I am using non compatible application in my P-901, like BBM, Microsoft office, Google Launcher, Samsung Milk, Lab values ..etc
I have downloaded them using google , installed them and they are running smoothly. I know they are not compatible with the device and they are not in the play store. My device is not rooted.
Are they harmful to the software/hardware because they are not compatible?
I just want to check that and if they are harmful I will un-install them immediately.
Thanks...

No, that just means they may not run smoothly. You could have issues with the way they display, they might force close, or they may run fine. You never know.
If they are jot compatible how did you download them from Google? Usually they will not download 1f they are not compatible.

Nah, it won't hurt anything. On Android it's called sideloading and people do it on pretty much every device.
There may be some rare exceptions, but basically if it installs and runs from an apk, then you're good to go. It won't damage anything.
A lot of things are labeled "incompatible" on purpose for reasons other than being technically unable to run on the device. (Like for example Google and Samsung want to keep their launcher and Milk music only running on certain devices thar they benefit from so everything else is flagged as incompatible. Also it may be that devs haven't optimized for certain devices and so don't want it running on them and then get low ratings for devices they don't support.

Almost all applications either paid/free or compatible/incompatible are available outside google play, just google it and download it.
Which version of ms office are you using and where did you find the apk, link please, I'm just interested in word,

U can make a google search and you will find a lot of downloadable links...
The only ones that are truly incompatable are apps that require specific hardware features that aren't physically present in an incompatible device.
The best place I've found to get apps outside of Google play is Aptoide. Yes, there are plenty of crappy porn apps and repos full of pirated ones , but the default store, and many others have any legitimate free app you could want, in any past or present version you could want. It has adult content filtering turned on by default as well. The Aptoide app also has a play store-like update tab and auto-update feature, too. A recent update made huge improvements to the UI, which closely mimics the style of Google play. Just make sure to skim over feedback to check for issues, and avoid app versions that are higher than they should be.
They're all incompatible for one very simple reason: The developers haven't enabled the QHD resolution in Google play. It's really that simple and that stupid.
I had this same rubbish for almost a year with the TF700T, it was the only and first device with 1920x1200 at that time, and nearly évery app was incompatible.
Sideloading them always worked perfectly well, no issues.

You are right..
For example BBM is working fine in Note Pro and Note 2014 but in a bad resolution.

Oh man, that was just the tip of the iceberg with the TF700T. Mine still fights like a champ, but with the hardware specs it had for the time of its release, it should have gotten much more attention. Development was slow and scarce, and the stock firmware was riddled with issues and bugs. I typically go for whatever device has the best, newest hardware, and it stays seems like the second and third place devices get all the attention and accommodation. Going through it with the galaxy note pro 12.2 as we speak. I'm working on building a working cm 11 ROM for it in my spare time. All its had for weeks is twrp recovery. I just wish I had more time.

I'm assuming everyone else's Gtab had some handango crap market installed by defualt. What on earth was Viewsonic's idea there? Is there a reason they didn't install the normal full market or at least have an option to use it?
And yes, I know I can get a fully functioning market. I've got it on TnT Lite 4.1.0
ViewSonic does NOT have the option to use the normal market.
At this time, Google does not officially allow the market on tablets. The way the market is supposed to work is that it allows each individual device access only to those applications that are compatible with it. Google says the current implementations of Android were never designed to run on tablets and therefore won't give the tablets market access. Once Google releases Android 3 (Honeycomb) which is designed specifically for tablets it is expected that tablets will then have official access to the market or a brand new market designed specifically for tablets.
Market
Google has to license a device to use the Market. For whatever legal/business reasons, Google has only licensed one or two currently available tablets like the Galaxy Tablet. The market fix here is unofficial and unapproved.
Is there a way to fool the market into thinking this is a galaxy tab?
Sent from my GTablet-TnT-Lite using Tapatalk
Essentially, it works like this. Android is Open Source but Google Apps (Gmail, Maps, Market, etc.) are not. Anyone can use Android on their device for free, but to use Google Apps they must license them from Google. Google is concerned about a phone version of Android being used for tablets, so they refuse to license Google Apps to tablet makers until 3.0 comes out. Galaxy Tab is a special case and I suspect it was done under protest, but perhaps Google was willing to use Samsung's device to test the market's readiness for an official Google tablet.

Stupid on google's part IMO. Open should be open, 100%. I do realize they have to deal with the phone nazis though, so I suppose I'm not that surprised.
Regardless, I'm loving my Gtab so far. I'm hoping to eventually get Debian running on it if the boot process is open enough, which it seems to be.
I suppose, but at the end of the day they have so little control over Android, which is their brand. I sometimes which they had more. Especially when I see how few pure Android devices there are.

This has been my main issue since getting the 7.0 Plus. I'll DL an app from the marketplace that has tablet enhancements and what I'll end up getting on the device is the phone version of the app. Examples are Xfinity, Gigbeat, IMDB, and Google Docs among others. I'm assuming it's the screen resolution on these. But, I dunno. Is there any way to force the tablet version of the app?

Google Docs as far as I know doesn't really have a "Tablet Version" not all apps do. If you search the web market and see 2 different versions, try to install it from there. If not you can contact the developer and ask them to make a tablet specific version. I can state this about Google Docs for sure because I had a Transformer earlier and it used the same version.
Is there a way to spoof and/or change its DPI settings so than an app thinks it's running on a 1200x800 tablet?

No, in theory you might be able to modify the build.prop but in the end the easiest way is to just contact the developer. I did that with Splashtop, and 3 days later they had released an update with the support for the Tab Plus' resolution.
My splashtop works great. I wish EA would get on board with this. I love playing Madden and NFSHP

Splashtop works great locally, not over the internet. Pocketcloud is much more bandwith efficient over RDP.
Is this something that ICS will fix?
Often when I buy or install an app for my phone I see that the same app is not available for my tablet. If it was just few things I wouldn't care, but it seems disproportionately high.
Is my market screwed up or does everyone have that?
If it is everyone, what gives? I can see some games limiting resolution for performance reasons but there are a lot of other apps I see prohibited that don't make sense.
I know, it's highly annoying. Most developers haven't updated their list of compatible devices in months, except to add the S3. It's a simple thing to do, but they just don't care. I have a ton of supposed 'not compatible' apps that run just fine, but can't be installed through the market because they're too lazy to change their list of devices. Morons...
You can sideload most apps and games. (Install on phone and copy the data to your tablet manually. The process is explained on the forum here somewhere.)
They're forcing us to consider alternate methods of acquiring the apps, especially when you don't have a second Android device. (like me..) We don't want to download, but they're not exactly giving us much of a choice... >.<
I noticed that most EA games not available. Sucks because I bought Dead space and Mass effect on phone and they are great games but wanted to play on a big screen.
Also Flipboard I use. I did sideload it and its working quite well. Some problems occur but still very usable.
I don't think it is just the whole updating the compatibility list, with many apps - It's b/c there are things that simply do not work on tablets for whatever reason, and so they ahve not been made to show compatibility for tablets.
I have found at least 15-20 apps from my BIONIC that I cannot install on my tablet, one of them being the Amazon App Store - which sucks b/c I got OpenOffice Pro free through Amazon and now cannot install it on my tablet without sideloading it.
I've been looking at Chinese smartphones for a while but haven't yet taken the plunge. However, a colleague of mine asked me for my opinion and I nudged him in the direction of the X2, as it would have been what I would have gone for had I gone for one...
He went for it and I am impressed. But I didn't realise (probably niaively) that it would be so dislodged from Google. Obviously not completely detached, but there is no Play Store, G+, Play Services etc as you will all know. I've been on XDA for many years and I'm somewhat of an HTC fanbuy (see my sig :laugh so I know all about unlocking bootloaders, rooting, flashing custom recoveries, firmware, custom roms etc so I am absolutely fine doing all that. He has brought the phone back to me and asked if I can help him with it; basically give him a more "westernised" Android experience I suppose
So once unlocked, rooted and flashed the (apparently) only custom rom available (KangVIP), am I able to flash a gapps package to it? And if anyone has done so, would you please be able to point me to the right one to use? He tried adding google apps from the built-in appstore but they don't play nicely (I wouldn't expect them to), presumably because the framework isn't there
Coming from a long list of mainstream devices, it's amazing to me to see a subforum with only one of two threads I understand the lack of support isn't due to unwillingness though; just a lack of owners and developers. I've been on XDA so long because of how helpful everyone is and I try to help others where I can from my experiences and techy logic
I would be extremely grateful for a little bit of advice if someone wouldn't mind :good:
Thank you all
PS - The device is the 16GB 703L and is currently running the B106 update (EMUI 3.1)

When you install the play store from the Chinese App Store it installs the Google Framework. The only two things you need to install are the Play Store and GoogleContactsSyncAdapter. You can download the GoogleContactsSyncAdapter here:

Thanks for this. I did read this in another thread actually but I was reading so much that it got lost in my brain somewhere
So at the moment play store is installed (I don't have the X2 with me at the moment). Play store won't load because of not being able to authenticate with Google servers. Also G+ doesn't work for the same reason and obviously sync doesn't work. So am I right in thinking that one sync adapter will solve all of that? If so I'll sort it tomorrow for him :good:

I didn't have to do anything on my new X2 other than install the play store and GoogleContactsSyncAdapter. Go into settings---Manage Apps and clear data for the play store and see if it opens. Mine opened no problem and I was able to sign into my Google account from there. When I opened maps it asked me to update Google play services and when I did the play store would no longer open. So I installed the Google play services update, rebooted and everything worked fine after that.

Excellent... Thanks a lot! I forwarded the link to him and told him to download and install it and he reports everything is working. To say he is grateful is an understatement. I was bombarded with messages at 2am saying how amazing it is
Just need to help him get rid of all of the Chinese bits now. Changing default apps and keyboard, launcher etc. He's not really interested in rooting which is a shame because of all the system apps I'd like to clear out for him but if he's happy I'll let it go. Swiftkey is standard for me so that's a definite recommendation. And yes something along the lines of Apex or Nova will improve it 1000%. At least then he can have an app drawer and either hide the stock Huawei apps or put them into a folder, never to be opened again
Messaging-wise he's already using WhatsApp but I'll mention Textra anyway

Hi Guys.
Now its been a few months with the device, I know a lot of you are using the device with GMS. I have decided not to side load it on to the device, It took me a while to start get used to using the phone without. I have not had any real issues with getting apps via app gallery and petal search. (I have the odd app that doesn't work 100%, but they are apps i can live without)
how are you getting on with it all?
its been good for me also, thought i would have had a lot more issues but every app i need is there, the only exclusion atm being ebay which i can easly use via web as its layout is same as an app anyway lol
I think like most initially I was apprehensive but 8 weeks on I don't even notice tbh, life continues and I've got a banging bit of kit

Pretty much how I feel, still a few apps here and there like OP said. Do hope AppGallery gets fleshed out soon, sounds like there's promising things on the way - just hoping Huawei invest in their ecosystem / store as they said they would!
That said, Petal Search was a pretty smart way for them to get arround Apps not being launched on their own store... Well played Huawei.
I used my phone with and without google play store. Decided to debloat my phone and got rid of all huawei and google services, including app stores. This impacted battery drastically. It added me 3 hrs of on-screen time. As for an app store, I use modded apkpure market. Mod disables all reporting, ads etc.
P.s Now i have a ridiculously long battery life. Enjoying my phone more than before.

This is actually a really interest approach that makes a lot of sense. One thing I will say is HMS still seems to be better on the battery than GMS devices / installed. I guess it would be a lot of the data collection and analysis from Googles end.
Do mapping services still work with both cores completely removed? Has there been any draw backs at all?
The Google maps app works fine. I use it daily. But apps that use Google maps needs Google services to display the map(Like Grab). They don't work. This is the only drawback that I experienced.

Oh sorry, I used this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-p40-pro/how-to/adb-debloating-t4088633
In addition, I got the app called "App inspector" and got rid of many more apps than those in the guide. App inspector is for getting the package name of bloatware so i can use adb to uninstall.
