Maps Extreme Lag - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

Hey
Running public release version of O on my Pixel with a clean install and no root.
Maps has been lagging insanely since day one and the device heats up more than normal when running maps.
Tried everything and I'm at my wits' end as far as this goes. Anyone experiencing the same? Any solution?
Thanks!

The only thing I've noticed with maps is that it often fails to load the map until you start zooming in or out. Seems a little buggy to me given it's one of the most widely used apps

I use maps every single day several times and I've had no issue. I'm on the final O. Have you updated Maps to the latest version? Are you signed up for the Maps beta in the Play Store and forgot?

I use maps everyday also, I use the beta since day one, no problems here, now you can change the voice from US to UK

Google Maps 4.0.0 + Google buzz?

I just saw a youtube clip about someone who installed this on his droid;
Anybody tried it on the N1?
Where did you get it from?
Should be an update to your Maps app available in the Market, it didn't install for me, said package wasn't signed correctly, I was using a rom with known issues with Google Services though so I'm reflashing right now to try again. You can go to buzz.google.com in your browser to use their web app. Has a pretty clean interface.
installed and works fine on a non rooted nexus.
Got it workin on mine now too, pretty sweet.
I just installed it on my rooted nexus one here in canada and found several other people testing it out. Seems to work fine just not sure how often I will bother to load it up.
Installed on Cyanogen Beta 4 with my theme, and works perfect. Installed from market
Downloading... Installing.... WORKS.
Buzz works great through Maps, but has anyone got it working properly from the Browser via buzz.google.com? When I try to post a buzz through maps, it goes right through. But through browser, I just get the little grey "processing" spiral.
This Maps 4.0 have Navigation out of USA? Thanks
Weird... I can't find google maps on the market at all - no update or anything...
Do they roll it out gradually to people?
Or maybe it's because I installed the 2.1-patch1 myself? (didn't wait for the official notification)
My phone is stock non rooted and not unlocked.
testing.... no
Got the update last night in the android market, this is pretty cool.
Google maps is not in the market of free applications. Although free, you need to have access to the paid apps market.
How I can put Maps 4 in rooted Nexus?

I want it too, please, I want maps 4.0 with navigator in Spain, I have it rooted.

should be in the market. look for google maps and see which version you have installed. should be 4.0 .. if so do menu layers and buzz .. and thats it... start buzzing if you wish.
I've just restored apps after a wipe and my Google Maps is showing as 3.4. I go to market and it's not offering me an update. What can I do?

[Q] Play Store opens randomly to a specific app

Hi,
I recently migrated to Nexus devices. I have a Nexus 5. Recently, while I am working with my phone, the play store suddenly opens to a random (usually Korean) app. I say Korean because the dev's website ends with'.kr' and the language looks like one of the East Asian languages (I am sorry but I cannot differentiate them very well).
I notice this usually happens when I am back to my home screen.
I suspected Ads and I have downloaded Ad Away and made sure I am running the most recent updates. I even installed Ad Network Detector by Lookout and even uninstalled some apps I suspected. But it still pops up.
This issue happens also on my Nexus 7 2013 (running rooted stock 4.4 and stock kernel - Dalvik runtime). Now there is an overlap of apps but they are not exactly the same.
Please note that I am running rooted stock 4.4 with custom kernel on my Nexus 5 (ART runtime). I have not updated play store manually. Everything is as is from Google. And the play store version is 4.4.22.
One last thing, yesterday, I noticed the same type of "ads" on my wife's galaxy s2 running Jelly Bam v10. There is very little overlap in terms of apps.
This is a very annoying form of ads. Anyone experienced this? And if so, any workarounds? I am trying to avoid a factory reset if possible.
I appreciate your help.

I'm glad that I found this as the same thing has been happening on my N5.
Cataclysm, Faux and 'next' browser. Although I think it still happened in chrome. It seems to happen when I'm using a browser, the play store launches by itself to some random app.
I'd hate to think this is Google doing this to sell more crap....
it sounds like you both have a spam app installed...try Addons Detector in play store, or uninstall anything that is not absolutely reputable, and read reviews about apps

It seems to have stopped since uninstalling the latest version of 'next' browser (beta 1.3).
I noticed that the issue would almost always arise when browsing, and since going back to my previous browser if choice (Boat) it hasn't happened since.
A real shame if it's indeed the browser, it had great promise and I was going to use it as my daily... But not if they are injecting crap like this into it.
Neither lookout adwatch nor airpush detectors picked it up, so it must be stealth.
I've emailed the devs asking if they have something like this in their browser, although I'm pretty convinced since it hasn't happened once since removing it.
Update:
It's not the browser, nor the one or two games I installed.
Tried several different ad and air push detector apps but can't find the culprit.
This is truly annoying, especially as I have very few apps installed beyond the stock Google ones.
Any help appreciated.

Play Store downloads are slow on L Final LRX21O!

So I noticed this on the L dev previews and now the official LRX21O that play store would download quite slowly compared to 4.4.4. On pre-L android versions I would easily download 3-4+ MB's/sec this was super nice and would just chomp through large apps. Now on L it seems to be limited to 0.5MB to 1MB/sec which AINT BAD but isnt what it can be. I have tried both Wifi and LTE (LTE can pull down 70Mbps!)
IMO I think Google set download speed limits globally on all L releases to prevent excessive server load.
Can anyone else confirm the same?? If so maybe a developer can modify the play store APK?
Bump
Can't say I looked in detail as my apps came down as quickly as I would have expected them to.
Downloads have been going really really slowly for me yesterday and today, from the play store only.
Currently downloading Far Cry 4 Arena Master, which is 47MB, and it says it will take another 3 hours!
Mine worked very fast after updating thru the ota.

[PX5] Google maps hangs nearly unusable different roms

Me and several friends of the German PX5 community have severe problems with google maps on PX5 units.
It often hangs especially after input destination on route calculation or after that starting moving map, but also after some time of moving map up.
I have the issue with the latest hot audio rom as with Malaysk both using the same kernel from rocky 28-AUG, others told having the issue for some time already.
I'm testing the unit for 4 weeks now and first haven't experienced the issue so much, but after others told I tested google maps more intensively and it is reproducible with increasing intensity. You can trigger it easily doing a voice input to some city some 100 miles away "OK Google - route to ....". I usually need only few tries then.
Or you can download version 4.46.2.
9.46.2 is the right version

Off what? GMaps? Download and install as apk and never update?

Same issue here, just when you start to navigate it hangs. Maybe when maps starts its route announcement, never hear that. Happens in all roms that I have tried. Just installed Malaysk V5, tried V4, stock and rooted HA. Tried all the forum tips and tricks like turn off navigation monitoring, be persistent, no offline maps.
Yes, remove maps and install the 9.46.2 apk and don't update it until the issue is fixed. Lots of links to it on the forum to it or can be found on the web. I also tried 9.50.2 and it worked about 95% of the time. I heard someone trying a beta 9.61.0 said it worked OK. Let's hope it does and it is released soon.
Until then it would be nice if someone with the know how could trouble shoot this and get to the root of the issue.
Same thing here.. MX head unit. the only version that works without issues is 9.46.2.
Is this issue in PX3 units as well or they are able to run the latest version without issues?? Anyone knows?

Issue is that if you use AndroidAuto, it will update the Maps application and you are back where you started.
In titanium backup, you can turn off the auto update per app.

Is that different from turning it off in the play store?
No but in play store you can only do this for all apps. In titanium you can do this for every app separately.

Play store will do it separately. When in my apps, to to the store on the app you want to disable and click the menu upper right and uncheck auto update.

Right, but AndroidAuto will ask you to update Maps, and if you say no, it will exit. Unless you're saying the titanium backup will override this behaviour?
So anyone knows if google maps new versions work ok on PX3 head units?
I don't but no big deal to try.
If not just delete and install older apk, login all your data is in google cloud.
Only offline maps take time and data to download.

I do not have a PX3 unit ( I have a PX5), so I am asking if anyone with PX3 unit have the same issues with google maps.
I recommend keeping 9.42 apk on the device in case it is accidentally updated in the field and rollback needed.
I had to clear data memory of Google App, Services and Playstore due to several crashes of google - indicating more issues then just google maps.
After that autoupdate was enabled again and done, so be careful if you have to do this some day, disable wifi or whatvever to prevent update.
It is not a problem to install the older apk over the newer, but offline maps are gone then and so it is better to deinstall and reinstall anyway to prevent problems. Selecting the offline map ranges is somehow buggy (random shifts) and download takes lot of time and data some GB.
Not that this is a solution, but I've switched to using Waze.
Doesn't crash.
Doesn't work with Android Auto either though.
Can anyone provide the correct link to the working Google maps? There are multiple variations.
Is it this one?

It works perfectly fine for me?
Maybe describing the issues in detail would help get the answer you need... an older version might work better.
Try uninstalling/reinstalling. Gmaps has been a mess for years now... the Swiss Army knife of maps that does everything, and nothing well.
Given time Google will perfect, then destroy their apps, even their OS.
Gmail reached its zenith 11 years ago.
Gmaps over 7 years ago.
Android, 2 years ago.
Picasso, Yeah... never mind
Use rooted google maps
My solution was I downgraded the Google maps app and it's working good now thank you for the advice guys very much appreciated

I always use the loaded factory versions of both Gmail and Gmaps. The Playstore updates screw them up. It's been like that for years...
Uninstall the one included with the phone or clear data for it (but don't disable it). Update to the newest one from Google Play, but also make sure Google Services is updated.
The preloaded versions are usually outdated and may have the wrong info (if you actually use it), but newer versions rely on the backend updates. It's been that way since Google Services became the dumping ground to support third-party apps.
