OK, need a bit of help with a Desire S that can only get to HBOOT screen (vol down + power) otherwise it's just a white HTC screen.
Phone is S-ON. HBOOT 0.98.002.
I've tried Revolutionary.io's guide to convert to S-OFF but I just get 'Waiting for Device'. Tried uninstalling HTC drivers then installing again without luck, disabling firewall and AV, still no luck. Kinda given up on that front.
Trying 'fastboot devices', device is recognised, but if I try to flash a recovery ROM from fastboot I get an 'out of memory' error.
I don't know if USB debugging is enabled or not (how can I tell & enable from HBOOT if not)?
I thought about going via HTCDEV and their method, but my HBOOT is at the wrong version (can I upgrade it to V 2.000.2?)
I'm really running out of options now....anything else I can try??? HELPPPP!
Run htc ruu exe file and don't close the windows, find rom.zip in windows temp folder, rename it to PG88IMG.zip ale copy to sdcard. Turn on your phone in hboot mode, rom will be flashed automaticaly.
Or just go to fastboot mode in hboot and then run RUU, should work if you have bootloader locker (relocked).

Thanks. Noobish of me, but where do I download the relevant RUU file from? I don't know what carrier the phone is locked to by the way.
Download original ics rom here : http://dl4.htc.com/RomCode/Source_a...401.2_20.76.30.0835_3831.19.00.110_275068.zip

I couldn't open that, but thanks.
sorry, but I'm really not getting this. I'm looking for a RUU to flash a recovery ROM. When I went to HTC dev, there were all the ROMs for all the different carriers. I don't know what mine is. I tried downloading one for Vodafone, unzipped and searched for RUU.exe but there isn't one.
I need to get to this RUU.exe but dont know how.:crying:
what is a recovery ROM? anyway, people over here at the DS forum has already extracted the radio, Hboot and ROM of official ICS. search around...

I had a bit of progress. I downloaded the latest 4.0 RUU util from HTC Dev, ran it, extracted the ROM.zip and renamed it to PG88IMG.zip, copied it up to the SD card, rebooted the phone into FASTBOOT and the phone recognised it and started installing.
Wahey, I thought, that's it I've cracked it, but then it gets stuck on Updating the bootloader. Stuck for nearly an hour. Tried twice and different SD cards...same thing.
Is this because I'm still S-ON and bootloader is locked, or do you think my internal memory is fried?

Absolutely irrelevant. He's not flashing anything himself, he's executing RUU which can flash everything.
OK, so how do I enable USB debugging if I can only get into HBOOT? Is there a FASTboot or ADB command that can do it? I think that's what's stopping Revolutionary.

Trying to help people is a good thing but not before trying the stuff yourself, knowing the differences, how it works and WHY it should be done

I think you unlocked your bootloader with htcdev, if yes you need to extract the boot.img of the ROM and after flashing the ROM you have to flash the kernel (boot.img) with fastboot, but next time search the forum, this has been discussed many times

Run the ruu without attached device, don't close the the window.
Search inside your temp folder for the rom.zip, copy it to another folder and close the window.
Inside the rom.zip remove the hboot.img and recovery.img.
Flashing with bootloader:
Rename it to PG88IMG.zip.
Put it to the root of your sd.
Reboot to bootloader and follow the instructions.
Delete the pg88img.zip, otherwise it will try to flash it everytime you access the bootloader.
Flashing from recovery:
Put it to your sd.
Wipe all partitions except sd.
Flash it from recovery.
....extract the boot.img from the rom you flash via recovery and put it somewhere in your computer like C:\Android
then when you are in recovery open cmd connect your phone using the cable provided and type adb reboot bootloader
your phone will reboot in bootloader.now type in cmd fastboot flash boot C:\Android\boot.img
then reboot your phone.

That's why the hboot.img and the recovery.img needs to be deleted
Without those he still would stay s-off and with the same recovery, just the system, radio and kernel would be reverted back to stock

I ROM is not installed, when you switch displays in FASTBOOT! PD58IMG.zip can not install says in red letters Fail-PU ...
in my opinion I have with HBOOT 1.20.0000 problems. because I started to install automatic ROM ICS 4.0 with the file PD58IMG.zip, there is not the end everything was installed, some written as FAIL-PU.

tell me how to update? I'm from Russia, it is very difficult to translate and communicate. I ask how you can in a simplified form.
Give us some background info. Was your phone rooted in the first place? Did you follow the path s-off then clockwokmod recovery then root then supercid? What did you do before this happened? Did you try to install the latest RUU 3.06 where hboot 1.20 comes? We are happy to help but it's not easy trying to solve something without some info

phone s-off, root, super cid, it all started after trying to flash (Sensation ICS 3.06.401.1 - Rooted PG58IMG.ZIP) all the checkboxes have been installed in the firmware partition except system and even some I do not remember. After re-flashing, all the ticks became Fail-PU.

so, first, did you check the md5 checksum to see if your download wasn't corrupted? Some times I use winmd5sum portable because I don't need to install it in my computer. http://download.cnet.com/WinMd5Sum-Portable/3000-2381_4-75099291.html
You noticed that you are flashing a rom for the sensation not the sensation xe (this one is the 401.101) some differences are discussed here but is an advanced topic.
if everything is ok this is how you install a pg58img.zip using the bootloader
place pg58img.zip in sd card
turn off phone if you are not sure the phone is really off take battery out and put it back
press and keep holding VOL DOWN
press and keep holding POWER until you enter the bootloader
pg58img is automatically detected and you are asked if you want to update
after installation of all packages is finished reboot your phone
I was checking the pg58img and seems to be the RUU: the firmware update plus the rooted stock rom and the custom recovery.
although s-off and supercid are persistent and not modified with this firmware update your hboot 1.2000 is now locked and you may not be able to use fastboot commands or install some packages like radios (maybe that's happening to you when it says fail-pu)
to regain unlocked hboot you can use the tools at htcdev to unlock hboot 1.20 or you can download the hboot 1.17 onlocked from here
before you do that don't forget to delete the pg58 img that you hace in your sd card and then place this one in its place.
cheers

it failed when trying to flash the recovery which is custom and no stock. try flashing the firmware update only without recovery or rom. you can find it here, that's what i did first flashed the firmware only and after that a rom (android revolution 5.0.2 currently)
anyway, I was talking to some other guys and if noting works you can download a shipped RUU (there's a collection here). Run the exe file and you'll finish with a stock gingerbread system. You'll have to root and install custom recovery and the usual again. If after that you still feel like trying ICS install the firmware update only, not the one you tried.
cheers
Yet another example of someone jumping blind into something they don't understand. If you don't know how to reverse the rooting process you should not even consider rooting in the first place.
There should be some sort of test before rooting information is given out - would stop n00bs getting themselves up **** creek

Okay, i wanted to download the ELEGANCIA ICS ROM but before i could i had to download a FIRMWARE PACKAGE(or just firmware). So i downloaded the Firmware from 3.32 RUU which is for the ELEGANCIA ROM...By the way, I DID THIS BEFORE I INSTALLED the ELEGANCIA ROM(i hadn't downloaded it yet..elegancia rom) I followed the instructions how to flash it. It said it would tell you what to do next..so i did it. Went into Recovery and flashed through sd and installed the ZIP file and when it asked if i wanted to udate it i pressed Yes...and then this is what HAPPENs NEXT.
It ask if i want to update and I do and then it says:
Parsing...[ SD ZIP]
[1] BOOTLOADER - Ok
Update Complete...
Press POWER to reboot.
So i press power and all it does is: BOOTS up and then TURNS OFF
It continues to do that...I believe it's called BOOT LOOPING.?
I pull out the battery and press VOL. Down plus POWER at the same tiime and it takes me back to the WHITE SCREEN and I see FASTBOOT, RECOVERY, FACTORY RESET, SIMLOCK and IMAGE CRC but does NOT let me choose. It automatically goes to HBOOT.
I have to pull battery or it will continue to BOOT itself on and off again. Even with the phone off, I connect it to my usb connection on my laptop and my device does not show on my laptop. Both the usb connection and usb cord are working properly.
That is my BIG PAIN in MY ASS right now!!
Can someone please help me.?
You will have to make your phone Super-CID or download the correct firmware package that fit your CID.
Super-CID makes you able to flash any firmware package etc.

You stated that your ROM was GB and that's not supported on the 3.32 F/W.
Download your ICS ROM and mike's SuperWipe script from the ARHD thread.
Copy them to the SDcard via the PC and a USB <-> microSD adapter.
Delete the PG58IMG.zip file on the SDcard.
Boot the phone into Bootloader, get into Recovery, SuperWipe and flash the ROM.

Don't bother restoring to stock, waste of effort.
Read my previous post.
1. Anyway, did the ICS F/W update work ?
2. Is the PG58IMG.zip file still on the SDcard ? If so rename /delete it.
3. Get your chosen ICS ROM and mike's SuperWipe script onto the SDcard.
4. Go into recovery and run the Superwipe script then flash the ROM.
Steps 2 & 3 you'll need to use a PC to do these with a USB <-> microSD adapter.
I am assuming that there wasn't a typo in your original post in that you actually have HBOOT 1.27.0000, this is ICS ONLY firmware and GB won't work on it.
BTW what recovery have you got ? CWM or 4EXT ?

I am assuming that there wasn't a typo in your original post in that you actually have HBOOT 1.27.0000, this is ICS ONLY firmware and GB won't work on it.
BTW what recovery have you got ? CWM or 4EXT ?

+1 10 char. I also do not suggest to flash an RUU.

You also have a locked version (1.27.0000) of the HBOOT, I suggest at some stage installing an unlocked version (1.27.1100) from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767

I just tried it and the phone is ON NOW BUT it is just on the White screen with the Green HTC letters. It has been on for 15 minutes already...By the way, I DO NOT have a microSD adapter. I did it by getting into CWM and going to Recovery and going into mounts and then i mounted it and was able to install it like that. Is that the reason why it is still on the White HTC screen? Do I pull the Battery?
Another thing I still haven't flashed my ICS Rom because when i DID Mike's SuperWipe it did it's thing and just automattically went to the White HTC screen.
No, there is NO TYPO, that is exactly what it says. I believe i still have CWM and I remember tthat I had 4ext to.

So precisely what have you got on the SDcard at the moment ?
PG58IMG.zip ?
SuperWipe.zip (or what ever the name is) ?
ICS ROM "zip" file ?
Edit: If you used the superwipe script you have no OS on the phone and will NEED to flash an ICS ROM through recovery. It shouldn't have gone to the white HTC screen just returned to CWM. If you don't have an ICS ROM on the phone's SDcard you can try adb pushing it or possibly use another device that has microUSB capability.

What I have now is Superwipe.zip and ICS ROM.zip. I deleted the PG58IMG that I had on the SD Card before I did the SUPERWIPE.
I pulled out the battery and got into recovery and installed from sdcard and I went to install ICS ROM and it started but then it said ABORTED. Tried again and said the same thing.
Should I try another ICS ROM?
What about not having the PG58IMG?

It seems that your ics ROM is corrupted. Did you check the md5sum of the ROM zip file?

I'm at a loss I've been trying for hours with not luck at restoring my phone. there is no backup. no roms will seem to boot. my SD card was wiped. i can boot into recovery and see my SD card and everything. and when trying to revert to a stock rom I use "fastboot getvar version-main' to find what version i need but it comes back blank. i have tried relocking and running a ruu with no luck
I have it unlocked
CID is stock with telus
hboot is 2.14

I'm going to guess you're S-ON. Also, Good thing Telus doesn't make a 3.17 RUU or you'd have a shiny paperweight. You're messing with dangerous things and have no idea what you're doing.
To get a rom to boot, flash it and then extract the boot.img from the rom and
fastboot flash boot boot.img
then S-OFF once you get a rom to boot so you can RUU in the future if you need to
Still stuck in the boot loop at the white htc screen. does it matter the rom? as well when flashing the rom it comes back successful however says there is no md5 file found

the rom should not matter.
Did you check the MD5 after downloading?
There is never an md5 file within the rom so it will always say that. You have to manually check the md5 with an md5 checker.
What rom are you flashing?

Ack true I forgot no supercid *facepalm* im rusty.
You should ba able to boot it. Did you check the md5?
checked and tried a different rom (slimbeam) and still stuck in boot loop. does it matter the order in which i flash the boot.img and the rom in?
It shouldn't matter what order you flash them in, before or after the ROM is fine. Can you elaborate on what you were doing to the phone before all this happened?

I was having this issue then I got it to boot into recovery mode so I figured i got it fixed but its stuck in a boot loop now with no rom
Ok but what caused all this to happen? Phones don't usually just get stuck in that situation on their own.

exactly the same way as the post says relocking the phone to go back to upgrade the hboot to flash roms that required them.
Ok, but you need to be more specific if you want help, linking to someone else's problem isn't really ideal. I'm gonna have to guess that you relocked the bootloader and ran an RUU? Which RUU exactly did you use? What's the filename?
Sent from my Evita
relocked the phone through fastboot. then tried to run this ruu RUU_Evita_UL_TELUS_WWE_1.91.661.4_Radio_0.18a.32.09.01_2_10.94.32.20L_release_266645_signed.exe to update hboot to 2.14 which is where it is now. however like the other forum my install failed and only got half the update. used the fix in the other forum to get it to at least recovery. where i discovered the my sd card had become corrupted fixed that issue and everything seem to be working in recovery when i went to flash a new rom. attempted to flash new rom and now all i get is a boot loop
Ok, the RUU only partially succeeded? You might need to try running an RUU again in that case, as that's probably what's causing your issues at the moment.
Sent from my Evita
tried running it again and get error 155 but for telus there is only 1 ruu and one ota
You'll have to research what error 155 means and try to rectify the problem.
Sent from my Evita
its says its the wrong ruu however there is only this ruu and an older ota for telus
ERROR [155~159]: IMAGE ERROR
One of these error messages will appear when you use the incorrect RUU to update and the image file size is larger than the Flash ROM size. In this case, download the correct RUU version and try again.

you cannot run that RUU because you're hboot is from 3.17 and that's an older RUU you need to be S-OFF to run an older RUU. You can try running the OTA for 3.17
You will need to download the 3.17 telus ota zip. Extract the recovery.img, copy the 3.17 OTA zip file to the phone, flash the recovery img in fasboot, boot to recovery, it will say cant load sd card, this is normal as it's looking for an external sd card of which there is none. select install from phone storage or install from internal storage. If you pick install from sd card it will error as there is no external sd card. then select the telus ota zip file.
I dont see and recovery.img in the file. there is a boot.img though
hi guys, ill try and keep it as brief as poss.
Phone was rooted working fine, dropped the phone and cracked the screen so sent for repair. Repair shop returned it back to stock :/
Left phone stock and working fine for a couple of months, accidentally let phone fully discharge and think it damaged the battery. Bought a new battery but the phone just boot loops. Can get into Hboot but when i choose recovery it just starts boot looping again. In a panic i flashed a 3.33 firmware but made no difference. Can someone give me a step by step how to sort? thanks!!
Phone says :
-firmware- 3.33-
pyramid pvt ship s-off rl
hboot 1.27.1100
emmc-boot
Im guessing its also locked because when i do the oem lock in command prompt its saying device is locked. cheers all.

If i turn the phone on it just goes to the htc logo and then reboots. If i hold power + vol down then pick recovery it does the exact same boot loop. thanks for your help!! :good:
