WiFi unreliable/constantly dropping signal and disconnecting - Moto Maxx Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Note: Thread cross posted here.
Phone: Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo aka quark XT1254. Sunshine rooted, TWRP 3.1.1-0 for recovery.
Problem: WiFi constantly disconnects from network. Several seconds is the longest it has been connected before dropping. Issue persists on multiple WiFi networks as well as the following ROMs:
AospExtended-v4.0-quark-20170406-1925-OFFICIAL.zip
AospExtended-v4.2-quark-20170511-1731-OFFICIAL.zip
RR-N-v5.8.4-20170815-quark-Official.zip
crDroidAndroid-7.1.2-20170815-quark-v3.7.zip
Usually using open_gapps-arm-7.1-nano-20170817.zip
Tried flashing Clean_modem_status.zip followed by flashing MCG24.251-5-5+ModemFsg.zip and SU4TL-49_bl-radio_twrp.zip (while restoring from a backup of my original bootloader).
Any suggestions would be more than welcome. Thank you!

You've done almost everything I would suggest. Here's two more suggestions.
1) disable 5GHz band and use 2.4GHz only . 5Ghz is notoriously weak and you will get a lot of disconnections. Yes, 2.4GHz is slower but also much more stable -- and the signal goes for longer distances. 5GHz has much shorter broadcast range. I disable it on all the phones I touch. Once I disable it on my friends' phones, they no longer complain about Wi-Fi.
2) See if your Aggressive Handover setting is enabled and disable it. May be in Dev Options. That also causes Wi-Fi drops.

[Q] [Help Required] Wifi Problem, but nothing seems to fix this.

For a month or so I've been having wifi problems with my phone.
It's one you often see discussed:
either A)
wifi scans, picks up presence of network [with excellent signal strength] then, on click, doesn't try to connect just changes to say out of range.
Alternatively B), it simply doesn't see the network at all despite me being 2 feet from the router.
This happens with my home router [we have two, neither work] and with what seems like every other router too.
I am currently running the 6.1.1 version of ARHD [with android 4.0.3].
I can provide any information that might help, I'm not at all bad with this sort of stuff normally, although not collosally experienced with android.
Thank you for your time.
PS. Steps already tried to fix problem:
Power cycling router, installing different ROMs,scripted wifi fix for 6.1.1, changing wifi channels, switching router to just b and/or g, wifi fixer app, removing authentication, using different router, changed radio, changed kernel, and possibly more.
Please any advice would be fantastic, I struggle to use this phone without wifi.
Try the wifi with your sim in a differnet phone - when that works choose a different rom make sure you go back to a stock RUU before the new rom
I've never been able to connect to a wifi network on my sensation. I've tried it with the stock 2.3.4 ROM, and with all of the ARHD ROMS.
I can see wifi networks, and enter the network password, but it'll never connect.
So I'd be interested in any solution for this problem also.
Have you tried on different routers? I can only assume the routers channel is set to one that the device won't work on? Have you changed your router settings before
Sorry my bad only read half,
Sent from my Sensation XE
OK what is your devices mac address showing up as? Maybe it's the same as another device on your network?
Have you done a full wipe of your device?
Does your bluetooth work? (same antenna as wifi)
Has it ever worked?
Have you tried disabling all your routers security?

[Q] wifi and mobile network keeps disconnecting

Hi
i'm having some issues with the radio on my Nexus 5, it startet after i upgraded to 5.0.
I did this by first deleting all user data (i use stock fw, no root), then by flashing the factory images with fastboot.
What happens is that wifi keeps disconnecting very often, like every 2-3mins.
if i turn wifi off, the same dropout happens with the mobile network..
I thought this was just a bug that would be fixed in later releases, so i waited.
5.0.1 OTA popped in and did not fix my issue, so i did a factory reset (read that in 5.0.1 android resets more thoroughly).
Still it keeps disconnecting.
now when 5.1 was released i flashed that image (didn't edit the flash-all.bat file so there was another wipe), it still disconnects.
Can anyone help me diagnose this problem (i can try to do a logcat?) can i flash the old radio from 4.4 safely?
is there anyone having the same problem like me?
I don't have quite those symptoms, but I do have a Wi-Fi problem, ever since 5.0. My Wi-Fi connection drops at random times. You can see the drop outs on the battery page, and it just stops whatever network activity was happening at the time. If I'm using Chrome, I know it's going to fail when the progress bar goes to about a cm then stops. If I toggle Wi-Fi off and back on, or sometimes if I simply wait for about 30 seconds, it works again. With 5.0.1, I was using the 4.4.2 radio, which was a lot better, dropping the connection a lot less often. I hoped 5.1 would fix it, and it's better, but it still happens sometimes.

My problem has, though it is worse on some networks. It's worse on my own home router, for example, which is an Asus RT-N66U running Merlin firmware. It happens less often here at work, but it has happened here. Both of these networks are 2.4GHz only. It happens just infrequently enough that I can live with it, but it's annoying.

My N5 WiFi is always rock solid on baseband M8974A-2.0.50.2.22 on 5.02 Euphoria.
I connect regularly to an Asus RT-AC66U router @ 2.4GHz running Merlin . So I doubt its' router related.

Well, i only use wifi at home so i'm not sure.
I've been testing with wifi off at home to rule out wifi, but it keeps disconnecting on mobile network as well.
It doesnt happen during calls, just while browsing etc, using mobile data.
It also keep switching between LTE (with low signal -117dB) and Hsdpa (better signal, -117) so i tried locking it to use only GSM/CDMA, that didn't help either.
Now i tried setting up my old router to try anoteher wifi network, no luck..
Guess i must try kitkat radio, see if that works any better
edit: that didnt work either

I've been trying to isolate this problem forever, and I'm starting to think it is something about my router, after all. Could you possibly post the settings from your Wireless General and Professional tabs in the Merlin firmware?
I now have a perfectly stable phone. Nexus 5 with 5.1.1, rooted, TWRP recovery, Xposed alpha, otherwise stock. I found the source of my Wi-Fi disconnect problems: it was my Belkin WeMo switches! I unplugged them, and I haven't had a disconnect in over a week. I haven't experienced a single other problem with this setup. (knock wood)

[Q] Nexus 5 Lollipop Wifi Drops - Major Headache

Ever since I got Lollipop on my Nexus 5, I have had major wifi issues. The wifi will randomly drop and only come back if i switch wifi on and off. Over the course of 2+ months, this has gotten increasingly aggravating. This happens both at work and at home.
Symptoms: while using my phone, all of a sudden the network stops working. This can be in the form of games, web browsing, or anything else. All of a sudden there is just a network timeout. If I disable wifi, the cellular network has always worked fine (so long as I have reception of course).
Things I have tried:
1. Flashing stock with a full wipe
2. Flashing a CM12 nightly with a full wipe - I just tried CM12 in the hopes that they may have had some form of bugfix. I had the same issues.
3. Setting the phone to 2.4ghz only.
4. Disabling PMF setting in WIFI config file.
5. Downgraded to Kitkat. I just flashed CM11. I havent used it too much yet but it seems like it is having the same issue.
I am at my wit's end. Is there anything else I can try? Please help!
At first CM11 seemed to help, but after using it for longer it is exhibiting the same WIFI issues. Any suggestions? My phone is quickly approaching paperweight territory...

Kyocera Duraforce upgrade to Lollipop?

Is this phone which I just purchased able to be upgraded to Lollipop ROM. I did complete the Kingo Root but that is all so far. I am having WiFi issues with the stock ROM,keeps disconnecting from my Asus router. Also, I only have a 300megbyte data package for this phone and was wondering if At&t is able to disable my WiFi on the service, sure seems strange that all of a sudden my phone wont stay connected to my Home Wifi .it just started dong this 2 days ago. Thinking maybe they can cut my WiFi off and trying to make me upgraded to more data by making me use up my small amount by using the 4G signal. They just sent me a email stating that I am already at 75 percent of my 300mg and I could purchase more date if I wanted to. One more thing, TWRP does not seem to support my phone since I could not find it in the list when trying to install there app. Any help would be appreciated.
I had a similar issue when using 5ghz WiFi and ultimately had to switch to 2.4ghz and leave 5ghz off... Some things to try (under Settings -> WiFi -> three dot menu -> Advanced)
Set "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" to "Always"
Unhcheck "Avoid poor connections"
Set the frequency band explicitly
Uncheck "Wi-Fi optimization"
I only had partial success with the above, WiFi still goes into fits on occasion but overall the stability on 2.4ghz, especially with the screen off, has improved.
As a side note I've started a super thread for the DuraForce here (link) for those of us with the device to share experiences and fixes. I'm hoping that enough of us can band together where issues like this can be solved faster. I've seeded the thread with everything I've been able to put together and any additions are welcome.

December 2020 security update is now available

Hi,
Just received it, but only 3,6 MB. So I guess none of the bugs have been fixed.
Cheers
Add another email account and Customize your Pixel still present
Updated today, did usual reset through recovery, my daisy works fine. Atm zero annoying tips in settings.
Will the December update fix the multitasking bug on Mia2 lite ???
So I just updated to V11.0.16.0 via fastboot.
I am still having the same problem (since my first upgrade to Android 10 about a few months ago) with my Wi-Fi. Every 20-30 seconds, Wi-Fi connection is lost. Then after a few seconds of waiting, it is established again. Then after 20-30 seconds, Wi-Fi is again lost. It goes on like that, endlessly until I just deactivate Wi-Fi and use mobile data... but this cannot be the solution, don't the Dev's have to notice something is wrong with Wi-Fi??
Is anybody else having the same problem with Wi-Fi?

Before upgrading to Q, on P, zero wifi' s issues ?
Maybe something' s changed in your area, new wifi signals could interfere with your device.
Have you checked other devices, like a pc or other mobiles ?
If your router is dual band you might try 5ghz, daisy works fine in my experience on 5ghz regardless of android version.
Did you try a reset from settings or recovery in these months in search of improvements ?
Personal curiosity, why did you use fastboot for updating your device ?

I only have a 2.4GHz router, but the problem is happening no matter which channel I choose on the router setup (i.e. the frequency within the 2.4GHz band).
We have several Wi-Fi devices in this household, including Wi-Fi repeaters to strengthen the Wi-Fi signal around the house... end user devices include multiple notebooks that use Wi-Fi access, a Smart TV and I also use another smartphone as a backup (Nexus 4) and neither of these devices does have any problems with the Wi-Fi.
Also, my brother is using the same phone the same way (with fastboot flash every time there is an update available) and he is having the exact same problems with Wi-Fi on his Mi A2 Lite.
Also, the Wi-Fi issues are the same when I am at the library and connected to a different Wi-Fi. So in my opinion it is unlikely that there is a problem with the Wi-Fi at home.
Around the time the Android 10 update became available, I started activating Bluetooth on my device 24/7. However de-activating Bluetooth has no effect and my Mi A2 Lite still loses Wi-Fi connection just as often.

Reset from settings only, but it should not matter because I am flashing all partitions every month, whenever an update is available and the problem is happening as soon as I completed the flash and started the device for the first time.

I am using Magisk to gain root access to this device. There is a guide on XDA that I follow for doing the update via fastboot, so that I can continue using Magisk. As far as I know, OTA update still fails when any of the partitions has been tampered with, for example by installing Magisk and patching boot.img.

If the wifi' s issue began for both devices, yours and your brother' s one, after you decided to use magisk on stock rom it could maybe be the monthly flash procedure the reason of such problem.
Have you tried to flash a custom rom and check if issue continues to occur ?
Personally, as reported, i' m using 5ghz wifi without any issues, zero disconnections on last stock december build.

I think I was not as clear in the post above. We have both been using the Mi A2 Lite with Magisk and Android 9 since December 2018. So we used Magisk to root the phones right when we got the phones. We had no issues with Wi-Fi on Android 9 with Magisk. Only when we updated to Android 10 in spring/early summer 2020, we encountered the connection issues.

I did not do that because most Custom ROMs that I found for this device have problems on their own with some features, and I like having a nearly stock Android experience. However, I get your point that this might be a good opportunity to check whether or not this is a problem with the official Xiaomi ROM or the Mi A2 Lite's Wi-Fi modem, i.e. a hardware problem maybe.

Could you check if your Mi A2 Lite works on 2.4GHz Wi-Fi without disconnection issues? From my experience, 5 minutes of testing would be enough. Usually I see the first disconnections within 30 seconds after I activated Wi-Fi (2.4GHz) and disabled mobile network.

Checked rn, 10 mins on 2,4 ghz, wifi works fine, zero disconnections.
About custom rom, you could try los17.1 from Reujea0 or crdroid from Opal. Imo los and crdroid roms are very close to stock experience. Moreover, i recently read on los17.1 thread that dev would like to switch to next release, los18, anytime soon.
And yeah, you should avoid it isn' t an hardware failure.

Thanks for checking this out and getting back at me. I did some further research, as I found out that another user on mi.com (the official Xiaomi forums) reported that when updating to Android 10, he had problems with switching between WiFi's (switch took a long time, download/uploade rate on WiFi very slow, https://c.mi.com/thread-2854872-1-0.html).
I then disconnected the repeaters on my network and found out that WiFi on my Mi A2 Lite is working without any problems, as soon as the WiFi router is the only WiFi host and no repeater is used to extend the range of the WiFi network. Maybe there is a problem when the device is handed over between repeater(s) and router within the same WiFi.
The Mi A2 Lite is my daily driver. As soon as LOS reaches official status, I will flash it on my device and try it out. For now, I will just continue using Mobile Data.
