HTC One A9 AT&T unable to flash RUU to upgrade to Android Nougat. - HTC One A9

I'm having a bit of trouble following the instructions to flash the one A9 to the 2.xxxx firmware, so that I can upgrade to Android 7. I have unlocked the bootloader, changed the cid to 11111111 and have S-Off, but when I try to flash the firmware, I get an error in cmd that says that the file is too large to download. I'm kinda lost and could really use some help.

rename the ruu to 2PQ9IMG.zip and place it on the root of your SD-card. Then reboot to downloadmode and follow instructions. Should fix your problem.

@Keno27, are you following a specific guide? could you point me to it please?

Okay, I have to get a new SD card, because the one I had before only worked with Samsung phones. My One A9 just says the sd card is corrupted.

I suggest using the correct cid also...

Which CID should I use?

The cid for us developer/unlocked device

Okay, managed to change the CID to the us unlocked variant. Now just need to get a new SD card.

The error about file being to large is probably only because you're not using htc_fastboot.exe to flash the firmware but instead the regular fastboot.exe from the android sdk... Might want to try that before purchasing a new sdcard.

managed to find the htc_fastboot.exe, but when I ran the cmd again, I got an error. It said error unknown when trying to flash the 2PQ9IMG.zip.

How do you flash to the 2.xxx

How do you restore to stock AT&T One X?

Hi,
I can't run my run and it's the right one, 1.85 for AT&T.
Can someone tell me the pre-conditions that are necessary for the RUU to run?
All I did was relock the boot loader, and then run the RUU.
Did I miss a step? I had Cleanrom on my One X Before.
Should I have reflashed stock recovery first?
Thanks

1. relocked/locked bootloader
2. drivers for the phone both adb and bootloader
3. check your hboot version, it has to be lower or equal to the one in ruu
4. windows if you gonna run the .exe ...not flashing the zip using fastboot
optional:
1. supercid if you want run other carrier's ruu
2. downgrade... the firmware version number...many conditions apply to this...not gonna explain...
give us the error...so we can direct you better.

Here is the file that I am using: RUU_Evita_UL_Cingular_US_1.85.502.3_R2_Radio_0.17.32.09.12_10.86.32.08L_release_262092_signed
Is that right? I have HBOOT-1.09.0000 on my phone now, Radio 0.17.32.09.12, opendsp v28.1.0.32.0504, emmc-boot Apr 2 2012, 21:08:24
I have wiped my entire OS, that is, I formatted my 10gb disk accidentally, so I've got no OS. I ran the RUU...and it says that I am going to move from 1.85.502.3 to 1.85.502.3; Then I see erasing....which goes ok, then it just says "sending....." for over half an hour. That's it.
Can I try to download the new RUU that was released a few days ago? http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...ers-remapping-options-and-maybe-closing-root/
OK, so now I do not have an OS on my phone at all anymore. How do you recover from that?
I can no longer put even a cleanrom.zip onto my sdcard in order to re-flash that. I have cleanrom.zip on my sd card that I can see when mounted to the computer, but going into TWRP recovery doesn't allow me to see this file at all.
UPDATE: well, upgrading to the 2.20 version via the link from android police is all that I had to do. Go figure...
I just relocked my bootloader and then double-clicked the RUU. It worked as it is supposed to finally after wasting an entire evening...maybe my other version was incorrect or something (the 1.85 file that I had). Can't think of any other explanation.

Help with HTC Desire S (bricked)

OK, need a bit of help with a Desire S that can only get to HBOOT screen (vol down + power) otherwise it's just a white HTC screen.
Phone is S-ON. HBOOT 0.98.002.
I've tried Revolutionary.io's guide to convert to S-OFF but I just get 'Waiting for Device'. Tried uninstalling HTC drivers then installing again without luck, disabling firewall and AV, still no luck. Kinda given up on that front.
Trying 'fastboot devices', device is recognised, but if I try to flash a recovery ROM from fastboot I get an 'out of memory' error.
I don't know if USB debugging is enabled or not (how can I tell & enable from HBOOT if not)?
I thought about going via HTCDEV and their method, but my HBOOT is at the wrong version (can I upgrade it to V 2.000.2?)
I'm really running out of options now....anything else I can try??? HELPPPP!
Run htc ruu exe file and don't close the windows, find rom.zip in windows temp folder, rename it to PG88IMG.zip ale copy to sdcard. Turn on your phone in hboot mode, rom will be flashed automaticaly.
Or just go to fastboot mode in hboot and then run RUU, should work if you have bootloader locker (relocked).

I couldn't open that, but thanks.
sorry, but I'm really not getting this. I'm looking for a RUU to flash a recovery ROM. When I went to HTC dev, there were all the ROMs for all the different carriers. I don't know what mine is. I tried downloading one for Vodafone, unzipped and searched for RUU.exe but there isn't one.
I need to get to this RUU.exe but dont know how.:crying:
what is a recovery ROM? anyway, people over here at the DS forum has already extracted the radio, Hboot and ROM of official ICS. search around...

I had a bit of progress. I downloaded the latest 4.0 RUU util from HTC Dev, ran it, extracted the ROM.zip and renamed it to PG88IMG.zip, copied it up to the SD card, rebooted the phone into FASTBOOT and the phone recognised it and started installing.
Wahey, I thought, that's it I've cracked it, but then it gets stuck on Updating the bootloader. Stuck for nearly an hour. Tried twice and different SD cards...same thing.
Is this because I'm still S-ON and bootloader is locked, or do you think my internal memory is fried?

Absolutely irrelevant. He's not flashing anything himself, he's executing RUU which can flash everything.
OK, so how do I enable USB debugging if I can only get into HBOOT? Is there a FASTboot or ADB command that can do it? I think that's what's stopping Revolutionary.

[Q] S3 Villec2 OTA update

I've got an HTC One S [s3]. CID is HTC__622 Asia HK
I have unlocked bootloader, TWRP recovery and superSU loaded as well as Rom Manger
Tonight there is an OTA update available. So I want to use it. I downloaded it and
ran command: fastboot oem lock
and tried to run the update. It just keeps booting into my fastboot menu.
I heard that I need to install stock recovery tfor this to work but I don't know where I can find it.
I do have a reovery_signed.img file that I saved from somewhere that is 5,957 kb. Not sure if I flash that if it would give me stock recovery.
Can someone give me a direction to go. I have spent last 12 hours just reading stuff and still don't know what to do.

The problem is I didn't take a backup before I unlocked my bootloader and flashed twrp recovery so I don't have a stock recovery to go back to.
The RUU for HTC__044 has a different CID and won't work on my device unless I can extract just the stock recovery from the RUU without having to install it. Is that possible?

What you have to do is
1. Flash stock recovery
2. Lock your bootloader
3. Enter fastboot and run the RUU for your phone
Your phone will then be just as it was when you bought it and then you can run the OTA. Make sure you find the right RUU for your phone. I have been searchiing for one for days and couldnt find it. Hope this helped

Where can I find stock recovery for HTC One S c2?
How to lock bootloader?
THANK YOU!
I have a question.
I already flash 4.1.1 via OTA and use some bloody init.d script for R/W system, that doesnt work and gives me reboot after I enter into supersu app.
My question is... how can i flash 4.1.1 again (i wanna clean system, just for better feeling.) If Im using TWRP recovery? Because, ota file doesnt contain stock recovery as RUU does and I didnt find any ruu for 4.1.1 CID_032 | villec2.
sorry, for my bad english.

Maybe a stock recovery of JB would be enough.
Hello guys,
Try this:
Step 1: relock the bootloader (start your phone in fastboot, open cmd, got to folder where are fastboot files, type "fastboot oem lock" )
Step 2: find your desired stock jb or ics online. http://filesdownload.net/showthread.php?70-HTC-One-S-(-RUU_VILLE-)-(-RUU_VILLEC2-)
Step 3: connect your phone to the pc in fastboot (make sure you have the htc drivers installed).
Step 4: run the RUU or stock file as an exe. An installation guide will follow, just follow it through.
Step 5: Now you are in stock ROM
It should work after this!
On my HTC One S [S3] , CID HTC_032 works
splanet.info has something interesting
At least ota is there for htc__622

After I locked my bootloader and tried running the OTA update I tried a few things that didn't work.
But what did work for me was when I unlocked bootloader again
And used Hasoon's Toolkit for One S
and reflashed the recovery file. I used the recovery_signed.img file (5,957 kb) that I had saved from when I was rooting it the first time and renamed it to a one word name per Hasoon's instructions, then flashed it.
Then I relocked bootloader and did a factory reset and ran the OTA update and it worked.
I was lucky that I had that recovery file saved. Still not sure where I got it from. But one thing for sure is that it was hard to find a RUU file for my CID. Hasoon's toolkit does have links to a website with a list of RUUs on it but mine wasn't on the list.
If you want me to email you my signed_recovery.img file send me a pm with your email address and I'll send it.

I have downloaded the file and connected the phone to my computer and copied file to my sd card. I am using Astro file manager. Once I go to the recovery mode and select apply update from internal storage, it doesn't allow me to proceed further and my phone gets rebooted.
I think there is some problem in copying files to the internal storage and it is not reading from the sd card.
My phone is unlocked and unrooted.
Suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Could be a bad Download. Assuming that phones never been rooted, it should work.
I think the option to install is called install from phone storage though and not internal storage.
In your bootloader it will show if it's locked unlocked or relocked and it will show if it's s-on or s-off. Assuming you never rooted it and you bought it brand new, it should be fine but if you bought it used or it was rooted at some point you could be setting yourself up for a brick.

you know where you boot to before selecting recovery to go into recovery? thats your bootloader. it will give you all that info at the top of the screen.

no. locked is better.
youll want to check if its supercid though just in case.
download fastboot if you dont have it already,
boot to bootloader, select fastboot. plug in your phone. fastboot should change to fastboot usb
open a cmd prompt in the folder fastboot is in by shift right clicking within the folder window and selecting "open command promt here".
then type fastboot oem readcid. then paste in here what it says.

Hi,
This will revert back to factory setting so please backup all your personal file.
If S-ON need to Relocked bootloader. on fastboot mode with command "fastboot oem lock"
Download RUU Hongkong E8 for kitkat from here : RUU Kitkat HK
Connect your phone to your PC.
copy RUU file on your phone storage and rename it to 0PAJIMG.zip
go to bootloader and phone will ask to update RUU.zip
Follow instruction on your phone
After flashing completed you can go to setting, about and check update.
Download Lollipop OTA.
Update lollipop OTA.
Revert back all your file,setting,etc
Done.
Tried with fastboot but it didn't work
I've tried to flash this RUU with fastboot and int failed with error "32 header error".
Then I tried to copy to SD but allways give's me an error disconnecting the phone.
I have to copy to SD or Phone memory?
Mi S is OFF and bootloader is unlocked. Do I need to relock?
Thank you very much in advance

You can try copy on sdcard via card reader, rename it and slot in again SD card to your phone.
Relocked better.
Make sure you use correct ruu.
