Most articles about the Gear VR are saying that it will only be compatible with the Note 4.. I'm wondering if this includes the Note Edge since it is basically a Note 4 with the extra curved screen.
This is the only thing that is making me lean towards the Note 4 rather than the Edge, wouldn't want to give up on all the VR goodness when the time comes!

I believe it will not be compatible, not the same size.
That's a shame..
That is indeed unfortunate.
I was initially all for the Note Edge until I read up more on the Gear VR and saw it was only compatibile with the Note 4. I'm slightly torn between the Note 4 and Note Edge just because of this but after reading that the Gear VR is pixelated, I'm still slightly leaning towards the Note Edge since I currently have a Note 3 and don't see enough to make me want to upgrade directly to a Note 4.
It's ironic because the Note Edge is being promoted as the flagship phone for the Galaxy Note series, but won't have the Gear VR compatibility. I'm hoping they release a revised Gear VR just for the Note Edge in the future or at least some kind of attachment/mod to allow it to be used instead of a Note 4. Samsung should really rethink this especially since the Note Edge users will have to pay more(for less compatiblity).
Did samsung confirm it though?

Yea thats what i was thinking.
i dont care for the Gear. But just looking at reviews it would seem that the edge wouldnt fit in the Gear.

I don't have the link, but I did watch a video of a samsung rep showing off the VR and he did confirmed that the VR is only available for the Note 4 and not the Edge.

Well, I believe they were saying that particular Gear VR is only compatible with a Note 4 exclusively... but Samsung hasn't said if any devices might become compatible later, or if a different Gear VR (remodeled) might be release to accept different devices... I'm keeping hope!
Unconfirmed
My local (Texas) AT&T store manager said the Samsung store rep told him that the Edge WOULD be compatible with the Gear VR. Take that with a grain of salt, because I got it second hand. But there you have it.
that would be awesome if true!
I remember Samsung saying during the launch event that Gear VR was only compatible with Note 4.
For now Samsung clearly says that Edge will not work with VR

I heard that, Note Edge need the other bracket to VR. So We need some time to release.
I always need some time to release. Well, full release, at least.
Hope this will be compatible.
Is there anyone who had either S6 or M9 before the Note edge?
If yes why did you chose the Note edge and do you regret it?

I have had the M9 and S6 edge, and I keep finding myself going back to the Note edge, M9 there wasn`t anything really spectacular about it it was good phone, but nothing special about it, S6 edge it was ok it, its fast, but but the edge screen on it is limited to what you can use it for, also I love having the ability to have removable battery and micro sd card , and the edge part on the Note Edge is way more usable for me, has tools bar for stop watch and etc. and you customize the edge bars, can have different edge bars with your apps organized the way you want them. I just sold my T-mobile S6 on ebay and bought another Note Edge brand new on swappa, the S6 edge its a really nice phone, but I think the Note edge is a better all around phone, but it all depends on what your going to use it for.
The camera was a let down on the M9. Personally I liked the size and the features as compared to the s6. And the edge will leave you wanting. I pine for the note 3 but muscle memory made me re-activate the note edge once again.
And you are not afraid the Note Edge 2 will make the actual Note Edge "old"?
I had an S6 for 2 weeks, while I loved the camera I hated the absence of BT autoconnect, what I love in my M9 is that Car app is my daily car audio now!
Dunno if the Note Edge has the same trouble as S6 for BT autoconnect?

I dont have BT issues.. i stay connected to my lg infinums. They really are awesome.. i also have a HK Onyx that i use all the time.. According to Samsung, the Note Edge is already old and forgotten. As for the note edge 2. Im seriously disappointed with how they went about eliminating the expandable memory and the removable battery. I am also disappointed with the lack of development and updates.. i seriously will consider this phone to be my last samsing if they go the same route with the edge 2. I believe the 2 last great devices that left the samsung plant were the Note Edge and the Note 3. Innovation can go only so far before we start to realize that we dont need it.

Where did you see the Note Edge 2 will not have a sdcard slot?
Btw is it easy to scratch the metal line and edge part of the screen?

Yes, very easy. I got an incipio case, 20 bucks on ebay. Its the only case I found that won't scratch the metal polish. Articles here and there. Bgr, phonearena, sammobile.

Geez I will keep my M9 then!
I had the S6 and didn't like it
Hi. I´m thinking on getting a new phone. What i use more beside the call´s Is this the camera and the musid app.
Is this the one i should buy or is there a better option right now? Would you still buy yours?
Im thinking of getting the regular s6, because of the form factor. Not a huge fan of phablets...
thanks.

The galaxy s6 edge is still the best phone on the market. I would recommend it over any other phone. With a hundred dollar price cut it is even better. I bought the edge variant because it feels more compact and has a slightly larger battery. I recommend you go for that one.
After almost five months using my S6, I still recommended any time now.
no, the only reason i won't buy it is because the NOTE 5 is out....and for me it's tiny bit better because of the screen size and battery....that's the only reason....as a phone the S6 is the closest to perfect after the note 5...
S6 is still best in the market
S6/note5/edge+
Those are the best phones nowdays

The s6 is one of the few phones with solid updates and lots of features that are useful. Now if the Sony phones have an IR blaster and multi-window feature then I would recommend those when they come out and not have any daily driver breaking flaw.

I just purchased a Gear S because I liked few features more on it (sort of prefer the phone like style vs circular phone, auto dimming, bigger screen) but I know it's last generation now and some things aren't/won't be supported soon (like number sync).
Even though I also never used Samsung pay, it would have been a cool/neat way of making payments which Gear S1 can't. There's also IPX68 which is always a plus. Not sure how I feel about rotating bezel.... I guess it's cool, sorta like my note edge's side (cool but I won't miss it on upgrade to S7)
I'm not really having second thoughts (maybe I am because I'm asking this lol) but I want to see what you guys think of the upgrade from S1 to S2 4G
Most reviews I've seen compared S1 to S2 which doesn't have a speaker and that was the main complaint. S2 4G takes care of that. Some also complained of the cheaper feeling plasticy structure of phone. (Would have certainly paid little extra for the classic 3G if they offered in US)

I upgraded to the S2. Actually keeping both watches and just switch out every so often. I wish the S2 face was a little bigger than it is but other than that I really like it. I would like to be able to install a metal band like I did on my Moto 360, hopefully some 3rd party vendors will come through.
I actually never had S1 but I'm happy with my Tmobile S2 4g

I wish 3G S2 classic was offered in the states...
I think I'm going to stick with the S1 and see if the promotion for S2 is around like right now (buy any galaxy phone and get a S2 for free)
if not, I might just buy it outright we'll see.

Or AOSP 8.0
By the time we actually get it (2018 probably) most of us who haven't replaced our phones yet will probably have done so by then.

You'd be surprised how long people keep their phones, most keep them for 2 years, others even longer... I've had it for like a year or so now and I really don't see much of a reason to replace it yet. I'm probably going to hold off until the S10 or whatever is out by then.

Not this kid. I doubt we'll see O until mid to late next year. I'll be on another phone by then. These companies like Samsung take waaaay too long to get new versions of the OS out. I truly believe they do it on purpose so people upgrade to a new phone sooner because they want new features and the new OS. Think that's why I'm moving to iOS after I'm done with this S7 Edge.

No don't go to iOS D: there's nothing to do there! Flash a custom ROM! But seriously you're probably right, or they just don't care about updating the phones
I aim to keep my s7 edge until it dies on me. I also thought about switching over to Apple, but i really don't want to spend that much money on phones anymore. On Android you can easily get a phone for 100-200 bucks, and still do everything you did with a "high-end" phone. If you need a new iphone for whatever reason, it will always be expensive. So my next phone will either be a phone with guaranteed support from lineage, or just a pixel 2xl when the price is reasonable.
I am still very fond of my s7 edge though. Nothing is missing from this device, and the support is better than i thought.

Yes, the S7 Exynos actually has pretty good ROM support, something I didn't expect when I bought it, since it has an exynos chip... This phone can really handle pretty much everything I throw at it, the only thing that would make me want to buy a new phone is the bezels... I mean come on, you can't deny that the S8, G6 or Essential phone look gorgeous
They do look gorgeous, no doubt about it. But still not that much, that i would shell out a huge amount of cash, just to do the same things only on a new screen. If money is not that much of a concern, or you are willing to sell your phone and finance your new device this way, then all is good. Me personally, i don't see that much innovations anymore, and i have to admit at the moment i really do not need that much more. A few years ago, it was a total different story, switching from a HTC Touch HD (Windows Mobile 6.0) to an iphone 4. Now that was a huge step in the right direction. But now? I don't think that getting a S8 or S8+ would give me the same level of astonishment and satisfaction i had back then. But i am still very much excited what the future holds in store for us, but it will take longer i reckon.
First world problems...
You're totally right, pretty much everything has reached the limit of what we need... 4gb ram is plenty, so is the SoC... The resolution is high enough to basically not see pixels. Camera's are getting so good that it's hard to tell the difference... The only thing I would really want to buy a new phone for is Slimmer bezels, a bigger battery and front facing speakers... That's all I really need... And a headphone jack ofcourse
The only thing we gotta wait now is an AOSP 8.0 rom to pop-up into the Exynos Devs forum hehe
Yes the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge will receive Android Oreo but the question: will they receive the latest user interface "samsung experience"?
Sweet a year from now we'll be able to try it!
To be fair there are next to no changes anyway. I have it on my 6p. This is one update I'm kinda "meh" about honestly.
Also, I agree with you guys about upgrading phones. I love this phone, I can't see trading for a long time. I came back to android after a short stint with an iPhone 7 plus (was a great phone mind you) that I sold to buy this one and still get back $500 on top of it. I'm 100% happy with this phone.

I own both the s8 the s8+ and trust me... they are not very practical (s8 is somewhat usable)..
yeah they look fantastic, but that's about it... that's the reason I'm still using the s7e, you just can't deny the usefulness of top and bottom bezels..
not to mention the awful fp placement..

I've held an S8 (non plus) and I do agree, having bezels is nice in landscape mode so you can actually hold the phone... the fingerprint scanner position seems usable on the normal S8, but not preferred... can't imagine it being usable on the S8+ or the just plain ugly and big Note 8
Yea, its a good thing to know.
