Play Store downloads are slow on L Final LRX21O! - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I noticed this on the L dev previews and now the official LRX21O that play store would download quite slowly compared to 4.4.4. On pre-L android versions I would easily download 3-4+ MB's/sec this was super nice and would just chomp through large apps. Now on L it seems to be limited to 0.5MB to 1MB/sec which AINT BAD but isnt what it can be. I have tried both Wifi and LTE (LTE can pull down 70Mbps!)
IMO I think Google set download speed limits globally on all L releases to prevent excessive server load.
Can anyone else confirm the same?? If so maybe a developer can modify the play store APK?

Bump

Can't say I looked in detail as my apps came down as quickly as I would have expected them to.

Downloads have been going really really slowly for me yesterday and today, from the play store only.
Currently downloading Far Cry 4 Arena Master, which is 47MB, and it says it will take another 3 hours!

Mine worked very fast after updating thru the ota.

the point is to keep everything together like music and books instead of having Google Music seperately and Google E-Books seperately. It's for ease of use. But i have to say the name just doesn't work. I'm sure i'll get used to it.
To OP: I know it updates automatically, but a link may be helpful for some:
http://www.mediafire.com/?72w5189rc2wpa0c
it is 5 times faster than the older version for me it is perfect )
Yes that's true! The speed of Google Play is impressive comparing the old Market's speed! And only that is enough for me to be happy with this update!
The only good thing about switching to Play thing is that I can now see viz and pics in market, as they used another pool of IPs, which has not yet been blocked in my "democratic" country. ^^
i have a question, i recently reinstalled my ROM and i have the old market again
i was wondering hot to get it back? it updates automatically or manual?

Google Play download slow

Hey,
today I experienced a problem with my note (wifi only).
When i want to download an App from Play Store the download is enormous slow (like 10 kb/s).
When downloading from web pages via Browser it is like 1200 kb/s..
Also the play store loads very quickly.. only the downloads are slow as fuc*.
My Nexus (connected to same Wifi) can download from Play store with like 1200 kb/s as well...
Yesterday my note was able to get that speed also... not today..
What´s the problem and how can i resolve it??
Thanks in advance..
Try downloading a diiferent build of the play store?

Have tried.. didn´t work
It has happened to me a few times so I rebooting my tablet and it was a lot fast after the reboot.
UPDATE
Reboot does not help now so .... yes I'm seeing very slow Google app downloads and updates also.
I am also have the same issue. 4G downloads are fine, but downloads over wifi are very slow. I have also tried different routers with no change.
I have reset my modem and router and this seemed to fix the problem for a day or so, but can't see it being an issue with my modem or router since it only affects Google Play.

I've seen reports that google is having problems with it's services today ( DDoS? Hackers? ).
Some people are getting good access, others are not. YMMV.
So I would wait awhile before worrying.
Yup....im getting the same thing. But my WiFi hotspot is blazing fast still. At first I was worried it was my new Droid Razr Maxx HD.....whew!

[Q] Play Store opens randomly to a specific app

Hi,
I recently migrated to Nexus devices. I have a Nexus 5. Recently, while I am working with my phone, the play store suddenly opens to a random (usually Korean) app. I say Korean because the dev's website ends with'.kr' and the language looks like one of the East Asian languages (I am sorry but I cannot differentiate them very well).
I notice this usually happens when I am back to my home screen.
I suspected Ads and I have downloaded Ad Away and made sure I am running the most recent updates. I even installed Ad Network Detector by Lookout and even uninstalled some apps I suspected. But it still pops up.
This issue happens also on my Nexus 7 2013 (running rooted stock 4.4 and stock kernel - Dalvik runtime). Now there is an overlap of apps but they are not exactly the same.
Please note that I am running rooted stock 4.4 with custom kernel on my Nexus 5 (ART runtime). I have not updated play store manually. Everything is as is from Google. And the play store version is 4.4.22.
One last thing, yesterday, I noticed the same type of "ads" on my wife's galaxy s2 running Jelly Bam v10. There is very little overlap in terms of apps.
This is a very annoying form of ads. Anyone experienced this? And if so, any workarounds? I am trying to avoid a factory reset if possible.
I appreciate your help.

I'm glad that I found this as the same thing has been happening on my N5.
Cataclysm, Faux and 'next' browser. Although I think it still happened in chrome. It seems to happen when I'm using a browser, the play store launches by itself to some random app.
I'd hate to think this is Google doing this to sell more crap....
it sounds like you both have a spam app installed...try Addons Detector in play store, or uninstall anything that is not absolutely reputable, and read reviews about apps

It seems to have stopped since uninstalling the latest version of 'next' browser (beta 1.3).
I noticed that the issue would almost always arise when browsing, and since going back to my previous browser if choice (Boat) it hasn't happened since.
A real shame if it's indeed the browser, it had great promise and I was going to use it as my daily... But not if they are injecting crap like this into it.
Neither lookout adwatch nor airpush detectors picked it up, so it must be stealth.
I've emailed the devs asking if they have something like this in their browser, although I'm pretty convinced since it hasn't happened once since removing it.
Update:
It's not the browser, nor the one or two games I installed.
Tried several different ad and air push detector apps but can't find the culprit.
This is truly annoying, especially as I have very few apps installed beyond the stock Google ones.
Any help appreciated.

Who else thinks that soon every single system app will come to the Play Store?

So as many of you know, yesterday Google published the stock Nexus and GPe camera to the Play Store, albeit highly improved and reworked. I have a hunch that next we will get the Google Dialler and People app there, because the People app needs reworking. I believe that for the 'L' version of android (or 4.5) will focus on making the need for system updates very tiny, as only core things such as the kernel or frameworks would need patching. Thoughts?

Is it safe to use non compatible applications?

I am using non compatible application in my P-901, like BBM, Microsoft office, Google Launcher, Samsung Milk, Lab values ..etc
I have downloaded them using google , installed them and they are running smoothly. I know they are not compatible with the device and they are not in the play store. My device is not rooted.
Are they harmful to the software/hardware because they are not compatible?
I just want to check that and if they are harmful I will un-install them immediately.
Thanks...

No, that just means they may not run smoothly. You could have issues with the way they display, they might force close, or they may run fine. You never know.
If they are jot compatible how did you download them from Google? Usually they will not download 1f they are not compatible.

Nah, it won't hurt anything. On Android it's called sideloading and people do it on pretty much every device.
There may be some rare exceptions, but basically if it installs and runs from an apk, then you're good to go. It won't damage anything.
A lot of things are labeled "incompatible" on purpose for reasons other than being technically unable to run on the device. (Like for example Google and Samsung want to keep their launcher and Milk music only running on certain devices thar they benefit from so everything else is flagged as incompatible. Also it may be that devs haven't optimized for certain devices and so don't want it running on them and then get low ratings for devices they don't support.

Almost all applications either paid/free or compatible/incompatible are available outside google play, just google it and download it.
Which version of ms office are you using and where did you find the apk, link please, I'm just interested in word,

I am using version 1.1.0....
U can make a google search and you will find a lot of downloadable links...
The only ones that are truly incompatable are apps that require specific hardware features that aren't physically present in an incompatible device.
The best place I've found to get apps outside of Google play is Aptoide. Yes, there are plenty of crappy porn apps and repos full of pirated ones , but the default store, and many others have any legitimate free app you could want, in any past or present version you could want. It has adult content filtering turned on by default as well. The Aptoide app also has a play store-like update tab and auto-update feature, too. A recent update made huge improvements to the UI, which closely mimics the style of Google play. Just make sure to skim over feedback to check for issues, and avoid app versions that are higher than they should be.
They're all incompatible for one very simple reason: The developers haven't enabled the QHD resolution in Google play. It's really that simple and that stupid.
I had this same rubbish for almost a year with the TF700T, it was the only and first device with 1920x1200 at that time, and nearly évery app was incompatible.
Sideloading them always worked perfectly well, no issues.

You are right..
For example BBM is working fine in Note Pro and Note 2014 but in a bad resolution.

Oh man, that was just the tip of the iceberg with the TF700T. Mine still fights like a champ, but with the hardware specs it had for the time of its release, it should have gotten much more attention. Development was slow and scarce, and the stock firmware was riddled with issues and bugs. I typically go for whatever device has the best, newest hardware, and it stays seems like the second and third place devices get all the attention and accommodation. Going through it with the galaxy note pro 12.2 as we speak. I'm working on building a working cm 11 ROM for it in my spare time. All its had for weeks is twrp recovery. I just wish I had more time.
