I've got an HTC One S [s3]. CID is HTC__622 Asia HK
I have unlocked bootloader, TWRP recovery and superSU loaded as well as Rom Manger
Tonight there is an OTA update available. So I want to use it. I downloaded it and
ran command: fastboot oem lock
and tried to run the update. It just keeps booting into my fastboot menu.
I heard that I need to install stock recovery tfor this to work but I don't know where I can find it.
I do have a reovery_signed.img file that I saved from somewhere that is 5,957 kb. Not sure if I flash that if it would give me stock recovery.
Can someone give me a direction to go. I have spent last 12 hours just reading stuff and still don't know what to do.
Htc_asia_hk Stock Recovery File
Does anyone know where I can find the stock recovery file for my One S [S3]
Its Htc_asia_hk the CID is HTC__622 ???
The beginning of the file name should look like this:
RUU_VILLEC2_U_ICS_40_HTC_ASIA_HK_
Flash stock recovery
Lock bootloader
Then run the ota update.
Sent from a HTC
Try This RUU in fastboot

The problem is I didn't take a backup before I unlocked my bootloader and flashed twrp recovery so I don't have a stock recovery to go back to.
The RUU for HTC__044 has a different CID and won't work on my device unless I can extract just the stock recovery from the RUU without having to install it. Is that possible?

i also have htc__622 CID and i didn't make backup before fiddling with the innards.
What you have to do is
1. Flash stock recovery
2. Lock your bootloader
3. Enter fastboot and run the RUU for your phone
Your phone will then be just as it was when you bought it and then you can run the OTA. Make sure you find the right RUU for your phone. I have been searchiing for one for days and couldnt find it. Hope this helped

I have the same problem, so I have few questions....
Where can I find stock recovery for HTC One S c2?
How to lock bootloader?
THANK YOU!
I have a question.
I already flash 4.1.1 via OTA and use some bloody init.d script for R/W system, that doesnt work and gives me reboot after I enter into supersu app.
My question is... how can i flash 4.1.1 again (i wanna clean system, just for better feeling.) If Im using TWRP recovery? Because, ota file doesnt contain stock recovery as RUU does and I didnt find any ruu for 4.1.1 CID_032 | villec2.
sorry, for my bad english.

You cant flash OTA trough TWRP, thats my problem also. My CID is 032 as yours. If you find RUU JB, send me the link please!

Maybe a stock recovery of JB would be enough.
Hello guys,
Try this:
Step 1: relock the bootloader (start your phone in fastboot, open cmd, got to folder where are fastboot files, type "fastboot oem lock" )
Step 2: find your desired stock jb or ics online. http://filesdownload.net/showthread.php?70-HTC-One-S-(-RUU_VILLE-)-(-RUU_VILLEC2-)
Step 3: connect your phone to the pc in fastboot (make sure you have the htc drivers installed).
Step 4: run the RUU or stock file as an exe. An installation guide will follow, just follow it through.
Step 5: Now you are in stock ROM
It should work after this!
On my HTC One S [S3] , CID HTC_032 works
splanet.info has something interesting
At least ota is there for htc__622

After I locked my bootloader and tried running the OTA update I tried a few things that didn't work.
But what did work for me was when I unlocked bootloader again
And used Hasoon's Toolkit for One S
and reflashed the recovery file. I used the recovery_signed.img file (5,957 kb) that I had saved from when I was rooting it the first time and renamed it to a one word name per Hasoon's instructions, then flashed it.
Then I relocked bootloader and did a factory reset and ran the OTA update and it worked.
I was lucky that I had that recovery file saved. Still not sure where I got it from. But one thing for sure is that it was hard to find a RUU file for my CID. Hasoon's toolkit does have links to a website with a list of RUUs on it but mine wasn't on the list.
If you want me to email you my signed_recovery.img file send me a pm with your email address and I'll send it.

I think you unlocked your bootloader with htcdev, if yes you need to extract the boot.img of the ROM and after flashing the ROM you have to flash the kernel (boot.img) with fastboot, but next time search the forum, this has been discussed many times

Run the ruu without attached device, don't close the the window.
Search inside your temp folder for the rom.zip, copy it to another folder and close the window.
Inside the rom.zip remove the hboot.img and recovery.img.
Flashing with bootloader:
Rename it to PG88IMG.zip.
Put it to the root of your sd.
Reboot to bootloader and follow the instructions.
Delete the pg88img.zip, otherwise it will try to flash it everytime you access the bootloader.
Flashing from recovery:
Put it to your sd.
Wipe all partitions except sd.
Flash it from recovery.
....extract the boot.img from the rom you flash via recovery and put it somewhere in your computer like C:\Android
then when you are in recovery open cmd connect your phone using the cable provided and type adb reboot bootloader
your phone will reboot in bootloader.now type in cmd fastboot flash boot C:\Android\boot.img
then reboot your phone.

That's why the hboot.img and the recovery.img needs to be deleted
Without those he still would stay s-off and with the same recovery, just the system, radio and kernel would be reverted back to stock

Hi, I want to flash a development RUU, but everytime I try, I get Error [155]. This RUU is supposed to have 1.13.0000 bootloader version, but I don't know how to update from 1.06.0000 and if it may cause the error.
Any suggestion about it? Thanks in advance.
You're talking about ONE S, right?
Right, HTC One S
Well first of all is the chosen RUU compatible with your CID ?? If it isnt it will fail so you need to download one that is compatible, Or change your CID to match the one inside the RUU..
Secondly, If you haver done this and still get the error, Try to run the RUU from fastboot.
Oh and also, RUU requires a LOCKED / RELOCKED bootloader and sometimes stock recovery too !

Yes, I have the same CID that is inside the RUU.
Could you tell me how to run it from fastboot?
I'm trying almost everything I can (locked, relocked, unlocked, stock recovery...), even I'm trying now to update to the latest OTA_Ville_U_HTC_Europe_1.78.401.2-1.53.401.2 (now I have 1.53.401.2 from Orange Spain) as it has a firmware update (maybe hboot 1.13.0000?) what I think that can be one of the reasons why I can't flash the rom I need.
Thanks in advance!
boot into bootloader and connect USB cable, Select fastboot and then run the RUU on your PC.
Make sure bootloader is locked BEFORE running the ruu

Yes, it's something I've already tried. Another problem I'm trying to solve is when installing from stock recovery, cause it says sdcart can't be mounted...
What are you trying to install from Stock Recovery ?? you cant flash an RUU and all flashable zip files MUST be signed otherwise it will fail..
I also had the cant mount sd card error in stock recovery, But when i tried CWM i didnt.. Dont know much about how stock recovery works, I just know i dont like it lol
lol, me neither!!!
I'm trying to install a stock rom, so I am supposed to do it from stock recovery, that's the matter. But I can't do it because it can't mount sdcard. I'm getting crazy, but now it is something personal, between the phone and me!!! I'll try to be patient and find the solution.
Stock ROM ?? How have you obtained this ? has someone posted it in a flashable .zip file ? If so, You need to flash it via CWM Recovery THEN flash stock recovery through fastboot.
If the Stock ROM is a Nandroid you will also need to restore this using CWM Recovery. THEN flash stock recovery after.
If the Stock ROM is dissected from an RUU you will need to flash this via bootloader, BUT unless you have a S-OFF phone (which i doubt you do cause there is no S-OFF yet) It wont work.

Ok, it is the third option, and evidently, I'm not S-OFF. I had read a thread where they dissected this zip and I thought it was useful. Now I have found the RUU, I will try to install it. I've changed the zip and relocked it but I'm still finding Error [155]
Its useful if you are S-OFF, You just extract the ROM.zip from the RUU, Rename it to the phones model number, So in our case it would be PG40100.img ( i think) and then flash it in bootloader. However ignore this option as it wont work with a S-ON device...
If you still get the Error 155 message and you're positive you've done everything correctly, Maybe download the same / another RUU, Chances are it could have been a bad / corrupted download It happens to us all !
Ok, finally I solved it. I found original RUUs for HTC_Europe 1.53 and 1.78
Firstly, I changed my CID to HTC__001, extracted recovery.img from 1.53 RUU, flashed it, relocked the bootloader and installed the 1.53 RUU... and it worked!!! After that, nothing special to say installing 1.78 (hboot and radio updated!)

I have done exactly (!!) the same, but you know, I have Hboot in version 2.15. And I can run none of RUUs, because I think they are not compatible with this version of Hboot (And this is that Error 155 for me). Well, so what can I do for installing the Stock RUU to my One S ?
Hi all,
I want to return my phone to stock so i am trying to flash the original RUU but this does not work.
Do i have to relock? if so how is that done? through the adb command?
is it possible for to get locked written in bootloader as in some threads it says this can only be set to relocked, is this correct?
You can relock the bootloader using adb !
Boot into fastboot, Open a command window from your adb folder (shift and right click)
Type in: fastboot oem lock
That will relock the bootloader, RUU needs a lock bootloader ! There is no way to get **LOCKED** back !! Only **RELOCKED** But this shouldnt affect your warranty.
You may also need the stock recovery in order for the RUU to work, Sometimes you do sometimes you dont..

I assume i should flash this with fastboot correct? - done
If I wanna return to stock, after locking the bootloader, does it have to be the same version ROM I had initially? Or can I flash any version RUU provided it matches my phone model? Because I don't know what version I had when I bought the phone, I rooted and flashed CM9 straight away.
Hi all, I have some trouble to restore to a stock rom. I have a debranded HOS from Vodafone Spain. I did it helped by the famous Toolkit, so it was with the bootloader unlocked, with a CWM Recovery and then I applied a stock rom by CWM (1.73 about Vodafone to 1.53 but the WWE European one). But I still wasn't happy, can't upload it by OTA and I dislike to do it manually with each new version, plus backups, etc.
Then I changed the CID to HTC Europe (HTC__001); and now the system detects a new version to update it, but when it restart to apply it appears an error during the process, something like "assert failed....... (Status 7)"
I tried also by the RUU, and this way gave me the error 155.
Somebody know if this way is available?. Change the CID and then apply the respective RUU?
Something else... I remember in my old Desire to restore everything, like factory, placing a rom into a "SD" with a especific format (depends of the model), like PG88IMG.zip. Somebody know if is possible for this newer model?
Works perfectly !! thanks for the tuto ! you saved us !

I was actually wondering about the issue of having to flash the boot.img if restoring a TWRP backup. I assumed that it would have to be flashed via fastboot, since boot.img is obviously needed but can't be accessed by recovery on the 1.14 hboot. But haven't seen that discussed or confirmed here. Doesn't actually apply to my One X, since I'm on the old hboot. More just wondering academically.
Seems like the OP has taken the route of running the RUU. But if you ever need the boot.img for a stock ROM, many of the stock ROMs are posted in Development. So you can download the right one, and pull boot.img from it.
Yes you need to flash boot.img when restoring a backup on hboot 1.14.
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda app-developers app
Thanks for the tips guys, I also used this just now to unroot my phone and return it to bone-stock. I used the All-in-one tool to relock the bootloader and got the same error message that OP got, but after rebooting into the bootloader it said Re-Locked. Then downloaded HTC Sync and the 2.20 RUU and ran it. Took 15 minutes total and my phone looks stock, unless of course some busybody at AT&T decides to check the bootloader.
I am returning my One X and buying a One X + tomorrow morning.
EDIT: Oh and in case anyone is confused, you DO NOT need to flash boot.img in order to flash the 2.20 RUU.
i heard people say that they flashed the twrp boot backup in fastboot and it worked the same as flashing the boot from rom.zip in the ruu. i prefer the ruu method for going back to stock, just seems more official imo.

Download Ruu from this link --> https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1wIRrVQawd5rD-t9VKPQ-SdRK20RcJVZhwD7lhmPIK8w/edit#gid=0
Important: Download the right ruu for your device CID
Rename the Ruu with 2Q5510000 and copy on sd card.
Reboot into Download mode
Your device will automatically detect the RUU zip. This procedure erases everything on your device
Once the file has been flashed, your phone will reboot into the stock ROM.
Thanks, it worked did it with the fastboot method fastboot flash zip zipnamefile.zip
But i see 1 error in the log but i think it is not that prio FAILED (remote: 90 hboot pre-update! please flush image again immediately )
