[Resolved] help wifi not starting (Mac Address unavailable) - General Questions and Answers

Hello professionals
i have serious problem about 2 months ago with my HTC E9 Plus Dual SIM , wifi will not start also bluetooth , when i click on wifi it going grey and become white again , i checked Mac address it is said unavailable , sometimes if i was lucky will work after first reboot , sometimes i need to reboot it 50 times to get start , it start and connect for 5 or 10 mins then wifi stuck again and disconnect , at that time i tried to turn it off but nothing work. note the phone is rooted.
i tried the following :
Not working = wifi did not turn on.
1- firmware with stock firmware and update latest software version ( did not work).
2- replace sdio.ko and twlan_drv.ko on system\lib\modules (did not work).
3- i changed chmod for both files above to 777 (did not work).
4- clear cache partition and other caches (did not work).
5- reset to factory settings (did not work).
6- rooted phone (did not work).
7- change Phone name and bluetooth name when it is work but after a 5 mins driver got stuck and not back again.
8- tried reset wifi drivers or reload (*#265..etc) the code did not work.
9- sometimes after 20 times reboot (did not work).
10- activate flying mode and reboot then try (did not work).
11- i tried to restart in safe mode (same old story).
UPDATE : George suggested to me to try to fix wifi antenna and as i mentioned below in replies i just tighten the back cover and it work again without any troubles again thank you george
i am not sure if there is any steps to do to get my wifi back , i am sure it is software issue because it is work sometimes , i don't know also if there are files need to be replaced or trick can do the job .
please help ...
Greetings
Maen

I am 100% sure it's a wifi antenna issue and NOT a software related problem. Many HTC phones have wifi problems. See here https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/226502/I+cannot+enable+WiFi+on+my+phone
I suggest you have someone take apart your phone and replacing the wifi antenna cable as you can see here https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/HTC+One+X+Antenna+Replacement/31071 or you can DIY ?

i contacted HTC they told me it is possible that wifi board and replace it will cost me 250$ which is fu***en stupid because price of new mobile = wifi board.
i doubted that but too stupid to pay 250$ to repair phone while you can buy new one.
i read about antenna , i think it is part of solution , today i will try it , after those kids in my home leave LOL

"No Sim" ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Hi guys,
using this device for a couple of month now without problems
today when I was driving I guess I pressed something wrong 'cause the phone network settings popped and I accidentally chose the wrong provider and now the phone says there is NO SIM!!!! ahhh
Tried shutting it down, restarting it, taking battery & sim out, resetting the phone for yesterdays settings, resetting it to manufacture settings and nothing helped still a message saying NO SIM
so.......... I got to options either the sim went dead in the middle of the day 'cause I told it to use a different provider then mine or the device is a goner.............
tried installing an old sim (not 3.5G) and it still said NO SIM
what say u ?
oh and pls help me
thanks
have you warranty for your phone? looks like you have hardware failed.
well I think the device is in warranty (two and a half month old) the problem is that it was a prize in a competition in the grand nation of america and we are far away from there.....
could it be malfunctioning in the software ?
I am upgrading the rom now maybe it will reslove itself
well updating the Rom to the latest with WM 6.1 didnt solve my problem
is there anyone here who has a similar problem with this or any of HTC devices (Lost the ability to recognise SIM cards) ??????
I've seen a few posts on this forum, complaining on a SIM troubles. If i remember correctly, the reason has been a bad SIM holder socket or something similar. Try looking for those forum threads for more info.
Anyway, the first thing i would probably try is carefully cleaning the SIM socket contacts as well as the actual SIM card contacts with alcohol or something, just to make sure it isn't just a bad contact.
I have been there. My device has been repaired twice and works fine now. The last repair concerned the socket indeed. Maybe that's your problem as well, so check:
- does your SIM work in another mobile?
- does another SIM work in your TC?
- did you clean, reseat your SIM card, try a few times!?
Good luck!
I've polaris too and i've already replaced the sim socket, which malfunctioned..2 weeks after replacement weird things started to happen. I would loose coverage while having a conversation in a place, where all bars are full. Then, after restarting the phone it would show that no sim is inserted AND here's the funny part, after the next restart, the device would return to normal. I could make calls for another day and then it goes again..Right now a week has gone by while i'm restarting my phone every day. The problem is, that right now i need to restart my phone 3-5 times for it to start working normally again (without saying that no sim is inserted).
I can't work out why would this be happening, because if it would be a bad socket, i couldn't use it again after restart, but i CAN.
Can anyone give me advice? Maybe there's a virus from which you can't recover just by flashing the rom
I had the same issue! Therefore I had the phone 3 times in repair under warranty and the issue wasn't rapaired until the third time! All together the phone was in repair over more than 2 months!
I'm pissed off on this lousy service at HTC!
I'm hoping for you not to have such a misfortune then I...
I had the same problem after dismantling.
For me it was that the SIM cable that is going to the motherboard was way to inward. I just withdraw it a bit and that did the trick.
try to install new radio..
if still doesn't works, maybe ur htc hardware problem
I agree with wakhairul2,
if it's not the Radio Rom (GSM depends from it) so it's the hardware!
if it's the second, this is common, Simcard Holder Flex for the Touch Cruise fails easily! but it's also very easy to find a cheap spare..
Anyway, if you have warranty and is less costly then go there..
Else, for a new Simholder hardware check the ebay, Click here to view
You can find for lower than 15 Euros.
Good luck

Need help with my G-sensor

Hey guys/gals, I need someone with hardware knowledge. I've been working with my Fuze for a long time and I pretty much have a handle on everything, well almost. My Fuze had a tragic run in with some rain. I was able to get almost everything to work again after complete disassembly and drying. I know, I was as shocked as you all are! Anyway, as you can see from the title, my g-sensor is the only thing not responding. I'm not afraid to dive into my phone if it's something I can repair, but is it a module on the phone? If so, where? I have the manuals but they state nothing about the g-sensor location. I've tried the calibration, but nothing. Anyone have any ideas? Also, I have a thread in the marketplace, looking for a speaker/ringer for the phone. While reassembling, the wire got pinched. Thanks guys, as always.
same problem with me. gsensor is broken. cheiefs please give some clue on repairing.

The same problem here.., any solution or fix??, why this happend???
lets try to find something common that might be the reason. I will try o write some possible reasons :
1- did you drop the phone recently ?
2- do you use a car phone holder with magnet ?
3- did you left the phone to direct sunlight?
I would guess being submerged in water is what caused it as it says this in the first message.....

Possible Idea to fix death grip issue

I have had a idea about this for weeks and the soultion
http://www.maplin.co.uk/conductive-pen-33837?tabid=1&criteria=usb&c=so&u=strat15
As This pen is used to re-place broken conductive tracks on circuit boards etc
(for those want to know exactly what its for, read on the site)
my idea is to coat the back of the plastic where the wifi and gsm aerial's make contact with the board to amplify the signal, instead of the little tracks that htc have provided.
But my problem is finding a video showing the camera area removed without damaging it (where the wifi arial is)
I have been in the gsm repair trade for years, and i take this idea from the old nokia 3210's and the aerial's on those which used to just clip of and where the same idea.

i remember someone saying that the heated their phone to remove the cover near the camera (not sure how he did it)
you might want to try the software fix that is already available, many people said that their problem has been fixed after applying the software fix
but if you manage to open it can you report if there is any improvement in the signal attenuation in dbm?(using some app like wifi analyzer)
edit:found a video but how to open the back is not shown...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfCgPHw47Ho
There was another thread in this forum (can't find it now) written months back where someone was trying and achieved successes removing back off phone, as you say by heating the phone to melt glue
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA App
Hi I've looked at numerous videos, but none show removing the top,and I don't want to heat up my beloved phone!!
I'll flash a new Rom,radio and kernel tonite, then the software fix and see how it goes, unless one of the custom time already have it included, and report back

I think that you'll find that most of the Custom ROMS have the wifi fix already in them.
This was the other thread that I remember reading before, hope it is of help..

[Q] Xoom working without display

Hey guys..
Tried to find same question here if it's posted.. but not.. so here goes.. A bit of a long type.. but please do bear with me.
I bought xoom wifi while i was in Japan from Au KDDI. But now I am posted in a different country. (we are talking about almost 5 hours of GMT) difference . And in this country, they don't even have a Motorola official dealer. So professional tech support is WAY WAY out of the question and a luxury hard to come by.
Here's the problem... I am sure this must have been asked somewhere else.. nevertheless.
I have been having the Xoom wifi for over a year now and it's been working darn perfectly. It has gone with me through desserts to snow capped mountains and literally been to both Hell and Heaven and worked Solidly without a wisp of a problem. Always have been rough hardy and like a thoroughbred horse which never had let me down when I needed the most. I just love this device so darn much.
Last night., i took some pictures and was using an app to "hide" them. (well., not of the obvious type you are thinking) but more related to medical evidence. There were some 300 odd pics so it was taking time. I left the xoom to finish it..... when i picked it up later.. the work was finished but now my entire gallery was showing as "no images / videos".. also all the MP3 were shown as missing but actual files were there in the folders.
I searched the web and it said that I have to "force stop" the "Image gallery" service in the settings > applications> all menu (name could be wrong as I can't remember it now) and allow the xoom to rebuild it's gallery references.
Did so.. and...nothing happened.. still the Gallery shows as "no images / videos"
So... did the next obvious thing of shutting down the device and tried to restart it.
well .. that was it
Xoom doesn't restart... no logo is showing ... nothing.. complete dead. I am sure i have more than 75% of the battery.
Tried all the key combinations of up, down , power keys... numerous times and in duration.. nothing. I charged the battery till the green light comes up..then tried some more variations..
Then suddenly, i heard my email notification sounds.... and the skype chat sounds.... when I checked the wifi router.. it shows that the xoom is connected. So basically the device is switched on and working perfectly it seems without display.
I really have no way of getting professional tech help at least for another 6-7 months. Can't ship it out as it would be cheaper for me to buy a new one. and to top it all, my warranty is over last June.
the device is as it's bought .. no modifications, rootings or flashing done to it. Just the usual updates rolled out only.
If the device had a slow death.. i would accept it and even would give it a proper farewell with a bouquet of flowers as it had been through a lot with me. But this sudden drop dead act is something I cannot accept.
So.... HELP... greatly appreciated.

Problem solved.
Let me jot down the process here for future reference if anyone else come up with the same problem
My problem = Xoom working ( i can hear the notifications, chat sounds etc)... but no display. No display what so ever at all... Nothing.. zip.. zero..
Tried and Failed = soft reset, volume up down combo buttons, holding them down for varies duration of times... cursing colourfully, threatening with abandonment and death, shaking it violently and blasphemy against the all mighty with a "Y u No work xoom" face !! ... non of that worked.
Solution = I narrowed it down to three problems.
1. Battery gone kaput !
2. The power button had worn or broken off
3. Display cables are at a fault
So..i figured that I have to rip it open to get a look at these and thanks to ifixit... got the guide.... and burrowed a set of tools from a friend
1. Took the cover off... and the top cover off as well.. so left with a half naked xoom
2. Checked the power button carefully... to see if there were any faults... NOP .. it was working fine
3. Moved on the to next .. battery ... seems ok (actually there was no way of checking it.. but it looked fine and the connectors were ok) so I figured that its ok and best not to fiddle with it.
4. well.. the connector cable seemed fine... but unlike what they have it in ifixit.. mine were separate cables attached (not as a ribbon) .. and i felt that it might be the cause of the problems as it seems have got a little rusty and seems to have moisture on it.
5. "Hey.. babe... where's your nail polish remover?? " .. with that question.. got it for "free" and carefully dabbed it and started cleaning the cables.
6. Half way through and ... "THERE WAS LIGHT" ... the screen just lit up
7. Have a smug on your face for actually "fixing" something without breaking it more beyond repair....take away all the death threats...thank the lord and make a deal with him to forget the things you said as you didn't mean it... check if all your data is till there without being mucked up.....walk like a boss showing people or spouse "see I bloody fixed it.. who da man now eh???"
Thanks a load to all who have put in their two cents trying to help out... love ya all

Connectivity issues after screen replacement

Hello !
We changed a screen on a P30, we transferred the old fingerprint to avoid malfunctions BUT now we have connectivity issues. :
- The WiFi works 1 day by a week... Mostly times when we try to connect we have an error "Access denied".
- GPS doesn't work, on Maps my localization is wrong.
- Bluetooth power on and then go off few seconds after.
We resetted the phone many times, we tried to flash the last full firmware directly on boot and OTG (DLOAD).
I'm pretty sure it's just a software issue and maybe the modem image is bad... What could we do now ?
Thank you for your help <3

We tried to transfer everything back to the old frame but using the new screen connected to the lcd connector and guess what ? Everything was working again ! But the LCD is really too hard to unmount from the new frame...
This sounds like you left the antenna cable loose or maybe it got damaged, did you check the antenna cable or replace with a new one?
