[Non-root] Stock Verizon Note 5 APN Settings Editing - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note5

Hello Verizon Note 5 XDA members, I myself am a owner of the Verizon Note 5, eagerly awaiting, and looking for ways to gain root on this phone.
Unfortunately we do not have it fully as of yet. So in the mean time I have been messing around, looking for things I can do without rooting.
I am unsure if anyone else has found this method, or posted it to any other websites, however I have not noticed this posted on XDA nor have I found any accurate
posts on how to change APN settings, unless the phone is from a different carrier other than Verizon.
TL;DR - Here's a method I believe I found for changing APN Settings without root.
My phone specs is the first screenshot in the steps.
I DO NOT TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY TO ANY AND ALL DAMAGES TO YOUR PHONE THAT THIS MAY CAUSE. DOING THIS YOU ACCEPT AND USE THIS METHOD AT YOUR OWN RISK WITHOUT HOLDING ME LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES.
First things first, I am unsure if this will work for lower versions, or any other model. Or if any other phone may contain this. My model and version is this:

}
Also note, my APN Settings are greyed out, blocked, be whatever you want to call it.
Step 1. Clear all recent apps, or just make sure you do not have settings opened in the background processes. As this will stop you from reaching the bypass in step 6 and it will show the usual greyed out/blocked add button.
Step 2. Download Activity Launcher, or use any software that allows launching of app activities. I suggest Activity Launcher only due to this is the app I was using at the time I found this.
Step 3. Open Activity Launcher, and make sure All Activities is selected in the top left corner. It could take a few seconds, to a minute to load them all depending on how many apps you have installed.
Step 4. Locate the activity called "com.test.LTEfunctionality" without quotation marks. It should be near the bottom of the list in Activity Launcher. Expand the drop down by clicking on the activity once so it looks like the screenshot.
Step 5. Click on LTE Test to launch this activity. What launches should look like this screenshot below.
Step 6. Scroll down until you see LTE APN Setting as in the screenshot below. Then click it.
Step 7. Profit from changing your APN Settings to however you please.
To enable the APN, you must select it from the screen on Step 7, it will not show up in your usual Settings>Mobile Networks>Access Point Names. It will also appear as you have no APN selected in the usual APN screen. To modify your APN's again, you will have to go through all of the above steps again starting from Step 3.

Sorry, if I'm not in the know but why would I want this?
Thanks

You don't.. There's no need to change your APN (Access Point Name) when your phone is already set up to properly receive calls, texts and data. This will not do anything towards helping to root at all.. You would need this if you were trying to get a phone that you already paid for onto Verizon or some other carriers network. Other than that there's not much use of this.

I'm using a verizon version on Cricket/AT&T. When I inserted my sim card I had to manually enter my APN info and all i had to do was scroll through settings till i found the mobile networks. Then once inside that menu I hit APN. It automatically let me enter my info without having to go through all of what you were explaining...

I am currently deployed and brought my Verizon Note 5. I purchased a prepaid data SIM and had to edit the APN settings for it to work. I didn't have to go through all these crazy steps either, I don't know what this person is talking about.

I have a Verizon note 5 and I want to change to a free APN in my area. This didn't work for me but I'm going to try some variations . My APN is locked out like yours. Thanx

I finally got my APN to change
I tried this method and they must have patched it on the Dec 2017 software version because it did not open the APN Test at step 6..
What I did was put in am ATT sim card, went in to APN settings, Added an APN with the "TRACFONE.VZWENTP" APN settings and saved it. (the saved APN disappeared from the list after saving) Pulled out the ATT sim card, Reinserted my PagePlus sim card and restarted. It worked, I Now Have DATA!
The APN settings are still greyed out now and I can not change them but phone is using the APN i set while I had the other sim card in the phone so its working great for me!

I was excited, but unfortunately this did not work for me. I'm on Straight Talk and I updated to Nougat with Smart Switch, but now my data doesn't work. Would be super nice if I could change my APN setting and get it to work again. Verizon claims they don't lock their 4G LTE devices, but this definitely seems like a way of locking it.

Hey I just loaded a FreedomPop SIM card with no real problem. I swapped out the Sim card and then did a factory reset. It still tried to connect to Verizon but FP ran a setup program that allowed me to add a new APN. I them loaded Samsung package disabler 11.5 and killed the setup wizzard from Verizon. No more error messages.

Social worker w/ Tilt having trouble after flashing

After spending hours reading through the FAQ's and all on how to flash I finally took the leap and did it, flashing my AT&T Tilt to Dutty's DualTouch v3 Final.
*1* Unfortunately my usual 3G isn't working.. When I go to the Communication Manager and select (under the 3G logo) "Change to GSM mode" (to force it into 3G) it shows at the top that there is no service. Is this a radio issue? I know about radio's except **I can't find where to look on my Tilt to see what current radio it is using**..
also, There is an "H" in the upper task bar instead of the usual 3G or E (Edge). I guess this stands for HSDPA?
1.B. When I try to check my gmail account it says "Cannot connect for unknown reason".. I can't figure out why in the settings.
(Other, less important issues below, from unimportant to really unimportant)
2. How can I make it so the leading "zero" goes away in the time? (i.e. 03:00pm)
3. How can I change the date to make it "american style" (month/day/year)
4. How can I get rid of the anti-aliased look in the print?
5. how can I activate the cube look to check it out?
I guess if I can't get the email and all working I'll just switch it back to the old AT&T ROM and re-remove the bloatware
Thanks for your information and help!!

Turn of hidden proxy to get the internet working. And there is no Cube on version 3
Turn off hidden proxy?
How do I turn off the hidden proxy??
I googled that and searched the threads and couldn't find anything about turning off hidden proxies..
(New user + social worker + 2 posts = Going to require step by step in all likelihood)

Okay, Let me find the link for you
Download and install this cab
Link
4. How can I get rid of the anti-aliased look in the print?
Start/settings select screen. Goto clear type and uncheck it.
3. How can I change the date to make it "american style" (month/day/year)
Start/settings then goto system tab and select regional settings. Then goto the last tab date...You can change it there.
Hexane, I just flashed an AT&T Tilt with the same ROM. If you did the hardSPL you should be OK...to check your radio number power your phone down and restart...when it comes back on the number in red after the letter "R" is your radio number. I even flashed a ROM with a different radio number then what I had and my phone kept my old radio number...not sure if it was suppose to but it works. The H is for HSDPA which essentially is "3G"...my phone switches between showing the H and 3G, but it works either way. When you go into Comm manager, does it have the blue on button at the bottom beside 3G?
2. How can I make it so the leading "zero" goes away in the time? (i.e. 03:00pm)
settings --> System --> Regional Settings
Goto Time tab and select time style as h:mm:ss that will remove the leadin zero
3. How can I change the date to make it "american style" (month/day/year
settings --> System --> Regional Settings
Goto date tab and select the Date format in there,
5. how can I activate the cube look to check it out?
search for slither cube in xda forums and install it from there.
ask me if you don find the links
From now on if I have a question I will put the same magic words:

Does flashing rom's or odin re lock the infuse?

Okay, so I have an unlocked Infuse..... does flashing roms or odining back to stock re lock it? Or does it not mess with those settings at all?
Thanks to anyone that helps, not very familiar with gsm devices.
H2o sim and unlock
I'm a newb but, I just went through leaving AT&T for H2O and last night I got a T-simMobile . The H2O card was mailed to me and all I had to do was .... Menu >settings>wireless networks>mobile networks> access point names> press menu key and select New APN> select name> enter- H2O WAP, and tap ok. next select APN and enter att.mvno- tap ok > in proxy enter 66.209.11.33 tap ok ,then port enter 80 > at the bottom go to APN type and choose internet or internet+mms+supl and then hit the menu button and click save. It will back you out to APN page. Tick the dot next to H2O WAP and it should light up. Done. you may have to go to your browser open it, hit menu button, choose MORE, Settings, Set Homepage and enter google as homepage , hit ok , and poof!! H2O Should work. I did it on both,my Captivate and my Infuse 4G , both originally AT&T phones. Now, about the T-Mobile sim card... I just did this last night on my Captivate. Oh, it's rooted and running on Watsa's APEX 12.0 ROM (very cool). If you need info on T-M sim card on AT&T phone ask and I will tell, I don't have time now on lunch break.

So did you have to unlock your device before you got it working on H2O? Or did it just work?

I believe AT&T MVNO SIMs will work on phones originally sold for AT&T without the need to unlock the phone.
According to H20's website, you can download an app that will set up your APN from the market.
Indeed. I'm running H2O on my inspire.
My settings that work just fine:

Setting APN to fix MMS issues Bluegrass Cellular Showcase i500

Not sure if this is the correct area to post, feel free to move it.
This is for Bluegrass Cellular Showcase i500. It may also work for other Bluegrass Androids with MMS not sending or receiving.
Once you have installed a custom rom and everything except MMS is working properly. Follow these steps.
1. Open App Drawer - launch voice dialer.
2. Say open A P Ns - should popup Open APNs - select it.
3. Once in APNs - you may or may not have an APN listed - press menu - restore defaults.
4. If you have an APN listed - select it - if not then press menu and add new.
5. You should now see edit access point.

6. Set your settings just as mine are in the pictures above (or text below in case the pictures don't load)
7. Most important, if you want it to save and show up in the list of APNs - DO NOT CHANGE THE MCC OR MNC! IT SHOULD WORK WITH WHATEVER NUMBER IS ALREADY THERE. THIS IS WHY SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE TROUBLE SAVING THEIR APN SETTINGS, BECAUSE THEY CHANGE THESE TWO SETTINGS.

You can manually enter these settings. Go to the dialer and enter##83786633 then hit the home button, open the dialer again and clear what is there, then enter ##22745927, the SPC code is 000000 by default and then you can select to turn hidden menus on. Finally, go to the dialer again an enter ##3282#, and your in the manual data settings. I dont know any of this info, but if you do, please share

i hate the small size of my phone company lol
Well you could flash a stock Odin then bite the bullet and take it in to get reflashed. I know i am going in the morning to do this, i will create a dump when i get done and get back to you on it.

I may have the fix for alot of you Bluegrass cellular customers. In my case when I went to mobile networks under settings, There was no APN setting option. I activated a Verizon 4G Galaxy Nexus to my Bluegrass account. I downloaded "offline SIM APN Database" from the Play store. His app lets you input the apn settings even though it doesn't show up in settings. I used all the settings as listed on this thread, but like in my case I had no place to input them. Once you dowload the app (it has to be the PRO), select USA and Verizon. FYI You MUST delete all other APN presets in order for it to work. The app creator is Robert Soult. He is THE MAN!
I just wanted to let you know thanks for this! This helped fix my phone. And I also wanted you to know, I used this to make a script that fixes many MMS problems for Bluegrass Cellular. You can find it here...

"VSNCP Registration Response Error"

I got this error just now when I switched my wifi off. If I tap it, nothing happens. Everything seems to be functional. I had a very weak signal where I was when I got it.
Now, I'm new to Sprint. Is this something anyone has ever seen before on another device? What does it mean?

I've seen this error a couple times... in my case everything worked fine when I received the error as well. I've read a couple other people having this error... so I don't think it's ununusual or indicative of bad hardware.

It seems to show up semi-consistently when doing a profile update (possibly PRL as well). Google it and you'll find some posts on the Sprint community forums too.
Following along the same line...
How about this little number?
This pops up unexpectedly before and after I "rooted" mine.
VSNCP Error 5-GW Reject
There is a stupid stupid bug with the Photon Q that causes this.
Dial ##DATA# on your phone, go to "Data Profile" and look at your username. It should be [email protected] but instead theres an extra .com at the end.
Thats what causes the error (and also apparently stops you from receiving MMS). You have to contact Sprint customer service to get a special code to allow you to edit your username in the Data Profile. That fixed it for me.

Throwing in my two cents:
This seems to fix the 8-GW Reject error but not the 5. FYI, if you call them and fix the extra ".com" keep all the information. Whenever you get a new profile (initiated by you or Sprint) the bad username in the the Profile will come back and have to fix it again.
Called sprint a couple times about this. They told me it was a hardware problem and the phone had to be replaced! I don't believe that for a second but couldn't get any real information out of them. Another rumor is it's caused by some problem connecting to 4g though that is also unconfirmed.

I'll stick with my Q lol. Until then I hope this phone can upgrade to Jelly within the rooted phone. Can't install moto updates as of right now. (Deodexd w/ TWRP)
I continue to receive this error occasionally (every couple days). I'm on the latest moto update, my data username is fine, and I do not have any MMS problems ever since I fixed the MMS on Wifi issue (while on Wifi, MMS attachments report unable to send until mobile data is enabled - sending a picture via gmail to self over wifi fixes this somehow).
It doesn't seem to cause any issues, however I read reports that calls won't come in until it is cleared from the notification bar, so try to notice it and clear it when you can.
FYI, the code that Sprint gives you when you need to edit something under the ##3282# (##DATA#) menu is called your MSL or Master Subsidy Lock code. This is unique to your phone so if you get it, keep it written down somewhere. If you're on this forum, you will likely need it at some point.
Edit: Another note... I've also seen reports that this error has to do with LTE network handshake, and for me that makes sense because my subdivision unfortunately is in a dead spot in the middle of an LTE coverage area. So I'm sure I'm getting faint signals causing the handshake to attempt and fail. If you're not in an LTE coverage area, you can switch to CDMA only mode under Settings -> Wireless and Networks -> More... -> Mobile Networks -> Network Mode. That should help.
Woke up to the phone with a VSNCP Registration Response / Error 3 no P-GW available.
I checked ##DATA# and my username email address is correct. Voice and data both worked with the error.
Also I use an Airave due to such a poor service area.
Edit:
Woke up next day and new VSNCP Registration Response / Error 5: P-GW Reject

[Q] Does root allow APN changes?

To anyone who's rooted their Moto G : Are you able to edit or add profiles to your APN settings after doing so? When I attempt to add another profile I'm brought back to the previous screen without any changes being made. The default (Telus') APN's are greyed out and unchangeable.
I'm intending to give this device to someone over the holidays, and I'm looking to alter the APN settings to only allow MMS traffic through. I'd like to know if it's possible before sacrificing the warranty.
If it does let you alter it, would you kindly please tell me the method you've used?

I had this problem when trying to set up Orange UK's APN information (EE). It wouldn't save with all the information, just deleted the existing one and entered the name and APN fields and it saved. It then did everything else itself.
Hope it helps.
I have rooted and installed Auto Hide Soft Keys and that gives me a menu option on the Navigation Bar: Delete APN, Save, Discard.
Without rooting, you could try installing a different launcher and see if that will give you the menu option.
Thanks for the replies!
I ended up rooting the phone using paulobrien's 1st method without difficulty. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2553467)
The APN settings were still unchangeable unfortunately. I also couldn't find any option to delete the APNs in Auto Hide Soft Keys, although now that I think about it I didn't try any gestures while actually viewing the actual APN's settings.
I was able to install Ritesh Sahu's APN Backup & Restore, and followed the instructions on the PlayStore page of the app for 4.0+ devices (Converting the file to a system app). After doing this, I was able to delete the APN settings from that app, then suddenly I was able to add my own custom APN within the regular menu.
Hopefully this helps someone in the future!
Sorry if I wasn't clear enough. Here are some pictures to demonstrate what I meant.

Here is how I solved it.
1 root it
2 install apnmanager
3 install and run apps2rom and change apnmanager to system app
4 use apnmanager to delete the old telus apn
5 add my own apn
Can you play store link me to the apnmanager App you used?
Thanks! C
