I feel like a newb asking this question, but the Tilt doesn't have Internet Sharing like the roms for the 8525. The Wireless Modem utility doesn't work worth a chit. I've search for an hour to find a cab for installing Internet Sharing but I can't find it. Surely some of the masters here has come up with one.
Or could I just grab the exe file off my 8525 and run it with any "installing"?

SWEET! Thanks!!
Advantage? So far it is the best option for tethering my laptop. PDANet worked like a charm, but with Internet Sharing it's not need anymore.
I was trying to get the Tilt to work like a modem for a couple hours last night and it would disconnect every time it got to "Registering computer on network". I saw that Internet Connection Sharing (post 30) and gave it a go. Tethered like a charm, 768kbit down ~125ms latency.
The file \Windows\Internet Sharing.lnk contains this text:
41#:MSINTERNET_SHARING?:intshruiapp
And I just copied it to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs and can run it from there or the shortcut I created in the HTC Home plugin. You don't have to do anything on the PC to use it either, except have ActiveSync (I think it requires even less because activesync automatically disconnects when this is in use).
I cant get ICS to work on the Tilt. I get "cannot connect for unknown reason" error in ICS window. Any ideas?
Is your "Network Connection" set to MEdia Net? I have two things on my list, that and "AT&T ISP GPRS". If I try that one, it tries to connect a bunch of times then dies with the unknown reason thing.
It gave me that same message if I end-tasked ActiveSync on the PC, so I'd say make sure they both say connected before trying to connect the internet sharing.
Yes, its set to Medianet. Do I need to be connected to my laptop for this to work? I didnt think so.
swweeet i got it working thanks everyone

help with tethering
Hello everyone I did some of the applications last night on trying to setup my tether to my tilt but its not connecting. I could not find internet sharing to change those setting on download needed cab for it. My phone is set media net and have the correct ip and subnet gateway so what am I missing??
It seems AT&T was pretty successful in killing Tilt Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) with the introduction of 6.1. It was seamless until the upgrade, now it is not. Lotsa complicated workarounds been posted here for the past year and a half. I wish someone who is doing it successfully would post a set of step by step instructions. We novices keep sorting through all these posts on the subject and if there is light at the end of the tunnel, it needs a new bulb!! With data plans getting more and more lucrative for the carriers, tethering is getting more and more important, anyone got a simple answer?

Hi all,
I've been searching countless forums for a solution to my problem, and I was not able to find a solution.
I purchased a T-Mobile SDA(USA, aka: HTC Tornado) with the belief that I will be able to connect to my hiome WIFI.
I tried connecting with original rom(T-mo SW 1.9.19.16) and I was able to connect to my access point, and I aquired an IP address, and everything, but internet explorer and Opera Mini browser was not able to connect to the internet. IExplorer keeps on "locating" then times out.
I am able to connect to a HotSpot location through wifi and also my G (GPRS) indicator is always on.
My guess is that TCP/IP use is somehow blocked for anything but T-mobiles HotSpots, and otherwise it tries GPRS(I do not have data plan.)
What I mean is that they restrict me to connect to GPRS or Edge in general, unless there is a HotSpot operated by T-Mobile.
Anyways if someone has an idea, please help me out, since I've spent countless of hours(not quite countless, but more than 48 hours for sure) on this, with no luck.
Please, anything, idea, reg hack, I accept anything.
Thank you.
PS: Now I'm running an iMate sp5m rom (i-mate_SP5m_WWE_1.6.331.6.exe) and nothing changed....
I'm sure this has come up before (try searching) but make sure your internet explorer isn't set to use WAP Network only.
Thanks for your reply...really appreciate it.
I was on a trip in NYC and I had a variety of WIFI spots, and to my very surprise I was able to get online through WIFI.
It seems that I still needed the iMate Rom, but my problem is my home wifi network.
It's weird since I enter my key and I get an IP, yet the connection is still not the correct one.
My next step is to look for a list of access points which have issues with SDAs, and if mine passes I'll start changing settings on my access point and go from there.
Thanks again, and if someone has a link to the list, I would appreciate it if it will post it.
And also if someone knows how to get rid of the GPRS indicator....
Thanks

If you're on WiFi, you should not be getting the G indicator; in fact, change it to E as it should be if on an Edge network (Cingular); look for a RegEdit to do that.
Re: your home connection not working. Are you sure you are on YOUR WiFi network, not a neighbors somewhere? If you have not changed your WiFi name to something that makes sense to you, I suggest you do that to be sure you are trying to connect to YOUR network. I have neighbors that have not changed their LinkSys names to something else, and there is no way for me to tell if I'm on theirs or mine unless my name is something unique to me and that I know.
Hello!
I'm new here, please bear with me... Also i'm norwegian, which i will use as an excuse.
Well, to the point...
I currently have vjgraces WM6 v3.7 on my Tornado (qtek8310).
In my SMS inbox the left softkey is "delete", but in WM5 the left softkey is "new". Is there any way to change this?
Also, in messaging "app", is there any way to add Hotmail as a option there, as I could in WM5?
Jarle
edit: these are not critical problems, I can learn to live with it. I just got MSN to work over wifi also, so the hotmail-issue is not so critical. But i would be nice to have the e-mails on the phone tho.
Also, anyone got a good notepad-app to recommend?
edit2: Got a lot on my mind today...
IP Phone. Does it ever work? In the Settingsmenu in Comm manager it doesn't work to select ip phone, and i cant find it in start->settings->connections.
Is this option disabled? Would be great to call for free in wifi-zones.
Sorry if a lot of my questions are noob and such, but as i said, im norwegian.
Also, (lots of alsos here today), before, with WM5, if I had the phone connected to my computer with USB, I could surf on the phone using the computers internett connection. Now I cant, why?
i can help you with the internet thingy but not on the other stuff,if you want to use your desktop connection for you wm phone just got to settings/connection/advance and set everything there to automatic that should let you use your desktop internet connection on your wm phone.
It is set to automatic on every option, but it still download over edge.
Anyway, thats not a big problem, its not often I use internett on my phone when its connected to PC anyway, but thank you for your help.
Also, anyone got a good notepad-app to recommend?
I use PocketNotepad by Tillansoft. Freeware, no troubles noticed yet.

Your 'Pass through Internet' issue
For your internet connectivity issue while connected to PC, please try this:
In 'Active Sync', go to File - Connection Settings.. The field, 'This computer is connected to:' must have the selection 'The internet'. If you made a change here, close Active Sync, restart the PC, connect the device and try.
You may be interested in these: If you use Wndows XP, search for the topic 'Residential Gateway' in Help and Support. Also look for 'Desktop pass-through overview' in Active Sync Help topics. Hope it helps.

Thank you Jole. I had the 'connection settings' in ActiveSync set to Automatic before. I changed it to Internet, and it works like a charm!
Going to test PocketNotepad also.
I used this software with my XV6800 and never had a problem. I uninstalled my previous version and installed the new version that came with my Touch Pro 2.
I deactivated the data call, turned on modem link for USB, connected the Touch Pro 2 and the drivers installed and my Touch Pro 2 is listed in Device Manager as HTC Modem.
The problem is that when I start VZAccess Manager it goes to detect my phone and says that no wireless device is detected. Has anyone been able to get this software to work with their Touch Pro 2?
I got it working. Did you choose the "start" or "connect" or whatever option on the TP2 once you had it hooked up to the computer?
One thing I noticed (not sure how it worked on your old phone) - they want you to pay another $15/month for Access Manager data (5GB/mo) on top of your "unlimited" data on the phone.
I went to the modem link software and started it before connecting it to my laptop. After connecting it, the drivers were installed but the software was not able to detect my phone. I just don't know what I am doing wrong.
I already pay the $15 additional charge and I used a previous version of this software with my XV6800 and never had this problem.
I dont use VZAccess Manager, I just use the Internet Sharing program. I found it hidden in the windows folder. Even though the shortcut is not in the program files folder, the program itself is installed on the TP2. I just created a shortcut for it and it works fine for me. I am using it right now to type this message.

Good to know it was already in there...just "hiding." I'll remember that when I finally find the mix of goodies I want on my phone, and do a HR and set it up in the "clean" version.

Same here. I'm actually quite surprised that VZW doesn't have this locked down. I do wish it worked with bluetooth as well (how I used it on my XV6800 w/ custom rom) but at least I'm not paying extra for tethering.
VZW Mobile Web
I just tried to tether my phone. It initially connected and downloaded a website. When I tried another site, a Verizon Mobile Broadband Connect site came up wanting me to approve the $15 fee. I have tried clicking on a MSInternetSharing6.0.cab that I downloaded from another thread, but it will not install. How do you create the shortcut, and I didn't see the file in the Windows folder. Can you explain how it is hiding and how to find it? Thanks for your help.
Well in my case the reason that the VZAccess Manager wasn't working was a setting in Windows Vista. After I fixed that I had no problems.

If I'm not mistaken no cab will install for internet sharing because you would be overwriting the rom file that is installed in the phone. You have to look in the windows folder for a file called IntShrUI.exe then create a shortcut on your "/Windows/Start Menu/Program Files" folder. I used a program called File Explorer Extension to create the shortcut. After you install the attached cab, you find that file in the location I listed above and then tap & hold on the file until you get the various options. Select the option that says "Send Shortcut to Programs" and then click the link in your program files folder. When the program opens up, plug you TP2 to your pc or laptop, allow activesync to complete a sync, then on the TP2 in the Internet sharing program, click on the "Connect" option on the bottom left, and it should work as long as you have an data plan for your TP2. These instructions work for Verizon so I cannot speak for any other service providers. If anyone else has tested this on other providers please let us all know. Hope these long instructions help out.
That worked great. I am on the phones connection as I type this. Thanks for the extended directions, they were very helpful. Now, I just wish I was getting better than 1x at my home so it would be faster to test. I have Wi/Fi at home, so I guess it is not that big of a deal.

Upload Speed: 78 kbps (9.8 KB/sec transfer rate)

Is there any way to get this method to work via bluetooth, or is that not an option for internet connection sharing? Thanks for the great tip!
This is the way I worked around vz access manager and you don't need a to do it. I am able to get on the internet on my laptop through my cell phone via bluetooth or USB.
Dial ##778
Click Edit
Unlock Code is 000000
Click View Info
Scroll Down to M.IP Default Profile
3rd row down is DUN NAI
Click DUN NAI and then click Menu
Then Edit
Change the Value to (yournumber)@vzw3g.com
example [email protected]
Click ok
Click Menu , OK
Should Soft reset and then you are good to go!
In fact I am typing this on my laptop which is bluetooth tethered to my TP2 right now!
Enjoy!
Eliteoomph,
Thanks for the reply. Maybe I am missing something. Up until today, I was paying for VZW tethering and was easily able to connect via bluetooth using DUN. After reading this thread, I created the shortcut to Internet Sharing (the one that came on the VZW TP2), connected via USB cable and was able to surf the internet on my laptop with no problem. I called VZW and canceled my tethering plan. I am still able to easily connect to the internet on my laptop using the Internet Sharing program via USB. My question is, can you use Internet Sharing via Bluetooth? There does not appear to be that option inside of the Internet Sharing program.
By the way, a big thanks for this thread. I am now saving $15/month (tethering) for the data I am already paying $45/month (corporate unlimited data) for. Also, a few quick checks on DSL Reports and I am averaging 1,700 up and 600 down on my TP2 connection. Unbelievable!

Thanks for this info. I got the Bluetooth DUN sans $15/month working with the tweaks to the M.IP profile.
How does this method compare to ICS Bluetooth PAN?
Why was BT removed from ICS? Who decided to remove it, MS or VZW?
If ICS BT PAN offers better performance than BT DUN, is there a way to reinstall the complete ICS?
Thanks
I am not certain but it shouldn't be any slower
It is plently fast for me I play WOW in my truck over bluetooth without any problems and even use my slingbox over it to watch football games while tailgaiting....
Works great!

The complete ICS is installed. What is missing is the PAN profile from the Bluetooth Stack. Verizon simply chose not to include it. I've been trying to find out it Sprint or Telus have it and if so, we should be able to grab the files.

hello, I recently purchased the tp2 and love it so far. I have done a number of tweaks to the phone with no issues except for the tethering one. I followed the instructions that are given to tether which included deleting and editing some registry entries but i am having an odd problem. When i go the the internet sharing program and i hit the connect button, nothing happens. the "connect" button goes gray for a couple of second the returns to white for me to press it again. the status says disconnected and never changes.
I tried a number of things such as:
1.soft reset
2.reinstalled the internet sharing and edited the reg again
3.opened a connection with my web browser first
from what i understand is that the next step after "connect" would be a prompt that says "connect your usb cable" or something like that.
Has anybody run into this problem? Can anybody give me any advise?
Thanks
Im using mine right now but Ive also had a few issues
Make sure your Data connection is active( in connections under settings) before you try to tether
Quote: "I followed the instructions that are given to tether which included deleting and editing some registry entries"
Question....where can I find these instructions....iv'e looked and can't find....THANKS!
HOW can I get Internet Sharing to work on my TP2
tp2 tethering
you dont need to make any registry changes for tethering to work. sprint doesn't see the data any differently(i have been streaming netflix through my phone to my laptop for a while). try a hard reset. with phone off hold power send call and end call buttons simultaneously until reset screen appears. follow instructions on the screen. also are you selecting phone as modem or sprint for the connection? be sure it is set to sprint. i ran into a similar issue and needed to call sprint to have them reset my data connection password and i updated profile afterwards and it worked fine. hope this helps.
I posted my tethering experience with Mogul and TP2 here.

I found it easiest to use the XDA-Tom Codon wifi cab for tethering. It enables you to use your phone as a wireless router for your computer and Sprint cannot see it. It works very well for me and its very fast, the only downfall is it runs your battery down considerably.....

Tethering vs WIFI use
Hi All,
First time poster here.
I have a new HTC TP2 on Sprint and love the phone. But when it comes to tethering, I have a few questions.
I finally got "Internet Sharing FIX" to work. It took a few connects of the cable to start it working.
When I installed "XDA-Tom_Codon CM Wifi Internet Sharing VGA" it seems to work but the data connection keeps dropping. Soft resets do nothing. A hard reset worked. But again after install the Internet Shareing FIX then Tom's WIFI sharing, the issue reappeared again.
It seems like these 2 cannot exist together on the phone. Is this true?
try this
install these: in order as posted make sure to soft reset after each cab

Which rom are you using? With a custom rom, does one experience these problems? I'd like to tether directly rather than wifi sharing. Does one do this with a custom rom and the above applications installed?
I am current using WiFi sharing on my TP2 with no problems from my home computer or iPod Touch but it doesn't work with my work computer due to it being locked down. :-(
If In install these three programs witll it allow me to direct connect via a USB cable?
Thnx.
I'm able to use ICS on windows vista via USB connection, but not for windows 7. Does the above fix solve the problem? (i'm using mightymike's rom)
Hello everyone,
Forgive me if this has already been asked, but after searching and searching thoroughly I was unable to find a solution.
I have the T Mobile HTC HD2, the phone is better than any iPhone I ever owned. (Just had to get that out... )
I have a question concerning the HTC CM Wifi Internet Sharing. I installed the app, ran it without any issues. The signal was picked up by one of my laptops. I was able to connect and surf the web over 3G, pretty quick I must say...
The issue I am having is, since connecting that one time, I have not been able to see the phone as a router since. When I run the app and choose T-Mobile data, the 3G pops up. The wireless antenna icon pops up and the app says it is ready to receive incoming connections. BUT, I am unable to see this from any of my wireless devices.
My questions are, is there any specific procedure to get this to run correct? Do I have to disable wireless on the HD2? Is there some WinMo 6.5 firewall running? I know others have experienced this, but I am unable to track down a solution.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
mcv50

I am running the app through Settings-All Settings-Connections-Wifi Internet Sharing
After i installed the cab, this is the only place I could find a way to launch the app.
Why is there another way?
I downloaded a random wifi sharing app and had the same problem, then found XDA-Tom_Codom CM Wifi Internet Sharing VGA. Worked like a charm. I would uninstall and try that one.
SxyCupcake, thanks for the suggestion.
I uninstalled, then installed the XDA-Tom_Codon CM Wifi Internet Sharing VGA.cab you suggested. I get the same result. I am rebooting right now to see if that may help...
After rebooting, I get the same thing. It almost seems like something is blocking the WiFi Transmit antenna signal or maybe it is not activating correctly... Might be a registry setting or something.
I may have fudged up some setting using BsB Tweaks or XT Hack Beta2... I might wind up just doing a complete restore and start from scratch.
Still doesn't work. I will check back often and post a solution if I figure it out.
Thank you,
mcv50
