I have a Samsung Galaxy Gio on the Telus network. The phone is rooted and unlocked. (was originally with Bell)
I am unable to send text sms messages with Data Packets (aka Data) ON.
IF I turn Data Packets (Data) OFF I can send no problem, as well as when I put WIFI on (Which also deactivates Data)
When I attempt to send it simply says "FAILED"
Things I have tried:
I have contacted my service provider, they have tried to trace my failed SMS messages and cannot see them on their side.
I have tried changing and re-entering the SMSC #.
Performed a factory reset
Reflashed factory ROM
Placed a Rogers SIM in the phone and was able to send without issue
Placed a Bell SIM in the phone and was able to send without issue
Placed my SIM in 3 other phones (Google Phone, BB Bold, Iphone 3GS) and was able to send without issue
Tried Apps - GO SMS PRO and Handcent
It seems that there is a compatibility problem with Samsung GIO and the Telus network.
All other features work flawlessly, I can receive texts and surf without issue.
Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Found a person on another forum with the same phone from the Bell network unlocked, working on Telus with both DATA and OUTGOING SMS Text messages.
So I know its not all Samsung Gio phones that are effected.
So either my phone has a unique glitch or the network where I am isn't acting the same way.
Any help/suggestions are appreciated.
Did you ever consider that your SIM card could have a problem?
Tried my SIM card in other phones and works fine, can send texts with data on.
Does that rule out the SIM card or could the sim card be defective only in certain types of phones?

Any other ideas on why Data would effectively block SMS Text messages from leaving the phone?
Are you certain you have sufficient signal?
Is it definately SMS and not MMS your trying to send?
Might be worth checking your APN settings.
Had you checked your message settings in your phone? Had you checked whether the service number in your phone is proper or not? It will be also an default if you don't enter proper messaging center number, it could be also an reason that your messages are to be shown failed.

I am certain I have sufficient signal. After receving a "FAILED TO SEND" while DATA is ON I can turn data off and click and hold on the message and hit RESEND and the message sends fine.
Definately SMS - MMS works fine.
I have checked APN settings.
What I did notice about the APN settings is that Telus incorporates both data and MMS into 1 APN. My friend on Rogers has 2 separate APN settings for MMS and Data however I don't see how that would affect anything.

Yes I have auto-updated the Service #, manually inputted it in both decimal and hexidecimal, and changed to a backup service # that Telus provided for me.
Still unable to send.
I am having the same issue. I have this phone with a Telus SIM. Help!

I did not test this myself. (I have data of cose i have no internet for my phone) But sometime my phone wont send a sms. It keeps waiting. And i see the signal is gone. After i restart the phone the message is sms send and my signal is back.
Firware issue
I work for a tele communications company and we are seeing an increase of this situation for the gio as of Monday on our networks. It is the firmware that is preventing the phone from sending the messages. The problem has been flaged and submitted to samsung/android. They would have to perform an upgrade to the software on the devices.
Not all phones are affected the easiest way to check if your phone may have this issue is to check the plan on the phone. Under settings in about phone, bottom of the page, if you get GINGERBREAD.MUGKG3 than it will be this issue.
This is not a network related issue but firmware. It may be an inconvienence to swith data off and on but sit tight and wait for an update. Hopefully Samsung/Android find a solution soon.
And dont tell me to use the search box. If you know a better way to search be my guest and let me know. Maybe I dont know the terms used that will yield good search results.
It seems to me that every one abandoned the TP2 before ST = (StraightTalk) started the Bring Your Own Phone Program so this may have never been discussed yet.
So I got the voice, SMS and data working. But my phone is still trying to connect to sprints server to download the pictures people sent me via MMS. Where do I input the MMS settings ST gave me? The only setting I could find was for APN and when I updated that the data started working. The rest of the fields are not there with the APN.
I am using the AT&T sim from Strait Talk. I have the Sprint TP2 with my Straight Talk sim card in it. Set to GSM only. The worst part is EDGE speed is slower then Sprints 1X.
A nice guy help me fix this here at this link in post 2 and 3. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28468462#post28468462
Sorry for the long story. Ok I have a custom CM9.1 R8 ROM for this phone. Im from australia and while the coverage isnt as good as in the USA I had no problems here working via the Vodafone Australia network and sim card. I could browse the web, send/receive mms, calls etc was fine. Yesterday I switched over to the Red Bull mobile australia network because it offered unlimited txt and calls and more monthly data and was cheaper than Vodafone. The Redbull mobile network also borrows the towers from Vodafone so its basically the same network.
Anyway I can send/receive txts and make calls via redbull just fine but I cannot browse the web and cannot send/receive mms. I have set the apn settings according to the below redbull apn settings help tutorial: http://www.redbullmobile.com.au/help-support/internet-settings/
I have set both the mms and wap apn settings but I still cannot browse the web and send/receive mms. I contacted the redbull service desk and all it involved was basically reading out and confirming the spelling of the apn. Which was all correct I did no typos. The analyst then asked me what mobile phone I have and they said we dont have this device on our records and that the redbull mobile network blacklists some devices. Is this possible? It didnt sound right to me because I can send/receive txts and make calls just fine so clearly its not blocked. I get the feeling they didnt know how to fix it and just cbf'd me and decided to end the call and get me out of there. Can someone help me with this issue?
Also if I select restore default apn settings for some reason it puts my old vodafone apn settings, not sure if there is a cache I have to delete? If I go to settings/wireless & networks\mobile networks\network operators and try to search for available networks in australia nothing appears. This has never worked since I put the CM9.1 rom, on the stock rom I did used to get a selection of networks. Im wondering if Im cached still on the voda network?
Well web browsing and MMS are both done over the mobile data (3g/4g) so if you don't have one you won't have the other.
If possible, try doing a clean flash of the latest, r11 if you wanna stick with cm9 or some other ROM. Don't put any APN settings and see how it does with just the red bull sim. If it doesn't, try the APN settings again.
I've seen APN settings not sticking properly so that could be it, try the above steps
Sent from my MyTouch 4G Slide using xda app-developers app
The MT4GS is basically an HTC Sensation from a motherboard standpoint. If Red Bull allows the Sensation, the MT4GS should work as well. Especially since the provider is using the same network you previous provider uses.
Hastily spouted for your befuddlement
I am using a Tmobile MVNO Solavei and I am thinking of downgrading to talk and text only. I am wondering if I will be able to send photos once I drop data service?
If not possible is there an app that can do this over wifi and send the pics to my contacts' phone numbers as well as receive?
I have trouble connecting to a certain website using the Straight Talk AT&T BYOP sim card on my Nexus 5. The website is Chatango and whenever I try to login into my account on LTE, I receive error message net::ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE using the Google Chrome web browser app. I also downloaded the Chatango mobile app from the Google Play Store and I receive the same error message. However, I only receive this error message when I'm on LTE or 3G. If I switch to Wifi, both the Chatango app and connecting to the site on Google Chrome works without any issues. I am running Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.
To troubleshoot this problem, I took an activated sim card directly from AT&T (not from Straight Talk) and put it in my phone and I was able to connect to the site without any error messages. I even took an activated sim card from T-Mobile and I was still able to connect to the site. It's only with the Straight Talk's AT&T mobile connection on LTE or 3G where I receive this problem. So I thought it would be a carrier issue with Straight Talk. I called their customer support and they claimed that they could not help me with the issue. They claimed that it is a "Google" problem and that there is nothing they can do, despite the fact that the site works on any other carrier that I tried it on and it works on Wifi. Can someone help me with this? I am also using the latest APN settings according to what is presented on Straight Talk's website.
