SM-G920I stuck in boot loop, only boots into Download Mode - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Long story short, phone got water damage, left in rice for month, tried to boot and it shows Samsung logo and reboots.
Tried several things which I'll list below, never got anywhere and I'd throw the phone back in a drawer and then a few months later I'd take it out and give it another go
Already have replacement but was looking to hopefully get family photos off it (yes I backup everything now)
So i've tried the following different Odin versions:
3.09, 3.10.6 + 3.12.3
I've downloaded my firmware version G920IDVU3FQF5_G920IVNZ3FQF1_VNZ from SamMobile webite and flashed with that.
Still same issue.
After flashing firmware I have also tried the following different versions of TWRP:
twrp-2.8.6.0-zeroflte.img
twrp-2.8.6.1-zeroflte.img
twrp-2.8.6.2-zeroflte.img
twrp-3.1.1-0-zeroflte.img
Still same issue although I do get the red text "recovery is not seandroid enforcing" along side Samsung Logo but reboots as always.
If only I could get into Recovery I could then mount SD and hopefully get access to photos.
Also tried using ADB to push and pull but no go :silly:
Am I missing something stupid?
I do have the pit file for my model but I'm under the impression it re-partitions everything and I'm guessing that would lose all data so I haven't tried that.
Also tried Samsung Smart Switch but it doesn't find the phone as I can only get it in Download Mode.
Any help would be appreciated :good:

HERE you got all. Try latest stock firmware which you get via SamFirm. But BTW I don't wish good future for that phone after swimming in water

Used Odin v3.12.7 and flashed latest firmware > CF-Auto-Root > latest TWRP
No difference....still only boots to download mode.

Try to hold Volume - + Home + Power for 30 sec and when phone restart (when you see Samsung logo) directly switch from Volume - to Volume + but hold also another two buttons, you should get recovery menu.

Still no recovery, the phone doesn't hold a charge anymore so it could be a motherboard issue too.
Doesn't turn on at all if not plugged into charger or PC. As soon as I plug it in it shows Android logo and reboots instantly.
Holding Volume Up + Power + Home does nothing, phone just keeps rebooting.
Only when I hold Volume Down + Power + Home does it show the warning screen and I can then choose Volume Up to Continue or Down to Cancel and reboot.
Think I've reached the limit with this phone

You holded phone in rice for a month etc, but while phone were in water battery was still connected to mobo, and that could makes shocks on mobo and now something can be just burned. And every battery after contact with water will don't hold charge as should

1. At the downloading screen, plug your phone into your computer
2. Run Odin (I used Odin3 v3.09)
3. Uncheck auto reboot and F. Reset Time
4. Select PIT and load a .pit file ( Search forum for right PIT file)
5. Click Start
It will fail and your Message box will look like this

6. Now uplug your phone from the computer and reboot.
The only explanation I can come up with is that the partition file info gets corrupted or lost and doing this either rewrites the partition info file or tells the system where to look for it. I could be wrong but it is the only thing that works for me.
Wish you luck! Peter :fingers-crossed:
This should be a sticky, thanks my tablet is working again. Thank you Tanker32

Can't root OG1 - help

My Galaxy S5 (Sprint) updated to G900PVPU3BOG1 "OG1" firmware.
SInce then I can not root the phone with CF-Auto_root as usual. I tried TWRP (my fav), Clockworkmod, & philz touch. All give me a FAIL in ODIN.
I tried ODIN 3.10 and 3.09.
I also tried to flash custom ROMs with ODIN with similar FAIL in ODIN.
Now, I've flashed and rooted my S3 and S5 a number of times of different PCs without issues but nothing seems to work since I got OG1.
Is this a security issue with OG1? Am I missing something? I've exhausted all options I know of.

I am also having this same issue when trying to use CF autoroot and if I try to flash any custom recovery.
I have OG1 on my S5 and never had a problem with getting root. I used Odin3_v3.10.7 and used CF-Auto-Root-kltespr-kltespr-smg900p.tar.md5. TWRP works well but I used Philz. Try this order when rooting. Its seems to me its always something small that your missing.
Put your phone in download mode
activate odin and then plug in your phone to the usb.
click on the AP tab load the md file from cf auto root
make sure your comm port shows up and is blue, if all is right
click the start button and in 9 seconds you should be rooted and then follow up with twrp or Philz and you should be all set...

So after many many attepts and failures I saw a post that said that the problem that I was running into was that I had reactivation lock on. I shut off reactivation lock and my phone rooted and allowed me to install a custom recovery without any issue. Hopefully this helps others who are having this same problem

Just make sure that it is unchecked. Then you can flash a recovery with ODIN and then supersu if you want rooted stock.

Go here, https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=15340
Download either the first one on the page the KTsoonez TWRP or philz_touch_6.57.8-klte.tar. Turn off phone and reboot to download mode (power + home + vol down) . Open ODIN on the computer when the phone is in download mode. Connect phone to computer. ODIN should recognize it. Put recovery in PA slot and check auto reboot. Hit start and the recovery should flash in a few seconds. After it is finished, unplug phone and pull battery. turn on phone normally and let it boot. Download this file https://download.chainfire.eu/696/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip and copy to phone SD. Turn off phone. Turn on phone to recovery power+vol up+home and Install Zip and select this file you just downloaded. Reboot. You are rooted.
So I'm trying to root my roommates S5 G900P/OG1 with Odin 3.10.7 and I cant disable the reactivation lock on it. It will let me put in his password then it goes back to the security page with the lock still on. Ive tried the factory reset workaround to no avail. Ive searched and searched. Does anyone have any ideas?

SM-N915A , unable to boot, Odin failed, now bricked.

Hi All,
I was using the SM-N915A as normal...then i left it idle for a while and came back saw it kept resetting itself. I tried clear cache partition already didnt' work. It keeps looping on startup after the samsung logo. It got worst as time went on, it wont even load into recovery anymore, it just loads with the android icon saying it's updating then freezes and restarts....I read that I can manual recover using Odin. I used odin and a stock rom to fix it, but the rom failed now i am bricked. Please help.

Thanks, I managed to use the pit file and it got pass the brick page.
However, now the system goes into the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge loading screen and just stays there for a very long time and then restarts itself again....I pulled the battery out to manual shutdown (power button will not shut it down) and tried to go into recovery mode, it says loading recovery, but ends up restarting back to the Samsung loading screen indefinitely again. I would assume that's because the rom is dead at this point, and I would need to go to dl mode and flash a new stock rom back in ? What is my next step ?

Hey guys, i have 1:1 the same problem with my n915fy. It dont boot and when i try to get in recovery it just stuck on booting recovery.
Have anyone the files for me too? I bought the phone Bricked.
Edit: Things I already tried:
Installed stock 5.1.1 per odin
Installed 5.1.1 per odin while checked the mark Nand earse all
Installed 4.4.4 per odin
Installed CWM per odin
Still stuck on Samsung Galaxy booting logo, when i try to go in Recovery menu its calls: " Recover booting" but just restart after one minute.
Hope someone can help me...
Btw where can i get pitfiles and would it help when i patch one?

Thanks, I managed to use the pit file and it got pass the brick page.
However, now the system goes into the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge loading screen and just stays there for a very long time and then restarts itself again....I pulled the battery out to manual shutdown (power button will not shut it down) and tried to go into recovery mode, it says loading recovery, but ends up restarting back to the Samsung loading screen indefinitely again. I would assume that's because the rom is dead at this point, and I would need to go to dl mode and flash a new stock rom back in ? What is my next step ?

You know what, try to clean power button. It may sticks. Pull battery and put small drop of rubbing alcohol. Then press couple times ( with out battery). Let dry for 10 min( you may use hair dryer on low power) . Put battery back and let us know.

mmc: mmc_read fail
ERASING USERDATA PARTITION
My SM-N915A went full dead on incomplete upgrade. Tried everything possible no lights, no vibration, no nothing: fill dear brick.
Was told its emmc corrupt.
Kindly help
can't you use samsung kies?
Hi to all. I was trying to recover some files with DrFone when it tried to root my phone. The rooting process failed and the phone bricked. If I try to power it on, it appears the writing "firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again"
Obviously kies can't connect to the phone.
If I press pwr+vol_dn+home and then select "volume up" the phone goes in download mode but doesn't accept the reset of drfone, the download process freeze at half...
What can I do?
Thanks in advance!
try flashing only pitt file
is there anyone that does this upload , reload repair for others. are is there instructions to follow somewhere?

OK i've done this about 5 times. i dont have a problem with w.e version of odin or twrp i use(or so it seems). every attempt is successful. I literally, for the life of me, can not boot into twrp recovery to install supersu. i've watched all the videos and after twrp is flashed the phone booths directly into twrp. my phone reboots normally and i have to turn it off and turn it back on holding volume + up, which ig boots into the regular boot up? it tries to install something, fails, and then goes to the i guess regular boot up. People have even suggested holding volume+up after twrp is flashed but the phone reboots normally anyway. I dont know what im doing wrong I cant get it to boot into twrp. please help
Hold the home button + volume up as soon as you see Removed!!

Soon as u see pass is how i do it,vol down, home, and power.hold till goes black.then slide vol to up position while u hold the other buttons. Hold till u see twrp booting.DO NOT use vol up first and whatever buttons he said it is NOT correct actually at all.,sorry to the dude who said to do that i mean no disrespect but u are incorrect. Also, make sure u format data, then flash root zip then encryption breaker then reboot if not u will be screwed and not be able to make nandroids. I have posted this on both j7 twrps numerous times. Good luck and sometimes it takes a couple times.
Make sure you have just the right version of TWRP man. I've had this happen the first time. Some versions are for the other J7 models. Get one from the j700t development thread and flash it again. Make sure as soon as you flash TWRP and Odin reboots the device, pull out the battery as soon as you see the Samsung splash screen. This is to prevent stock from overwriting the recovery. Finally, press and hold power up, home and power until it finally boots into TWRP. Message me if this doesn't work
Both versions work on our phone
J700t
Put this file in Odin and it should work for you.
I used it for both of my j700t. download.chainfire.eu/1138/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-j7eltetmo-j7eltetmo-smj700t.zip
You will need to copy and paste this to Google I can't post links.
Also those twrp files don't work on some of these j7 devices for reasons unknown to me.

Does it say anything like "Waiting for command" or anything? Typically the recovery is a red triangle and exclamation mark coming out of a android's chest. On some devices you have to give it a command to get the menu to pop up. It is usually hold vol+ and then tap power or hold power and tap vol+... can't remember it's been awhile.
It's an older device so finding all the necessary files should be easy...my other guess is that maybe at some point someone tried to flash a recovery on it but it didn't work. You should be able to download stock firmware from www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ and flash with Odin to get the original recovery back or try searching for a CWM or TWRP for it and flash it.

It just shows the 'Samsung Galaxy...' Logo and the red Exclamation mark at the top left corner.
I tried the vol+ , on/off button, doesn't work
It started to happen after I installed some aplication, I'm not sure if it because of that because it didn't happen imidiatly after that
What am I supposed to do with those files?
Thanks

You'll have to install Samsung Universal USB drivers on your computer. Then also download Odin and the correct firmware for your device.
Then power off the phone and hold vol-, home, and power. It should pop up and say caution installing a custom OS can be dangerous... Next press vol+ to enter Odin Mode/Download Mode. Hook the phone to he pc and open Odin. It should show a blue block with a com number if it recognizes the phone. If not then reinstall drivers. Next load the firmware into the AP slot of Odin and hit start. If everything goes according to plan, you'll be back to stock.

You do have to have an account to download and the premium is just to download at a faster speed. It is the official Samsung site for firmwares. You can trust it.

Try to download Kies or SmartSwitch and see if they can recover it. They are both official samsung programs, kies is for older devices and SS is for newer devices.
One of the two should recognize the phone when in download mode. Also, to exit download mode you can just hold vol+ and power or about 8 seconds.
