Wifi with no internet... - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

Hey all,
I have a hootoo tripmate Titan. It's basically a battery with a WiFi radio so you can stream your media from a HD to your device.
There's no internet, but it keeps asking me to sign into the network and a pop up appears (usually for portals) with the trip mate's gui .
I ran some network diags and I'm not getting designated an IP address, therefore not able to access the hard drive.
I ran diagnostics like HE.net and I can't ping the device while connected. On my old LG and Samsung, it would give me an option to connect regardless there's no internet, but that doesn't seem to be the case with the Pixel. Any advice is much appreciated.

Sorry one more. Apparently I can't edit posts and add images via the Android app.
This screenshot shows I can access the device but only through the portal window.
Logging in that screen just takes me to the device GUI...that's it. Still same problem

Okay I figured it out. On the captcha portal, I needed to click on the menu and choose "use network as is."
Thanks for your time!
Edit....
Sorry spoke too soon. It dropped it's connection again and I can't interface with the device. Any advice.... thanks

Internet Sharing with the at&t rom

I feel like a newb asking this question, but the Tilt doesn't have Internet Sharing like the roms for the 8525. The Wireless Modem utility doesn't work worth a chit. I've search for an hour to find a cab for installing Internet Sharing but I can't find it. Surely some of the masters here has come up with one.
Or could I just grab the exe file off my 8525 and run it with any "installing"?

SWEET! Thanks!!
Advantage? So far it is the best option for tethering my laptop. PDANet worked like a charm, but with Internet Sharing it's not need anymore.
I was trying to get the Tilt to work like a modem for a couple hours last night and it would disconnect every time it got to "Registering computer on network". I saw that Internet Connection Sharing (post 30) and gave it a go. Tethered like a charm, 768kbit down ~125ms latency.
The file \Windows\Internet Sharing.lnk contains this text:
41#:MSINTERNET_SHARING?:intshruiapp
And I just copied it to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs and can run it from there or the shortcut I created in the HTC Home plugin. You don't have to do anything on the PC to use it either, except have ActiveSync (I think it requires even less because activesync automatically disconnects when this is in use).
I cant get ICS to work on the Tilt. I get "cannot connect for unknown reason" error in ICS window. Any ideas?
Is your "Network Connection" set to MEdia Net? I have two things on my list, that and "AT&T ISP GPRS". If I try that one, it tries to connect a bunch of times then dies with the unknown reason thing.
It gave me that same message if I end-tasked ActiveSync on the PC, so I'd say make sure they both say connected before trying to connect the internet sharing.
Yes, its set to Medianet. Do I need to be connected to my laptop for this to work? I didnt think so.
swweeet i got it working thanks everyone

help with tethering
Hello everyone I did some of the applications last night on trying to setup my tether to my tilt but its not connecting. I could not find internet sharing to change those setting on download needed cab for it. My phone is set media net and have the correct ip and subnet gateway so what am I missing??
It seems AT&T was pretty successful in killing Tilt Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) with the introduction of 6.1. It was seamless until the upgrade, now it is not. Lotsa complicated workarounds been posted here for the past year and a half. I wish someone who is doing it successfully would post a set of step by step instructions. We novices keep sorting through all these posts on the subject and if there is light at the end of the tunnel, it needs a new bulb!! With data plans getting more and more lucrative for the carriers, tethering is getting more and more important, anyone got a simple answer?

App to close all conections - app to switch from wap to internet?

I hate to be a "sniper" and try to hit the so very small connection icon with my finger every time I want to close my active connections.
Wheen changing connections from wap to internet I have to navigate to several menus - absolutely idiotic - and by no means a one hand operation.
Can't anyone do something about it?

Googled/ found/ installed end result is a can see WiFi yet "Data conection" is somewhere down below - if one should compare it to a rectangular 320x240 screen. Try scrolling but it does't work. Help kindly appreciated.

Have you seen that one? I'll just check it out. 3G should be on screen.
EDIT:
Only ActiveSync button is completly outside screen. I hadn't chance to test all features, but looks good.

Hi man and thank you for your help. Unfortunately this is not I was looking for as from the pictures attached the one shortcut that I need is missing i.e. "data connection". I am looking for a comm manager with at most 4 tabs like data conection, bluetooth, internet sharing, and wifi. Any customised version already on the forum?

I have the same problem. Just trying out an LG KS20 - my first non-HTC device - and I'm surprised that the device can't close one connection (e.g. internet) before opening the other (e.g. WAP) on its own. My HTC devices used to manage that fine. KS20 needs manual close of the connection - anyone know how HTC devices manage that?

Not on the forum, but have a look at phoneAlarm from pocketmax.net. It's a today plugin that does hundreds of other things too (esp. manage phone profiles), but most skins for it offer buttons to (de)activate data connections, bluetooth (including visibility and A2DP toggles), WIFI, ActiveSync etc.
Have a look at the skins section and you'll see.

[Q] HTC Media Link HD "Internal Error / Update Failed"

Hello,
I have bought a HTC Medialink HD to show my Familie my Holiday Pictures.
The Firmware is: 5.19.100....
I read a lot if articles before evertime I read that it will be possible to present your stuf via dlna from all your devices.
Today I connected everthing and went on 192.168.3.1 and try to setup my WIFI but no way to do so, i get everytime an internal error,
I have used 2 different AP but no way.
Im also not able to use the internal AP from the MediaLink if i try to show some videos with the Wi-Fi Media App there is no device listed.
I'm not sure but it feels that my device is Broken....
I have no HTC device to test the 3 finger wipe but I'm more or less sure that this will also not work.
Is there a way to upgrade the firmware via USB?
Or did I make something wrong?

Same situation here also. I am able to connect my HTC phone using 3-finger guesture; however, whenever I try to connect my Nexus7, I get stuck at the point where I need to choose the Wi-Fi on 192.168.3.1. My Wi-Fi connection is not on the list. Even if I try to enter manually and click on "Save", it always says "Update Failed/Internal Error".
Is there any setting that must be done to the router?

Hom, seems like an Firmware Error. Any Idea were/how to get the old firmware or hack this crap...
Honestly, I guess the best would be to quickly sell this thing and get a Chromecast as soon as it is in stock again.
Will do mostly the same and is cross-compatible with your future android phone and your Chrome browser.
Plus, it's very cheap ^^

Not yet, but I guess the chances that google will sell it in Germany or at least in AT/CH are not bad.
There is even a landing page on google play DE for it:

Hope so
I picked one up from AT&T store at a very affordable price but encountered the same "internal error" issue when I tried to connect this little box with my home Wi-Fi network. After a few days of researching, a forum in Taiwan provided some workaround and here is the steps to connect your HTC Media Link HD (HMLH) to your Wi-Fi network and enjoy DLNA support as well.
1. Reset (HMLH) by pressing the reset button for more than 5 seconds
2. You must grab a phone with Sense 4.0+ (will not work with Sense 5+ or above)
3. Connect your phone with Sense 4.0+ to your local network first
4. Perform the 3 finger swipe up action from your sense page
5. Complete the set up process
6. Wait for 5 minutes then connect to the Wi-Fi network that you named during the set up process from another laptop with network password 1234567890HTC
7. Open browser and type 192.168.3.1
8. HMLH automatically picks up your home network without entering the security key
9. Exit the mirroring mode from your Sense 4+ phone by swiping 3 fingers down
10. The TV screen should show that HMLH is connected to your Wi-Fi network
ok, so here is another easy solution for the internal error with the HTC Media Link HD (DG H300)
1. Firmware version on device after update: 5.52.103.1
2. Connect device to TV
3. Press reset button on device for 5 seconds to reset
4. After reset device will show Default Name on TV screen
5. Turn on WPS config on your router, either through Router admin UI or by manually pressing WPS button (WPS = Wi-Fi Protected Setup)
6. Press once the reset button on device (you need to do this within 2minutes of pressing the WPS button on router)
7. Device will automatically go to configure screen, progress bar will indicate configuration
8. The medialink HD device will now be connected to your WiFi network through your router

Need Help getting Into My Wifi

Okay so here's the dilema my dad changes the wifi password after we argue and I'd love I if I could find a way to get the password without him knowing.
I'm on an AT&T Samsung Galaxy S5 And i am rooted
I usually use his laptop when he's not around and get the password but that's not an option for the time being. Thanks in advance.
The Wifi Type is WPA2 PSK
The router is a Netgear
The modem is a Motorola
P.S. I do t have access to a computer but I do have physical access to the router and modem and I'm new to the forum please let me know if I posted this in the wrong g place.
See into wifi manager that the Router has (Wps Available)
Then there is a Solution for it...
Just Go near the Router and press the Wps Butten and Connect from mobile...
And you done
I tried many times...
Sorry for bad english

I just assume that you have multiple computers at home that are connected to your network. I've come across some programs that I used to recover our network password when I was younger, all you need is a usb drive and those programs. I believe the site was called nirsoft or something .
!!Those programs may be identified as viruses as!!

If your router DOES have WPS, then this is a good quick and clean call and should be sure to remember to click "thanks" on Xpid3r's post.
If it DOES NOT have it, then give us a little more info:
1.)when he changes it, who and what does he update other than his laptop? - sometimes people are easier to bride, sweet talk, or otherwise crack than devices... Would mom, brother, roommate, friend etc. get the updated password? If not, what other devices get updated? anywhere the password is saved is a potential entry point. For example, if YOU were keeping the password from HIM... Then he could get it from your galaxy s5 NOTE:I can't post a link, because I'm new here. But if you google "recover wifi password from android" there is a walktrough from hubpages that I've used
2.)Could you borrow a friend's laptop to hack the password? - If so, there are plenty of tutorials around for that (though admittedly that is not a SHORT learning curve)
3.)How visible is the router? I rented a room once and shared Wifi was supposed to be included in the rent. The landlord was a real tool though and, among other issues, he wouldn't tell me the router password so I could do some port-forwarding etc. It got annoying very fast. But he had his router hidden away for aesthetics. So I connected my own router (from my last place) to one of his router's wired ports and then had my own wireless network through the house with its own SSID. I lived there 4 more months and he never noticed it. If your dad's router is tucked away you could probably do the same. Or if you cannot access his laptop BECAUSE he is out of town, then it wouldn't have to be hidden. You could do that type of setup in plain sight temporarily and just take it down before he comes home and get the password from his laptop then. (Tip: if you do this disable DHCP server or YOUR router so they don't fight over who gets to assign IP addresses)
Good luck to you. Let us know how it turns out

anyway thanks .but this is not what i asked
Might I suggest you ask your IT guy to log you in? But if you don't want to, because they won't allow it, then I would likely not do it. They will surely catch you.
But I see you posted this in an appropriate section now, http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/help/how-to-share-wifi-nw-phone-connected-to-t3285537
