Is there a version of Flashtool that works with XZP yet - Sony Xperia XZ Premium Questions & Answers

Hi
I've just bought a Pre-owned XZP but it's still branded with 3 UK software, after reading around the web and XDA it's not clear whether there's a stock flash tool out yet that works with XZP file system.
I've read that theres a Newflasher tool, but from what I've read, it doesn't look as if it's very safe.
Any advice please, Thanks

Sadly not, we only have that one tool.
I'm personally using an old version that works perfect, I refuse to use any new versions (some drama dev caused).

Which version of the Tool are you using?. .. I assume I need the SONY adb drivers from a flashtool folder and the SONY XZP Companion driver

Sent a PM.

guys i used the new flasher on mine worked like a charm

[Q] Can't find updates for android 4.4.4

Hello. My xperia m2 says that there are no updates and the phone is up to date but it's with android 4.4.2. Theres 1 secound delay in the sound when I play games or use downloaded apps like youtube also the audio doesn't sound very good. To fix that I need to update the android version but I cant. I connected the phone to my computer and updated it with sony PC companion but the version is still 4.4.2. What should I do? I don't want to use flashtools or anything. I think it's the phone's fault for that and I should give it back to the place where I bought it so they can fix that. The phone is brand new and they already changed my camera because it wasn't working. So what should I do?
I suppose it has to do with the Country of your phone and/or if it is branded. IF after using PC Companion it's still with 4.4.2 I'm afraid your best (and only) option is to use Flashtool. Not sure how it works if it is branded though, you may need to to something to be able to de-brand it.
Well, actually try first to check if 4.4.4 is available in this way:
- Dial *#*#7378423#*#* (*#*#service#*#*)
- Check the number in Service Info/SW Info/Customization version. You just need the xxxx-yyyy part
- Downdload and install Flashtool (it's small. You just need it for checking)
- Run Flashtool
- Go to Devices/Check Updates
- Select your phone double clicking on the id xxxx-yyyy you have got before.
- If the version is 18.3.C (like the one for 3 UK) there is no 4.4.4. the latest ROM is 4.4.2. It must be 18.3.1.C for 4.4.4
My is branded from T-mobile, and i flashed CE ftf to debrande, everything is good except i don't have extra apps that T-mobile puts in. As i know your safe flashing ftf cos it's official Sony's software, just using Flashtool instead of PC Companion and you won't lose warranty, as long as you don't unlock bootloader.
Good Luck.

Obviously on the computer. It's needed to flash the phones from it. Just google it, you find it immediately. Then if you decide to flash a generic 4.4.4 FTF just search around. There are dozens of guides in the Internet.
Alright thanks for your support guys

XPERIA Z3v Unrooting Issues

So I recently rooted my XPERIA Z3v device, and I have decided to unroot it (don't bother trying to convince me to keep the root, I am far beyond your rhetorical questions) and I rooted with the mobile version of kingoapp.com root. When I attempt to unroot my device, neither the computer software nor the app itself are unable to unroot the device. Honestly, I regret ever rooting, and being the rookie I am, I just want to unroot my device so I can go about normal life.
Can someone please help me? I am on the edge of **** right now.

Can you provide links for FTF and such? Sorry for the pestering, it's late at night and I just want to go to bed.
PC Companion refuses to acknowledge that the Z3v exists, Sony lacks support for it.
http://www.flashtool.net/index.php
You can download the FTF using flashtool as well.
I am pretty sure PCCompanion provides support for the Z3v
Trust me, the XPERIA Z3v lacks any support from Sony. It is basically the basterd child of the Sony smartphone division. Pc Companion won't work for this, I have tried many times.
As for the FTF, I don't see any D6708 model firmwares there, is my feeble newbie mind missing something?
On another note again, I will be willing to keep the root access, it's just that I attempt to replace the Kinguser SU app, and superSU can't seem to update it's binary to do so. Any help there?

what firmware version are you looking for? LL or LP
Original KK firmware here: http://firmwaremobile.com/index.php/xperiadownload/file/262-z3-v
I can't find the LP leaked firmware. I believe you can download it using xperifirm and create the ftf using the flash tool.
I am looking for firmware 23.0.E.1.44. I found a supposed compatible firmware on Sony's website, but the boot unlocking and flashing seems to be a bit out of my range when it comes to understanding. (Kitkat 4.4.4)

can't unlock the bootloader on the z3v so don't worry about that. You'll have to use the flashtool to flash the KK firmware I linked above then take the OTA to .44

D6653 won't allow update to 6.0.1

Im in japan. my phone doesn't show ota for marshmallow, only for Sony bloatware. and pc companion on Mac says yes there is an update available... But then after about ten seconds the dialog box is replaced saying that I am running latest version available (though i have 5).
Same results when I tried VPN.
My phone is unlocked as originally purchased. I have a data sim.
Does it refuse because I have only 500mb on internal? There is no error message-it just changes its mind.
Any ideas? Just wait?

There is actually a mac version of Flashtool, but maybe not xpirifirm so you might have to find a pre-made FTF.
I guess you don't have root?
Update manually with Flashtool? Lots of guides available. Might not even have to make your own FTF file, but I recommend doing so if you can as then you know what is in it.
Essentially this is the same as using Sony software to do it, but you have more manual options. Download the files with xpirifirm, decrypt them with flashtool (not as complicated as it sounds), then it will make an ftf file for you which is the bit that contains all the system for the phone / update, then follow instructions to flash it onto the phone.
I'll look for a decent guide link.
My top tip is to make sure the TA partition stuff is excluded when you select what components to add to the ftf file to be safe, but flashtool should exclude this by default. And to make sure you download the software for your exact device so double check it when you choose
It really isn't as overwhelming as it may seem when you first look at it.
How to make the ftf: http://www.xperiablog.net/2014/08/1...re-files-using-xperifirm-and-flashtool-guide/
How to flash it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2697277
(Just ignore the parts telling you to download anything in the flashing guide as you got it from the "how to make" and obviously just replace that phone and firmware with your own)
Thanks. I have rooted and flashed a couple other phones but not Sony. I guess I would do that if it came down to it, but it shouldn't be necessary. With the z3 don't see the payoff for the risk. I can live with the bloatware.
More to the point this update should just work! Why isn't it?
If I use PC companion doesn't that get the update straight from Sony regardless of carrier? (I have no carrier, just a 3 month data sim)

If I helped hit thanks
Something along the way is causing the problem. Tried reinstalling PC companion?
I say manual flash because that eliminates the variable that it's your phone causing the problem and also gets you updated as you wanted soooooo two birds with one stone
If you can't so it by PC I hope the phone eventually sorts itself out
Did you use xperia companion? If you used that, then there might be no update available yet for your phone, because xperia companion have a bug that shows an update is available, but there really is no update available.
Yes I'm using xperia companion. I guess I'm experiencing that bug you mention.
How can I establish if an update is available when I have no carrier? If I have no carrier then is it still dependant on the country I'm in? I know others have received the update for d6653 in other countries.

Anyway to Flash stock original firmware to my XZ premium prototype?

i have XZ premium prototype one with prototype firmware. I found stock original firmware in Xperifirm so i starting to work on it. after downloaded and create ftf (cant put the right name device for it as it shouldnt support yet for flashtools so i just choose XZ and it created with no issues). but when i start flashing it didnt go, i just would like to know do i need to install anything other than flashtools and device drivers? do i need adb or android sdk inorder to flash it? thanks a lot
You would have to wait for flashtool to support the XZ Premium and then it might not work and brick your device because the hardware might be different slightly from the prototype to the retail model.

Way back in the day when I had a prototype X10i it would only work on the prototype rom, when I flashed android 2.3 or something like that the touchscreen wouldn't work until I flashed back a stock 1.6 rom. It lasted 4 days before the screen went black out of nowhere bricked.
So yeah it's a risk going to another rom other than the prototype one in my experience.
What is the product CDA on your prototype rom? If it is storefront/commercial_journalist then i dont see a issue flashing a other region firmware on it.
https://xpericheck.com/device/G8141
Anyone managed to successfully flash stock firmware on prototype unit yet?
Yes I had prototype Xperia XA (F3111) and I successfully flashed both stock marshmallow and stock nougat onto it without any issues. Give it a try. I don't see why it shouldn't work for the XZP.

Flashing Xperia XZP?

Hi, i've sony xperia xz premium and i want to flash a generic italian firmware. It's my first time in flashing a sony device and i searched a lot in internet, but i found nothing. I'm on locked bootloader, any help please?
You need flashtool to flash Sony devices. www.flashtool.net
But, it is not yet compatible with XZP.
There is another tool but no one know the safety of it so better wait.
Btw, you don't need to unlock the bootloader to flash official roms from other regions.

thank you man. I was reading about a file which is needed to use XZP with flashtool.
And, What about Xperia companion, SEUS and Emma? Are them good to de-brand?
Don't know those 2 other tools.
Personnaly I used on old version of that unsafe tool found on another thread here to unbrand, then to sleep well I did a software recovery using official Xperia companion.
Maybe it is total useless but who knows

EDIT: for those who were lookin' for a solution, i used this unsafe tool: i just downloaded custom it firmware from xperiafirm, i pasted all the files (except all .ta files) in the same directory of the tool and i executed it. Now i'm restoring with xperia companion. All good! Thanks

Would there be any advantage with using a generic firmware for the same region, versus the carrier specific one?
So, does unlocking the bootloader and rooting cause you to stop getting OTA updates like on most phones?

I feel your pain. You need newflasher and to follow the tutorial here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72958788&postcount=16
- except make sure you put all the *.sin files in the newflasher directory and flash your phone.. Exclude everything else
The newflasher version that worked for me can be found here

You don't have carrier bloatwares, but most of all, usually custom fw are released sooner because they don't need carriers approvals.

Don't remember about the bootloader but rooting it most probably make it fail to update.
Can't confirm, I usually flash new firm when they are released and don't wait for OTA stuff.
But the most annoying with Xperia phones since Z series, they have a "TA" partition, that contains DRM keys. They are used to unlock features like Bravia engine, special sound processing, ... And it seems also some camera features on XZP.
And when you unlock the bootloader, it wipes this partition and you lose your keys forever.
On Z5 there were two solution for this problem:
- Wait for a security breach that allow rooting Android, and gives you the hability to backup this partition. Then you can restore it after unlocked bootloader.
- Some people modded kernels to fake the presence of DRM keys.
In my opinion, for bootloader unlocking, wait that XZ1 are released (since they probably will have same specs as XZP) and more people getting involved to see what happens. Losing keys = losing Sony specific features you paid for.
By doing this, u won't lose any DRM key: obviously u need to remove all *.ta files (same from boot directory) in which those keys are contained.
I successfully flashed generic firmware over customized carrier firmware and in support app i got the same warranty message. No unlock no drm lost
@Jake_09 yes, carriers are often slowers in releasing firmware (i'm speaking about TIM carrier for Italy), in fact the rom which i found when i bought my phone was updated at april security patches. Now i got the last no brand update. I did the same as @ninjy with xperia companion after newflasher. Hope it helps!
Unlocking bootloader wipe TA partition, not flashing roms

Heh, thanks for spreading my links :3.
Why we can't use flashtool? Maybe an old flashtool version can be used? I do not trust newflasher since virustotal reports it as a malware https://www.virustotal.com/sr/file/...57fcac8e88f48e8ab00a1cc61c9081d8f47/analysis/

That looks like a false positive since it's only 2-3 different AVs (at most) that are detecting it.
I'm going to flash to an unbranded/generic FW tonight and see how it goes!

This doesnt mess with the bootloader or do anything to kill the DRM keys for the bravia engines?

Cheers for this. I was worries about losing the features of the sony if I flashed a generic rom over the carrier specific one I have.
Not sure if this will do anything to improve the compatability between my car and the phone via bluetooth but worth a try.

This definitely didn't touch DRM at all. Just make sure you definitely don't use any of the *.TA files at all, even the one in the BOOT folder. I can still adjust my screen colour settings and they definitely work, sound settings, etc. Works great
Whats this talk about excluding .ta files? I just drop newflasher in fw folder and flash, works like a charm everytime.
What benefit do you get for excluding .ta?
