they send out S3s now instead of S4s?

All T-Mobile ones will have the S4. The S3 models are only for certain Asian and European markets.
Still though that may be true I haven't checked I still think the forum should be divided by version bases EU, UK, US etc.
Even if it had to be done by sub forum for VB it's really easy to do and would clear up a lot of issues people are having over here.
Duh? Isn't this an obvious warning? Does it really need a thread? Who the hell would flash a kernel made for another soc to their phone?

Because you have not used a one S that's why you don't know. There is no way to tell physically whether the One S has an S3 or an S4 processor. No markings, no physical differences, no model name differences on the box, nothing at all. This means to most people, a one s is a one s, most people do not know there is even two versions until they flash it and its too late.

Additionally...because literally everyone assumes there is only one version of the one s, nobody states that whether their rom or cwm is for the s3 or S4 version...making it a real bummer... but as of now, unless someone specifically mentions its for the s3, DO NOT try to root or flash an image for you one s, because literally none of them out there are for one s for now
Are there any RUU's for the S3 version ?
I think the only conflicting issue would be the boot.img, so if you just flash that along with a S4 ROM you should be fine.
as for CWM, I assume there will be a line of code which specifies which device it is for, Edit it to the S3 version (VilleC?) and all should be fine.
As for the root package, That should require a simple updater-script edit and it will work !
As I told on another thread.
If partitions are the same (we need someone to check if true) the S4 roms should work with the S3 variant except for the Kernel and the boot.img . I guess a new cwm would be needed too

This is XDA we are a huge community, don't tell me we can't and nobody ever thought about asking around people's serials, part number, FCC ID and look for differences. They CAN'T be no differences. Anyway, the S3 models are 1.7GHz and the GHz is writen on the back of the box.
Yes, It will state on the box which version it is. And also in HBOOT it will say VILLEC So users will know before flashing which model they have.
If it becomes too big of a problem, Im sure we can get the mods to add a sub section. But they wont open one until we have some development and tutorials for it, Other wise it will be empty
I have requested that we get a S3 Development forum for this phone. We had a previous war about splitting the forums, but in this case, I think it's warranted. There's a decent difference here, so this distinction needs to be made and understood.

Yeah, I agree with that, The previous split between US and EU was a bit un needed, However i think this S3 - S4 split is important

Definitely, I don't want to get crippled/bricked/whatever because a dev forget to write S3 or to state clearly S3. If the Tegra and S4 One X forums are TOTALLY separate, we should at least get a sub forum for each S3 and S4!

[Q] How do I port a Modem/ radio?

Hey guys I got a I727 but I live in Brazil.
I am having a lot of issues with the connectivity here.
I tried a lot of combos ( roms / kernels / radios / SIM cards) and it still acting randomly. Sometimes it works for days and it makes me believe that I got it fixed, sometimes for hours on even less than that. I've trying almost everything.
I know we can use radios from t989 and blaze's and note but all I got here in the forum was from Canadian or American devices.
So my next attempt is to try to port a radio optimized for my country from a device that is similar to the i727.
Does anyone have an idea of how to port radios? I want to use one optimized to use my country's frequencies.
Thanks in advance guys.
And please take easy on me, I m just a newbie
No one ever tweaked radio to date but Sammy!!! sad but true lol

Sorry, but whos Sammy, and also if none tweaked a radio how do we are able to use blazers and t989 and notes? PS: ( Iknow t989 are twin of ours i727, but i believe the modem hardware is a bit different since they dont have LTE) .
Sammy = Samsung.... Its a common nickname
Some SR users USE blaze or T989 radios as is (so they can use their phones on T mobile) ... Those are never tweaked radios and nobody can

Never mess up with things like radio...you might easily end up bricking your phone or messing the IMEI number which is at least a pain in the ass to fix...you can just use (flash) things that are commonly known to work with your skyrocket (learn here)..And talking about t989 radio in a skyrocket , never think it works right..expect ton of problems in connectivity.. But at least you can run t mobile on SR (even though very buggy) !

The chipset isn't the mainboard "brain"? If I do an analogy with PC, main boards controls everything and a modem is just a PCI card controlled by the motherboard. If so, that does not mean that my radio is actually the same but that the brain is. Maybe the way that the modem communicate with the motherboard is standard?
If so I will look up to some Sam modem for a phone from here that got the Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon chipset, and then I will try to flash it.
Im aware that Sony got some models here, but I not as much crazy to flash their modems
The modem/radio chipset not soc chipset

Im aware of the risks of bricking it. If it bricks it doesnt matter to me, thats already a useless device, since I cant receive calls or send message properly and Im not a fan of cell games.
I have flashed radios/roms/kernels/boots thousand of times for the SR and many other devices.
About the Q&A dont worry i wont post nothing like that.
I am just looking for info from ppl that had the same idea that i did ( flash other devices radios) to minimize my bricking risk. Again I dont care abou brick it!!!

It was also in part a educated guess. The imei issues the other guy was talking about can happen if your not carefull and I also had to see if the cwm files had ril or not (They dont). Others are testing this modem/radio so Just wate.

You do realize that every single thing done on this entire website incurs a risk of bricking, right? It's his own responsibility to know that, not your responsibility to shove it up his butt. He's trying to figure something out to make his device better for him, which it sounds like he knows the risks of, and which is also the whole point of this website. If you have no useful advice to offer, don't talk.

Can I flash N915G Lollipop to N915T?

Hello everyone, can i just simply flash N915G firmware via odin to my t-mobile N915T?
No. Different hardware.
You can if you want but it will just bootloop... Might be same hardware but the different models are Samsung's answer to stopping grey imports....
You can't flash different model firmware to your device...
Even if you change that sales code or is it CSC that has to be changed from TMB to XSA??

Sales codes are only used to differentiate minor differences in software (such as restricting access to APNs) within a ROM. Even if it was relevant (which it isn't) once you flash a new ROM on, all that is moot.
Thanks for the fast response!

Doesn't help I'm not a dev, they might be able to do a workaround but unfortunately most experienced devs went with the Note 4. Unless they wish to develope for a device not their own, unlikely, we just have to try ourselves.
I don't have time to learn but the devs with experience might help out a rookie dev... At t65he very least they might point out where the problem might lie...

How many actually experienced devs who've dedicated a significant amount of his or her general developing time to the Edge are there even?

Sprint LS997 variant updated to ZV9

I just got the update and for the first time it was nice to be up to date with security patches for a change lol... the previous updates were usually a month or two behind..
But the download didn't specify fixes or improvements, I wonder if anyone knows a way to find out if there are any, like at the sprint website with a change log.. I can't seem to find one as I used to find one with previous phones with sprint.
the update was about 650 mb.
and nobody to update it to zv9. Seems the rom community has halted.
hi guys my phone update to zv8 can i do downgrade firmware to zv6 or earlier ?
No u cant unfortunately
I'm almost willing to forego my root and hotspot for an updated phone at this point. Particularly because every rom I've tried has been a goddamn Bluetooth nightmare, and somehow I suspect aosp isn't going to be better because I've never had a phone run aosp without Bluetooth issues, and I've tried 9 phones.
Hey guys, this is a new phone to me (was rocking a release date Note 3 until last week), and unfamiliar with this forum specifically. (Not sure how I like sticking all the carrier variants in one section, but given the relative obscurity of the phone, I guess it makes sense...)
This seems like as good as any place to ask fellow Sprint V20 user w/o creating a new(b) thread unnecessarily?
I'm also on the ZV9, and it's been so long since I've had an unrooted phone, I had forgotten how much of a pain in the ass it is. True adblocking alone is driving my need for root here.
Is my phone rootable with this version of software? Is the Dirty Santa the way to go? Thanks in advance!

Ugh. Thanks for the response.
The phone is brilliant (after rocking the same phone for over 4 years, even last years phone feels like magic), but this might end up being a deal breaker for me.
Do you know off the top of your head what carrier models are still rootable?
My MNVO carrier (Ting) has other options of carrier models I can use, but T-Mob seems to be the most compatible.
Either way, thanks again for the quick response. ((I apologize for the non-searching, noobish questions, it's been a few years since I was an XDAddict, and still feeling my way around this new forum section.))

yeah, the unpaid work of XDA devs is a thankless job. I try to make donations to devs that have made my life better.
And I suspect with the relative obscurity of this phone, there won't be much more root dev'ing happening at all.
Might have to make a new device gameplan. And I really, really, never want to go back to Samsung.

Seems like they are trying to create a kdz or tot file since sprint never released one for this phone. Also there is a thread about creating a universal lg bootloader solution. I think there is some active work in the G6 forum and they talk about how it could help other models.... Just keeping my fingers crossed because I too haven't had a nonrooted phone in about 5 years and I don't like it. nope. don't like it one bit. Interesting! Good info, I'm still digging through this forums on this device, trying to wrap my head around it.
This really is a 'best bang for the buck' phone right now, esp if one is on a budget, getting a slightly older device. (I was limited to 300 or less by the wife in my search for a device to replace my old Note3) Plus the removable batt, the SD card use, a jack, a great cam...
I don't even use root that extensively (not a flashaholic anymore), but for the 2 or 3 reasons I do, it's important.

Yup. That's the NUMBER ONE reason for me. True adblocking.
Been doing my normal browsing for the last week on this unrooted device, and (long stream of explitives here) the amount ads that I had forgotten about are stunning.

i come from an iphone background. ever since the iphone came out ive been jailbreaking, it was all pretty straight forward for me and easy. so im not a complete computer illiterate. i think theres something im not understanding with the names of the guides.
i just want to make sure its easy to flash the rom to work in australia and root the phone before i buy it.
do i even need to flash it or does it come ready to use in english??
also do any future updates etc affect the flash and i have to redo it?
i hate asking the newbie questions but i really couldnt find the answer!
thanks in advance

I got my phone from Kogan and works fine in Australia. It is the A60003 version with OOS. i know there is another version A6000 Which has a few less radio bands that I'm pretty sure only USA uses. Also there is a Chinese version with hydrogen OS. Root is easy just follow the guides of flashing twrp and magisk. Unless your thinking of getting the Chinese version that come with hydrogen OS your good to go. Future updates have to reflash twrp and magisk but it's easy to do.
I know a few people in AUS that have the OnePlus 6 from the US website and its the same A6003 version. Where are you thinking of buying the phone?

im thinking of buying this one from catch of the day... (edit: cant post links)
if you go to catch of the day you will see a oneplus 6 phone 256gb for $916.90
its 256gb, same price as the 128gb for some reason. but it doesnt mention anything about international flashing like the 128gb does. so im assuming that im getting a stock chinese phone.

Looks like the A6000. Just make sure it has all the band's Australia uses. Pretty sure they still come out with OOS which is the international ROM. I see what your saying, some say A6000 and some say I ternational spec. Maybe send them an email? Just make sure you look into it before buying.

Yeah I'll email them now. But the reason I came here is to see if it isn't an international spec, how can I flash it myself? Lol. I'll still email and ask first
Plot twist - started reading that the 6T is coming out at the end of the year. Might be worth waiting for

From what I have read yes you can flash from hydrogen OS to oxygen OS but the phones on that website all have Oxygen so there's no need to flash anything.

thats something i needed to know. so the name of the OS i want is Oxygen. easier to search now.
theyre much cheaper on ebay. might save up and buy one there instead of a payment plan. hopefully a 10% discount coupon pops up soon.
thanks for the help. ill look up more on rooting when i get the phone.
anything else i should know about the phone? are there a lot of compatible 3rd party apps?

You also want to check what radio band's the phone has. I'm not sure if the hardware is different between the phones. Not really sure what you mean by 3rd party apps? You can download any app with android.

I meant rooted apps. Do they have the same compatibility as pixel phones or do I need to download them specifically for oneplus

Unless the software is specifically designed for a particular device, like a ROM or kernel, rooted apps will work on the OnePlus 6. That covers just about anything you'd likely want to use. So apps you'd find on the Play Store, along with the non-phone specific ones on XDA with root required features or that require root will be as fine on the rooted OP6 as they would be on a Pixel, Nexus, or whatever other rooted device.
