Or AOSP 8.0

By the time we actually get it (2018 probably) most of us who haven't replaced our phones yet will probably have done so by then.

You'd be surprised how long people keep their phones, most keep them for 2 years, others even longer... I've had it for like a year or so now and I really don't see much of a reason to replace it yet. I'm probably going to hold off until the S10 or whatever is out by then.

Not this kid. I doubt we'll see O until mid to late next year. I'll be on another phone by then. These companies like Samsung take waaaay too long to get new versions of the OS out. I truly believe they do it on purpose so people upgrade to a new phone sooner because they want new features and the new OS. Think that's why I'm moving to iOS after I'm done with this S7 Edge.

No don't go to iOS D: there's nothing to do there! Flash a custom ROM! But seriously you're probably right, or they just don't care about updating the phones

I aim to keep my s7 edge until it dies on me. I also thought about switching over to Apple, but i really don't want to spend that much money on phones anymore. On Android you can easily get a phone for 100-200 bucks, and still do everything you did with a "high-end" phone. If you need a new iphone for whatever reason, it will always be expensive. So my next phone will either be a phone with guaranteed support from lineage, or just a pixel 2xl when the price is reasonable.
I am still very fond of my s7 edge though. Nothing is missing from this device, and the support is better than i thought.

Yes, the S7 Exynos actually has pretty good ROM support, something I didn't expect when I bought it, since it has an exynos chip... This phone can really handle pretty much everything I throw at it, the only thing that would make me want to buy a new phone is the bezels... I mean come on, you can't deny that the S8, G6 or Essential phone look gorgeous

They do look gorgeous, no doubt about it. But still not that much, that i would shell out a huge amount of cash, just to do the same things only on a new screen. If money is not that much of a concern, or you are willing to sell your phone and finance your new device this way, then all is good. Me personally, i don't see that much innovations anymore, and i have to admit at the moment i really do not need that much more. A few years ago, it was a total different story, switching from a HTC Touch HD (Windows Mobile 6.0) to an iphone 4. Now that was a huge step in the right direction. But now? I don't think that getting a S8 or S8+ would give me the same level of astonishment and satisfaction i had back then. But i am still very much excited what the future holds in store for us, but it will take longer i reckon.
First world problems...

You're totally right, pretty much everything has reached the limit of what we need... 4gb ram is plenty, so is the SoC... The resolution is high enough to basically not see pixels. Camera's are getting so good that it's hard to tell the difference... The only thing I would really want to buy a new phone for is Slimmer bezels, a bigger battery and front facing speakers... That's all I really need... And a headphone jack ofcourse

The only thing we gotta wait now is an AOSP 8.0 rom to pop-up into the Exynos Devs forum hehe

Yes the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge will receive Android Oreo but the question: will they receive the latest user interface "samsung experience"?

Sweet a year from now we'll be able to try it!
To be fair there are next to no changes anyway. I have it on my 6p. This is one update I'm kinda "meh" about honestly.
Also, I agree with you guys about upgrading phones. I love this phone, I can't see trading for a long time. I came back to android after a short stint with an iPhone 7 plus (was a great phone mind you) that I sold to buy this one and still get back $500 on top of it. I'm 100% happy with this phone.

I own both the s8 the s8+ and trust me... they are not very practical (s8 is somewhat usable)..
yeah they look fantastic, but that's about it... that's the reason I'm still using the s7e, you just can't deny the usefulness of top and bottom bezels..
not to mention the awful fp placement..

I've held an S8 (non plus) and I do agree, having bezels is nice in landscape mode so you can actually hold the phone... the fingerprint scanner position seems usable on the normal S8, but not preferred... can't imagine it being usable on the S8+ or the just plain ugly and big Note 8

Yea, its a good thing to know.

Whats with the Verizon Note Edge?

I just got this a few days ago and I notice its lacking a lot. There is no development for it? No lollipop update either? Is there even root for it? What's going on? Should I swap it out for an s6 while im still within my 15 days of activation?
Not a lot of development for any note edge. Sorry. Sprint and att are the only 2 of the big 4 in the us updated. I havent tried to re root but i read it is the same process and doable. My bud has the t mobile and still waiting on the 5.0 update for his edge. Just wasnt a very well advertised phone. With the s6 edge doing so good the next note edge should take off a lot better and will have much more development. It is what it is man

The s6 edge was way over advertised, and opposite for the note. Which sucks because I don't think the s6 is beer in any way, shape, or form.
Id say stick with the Edge it has more features than the s6 in my opinion and development for the edge will pick up
I can't wait lol

Boy i sure hope so. I agree the note edge is superior from the s6 edge. S6 has a nice build and all and the built in wireless charging is a big plus for it. I just hope the next note versions dont go losing the removable back and micro sd slot. They got to get the wireless charging built in i would hope.

Wireless charging is easy to acquire though, the s6 will never have an s pen, removable battery, or sd slot.

I think you are better off getting the s6. The note 5 will released in in 5 months, and the resell value of the s6 will be greater than the note edge. Also once Samsung pay drops that will be a huge deal, better fingerprint scanner, camera, and screen. Yes you lose removable battery but I've swapped out my note 2,3,4 & edge battery probably a total of 10 times. You can completely charge the s6 in 80 minutes. As for sd card slot there's a ton of work arounds, get 128gb version, cloud, buy a portable keychain sd card. The s6 will get much more attention, the note edge was samsung prototype.... I'll tried you my mint condition note edge +100 for an s6 edge anyday
Sent from my SM-N915V
That makes no sense though, there's no realistic detail that makes the s6 better other than popularity. You can't even use the edges on the s6 got anything productive.

Exactly my thoughts! seems like Samsung went backwards with the S6, reminds me of a Google Nexus or dare I say Iphone, Samsung lost its key features on the S6 that made Samsung phones popular
Well, I have a week left on my 14 day trial with Verizon to swap out my note for something else. I really like it, but if there's something better out there I could be stuck with for a couple years.

The Verizon Note Edge is unlikely to see any development, from what I've seen. The locked bootloader is apparently a real problem.
An important thing to keep in mind here is that the Note Edge sold 600,000 units worldwide. The S6 and the S6 Edge sold 20 million units in preorders alone.
There just aren't enough of these devices in the hands of people knowledgeable enough to develop for them. It's sad, but there isn't much that can be done about it.

From what I understand it was 630,000 units over 2 months ago. Due to quite a few reasons though. Mainly, it was meant to be an expensive limited edition device not available to too many areas. Also because the regular note 4 had sold 4.5 million devices in less than a month, right before the edges release. I think we'll see the edge pickup big time, because everyone is getting familiar with the s6 edge, they're going to eventually realize, the note edge is a bigger, more functional version of that, with an s pen and a fully usable edge. I think it's going to be one of those devices that become more popular once people realize what it is.

They should sell the Note Edge as a "limited edition" and number them! :good: It will either hold its value better because it is unique and limited or it will be so limited as to have no interest at all...

I am thinking of trading my Note 7 for an S7, anything I should be aware of?

Haven't quite decided yet if I want the edge or S7. S7 is going for 640 which is not bad considering that Samsung will reimburse you 100 bucks. At 540 it's not a bad deal. I still have my Note 5 but I really miss being able to simply hold a phone with one hand. Note 7 was in between hating how to hold it but also feeling much more smooth compare to holding my Note 5 which really felt like a tablet.
I just wanted to know how easy it is to root. I am sadden that I don't see TEKHD rom on this phone. Seems like it would of been phenomenal on it.
Any draw backs I should be aware of or is it worth me waiting it out for the S8 series to come out which is just around the corner.
Picked up an S7 from Costco on Saturday, put it on EIP. So far I really like it. The Note 7 is a beauty, but this smaller phone is so much more practical. Watching Netflix and YouTube has still been fine on it.
The Samsung $100 credit is good, and I also hear Samsung might offer something in the future regarding the S8 or Note 8, for those who got an S7/Edge after turning in their Note 7.
Since I'm new to the S7 I also looked and asked around about root and ROMs. It seems the locked bootloader on the S7 is an issue, so development on this phone has been non existent other than a few modified stock ROMs. There is no guarantee that the S8 will have any better luck with unlocking the bootloader and having the ability to flash custom ROMs.
So I'd advise rather that making ROM development a deciding factor in getting the S7 or S8,just decide if your N5 is worth holding on to longer or not.

is the snapdragon 835 s8+ worth the upgrade from an exynos 8890 s7 edge?

Keep your money mate! If you were coming form an older phone I'd say make the leap, but you should be set for at least another year.
It totally depends on your circumstances. If this and if that, only you know those answers ..

It really depends. There is more to the switch than just the processor. Antutu performance wise its about 25 ranks higher than the S7 Edge in overall performance. My roommate updated from the S7 Edge and likes it and I have both and prefer the S8+. If processor is the only factor for you then you can hold off for a while maybe window shop at your local store to see if you like it better.
bigger screen and the battery life are my two big favorites over the S7E. The fact the S8+ is also far less laggy than the S7E (which has to be a software problem since the Note 7 ran like a raped ape in comparison to the S7E and they shared the same processor/ram)
battery life is nearly double for me. Which is worth it alone.
All I know is my wife's s7edge is running like crap right now. Even cleared up some memory, moved all kinds of stuff over, reset phone and still slow and the battery life since nougat is horrendous. Weird, right when the new phone comes out.
I have tested the s8 and from when I had my s7edge it's definitely faster and smoother, but it's nowhere near the speed of my Mate 9. Should work for my wife, but not me.
Seems like battery reviews are decent, but so where our s7's when we 1st got them.

Looks like nobody has mentioned that if you LOVED the way Note 7 felt in your hands with symmetrical curves front and back then you will be right at home with the S8/S8+. It's every bit as sleek as the Note 7 was. Much speedier and actually more sleek due to not having any buttons on the front.... Only negative I've got is no s-pen. Will upgrade to Note 8 as soon as it's out . Once again, if this will be enticing enough on top of what everybody else has said, will be all up to you

Thanks for the replies guys. I actually utilize soc for linux packages and such so any performance boost is good. One reason I was hesitant is the 8890 still ticks well. Also yeah if the note 8 is coming this year I may get that one. I love my s7e but I miss the note. The S pen makes a good mouse too.
How's the s8 durabilty? I already shattered my s7 edge in december and the insurance gave me a brand new one. I already wasted 100 on two tempered glass because of case incompatibility. I would run no screen protector but I'm wary lol.
Also my s7e internal memory is running out since most of my apps can't be moved to sd card lol.
Idk it doesn't seem that big of an upgrade, that's why I asked.
Until the Note 8 comes out there is zero on the market to replace what the Note 7 performed. Our Note 7's where mini PC's and I agree the S-pen had developed over the years to become a mouse. I want a Note 8 and am looking forward to its eventual introduction. I think the Note 7 is a legend of a mobile and NOT for the negative reason but its positive capabilities. I have never missed a mobile with the exception of the Note 7.

Well so long Sammy. It was fun while it lasted.

After purchasing a s8 from Tmobile by means of an insurance claim ($175) plus jump, something dawned on me. All the new none hardware features the s8 flaunts had been running and running solid on my s6 edge plus for over 2 months and were no longer awe inspiring. After 2 days with my new sleek looking beast I instantly knew no way did I want to pay $800 for a phone I basically had for 2 months, with a locked bootloader, and doomed by Samsungs slow update rollouts. After owning all Sammy phones since the s2 I traded in the s8 for for the LG V20. I must say the trade off has been absolutely worth every bit of the $300 dollars I saved and more. The only advantage Ive seen of the s8 is the snappy 835. Yes I didn't say the screen because ive had burn in with every phone i ever had. Everyting else(that matters to homosapiens) is pretty much advantage LG. I cant belive Ive been as much a fanboy as the I$hit apple fan boys all these years. I will miss my favorite devs from through the years and you guys who showed love to a noob. My bags are packed, Im off to the other side and without a note 8 in sight no plans of returning.

I went from a Note5 to Note7 and then for obvious reasons ended up with a S7e. The move from N7 to S7e was like going from a BMW to a Chevy Impala with the S7e being much more similar to my Note5 than Note7. I can't even imagine comparing a S8 to a S6. I'm getting a Note8 but moved to a S8+ in the interim because I just couldn't handle the S7e and how outdated it felt; especially after my brief stint with a N7.. I can't imagine comparing a S8 to a S6. But to each their own.

Not comparing but the s6 edge plus does have a 5.7 screen and I was using the s8 port for months with all features working so there was no newness about the s8 for me besides the smoothness. The note 8 is where its at though.

You can put the 580HP V8 engine from a 2017 COPO Camaro in to a 2015 V6 stripper. What you'll have is a two-year old V6 stripper with another car's engine. For me and I'm assuming quite a few here the annual move to the next generation flagship is about the sum of the parts not one particular feature or single piece of s/w. After using it for a while now I think the S8 (I have a S8+) is Samsung's greatest work to date. Even with some of its issues. There are people who for whatever reason can't or won't justify moving to the next big thing. That's OK but don't try to use whatever rationale supported that decision on others. Value is in the eye of the beholder.

I stay for the gearvr, but the S8+ is a very nice phone if you have an unlocked BL. Had an unlocked BL not been available from Samsung , I would have gone elsewhere. In the future I'll likely buy the standalone VR and buy another manufactures phone because they do seem like they are trying to move away from an unlocked BL.
All the while too, I'm waiting for google to put out a better asop hardware phone together featuring an amoled display and external sd card slot, they have always be behind the 8-ball with that, the best phone they ever put out with the S4 GPE for obvious reasons.
I have an old S6 Edge and the software, on the latest 7.0 is snappy and almost the same as my S8+, besides bixby and some other featured. By no means do they compare, but with the new software lately, even old phone seem to be zippy. My old Note 4, which hasn't gotten 7.0 is slow to a crawl. The new TouchWiz helps a great deal.
As for the lack of an unlocked bootloader and root, it is a bummer. But it cannot be discounted that this is the best phone out right now, in almost every aspect
I made the mistake of buying an S6. I jumped from it asap. I went BACK to a Note 4.
When the Note 7 came out, I bought one ASAP. I ended up with an S7e and wish I had just gone back to my Note 4 instead.
Now I have an S8, and am a little more happy, but i'll be getting a Note 8 day one.

I think you'll be waiting a very long time....
Google would rather you use their storage services than have the convenience of an SD Card.

Funny thing, I had a V20 which was absolute ****. I purchased the Exynos S8+ and I've never been so happy! I've never owned a Samsung before because I HATED the button layouts (the back was switched with recent) and just over all screamed cheap to me. Now with this phone.. The best!

I have Samsung Galaxy Core Prime SM-G360F.

Since that phone doesn't support any ROM in general, I am looking to buy either Galaxy S5 or S6. From LineageOS standpoint, which phone would be better?
So yeah, I have Core Prime G360f, and unfortunately, my phone doesn't support ROMs. I was looking to buy S5 since it's kinda cheap and I don't want to spend a lot of money on phones right now. S5, to me, is pretty ok phone. Waterproof, dustproof and according to GSMArena, has a better battery than S6. But..... S6 is supposed to be better, and was highly praised. And I hate stock roms. They just limit my phone and I really want to flash LOS on my phone right now. So, which Samsung phone would be better?
10.0.0.0.1 192.168.1.254
Btw, I did own S3 a while back, and I did flash a lot of roms on that phone. It was awesome, but I had to sell it because it was a used phone and had a awful battery life.
