Can the repair shop steal my personal data from a phone stuck at Samsung logo? - General Questions and Answers

My phone (Note 3) was stuck at Samsung logo so I couldn't remove or backup my data first.
Can he use any software to backup my data & steal them from recovery or download modes?
I never changed USB debugging settings. And didn't root my phone either.
I removed the SD card first, it was empty.
So can data be stolen from internal memory by ADB or something?
Sorry I'm really not experienced in this..
The guy took 1 hour to flash the rom twice as he said and it failed. It keeps stuck at Samsung logo again.
I only could get a glimpse of android upgrading screen after 20 minutes or so..but I don't know if he used anything to steal my data before flashing the phone.
After it failed i took the phone, tried flashing it with different roms by odin and it fails too after the android upgrading process. I had to factory reset and it worked after losing everything of course.
Only I'm worried about stealing my data as professionalism & conscience aren't the favorite things in my country unfortunately
Waiting for your help
Thanks a lot!

He can steal anything photos call logs messages anything if he wqntes. And by the conditions he flashed a rom for a different varient or a moded one.
Another possibility occurs that he fooled you by backing up your old firmware and then flashed it.
And yes he can steal anything.

No, they flashed official, it only bootlooped because of old conflicting data from the previous installation, that's why doing a factory reset made it work without bootlooping, factory reset removed the conflicting data and allow the device to boot properly.

If all you had was stock recovery and download mode then no, he couldn't steal your personal data.
ADB doesn't work with stock recovery on Samsung and it doesn't work with download mode. Your data should be safe.

Htc one s bootloop

Hi iv got a HTC ONE S, it is stuck on boot loop is there any way i can get my pictures and data off my phone? thanks
Can you get into the recovery? And are you running a custom recovery?
If you can get into your recovery(cwm or twrp) you can plug it into usb and mount it as usb storage.
If I helped in any way please hit thanks
Just fix the bootloop. Sounds like you gave up on it. Can you get into the bootloader? Hold volume down and power. Till the device shuts off. Then redo that method and poof. Hboot. If you can. What hboot version are you on?

I have the same problem, phone keep reboot and will not turn on, i can get into recovery, but can not get contact via USB, what am i doing wrong?
Any step by step how to get out pictures before setting it back to factory settings
recovery loop
Just rooted HTC One S TMOUS using Hasoon 2000's tool. tried CWM backup of rooted stock, then followed instructions for PA 2.52 + gapps. Got stuck on PA boot screen. Won't boot all way up.
Phone will only boot into recovery. adb reboot bootloader goes into recovery. can't get into hboot to restore stock using RUU.
Advice?
Thanks kindly.
Same Problem here.
I wanted to join a wifi-network, then the htc freezed and now it's in bootloop.
I still read some oder threads in the internet but not realy good ideas I like.
Does anyone know whats happening in HBoot when I use "Clear Storage"? Does he clear the phone-memory or the SD-Memory? Or anything else?

did anyone solve this? I have an unbranded unrooted HTC One S that is also stuck in a bootloop. I was just scanning the WIFI networks from settings and then the phone started looping by itself and only stopped after the battery was empty.
The phone is not modified in any way. I can get into hboot with power-volume down but then what? I don't really feel like doing a factory reset. Is there any other way out? Does the factory reset help?
Hi
I had the same problem and fixed it.
I made factory reset, then when i configured my Google account i disables the "sync Internet" Option.

Ya seen someone say that not sure if it was you but also some people have found having to many saved hotspots can also send you into a bootloop.
in my case for sure it was the google account cause i did factory reset, and had no saved hotspots and still it happened when i switched the wifi on\off after the factory reset(i mead got into boot-loop and needed a factory reset).
it is a serious bug\problem - i can't believe this can happen because of such a silly configuration.
the OS of HTC is not stabled at all!
If your bootloader is locked, then you dont have too many options re getting information off of your phone. Someone else may be able to post ideas. A factory reset may be your only option..
If you have already unlocked your bootloader, my suggestion would be to flash the latest TWRP Custom Recovery (google it). You can connect to your computer via usb through TWRP and access your sd card to get pictures, videos etc off of it.
Through TWRP you can also have access to adb.exe (ie using adb.exe commands and not just fastboot.exe commands, and thereby access all sorts of adb related commands (backups, linux shell, etc).
In order to actually fix the bootloop, well, usualy I find this is due to issues with the Kernel and custom ROM you are flashing (either one or the other), and so would reflash whatever worked before (ie a previous ROM or previous kernel).
But if this is all happening on a device you have not rooted nor flashed anything custom... Well, then that is a good question!

Ya I'm not saying what you said is wrong or didn't work for you but I do think I could be right about kongo09 and Bond246 issue since it did happen when dealing with wifi and seen a few people say the same thing.
I am in a bootloop. What i did to get the phone start is just press first down volume button then power button (keep holding them until the phone goes oof). Inmediatily when the phone go off, stop pressing anything. ANYTHING, BE FAST, and it will boot normally. I am now tryying to get the stock recovery to avoid this sht.

Did the factory reset make you lose all your data? As in: pictures etc? I have read varying stories regarding this, some say you lose it all, some say you don't.
I have some recordings of interviews on there that I really(!!!) cannot lose. Does anyone know if HTC has the possibility to recover files from a phone in this condition?

If you unlocked the bootloader then you could flash TWRP which will let you mount SD for the PC.

Unfortunately not... Unrooted, stock bootloader and all... I spent all day reading threads on different forums, but so far it seems that there is no other solution to this bootloop problem than just doing a factory reset. But like I said, I have some very important recordings on my phone and before I give up on them I want to make sure I tried everything.
If anyone knows of a way to root and flash a new bootloader without wiping all my data in the process, that would be highly appreciated.
Or if anyone knows whether it is possible to somehow approach the storage (maybe through Linux) while the phone is bootlooping (not normally recognized by computer).
But also: I would very much like to hear from people who have done a factory reset from the stock boot loader: has it wiped just your apps and app data? Or has it wiped your files as well (photos, music, recordings etc)?
Like I said: any info would be much appreciated...

Not much you can do then because even unlocking could wipe SD.
Not sure if its possible with a locked bootloader but you may want to try getting into your bootloader then try typing fastboot boot <working kernel file>
Replace the phrase "<working kernel file>" with a stock boot.img that you know works.
As you can see this command is different from fastboot flash boot <working kernel file>.
This may get you out of the bootloop if you had kernel issues, and may allow you to load a kernel temporarily. Not sure if it works on locked bootloaders but it might.
If all you can access is the bootloader and fastboot, then you really have to play around with fastboot commands. See http://android-dls.com/wiki/index.php?title=Fastboot for the list.
Good luck!

Stock bootloader, same bootloop scenario - factory reset wiped everything including photos, music, other files. Clear storage seems to keep everything except the installed apps and configuration. It's the 4th time I'm doing it unfortunately :

[Q] [HELP] AT&T broke my phone (for now)

In an attempt to collect more data for this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50666286&postcount=192, I made a new backup, and began restoring previous backups to identify when I had good WiFi speeds. I restored my stock ROM backup, and before I could even run any speed tests, AT&T jammed an update down my throat. No way to abort/postpone. Needless to say, I'm stuck in recovery. No matter which backup I restore, I can't get anywhere. My thoughts are that the update file is still somewhere on the phone, which is why nothing will get me past recovery. Does anybody know what the file is called and where it would be located? I'd like to exhaust every option before resorting to completely wiping everything.
Other thoughts: Is it possible to flash the stock recovery by itself? This would at least allow the update to happen.
Thanks.
What recovery are you using? This might help if you're using TWRP.

Perfect. Thank You.
Glad you got it working I don't know why carriers and lg find it okay to push updates to our device really without asking I've heard where people say no to the update and it installs it anyway I think its a bad business practice

[Q] Flashing no longer possible: Flash successful but system does not change

Hello!
I can no longer flash anything to my GT-P5110, even factory reset has no effect. The internal storage seems to be read-only.
I think this is a longer story: About one year ago the stock firmware became incredibly slow, to the point that processes started to force close, then my user data was lost, and after factory reset the tablet went into endless boot loop.
So I decided to give CM10 a try and it worked flawlessly. The tablet was fast again. I even could upgrade to CM11 later. But around 2 month ago, only sometimes processes started to force-close or the tablet randomly rebooted itself - mostly during charging. I left it that way in the charger for some days because I had no time to bother with that issue. Then, I tried to factory reset my device only to find out that this has absolutely no effect. Installing app updates: No effect. Changing system settings: No effect. And apps start to force-close at an insane rate short after boot. The device is unusable. My could only shut down and reboot into recovery. I left the tablet lying around, turned off, out of charger, for 2 months. Now I tried to investigate:
When I "adb shell" into recovery and call dmesg, I see lots of these lines:
Code:
mmcblk0: timed out sending SET_BLOCK_COUNT command, card status 0x400d00
I think something is really broken with the internal storage. I tried to flash a newer recovery but it has no effect, even when done from download mode.
Factory reset sometimes fails with an error. Reinstalling CM fails with an error. Wiping cache seemingly succeeds but I'm sure it has no effect. I tried installing SlimRom instead which seemingly succeeds, too - but after reboot I'm greeted with the CM boot logo again.
I tried to flash stock firmware with Odin. It is very very slow, runs for about 15 minutes, then fails at around 50%. Of course: That "half flashed firmware" does in no way affect the device: It still boots CM11 "without problems", then a few seconds after finishing boot (showing home screen), force-closes start to pop-up.
What should I do? I suppose the device is out of warranty for a few weeks or months, now. And even when not: It has been flashed with CM, the triangle counter is not zero. I suppose that combination of problems (read-only/failing storage, non-stock firmware) voids warranty in a way that Samsung will deny any repair. If at least I could return the device to stock firmware things would be different maybe.
Any ideas what I could try? Is it possible that the internal storage is simply fried? fsck'ing the partitions shows no errors, just the data partition is unclean with unwritten journal data but all data is readable. So the internal storage has probably not died. It just sticks to read-only mode for whatever reason.
I've found some posts with similar problems but those seem to be about older Galaxy Tab 1 devices built 2011 or before.
Just reading over this and it sounds very similar to what I'm currently facing, which is doubly annoying as no one else has chipped in a solution
I had reboot issues with my Tab2 10.1 (GT-P5110) on stock so after realizing I'd need to factory reset bite the bullet and rooted so I could use CM10.
Had occasional reboots but nothing I couldn't live with however from yesterday evening the tablet is seemingly stuck in a boot loop. It comes on, some apps fire up and an update starts. Sometimes apps force close then BOOM I get the boot splash screen.
I've tried factory reset in recovery (CWM 6.0.2.7) to no avail and wiping just about everything which also had no noticeable effect as all my settings and the rom are still the same when I get back in (albeit briefly!).
I've tried flashing new recovery via ODIN which reported a success however that also didn't appear to take. I'm beginning to think it some serious file system or storage corruption ;(
Same problem here...
Hopefully someone can come up with a solution or at least a cause. I've tried to Odin every recovery available for my 5113 and nothing has taken. I'm currently on Omni with cwm and tried to update to the latest cwm and twrp and aroma installer yet nothing takes. I too rooted because of the incessant bootloops about 3 months ago.

For what I can tell, my device is effectively read-only. Even in download mode (Odin) I cannot even flash a different recovery (tried to flash TWRP, still boots CWM).

exactly, can't even uninstall an app. It's as if it boots from a permanent back up because even deleting pictures or files isn't permanently successful. You can uninstall and delete to your hearts content, get false hope, and get crushed after it reboots and everything is unchanged
Not looking very optimistic for this I was getting a similar inkling that it's gone into a permanent RO mode as not even the wipes from recovery have an effect. I'd also tried un-installing apps as I noticed one updating and thought it was crashing it however even when it did fire up and I disabled WLAN to stop Play Store auto-updating and removed the app on the next reboot cycle the app was back:crying::crying:
I fear I may have a big white paperweight....
Sounds like the internal partitions might need to be completely reformatted. This CAN be done through recovery, but is tricky... However without actually having your device in my hand I'm not sure 100 what the best course of action would be. Try searching for the commands to format (or maybe someone else will post them) or maybe PM me for them but no promises. I won't post them publicly on XDA because honestly there are too many users who do stuff like one-click root and don't actually know what they're doing and I don't want to be in some way responsible for someone following the command wrong and bricking their device for good. I don't need that on my conscience. Personal choice.

Would this method be any different to the way it attempts to reformat the internal partitions when you select to format the various mounts from CWM? If so I'm more then willing to give it a go as I really have nothing to lose as the damn thing is useless atm!

Marshmellow troubles after update, phone is now paper weight

Hey guys
I have a Galaxy s6, model number SM-G920W8 (Canadian series). I have had it for about a year and a half with absolutely no problems, worked great. I upgraded from lollipop to Marshmellow 6.01 and it essentially became a paper weight. It will now randomly freeze or restart constantly throughout the day making it pretty much unusable.
I can consistently get it into ODIN download mode, hold power/volDown to restart, and get into the reset options...thankfully. I have tried a few things to fix it with no luck. I have tried putting images on with the same model number but the only one that has worked is one that had 6.01 on it so not an improvement (still have the freezing and restart issues).
What I am asking for is help in going down "the dark path" ... rooting my phone, making a recovery partition, new image .....stuff like that because I have gotten very frustrated with this phone so far and am willing to stray pretty far away from the "standard" firmware if it means I will have a stable phone again.
The stupidest thing is that it worked fine until the update and instead of improving my phone, the update made it unusable.
Anyways, any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
some more information about the phone
Device: SM-G920W8
ROM name: not sure, I am new to this
ROM version and base: not sure here either
Build number: MMB29K.G920W8VLU3CPF2
kernel version and its settings: 3.10.61-7747511 [email protected] #1
Android version: 6.01
not sure what else is needed
Lol the dark path.
Have you tried a factory reset? Simplest & quickest way to resolve problems. Just make sure you back up anything you want to keep - music, photos, etc. - by copying to your PC. You'll lose things like text messages, so if they're of any value (or if you're a hoarder) then you might want to investigate backup tools.
Sent from my SM-G920W8 using Tapatalk
Yeah, factory reset was one of the first things I tried. (just to be clear this is in the <Vol up, power, home button> options corrects) I did it and lost my data because at the time it was getting really bad. My phone also starts generating a lot of heat which I figured is not a good thing.
So far I have ODIN 3.10. Using it and CF-Auto-Root-zerofltebmc-zerofltebmc-smg920w8.tar.md5, I can root my phone. I have been trying to get TWRP working so that I can flash easier but so far it freezes when I try to enter it. Any words of wisdom?
Thanks

I recommend downloading Samsung Kies and try reinitializing firmware option.
Put your phone in download mode.
Just remember to write down your phone's serial number because it will ask for it.
Use capital letters: SM-G920W8
And then serial number. Then it will download the latest firmware straight from Samsung (super fast download speeds too). And flash it for you. Hope this works for you.

Using this TWRP?

Ok using this guide (http://www.technobuzz.net/easiest-way-to-install-twrp-recovery-on-galaxy-s6-or-s6-edge/) and a TWRP found here: https://twrp.me/devices/samsunggalaxys6.html I think I found a TWRP that is working . I used the "Canada" one and I seem to be able to boot into it ok. Is there a very stable ROM I could flash using TWRP (I am not exactly sure how to use it). Also, since the galaxy s6 does not have a SD card, should I just download the ROM to the phone itself... with my freezing issues that could be a problem. Could I download it on my PC, plug my phone in and transfer it quickly through USB... I normally have about 30 seconds to a minute of usable time before it freezes.
Also tried downloading Kies, it tried connecting for quite a while then said device was not responding....
Do not use Samsung Kies, use Samsung Smart Switch which is the successor to Kies.
This is how it's done -
I just finished reinstalling the firmware on my S6 via Smart Switch a few days ago. Fixed some annoying issues I had along with improved battery runtime.
Just remember to charge your phone to 100% first and use the original USB cable from Samsung. Third party cables can mess things up (I learnt it the hard way after bricking some of my older Android devices).

Glad to hear TWRP is working.
I use XtreStoLite Deo Mod edition, very versatile. I use stock kernel b/c I'm lazy. ?
I use a USB OTG flash drive - copy files from PC to stick, then install directly from the stick in TWRP (there's an option to choose location). This allows full wiping of everything, including internal storage. I firmly believe that most ppl have trouble b/c they have residual files in internal storage that cause them grief.
Good luck.

Just a thought, you might want to Odin the latest W8 stock ROM (from Bell, since Rogers is behind) and skip the whole "update modem/bootloader" section of the installation. More successes this way. Use the Windows tool SamFirm to download it.

Hi, I've been meaning to write this since 2016 or 2017, I think, butI think I can still remember all the important details of this crisis...
So I had rooted this 'Galaxy Avant' phone originally so I could disable/remove the extra stuff of the systems' in the hopes of improving the phones' performance, but I didn't change the OS from whag metropcs gave me at that time. I also had a password and/or a pin lock on both the sd card, startup, and internal memory. Everything was okay until I ran into a wifi issue where it wasn't connecting to a semi-public wifi hotspot, so I thought if I cleared the wifi apps' cache the issue would go away. Trouble was I didn't know that the wifi cache wasfor some reasin the same as the system's cache, and a few seconds after clearing it, my phone crashed, and continued to restart itself. So I panicked and tried removing the password/pin locks for easier backup to recovery/resetting. Well the external sdcard managed to decrypt, but when I proceeded to attempt the same for the device, it decided to factory reset itself.
I lost nearly everything from that event. I did periodic backups to the sd card but not daily and since that phone was also responsible for my own memory retention, at least a month or two of my soul is still missing. Any new contact, commitment, itinerary, life decision, goal, deadline, or other important note from that time was wiped and can't be found anywhere else, and I still don't know who else is or was affected from this (especially if I had just made their acquaitance).
So all that to say I must get this device back to how it was before the cache-wiping incident. The phone hasn't been turned on since, except to dump the system image onto my linux desktop. With testdisk I can see what I assume are the deleted partitions from before the factory reset, but I don't know how to undelete+decrypt them and/or copy them back to the device. Please tell me honestly that there's a way to do this, and what that way is. My functioning really depends on it...

Go to Sammobile .com or samsung-updates .com, enter your model number in their search feature to find your stock firmware. If you can find the firmware, you can use Odin to flash the firmware to restore the device to normal function.

Thanks, but the device already functions normally; it reset itself to factory defaults, after all.
I just want to be able to restore the device to as it was before the accidental cache wipe—apps as they were, files, and all...

Oh, you mean you want to recover your lost data. All I can say is try some data recovery software on PC, there isn't any guarantee that it will work though. Data recovery on android is not very reliable.
