** have not received my phone yet **
https://www.rearthusa.com/google-nexus-4-ringke-slim-case
Ordered my nexus 4 and slim case together, got the case today, no sign of my phone yet!
Appearance wise the case looks, as usual, slim - very slim! probably less than 1/2 mm and super light! I have the galaxy nexus slim case as well and there's a leather patch in the back with rearth logo and all. On this one its sketched on the case itself - adding no bulk and probably making it lighter
Design-wise it looks and feels like a premium case, the matte black finish and well cut edges primarily contributes to that. Power button and volume rocker cuts are well tapered - cannot validate the placement though, not without the phone of-course! The material is also somewhere in between sft-tpu and hard-plastic, something that feels natural in hand.
Safety/peace of mind wise, it'll probably feel a little less secure than the galaxy nexus slim case. On the galaxy nexus case the the top and bottom was fully covered, the microUsb and headphone ports were pluggable and the sides ware exposed a bit. In this nexus 4 case the sides are fully covered, top and bottom are exposed and the ports are not pluggable
There's a side-effect of the full side-covered design though (which I cannot confirm right now). According to the reviews the nexus 4, the front glass is slightly tapered on the edges making edge to edge gestures fluid and natural. This might have been more enjoyable with a design similar to galaxy nexus slim case with top and bottom covered and sides exposed. This is not a deal breaker though as ALL the cases available today, including the original bumper case, will have the same side effect. I wish, given the stability/usability of the galaxy nexus slim case, they could have chosen a similar design - it'd have been more enjoyable.
Final words, I love this case!!!
===Update, 14th Dec===
got 2nd rev, first one came with minor defect! got prompt response from them and the revised case. sadly, still its not 100% perfect.
however, given current choices, this is relatively better...
Shouldn't this review go with all the other stuff about this case??

Jst got my case yesterday, and I would honestly wait to see if these go down in price, or just not at all. It doesn't fit snugly on the left side of my device (by the volume rocker), and to me thats a problem. It barely, if at all, protects above the screen line, so it's really for the sides and back. Not a big deal for me, as I never have my phone on its screen, but at $12 shipped - I expect more.
you love this case, yet you don't even have a phone to try it on?

The case really feels good in hand, its super-light and I'm sure for a <$10 case, this will exceed expectation!
I'll update the review once I get the phone, just got my shipping confirmation! It should be in before the weekend - I hope.
They are sending me a revised case next week, I like it...but it's not snug and the bottom rubs on my hand weird. So I may not use it as my primary case.

They must've sent me a revised case, mine fits snug and the upper left side isn't loose. Received mine two days ago.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
mine was the rev1, defective - the left side was not snug fit! they're sending a new one, should be arriving in couple of days...
It feels good in hand but given the aesthetics of beautiful glass-back, I'm tempted to tryout the bumpers! damn both oem and poetic are out of stock...

The listing on amazon.com says it's for a revised case. Mine shipped today so if I'm lucky and it beats the USPS shipping estimate I'll have it before the weekend.
Not sure whether or not my replacement case is going to be trackable but hoping that it will be.
Yeah I really wish they had covered the top / bottom and left the sides exposed. Dunno why they didn't do that again

Kinda like that one? I liked the GN version of the case but this one definitely has better material in the back.

Thanks, I'll give it a try.
Edit: Just checked my email from the previous ticket that the person on CSR emailed me (just remembered that they sent me an follow up email when I contacted them about it). Noticed that there was actually a USPS tracking code and label already created. Looks like it's already being processed. Definitely customer support is up there from Rearth.
@Ngo93: Yeah I'm not sure why they made the case even more minimal but personally for me I like the N4 version a lot better mainly because of the material being used from the back. It is very pleasant to hold in the hands. My only complaints at this time would be that if your hands are dirty, it does get dirty from the back but other than that it's not much. Easily cleanable.
My new updated case shipped 2 days ago, hopefully I'll have it by tomorrow

I looked at this case too, but ended up with something else because it doesn't cover all the front edges. Before my brand new N4 I had a iPhone 3GS with a case like this one. After a while all the chrome on the top edges were getting scuffed and scratched. I recommend something that covers everything but the screen, if you want a scratch-free N4.
Got my updated case, and it's 100x better. The piece in the upper left corner is bigger, but not obtrusive and fixes all the issues we had before.

When I place my Nexus 5 on a flat surface, e.g. a desk, the top left and bottom right corners wobble back and forth. This is especially annoying if I am typing as the phone will move slightly and tap the desk.
I also use a Spigen Ultra Hybrid bumper. when the Nexus 5 is fitted with it, the wobbles are not so strong.
Does anyone else have this?

Sorry, I didn't miss that, but I'm a little bit confused, when I want to type a text, when the phone lays on a flat surface, and I need one hand to fix the Nexus 5.
Maybe I'm the only person in the world who doesn't like that.
You can obviously see the Nexus 5 back is far from flat, maybe you need to buy an iPhone if you require a flat phone lol ..

While it is evident that the phone will wobble while lying face up on a flat surface due to the camera, this should not be the case with this bumper case on.
I have this same bumper case, and one day I noticed that the phone was wobbling like that on a flat surface, and I was like, what the hell?? I took the phone out of the case and put it face down on the same flat surface, and verified that the phone would still wobble... A LOT!
Yes, this cell phone bends easily!!!
I gently bent the phone the opposite way and got to eliminate the wobbling issue. But the issue reappears after carrying the phone in my jeans pocket as it is exposed to some slight pressure while sitting, so I try to avoid carrying the phone in my pockets, and I check that my phone is not bent every day (again, it bends easily; I have to "fix" it almost every day).
It is a real downer to see that such a high-end cell phone was built with such crappy materials. Yeah, yeah, you get what you pay for and all those crappy excuses, as if I asked Google to sell their FLAGSHIP phone for such a low price.

Blah blah blah.
What's the catch? You make money by defending Google? Nobody's allowed to make a negative comment about a brand here? Your teeth will come off if you read them?
By the way, it is really good to see you did not make any comment about the issue itself.

Not flat in a flat case or when lying down on the screen.
Something's funky if your phone bends. I carry my N5 in my jeans pocket and I just placed it face down on the counter. It's lying perfectly flat. And I was watching for something like this, coming from an all-metal Samsung Captivate.

Sorry to say, but you're dead wrong. I take extreme good care of my phones, and this one is no exception.
An argumentum ad populum makes no case.
Can you post a picture of your bent phone? I'd like to see how the glass/casing is misshapen. Seems like such an unorthodox problem, first I've heard of it.
Howdy, this is my first review. I thought I would have enjoyed a thread like this so I would create one. I am comparing the dot view ice to the dot view for the m8 because that is what I had and most likely what other have had. A side note, I am loving this phone! (And pics were taken with my old HTC EVO 4G LTE)
PICS:
http://imgur.com/a/s1Mli#0
The black m9 version is lighter than the m8 black version
The m9 'dot holes' are fractionally bigger than the m8's. To me, this makes the dots seem more vivid and brighter
The selfie-cam is no longer visible on the m9 version and is essentially protected
The m9 version covers the entire edge of the phone.
The m9 version is very tight on the phone. I really don't think dirt and things will get in between the phone and the case with the way the edge grips onto the phone. However because of this, the phone is very difficult to get ouf of the case. I feel that I might damage the case or the phone when removing it.
Since the case covers the entire phone (around the edges), the volume and power buttons are now covered. I feel they are a bit difficult to determine if I am pushing them- there is no clicky feel or noise made when pushing them.
Since the back is clear plastic, I feel that the outside will eventually be scratched to heck. I personally lay my phone with the screen up though usually.
The flappy cover still has the same rigidness and (I feel) quality as before.
The m8 doesn't function in the m9 case and the mm9 doesn't function in the m8 case. They DO fit in each other's cases, but the magnet that turns on the functionality is offset from the sensors rendering them incompatible.
If anyone feels that I missed anything, feel free to add to the list.

I can confirm that the M9 does not work in the M8 case. I have had a test M9 since January and an M8 with Dotview. As you state, the magnets are in different locations, as are the sensors. HTC told me early on that the M8 case wouldn't work.
Got the Dot View ICE edition for my M9, I'm really loving it. everybody at work was very impressed with it's functionality.
The thing that I'm uneasy about is the HTC Universal Car Mount for the M9. I mean using the car mount is really seamless. My problem is having to remove the phone from the case if I want to put it in the mount because I'm afraid the front cover will break or bend to the point where its no longer usable, at which point I will have a regular see trough case with no dot view at all...
Any one else having this issue?
Looks like the phone won't be popping out of the case as much or at all this time around.
I got one of these with a Tmobile gift card I had. I love the dot view and how it functions but the flip case isn't for me. It's awkward to use the phone with the flap open because it wants to spring back to the phone, and it's just a weird grip to use while using the device.
I really dig the look, size, and feature though!
Hi!
Stupid question maybe.. I've had a Dot View Ice since monday. I haven't paid much attention to the cover when it's closed, but today I realized that when I turn my phone sideways or upside down, the cover opens. Shouldn't that be prevented by the magnet inside?
Can anyone tell me if they experience this too or is my Dot View just ruined after four days?

I don't think it is ruined, I don't think the magnet is strong enough to out weigh the rubber casing and if you keep the case on while using your phone (more than 20 mins with cover bent to the back) it eventually wears down to the point where it will flip open turned sideways or upside down. I noticed this recently and take the phone out of the case when I am at home to preserve the elasticity of the case. Regardless it isn't like it was when I first purchased it, but I still use it to protect my phone when I am out and about.

I just got the premium case (non-ice). I believe the flap is just as rigid and will tear like the ice edition did. Meanwhile my m8 dot view never tore over two years. I hope this one lasts a while.

So far, mine isn't tearing, but I have seldom opened it more than 90 degrees. Lol
I figured those of you who haven't decided yet, you may want some accessory recommendations.
Here is my case. It is perfect for this phone. Ignore the 1 bad review, they didn't even have this phone.

Here is my screen protector. It is a 2 pack of 9H tempered glass for $8. There is about 1mm of exposed glass on each edge after installation, but my case covers those edges perfectly. The cutouts line up perfectly and has a Hydrophobic and Oleophobic screen coating. The screen is super smooth to the touch and installs easily without a single bubble.

Those are the only accessories I've bought so far, maybe period as I can't think of anything else I could need. I have the 256GB so I won't need a MicroSD. Let me know if you have anything that may be better. I hope you are enjoying your ZenFone 3 Deluxe as much as I am.

I ordered the silver variant of that case last week. Suprised at how well the back stays on there with as little room it has to snap on there. Got a second one coming in for my Special Edition (own the 820 and 821 model).
Anyways, it's a great case. Just wish Spigen will come out with a slimline model of their cases for the phones. Had theirs with the kickstand for my note 4 and it was about as slim as this one and worked well for the 2 years I had the phone lol

I suppose the buttons are open to subjective opinion. I think they are perfect as they stick out so they are easy to find. They take a little force which I like so they don't accidentally press but still easy enough to press without adjusting your grip on the phone. It only adds a tiny bit of stiffness to the buttons, but I could see how some would press effortless button presses. I am on the opposite side of that spectrum though
Perhaps its just a matter of me geting used to it. One thing is certain it made me easier to get finger print read correctly.. With out the cover i used to get loads of misreads and with it its all fine... Quite happy with the purchase.
Sent from my ASUS_Z016D using XDA-Developers mobile app
Yeah it forces you to hold your finger vertically. That is the one thing I don't like as I wish they would've made the sides of the fingerprint edging just as slanted as the bottom.
If you are having issues with the fingerprint sensor, when you train your finger, be sure to train it a bunch of different ways. Change up the position with each press. Heck, I presume you could even train your main finger twice as two different fingers. We only get to train 5 fingers though.
If anyone currently owns the original Galaxy Fold, I am interested to hear about your experience regarding durability.
Assuming you've owned this device around a year, how did the screen hold up, did you have to be stupidly careful when handling it?
The Fold 2 looks like a much more capable and durable device, so if the original Fold survived well it gives me confidence in buying one and using it like any other smartphone.
.
I'd wander down to the OG section, there are a couple thread that touch on durability, started one of them myself just a month or so before this one launched.

Yeah I did check that out. Seems that the original has turned out more durable (for most) than was originally believed.
I just watched a Youtube video from Flossy Carter, if anyone can prove the Galaxy Fold would take some everyday abuse, it would be him. So good news so far!
.
I've had both
I had an original fold for about 6 months before I upgraded yesterday to the new version. I had zero issues with reliability or durability with the original phone. I was only using a d brand skin, not even a case, for most of the time I had the phone, and I found it to have no problems with the infrequent times when I dropped it. I am not very hard on phones, but I don't baby them either. The only reason I upgraded was because I was using an unlocked Att phone on Verizon and I found it impossible to get android updates. Frankly, I did not even have a problem with the size of the outside screen, as I was usually using it for quick looks at whatever. The new phone feels a little more solid, though the first version was fine as well. The hinge DOES feel more substantial, which I like. Over all it is great, but I thought the same thing about the original. If I had been able to get updates I would not have upgraded.
Just sent my old Fold back to Sammy to get the $800 promo

I did the trade in also, but in the UK rather than the US. Did you get shipped additional packaging and shipping label to return the original Fold?
I didn't receive the shipping label with my order, and the tiny box shipped with the Fold 2 doesn't fit the original. The FAQ states that if you can't find the shipping label or lost it, you can reprint from your order, which I can't find anywhere, so have resorted to emailing support to see if the can print another one.
Wanted to know if anyone else that traded in was missing their returns label or just me.
Took a few hours after getting the phone and then I got the label in the email. They never ship a box. I usually just put the phone only (no box or charges) in a generic box, slap the label and ship it out

That's good to know. It's why I originally asked the question because durability is obviously unknown on the Z Fold 2 so we can only go by how good the original one is assuming the Fold 2 is improved.
How do you find the feel of the screen compared to the original? Does it still feel plasticky? Of course there is a screen protector to consider but have read that it now feels less mushy, and not so sensitive to fingernail scratches.
.
Scratches.
The inner screen feels mostly the same, as I have left the screen protector on. I never had a problem with how the screen felt on the original. The outer screen I Am enjoying more. The larger outer screen feels better to use for typing particularly. I am typing this on the outer screen using a swype keyboard and it is working perfectly as expected. One difference I have noticed is that my battery life does not seem to be as long. I used the original pretty power heavy and this one I have on optimized, but I don't think I am getting the same battery life as I did before. Not sure why.

Thanks for the heads up! As much as I hate screen protectors I think I should keep the inside one intact (definitely will remove the cover screen one)
Still waiting on my phone to arrive, there's been a shortage of stock and I still don't have a delivery date yet. So excited about this phone and from what I hear I won't be disappointed.

I just posted some comments in the "how do you clean the screen" thread so won't repeat everything here. The screen protector on the inside display is cheap and foggy. If you look at the front facing camera cutout you can see what's underneath and that looks a lot like the protective layer that everyone thought was a screen protector on the OG Fold and pulled it off and destroyed the display. Assuming what's under the screen protector is the same as the OG Fold then the display will be very durable. I had my OG Fold for eight months and the screen is as perfect today as it was when I got it. There are videos on YouTube of people taking the screen protector off on the Fold 2 and I'll join them soon. The fogginess works my nerves.
I dropped my OG Fold on wooden floors a couple of times and it was none the worse for it. The hinge was always kind of for want of a better word, crunchy. If you squeezed the phone you could feel the play in the hinge. It never affected usability and was no better or worse eight months later. The OG Fold was really a proof of concept rather than a mass production phone and if it held up as well as it did I have high hopes for the Fold 2.
Some comments after moving in the Fold 2 and using it for a few days.
The new hinge is a lot more sturdy and it staying in fixed positions on the way to open or closed allows for Flex Mode which I guess is a good thing. That is if you don't mine putting the cover display or glass back/camera glass of your $2,000 phone down on random foreign objects. It was a lot easier opening and closing the OG Fold because that's what the display was designed to do - be open or be closed. Maybe I'll fall in love with Flex Mode but I'm kind of missing the easier opening/closing.
The 4.6" cover display was really just for reading notifications and brief interactions. Typing on it was maddening. So Samsung has now filled the cover display which is a huge esthetic improvement. Typing is only moderately better because the width, while expanded, is still comically narrow. The height is clown car bizarre in use. Trying to reach the top of the cover display with one hand requires basketball player sized hands. I like the new bigger display better than the old one, even just for the improved looks, but it's still a strange format to get things done on.
I have bronze and the Fold 2 really is a gorgeous phone. It looks like jewelry with the intricate design elements and varying textures. The camera bump is much more pronounced than on the OG Fold which makes carrying it naked all the more nerve racking. The OG Fold was futuristic because it was and there was nothing to compare it to. I guess you could compare it to the Mate X but I'd never buy a foldable that had their vulnerable plastic displays on the outside of the phone. The OG Fold was an odd device and carried it's oddity with pride. The Fold 2 is a really nice phone that folds in half. It's special but not as special as the OG Fold was for its time.
Cases. I have the OEM leather case and Aramid case. Both suck for different reasons. The leather case is like wearing orthopedic shoes with a tuxedo. As balanced as the Fold 2's design is slapping the leather case on it makes it look deformed. It's a chunky case and when it's on it looks incredibly disjointed. Kind of like someone stuck an additional panel (the front display) on top of another phone as an afterthought. It does its job and protects the back of the phone well but it looks God awful. The Aramid case looks better because it's much thinner but half black and half bronze looks weird. And the kickstand bump makes the phone wobbly when you put it down and makes it easy for the phone to slide around. Olixar makes a back panel screen protector as well as a camera protector. I ordered a Dome screen protector for the front display. I think that's the way I'm going to go because I can't see with the Fold 2's design how anyone will be able to make a symmetric front and back case that doesn't look like an appendage.
In using the phone everyday it's a lot like its predecessor. It's obviously faster but s/w wise, outside of Flex Mode, there isn't a great deal of difference between the two. The inside display is much more fluid due to the higher refresh rate but what you're looking at is equal to or worse than the OG Fold because of the $.99 screen protector Samsung applied. I'm happy with the Fold 2 and it makes the OG Fold look and feel older than it is. I think the Fold 2 will wow people more that have never used a folding phone than those of us coming from the OG Fold. It sure is pretty though.
No regrets

Yeah, I have no regrets on the upgrade. I am assuming I am getting poorer battery life is because of the 120h inner screen, but it seems a pretty dramatic drain at this point. I read the news in bed before I get up, and I am often at 90% just from the 10 minutes of reading. I am also having a little trouble with some new Samsung ui features. Particularly, when a message bubble appears on the front screen, I cannot read the message, only the place where I can reply. I have tried resizing, but I end up having to open the app, which defeats the purpose of the bubbles. It might be my fault though because I use the drupe app, and it might just not be sizing itself appropriately for the smaller cover screen. It might just be something I have to deal with, because I would not get rid of drupe. I like the app so much I feel like a cooperate shill for them every time I talk about it.

Yeah I think you're being brave to use an app like Drupe on such unique aspect ratios! The built in messaging app has a great bubble notification feature which I use on my Note 20, so I am guessing Samsung included the feature on the Fold 2.
Good news is my Z Fold 2 arrives tomorrow, so I am really looking forward to unboxing and trying it out.
Thanks for your input and giving me assurance regarding durability ツ
