PDAnet not working correctly after upgrading from S4 to S7 - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Hello this question is only for users who are familiar with PDAnet and usb tethering.
Problem #1: The latest version of PDAnet flat out does not work. After installing the latest version (version 4.19) on both my phone and computer, connecting the phone via USB to my Windows PC, and clicking the PDAnet icon in the taskbar and clicking connect to internet, the connection appears to connect momentarily and then immediately disconnects. I have tried reinstalling legacy network drivers, reinstalling PDA to phone from the PC, restarting the PC and the phone etc etc. Nothing worked.
My workaround was to install the older 4.12 version to the phone (a Samsung Galaxy S4) and PC. Using this older version worked somewhat ok, but did occasionally drop the connection when downloading large files. Speeds averaged around 15-25 mbps.
Problem #2: My workaround is no longer working after I upgraded to a new phone, a Galaxy S7. (Yes I did try using version 4.19 of the App with the new phone; same problem still). Using 4.12 barely works at all. If I use a speedtest on my phone separately, unplugged, I get 60 mbps using the fast.com speed test. As soon as I plug it into my PC and enable USB mode, the speed test goes down to <<1mbps. Something has happened.
I need your help. Please tell me how I can get the full speed that I was getting before.
Please be aware that due to my carrier (Verizon) I cannot use the wifi hotspot. It must be USB.

Samsung S2 - using it as modem

Hi..
I recently bought samsung galaxy s2 and have a few doubts regarding a few features..
The situation is something like this-
My phone is connected to the internet via wifi..
Phone is connected to laptop via usb cable..
And i want to access the internet on my laptop is it possible??
The issue here is -
My laptop (lenovo R60, 2006 make, Win XP) network card seems to be incompatible with the high speed modems.
As when i hover over the network icon in the tool tray it shows 54Mbps and the wifi in the phone is shown as 65 Mbps..
So i suppose this is the problem with the NIC card for the laptop.. Am i right in assuming this?
Please help me resolve this issue..
Sure, use usb tether app. it does 3g, not sure about wifi, but worth a try: https://play.google.com/store/apps/..._apps#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEwOSwiY29tLnBkYW5ldCJd
try it with kies
it should let you do that
I just make sure only WIFI data is enabled from the drop menu, and then settings-wireless-tethering then check the USB tethering option
I have tried USB tethering its giving problem with the config file given there for Win XP..
While installing the new hardware using the new hardware wizard it is unable to find the config file downloaded onto the desktop itself..
Tried downloading the PC studio 3.2.2 for samsung and using the network wizard there.. But that too wasnt connecting .. Gives me an option of only removing some connections , which are not there in the first place..
Is there any other alternative for that config file available?
And will switching off mobile data enable usage over wifi on its own? I need it to be wifi only as i do not have any data plans for 3g enabled on my phone..
Thanks a lot.. That USB tether app works.. :good:
And it connects via wifi of phone as well..:victory:
Found that my rooted gs2 phone works fine for usb tether with the juggernaut ROM installed. unfortunately I couldn't tether with the phone connected to the WiFi. I will have to remember that app on the market if the need arises.

I first tried slickmod 3.6, tried a bunch of other roms afterwrads, but none of them as easy to use and i love the look of it.
You could try this if you don't want an app filled with permissions / ram usage that can be fixed rather easily
[just a question do you have any of the 3 Kies processes running: kies, tray agent, KiesPDLR.exe in task manager while trying to use your phone as a wifi usb?]
Im running slickmod3.6 and all i need to do is enable wifi only from the awsome looking drop menu and then settings tick usb tether and i get my wifi data speed/limit Im pretty sure I tried that with stock Telstra firmware and did not work. Why would i want a permission hungy app for if it's not needed, it has a very modded look to it its great, plus i added some xtras.
Just a thought try uninstall the drivers, download kies (Set all 3 kies processes to not start at boot, msconfig should do it). Only use it when you need to. let it update the drivers (note the new version n.o drivers for future ref) If that dont work uninstall the driver again, and then click scan for hardware changes, let windows update find it.
Failing that, I have quite a few driver packages I have collected with the odin setup zip that I can host on my skydrive just pm me.
Also when uninstalling drivers, and you run into problems delete the ghosted drivers as well, by default you wont see them.

[Q] Firmware update this weekend and S3 will no longer connect via USB to PC

I installed Verizon's latest firmware update when it popped up the other night. 4.1.2. I think that means I have Jelly Bean. Hooray.
Plugged my phone in to delete some songs and add some more and nothing happens. Phone just sits there. It beeps and starts charging, but doesn't pop up the USB Connection options I've been used to.
Traditionally when I plug my phone in it pops up and tells me it's plugged in as an "Installer". I hate this "feature" and wish it would default to MDP or whatever stupid new-fangled option that ICS forced (as opposed to good old "mass storage device" which is how these phones ought to connect, but I digress). However, now nothing happens.
I'm reasonably sure it's not Windows because my girlfriend's Razr and an un-updated Galaxy Nexus connect just fine. Furthermore I tried this on 2 Windows 8 and one Windows 7 machines.
Is there something I have to do to turn "on" USB connections? Kies crashes every time I try to enter the connection code so that's out and AirDroid is alright, but I'd rather this worked. Any suggestions?
Try uninstalling the drivers, reboot the laptop, then reinstall the drivers either from Samsung's website or from Kies if that doesn't work.

[Q] Tethering / driver problem N5 vs Win 8

Hi all
I've had my N5 a couple of weeks now, and it's working nicely, except for getting bluetooth and USB tethering to work smoothly. I wonder if anyone has any suggestions?
I can connect the phone to my laptop via USB (I'm running W8 x64, for my sins), and use MTP and PTP without a problem. Selecting USB tethering results in the phone saying "tethered", but nothing appearing in the list of network adapters.
I can pair the phone with the laptop, but the only services that seem to be offered are file-transfer and audio stuff.
If I enable USB debugging, the network shows on the laptop, and seems to work OK for a while. Sometimes the phone wants to reboot while doing this (typically after a couple of minutes).
Interestingly, Device Manager shows the phone as a Nexus 5 under the 'Other Devices' category only when USB debugging is enabled, otherwise it displays as 'ADB Device' only if 'PTP' is selected, and the phone is absent when 'MTP' is selected.
I'm guessing that this is a driver issue of some sort (I hate Windows), and have had a go at installing the LG United driver, to no avail. Any pointers gratefully received.
Cheers
Charlie
I'm having issues tethering with Windows 8, both wifi hotspot and USB tethering. I can connect and it will show up as internet connected then just die. Connection even goes on my phone.
However when USB tethering with OS X all I had to do was download a package from here http://joshuawise.com/horndis, after that it pops up straight away and I don't have any problems. Can tether for ages no problems.
Will probably try a custom rom soon see if it is to do with the Nexus 5 stock rom.
Hi Charlie,
I'm having the very same problem. With my Galaxy S3, I would tether (via BT, as it was a fast connection that didn't drain my battery like WiFi hotspot!) all day long with a Win8 ultrabook. Worked brilliantly!
Just picked up a Nexus 5 last night. My Nexus 7 tablet can use the phone's internet no problem, but my Win8 machine gives no such options. All I have is a "direct connection" service visible to the laptop, I suppose for file sharing.
Has anyone made any progress on this issue at all? It seems that the problem lies with Windows8. It boggles my mind why the Nexus 5's BT tethering implementation is so different than the GS3's...
Progress report: it seems I have tethering over BT working!
I've tried a bunch of different things... the challenge now, is to figure out what it was that worked...
I would try this first: remove the Bluetooth pairing between your PC and your Nexus 5. Ensure that "Bluetooth Tethering" is indeed checked in "Tethering and Portable Hotspot" menu (under Android settings) BEFORE pairing. That might be what I did wrong, in fact.
I restarted my PC, and voila, when right-clicking on the phone pairing on my PC, under the "Connect" menu, suddenly there's an "Access Point" service visible.
I'm pretty confident the above might fix you up.
[PS: If not, the only other thing I did differently when I first tried, was I paired the phone through Win8's buried bluetooth devices menu (avoiding the alternative MetroUI interface at all costs, as I normally do). I don't see any reason why using either UI should provide different results, but hey.]

[Q] Windows 8.1 connection issue

Hello everyone.
I am having issues with my Note being detected by my PC, I have installed Kies 3 and when the Note is connected the connection process starts but fails ( I tried using camera mode instead of MTP and Kies says It must be MTP so something is connecting), Also the device is detected in the device manager of the PC and the Note itself says its connected by USB 3.0.
I have updated, un-installed re-installed, all the drivers and Kies. I have also used a standar USB 2 cable and most of the ports on my PC.
Does anyone know what's going on? could it be a USB 3 issue with Windows?
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers
Gav
I've been having consistent issues connecting with the tablet through adb, on both linux (2 separate installs), and windows 8.1. Sometimes it just will not detect it. It gets detected as mtp storage fine, but adb devices returns nothing. Ill triple check all the relevant settings, make sure the computer has been authorized by the tablet etc. It will literally work just fine, and then 10 minutes later without even disconnecting the cable to using the tablet, it will no longer be detectable by adb.
I'm hoping it's just bugs in the release firmware that haven't been ironed out yet, and will disappear with future upgrades or with the flashing of a custom rom.
I've also had it refuse to charge through my laptops USB ports, even the special "faster charging" port.
It turns out my issue was the unit itself I took it back to JB-HiFi and the staff checked it out and it wouldn't connect to any of their PCs, we tried the Demo unit and it worked fine, So i exchanged it and it works perfectly..
Thanks for your reply though

[Q] Cant get Smart Switch to connect for backup. Help?

Hello, so I am on XtreStoLite 2.4 with my S6. Never any issues the whole time Ive ran it. However now that I have my Galaxy S8 which cant be rooted... trying to get the Smart Switch with USB connection to work.
It will NOT read up when I connect them directly, also will not connect via PC for smart switch to start its thing. (Smart Switch via wifi works, but that doesnt transfer any of my non play store apps)
Now I did try Smart switch on 2 different PCs. Both PCs DO read my S6 and I could transfer files just fine with explorer. So drivers and so are working fine. Even tried 3 USB cables and togged between usb debugging and off. I am in MTP mode as well.
Even in Smart Switch it will say "Connecting" because it detected the phone. Just never gets past that on the PC or the Galaxy S8. Just says the connection timed out and couldnt connect.
So just checking here if anyone may have any insight that may solve this. Thanks.

may be there is error on driver you installed , try remove old driver and install latest Samsung driver you can get it from :

Just "fixed" it by upgrading the to the Marshmallow version of XtreStolite. Seems it solved all the issues.
