I just saw a youtube clip about someone who installed this on his droid;
Anybody tried it on the N1?
Where did you get it from?
Should be an update to your Maps app available in the Market, it didn't install for me, said package wasn't signed correctly, I was using a rom with known issues with Google Services though so I'm reflashing right now to try again. You can go to buzz.google.com in your browser to use their web app. Has a pretty clean interface.
installed and works fine on a non rooted nexus.
Got it workin on mine now too, pretty sweet.
I just installed it on my rooted nexus one here in canada and found several other people testing it out. Seems to work fine just not sure how often I will bother to load it up.
Installed on Cyanogen Beta 4 with my theme, and works perfect. Installed from market
Downloading... Installing.... WORKS.
Buzz works great through Maps, but has anyone got it working properly from the Browser via buzz.google.com? When I try to post a buzz through maps, it goes right through. But through browser, I just get the little grey "processing" spiral.
This Maps 4.0 have Navigation out of USA? Thanks
Weird... I can't find google maps on the market at all - no update or anything...
Do they roll it out gradually to people?
Or maybe it's because I installed the 2.1-patch1 myself? (didn't wait for the official notification)
My phone is stock non rooted and not unlocked.
testing.... no
Got the update last night in the android market, this is pretty cool.
Google maps is not in the market of free applications. Although free, you need to have access to the paid apps market.

should be in the market. look for google maps and see which version you have installed. should be 4.0 .. if so do menu layers and buzz .. and thats it... start buzzing if you wish.
I've just restored apps after a wipe and my Google Maps is showing as 3.4. I go to market and it's not offering me an update. What can I do?

It is working OK with SE X10. However, neither check-in nor buzz is available in China. We have to wait for the unlocked version
Is this brut mode?
i've got blank (white) screens on checkins etc.
It's very annoying that you have to create your cache all over again every update.
Thx. for posting the apks, Google has something against letting update the Xperia Arc with them via the Market.

They also have something against HTC Desire and Cosmote Romania. I have Google Maps 5.1 installed from a third party source and it works just fine! When I go to the Market on the PC, it says This item is not available for your carrier. On the phone, it isn't displayed at all and I don't want to use Market Access. Eventually, I have installed GM 5.3 from enuazeal. Thanks.

In Estonia we have the same problem - some applications/updates are not available via market.
If you still want to use the market:
Root and use market enabler
or
Get a SIM from a country that is "good enough" in Google's eyes
My Arc is from Germany, free of any lock or branding, why it would refuse to show it I have no idea.
But the install from apk went on just fine.
How to

However it doesn't work here in Syria, I believe Google checks the IP as well
Well my excitement for this app has improved!! I'm originally from Seattle, but I'm over here in Abu Dhabi visiting my GF for about 3 weeks, and for once my GPS can finally locate me! Granted, I have to keep the phone in Airplane Mode and the GPS icon keeps doing it's little flashing (aka no lock), but at least it's showing me on the correct intersection. I have yet to see what happens if I go outside onto a completely different block, but it's progress. Now only if there was a way to make the maps actually preload onto the phone and I could use GPS outside of the houses' WiFi so I can drive around town w/o getting lost.
She has a Captivate that I've rooted and she has installed a Du (one of their cellphone providers over here) SIM card into her phone so she can make calls, but she doesn't have a data plan. I'm going to update her phone to this version of Maps and see if her GPS acts better and/or can at least locate her based on cell tower location.
is brut mode?
I'm still running 5.0. Besides the checkin's and dashboard option, is this update really worth installing?
Are you serious? Its free!!!!

Just because something is free doesn't make it good. I've found many android app updates not worth updating to because either something is broken, drastically changed, or more useless.
THX
Thank you for the download
Hi,
how does the offline availability work? I plan to go on vecation next month and I would like to use maps navigation but I do not have any contract in the US for data connection. Can I plan my route on it and connecting with wifi and it will download all the data needed so that I can drive just fine?
I dont beleive this has been mentioned here... Apologies if it has! *mods please delete if duplicate*
A free UK sat nav alternative to Google Maps Navigation.
(Android 2.2 +) Download and install maps after the software installation via the NavFree store (Map also free). Then no need for a data connection to navigate the maps.
might be useful when out in the wilds!
I picked it up via expansys - just google 'NavFree expansys'
APK is 65Mb so free space needed! Due to the size I can't attach.
Cheers
S
I've downloaded and installed this, thanks. Unfortunately, when I try to run it, I just get a black screen for a few seconds then I'm back to my home screen. Has anyone else had the same problem? I've not downloaded any maps yet (waiting for a wifi connection!), but I doubt if that's the problem.
Edit:
I've since found THIS discussion. It seems this doesn't work with Gingerbread at the moment, but they're working on it.
Today as soon as I opened my Android Market app in my HTC Desire, it showed me that and update for Google Maps version 5.5.0 is available. And I was able to update it without any problem.
But later I did a factory reset of my phone because the Mobile security in my phone was malfunctioning (not because of new google maps) from last few days due to some unknown reasons.
After reset I was expecting to get the google maps updated automatically, but unfortunately it did not. I am afraid why it is so?
I was eagerly waiting for the update form last so many months, and finally when I got it, I lost it even before I could explore it nicely.
Please tell me I you have any idea how can I retrieve my update to version 5.5.0? Or any suggestions related to the matter.
Thanks a lot.
Dunno, go to the market, find Google Maps and tap on update? What am I missing here?
the thing is that it first has to register that you haven't updated google maps - after downloading it today, they registered on the server that you had already recieved it.
best thing to do is to go to market.google.com and try there to download google maps there; it will check the version and when it sees the old version, will override to update!
Got market enabler from market, fake provider like T-Mobile, install as usual.

Here you go guys, here's the link to the new market rebranded GOOGLE PLAY.
most people will get this update to their mobiles, but anyone who needs it for whatever reason just hit the link.

i also tested it on two ChaChas for some days...so far no problems ;o)
how can i check my market version?
##edit##

So far no issues, and seems to load faster. 'My apps' seems to load about the same time as last.
Nice, I finally upgraded lol. The old markets were crap except the original one

Wow thanks!

How I think, if insert this version in CM7 and delete market updater, market will not update any when, isn't it?

True, but if 3.4.5 rolls out and it's even better why wouldn't you allow it to update?
Original post updated to market 3.4.7 aka (Google Play)
what's new ?
i dont see any different ...... may be,for a near future right?
Original Post updated
Play Store 3.5.16
Updated to play store 3.5.19
Check original post
Thanks for this App. I use CM7 and cant access Market after I flashed GApps.
Everything's ok when i installed this Apps. The download speed is faster than Play Store which i updated from Original Stock ROM.
Just a litte question (...or i hope so )
I installed the newest reaper rom an my desire s (my spare device) and saw its without google apps and so also without the gmail app
Well because its based on CM i tought i could just flash the gapps .zip from the cm7.1 thread and get the google apps...put it is not in the app drawer...
Would be pleased if anybody could help to get the gmail app onto my reaper rom based desire s
(because my account hasn't enough posts i'm not able to post directly into the reaper thread...sorry for this)
Why not just install the Google apps from the market? You get the option to install them when you first create your Google account on the phone.

yeah, what he said
Mhmm..i would do this, if the Google Mail App would appear in the list, but it doesn't..
Same issue with the play store on my pc...i can choose the desire S as an device to install on, its greyed out :/
Could this be a licence issue based on where you live? I run Reaper and to test this have just reinstalled Reaper v2.2, then added the v2.2.2 update after a full wipe. Put in my Google ID, go to the Play Store (I hate that name) and Google Mail is sat there - installs perfectly.
I also thought something like this, but i am from Germany and it's the first time something like this happens...
With my Nexus S (or any of my Android Phones, from the G1 over the Desire or the ZTE Blade) on every Custom Rom i tried until now, i had no problems with google apps like this...so i can't consider why this time
But i found out something...the clock goes wrong if i choose internet based time settings, it always says 2 hours erlier than it is here...perhaps the phone does not get the right localization so this might be the problem??
Jesterday i tried to go around the possible base of this problem with localization by using the market enabler app but it did not work...
The Gmail App appeared in the Play Store (hate that name es well ^^) but i could not download it to the device
Then i had enough so i searched a matching gmail.apk, pushed it via adb to the system and reconnected the market link with titanium backup.
Seams that this was the key...mail receiving and sending works unitl now
Thanks for the help...nice to be on XDA
Glad you got it working. Not sure what would have caused that problem before, but hopefully you can now just enjoy Reaper for the thing of beauty that it is.
Jep...i'm lucky it worked like this
I think i know now why this happend...it's because of the fact that google did not own the brand "gmail" in germany...so it was forbidden to spread any related software under this name, also the gmail app in the appstore
But a few days ago google now is the owner of "gmail" in germany too, so this issue might be gone soon
Reaper is really geat...good and stable rom...a perfect match for me and the desire s
