[Q] [HELP] AT&T broke my phone (for now) - AT&T LG G2

In an attempt to collect more data for this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50666286&postcount=192, I made a new backup, and began restoring previous backups to identify when I had good WiFi speeds. I restored my stock ROM backup, and before I could even run any speed tests, AT&T jammed an update down my throat. No way to abort/postpone. Needless to say, I'm stuck in recovery. No matter which backup I restore, I can't get anywhere. My thoughts are that the update file is still somewhere on the phone, which is why nothing will get me past recovery. Does anybody know what the file is called and where it would be located? I'd like to exhaust every option before resorting to completely wiping everything.
Other thoughts: Is it possible to flash the stock recovery by itself? This would at least allow the update to happen.
Thanks.

What recovery are you using? This might help if you're using TWRP.

Perfect. Thank You.

Glad you got it working I don't know why carriers and lg find it okay to push updates to our device really without asking I've heard where people say no to the update and it installs it anyway I think its a bad business practice

[Q] Cloning a Phone configuration

I have recently started dabbling with rooting my phone and guess what- I LOVE IT!...I have been having so much fun getting the phone streamlined without the unnecessary apps and getting a faster response from the phone, that I want to do it for my wife's phone as well. She has the same HTC Hero and has been complaining of the poor response of her phone for a while. I want to clone my phone on her phone while I keep playing with the configurations and improvements on my phone. Is there a way to migrate all the changes I have done on mine into her phone seamlessly? I was thinking of some sort of nandroid backup made on mine, being used on hers- (I am a noob, so play nicely )
As far as I know, although I've never tested it...
If you root her phone and put the same recovery image on her phone (albeit Clockwork, Amon_Ra, or Darch) then it SHOULD successfully restore a nandroid image made on your phone. It might be easiest to just pop your sdcard into her phone when you restore your nandroid, that way you take no chances on the files being corrupted in the process.
The only problem I see with this is that if you restore a rom onto another phone, you'll in turn have to delete your sync data afterwards and then redo the setup with her gmail, etc etc.
Hope this helps and good luck! Glad you're enjoying your phone!
Doesnt work, I tried to use a nandroid of Fresh 2.4 from my wifes phone so I could update PRL and I kept getting errors
Both are HTC Hero's
It did boot up and all, but data and all that was messed up, maybe if he edited the build prop to match her phone?

Perhaps. But I wouldn't think so. If that was the case wouldn't you have to manually edit them everytime you flashed? I thought that data was kept on a separate partition... am I wrong?

No clue as to why it didnt work for me but it didnt...
When I had my phone replaced, I saved the nandroid from my original phone, used the same SD card, and had "my" phone back up and running in no time.
This shouldn't be an issue really.
My only question is, why not have the wife pick her ROM, theme, apps, customizations for herself?

I think the key word is "my" The nandroid I took from my wifes Hero worked for her phone. I had nandroided back and did a PRL update on her phone. I took that same file and placed it on my Hero and did the nandroid, it booted and everything Excited I went to update PRL and tried but kept getting a error. I tried to update profile and would get the same error.
Why?
Can it work if it got edited?
I dont know, I think it builds something on first boot that takes your info (cant remember what its called) and when trying to connect it needs that info. If it doesnt match what the ROM is telling the network thats where the errors come from, atleast I think, lol.
Try it, maybe it just didnt work for me.
I agree with riggsandroid though, flash her a clean install and let her pick and choose what she wants
Why not just use titanium backup on one, then restore it on the other? Unless I'm misunderstanding the problem.

wifi error on every ROM

long story short, my phone was shipped with prerelease software. After rooting and flashing a customer recovery, my original nandroid was corrupted.
The only option for me now is custom ROMs, but unfortunately my wifi gives me an error on every single ROM available.
Anyone know of a quick fix?
The only thing i can think of that would solve the issue is to possible flash the stock US ROM once it's available, then hopefully that would fix my wifi issues and i'd be able to flash to any other ROM with no problem.
Alternatively - could someone please post a flashable ZIP of the stock ROM, or at least post a stock nandroid that i would be able to restore onto my phone to see if the wifi issue gets resolved.
Did flashing the stock img work

I have a fix for you. I'm releasing it tomorrow though.
I'm releasing a stock T-Mobile nandroid final firmware and newest software.
I'm also releasing a rooted version.

Always
After doing a bit of reading, it seems as though some people have having similar issues. The exception is that theirs is doing this while stock, and updating their router firmware fixed the problem. My phone connected to my router perfectly fine while stock...the problem didn't occur until i flashed the first custom ROM.

It's because all roms now are based on European firmware not T-Mobile firmware.
Tomorrow I'm uploading the first ever T-Mobile Rom and it'll fix everybodys problem.

Definitely sounds like a firmware or driver issue. Have you tried resetting your router or updating its firmware? Also, what kernel version are you running.

tried connecting to a different router on update stock firmware and teh issue still exists.
I was hoping that with the stock TMO-US ROM the problem would be fixed, but unfortunately not.
Now i have really no idea. It's impossible for me to live without wifi on my phone for good.

Do this:
1. Delete /data/misc/wifi folder using a file browser.
2. Clear cache using recovery. Reboot. Wifi will regenerate its data.
3. Try wifi again.
Let me know if this works. It's a shot in the dark so I don't know if that's gonna work for you, since you already seem to have performed a fac reset.

Thanks for the tip, unfortunately this didn't work either. I'm totally out of ideas at this point. Might just end up exchanging the phone and paying the out of warranty fee if they find out the boot loader was unlocked. Not really sure what's left for me to try.

I did within ten minutes of you posting it. Unfortunately it did not solve the problem. I thought that would be the fix...
One thing I didn't notice was a clear description of the problem. Please describe what your issue is. You say the wifi gives you an error. What does that mean?
Please describe everything in detail from start to finish, before trying to return it.
WiFi will turn on, display available networks, once a network is selected it will not connect and then says "error"
then after about ten seconds the phone will reboot, then reboot after it turns on. never-ending.
only way to have the phone work is to do a master reset, but the problem starts again when you attempt to.connect to WiFi.
also the phone will not stay off when stuck in the WiFi reboot loop. if i choose "power down" it will turn off, then turn back on within 10 seconds.
That sounds very very strange. Almost like a kernel error (unlikely since kernel is included w/ ROMs), a radio issue (more likely), or a hardware issue (most likely, in my opinion). If you've already done a full wipe and wiped /system and /sdcard to be sure, then it sounds like you've done your due diligence.
At this point you might want to go ahead and reflash the stock ROM (see Reviewer's post with a nandroid of the stock ROM), reflash the stock recovery, and relock the bootloader. Unless someone else can chime in here. Also, if you return it, there's no promises that they won't look for TAMPERED or anything in the bootloader, so beware. The important thing is to have the stock software and recovery loaded and it relocked. Then they can flash it in the store, and it'll probably fail, in which case they may replace it.

Yeah i'm clueless. I've literally done absolutely EVERYTHING that i could imagine to fix the issue.
I actually work for T-Mo, we dont have any abilities to flash anything in store. Also exchanging the phone is a little bit more difficult for me, because the phone was not purchased through tmobile, it was given to me by HTC a week before launch.
Either way, I'm going to reload all the shipping stuff when i get home tonight then go ahead and try to process an exchange. Worst case scenario they will charge me ~100 bucks as an out of warranty fee. (due to having the *TAMPERED* logo on the bootloader scren. Although I'm fairly certain they don't check that, they shoudl only check for physical/liquid damage. I have processed many exchanges for rooted customers, who had manufacturer defects.
also another thing i just noticed, my baseband is: 0.15.31501S , but my friends retail version is 0.16.
any way for me to update this?
Early Adopters
I just got the One S myself and I'm a bit forlorn from the lack of available ROMS. Then again when I was in the Apple Ecosystem, there was no ROMS, just tweaks so different environment different timelines I guess.
Not sure if it can help in this case, but this solved my wifi error problem.
I had a "wifi error", my One S coudn't connect any AP.
The problem was a bad permision on the file /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf.
Logcat gave me that :
"Cannot set RW to /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf"
So, using Es Explorer (as root), i changed the chmod of this file to rw-rw-rw and wifi started to work again. (no reboot needed in my case).
Hope this help.

[Q] 4.2 to 4.3 Saving App Data

I have a possibly simple yes or no question in the case there is no alternative. So, I am currently running 4.2.2 PAC-Man Rom and I want to update to the 4.3 version of it. Technically, speaking, I have no issues in updating the ROM itself. The problem is when I try to keep my app data moving from 4.2.2 to 4.3. Whenever I try to restore data via Titanium Backup, the phone will allow it, but upon the next shutdown, will not boot again. Likewise, I have also tried to flash 4.3 and then do an advanced restore via CWM and only restore data. This has the same results as the previous option in that I can boot the phone, but if I shut it off, it won't restart. Basically, I can keep and install the original app apks, but the moment I try to restore any form of app data from the previous iteration of the ROM, my phone will refuse to restart. This predicament is met on any 4.3 ROM I have tried. I have never had this problem before, as I have been able to move from 4.1.2 to 4.2.1 to 4.2.2 (I suppose 4.3 is different?). This brings me to my question, is it possible to keep app data moving from 4.2 to 4.3? I fear I already know the answer. In any case, thank you for your time.
Tl;DR
When moving to 4.3, restoring app data from previous rom (PAC-man 4.2.2) causes the phone to lose the inability to boot. Is there any way to keep app data, or is it a lost cause? Thank you for your time.
One thing that comes to mind is are you restoring any system data? That causes problems.
Other than that I would download and install all my apps through the app store and reboot.
Then make a restore image to fall back on so you don't have to repeat these steps.
Now start restoring you app data SELECTIVELY. And restore app data ONLY. And do it one by one and reboot. This is the only way I know that can pin point the problem or the one restore data piece causing you problem.
Identifying it is the hardest part, any better ideas are welcomed.
Once identified just avoid that one app as your migration casualty.
Good luck,

What recovery are you using? If it's not TWRP 2.6.0.3 or newer, or the custom CWM provided by Team Chopsticks, you will continue to have this problem. Also, it has absolutely nothing to do with restoring data.
Fixed XD
Okay, so I have been doing nandroid backups the whole time, so I haven't really lost anything. I did try to install apps using Google Play and it would cause the same problem that restoring data only via cwm would. That said, I got bored and just left the phone boot looping and slept for 5 hours. Interestingly enough, upon checking on it later, it had in fact booted and it did function. Naturally, I reverted back to 4.2 and tried to upgrade again, this time timing it. Over all, it took about 1 hour for the phone to stop bootlooping and actually boot up. I don't really know what is wrong, but hey, it works. Nevertheless, I would like to thank you guys for your input. Sorry that my problem wasn't actually what I thought it was. :/ Good day.

This is due to the recovery version you are on as the guy before your last post indicated. It has nothing to do with your restoration of data, but rather the recovery used to flash the rom and the way it's handling the partitions.
Long story short, update your recovery to one of the ones indicated two posts above mine and you should be good to go.

[Q] Need Help after rooting implosion

UPDATE: 07-04-14 5:25pm EST:
I was able to get all my data off using a mac. I re-flashed Purity ROM after doing a full wipe. I have now re-installed all most of my apps and have begun normal use. For now this is resolved hopefully I have no further issues. Thanks for the response @Kreateablaze Much appreciated.
So here is a brief history about what I did and what I am experiencing. I am pretty much a newb here so please be gentle and excuse my ignorance.
Just in case you don't want to read my book below:
TLDR: rooted phone, Installed TWRP, installed Purity Rom, system failed hardcore, cant get data off my phone because explorer crashes. I just want to get my data off so I can re-install a ROM or just flash back to stock and re-lock the bootloader.....
-Unlocked bootloader, rooted, and installed TWRP using "Wug's Nexus Root Toolkit"
(just want to give props to any one involved in that tool, it is an amazing tool and worked flawlessly!)
-After running the toolkit, I was successfully rooted and running TWRP.
-I ran a back up using TWRP. Is that what is referred to as a "Nandroid" back up?
-After running this back up I installed "Purity ROM"
-For the first 24 hours everything was fine.
-I had to reboot my N5 due to an app that was acting up and a reboot usually cleared up the issue if force stopping didn't. (an app I used before rooting and I knew how to fix the issue I was having, I don't think this is related to my issue.)
-After rebooting the phone, I was faced with a pop up stating something along the lines of android UI has stopped working. I clicked okay, unlocked the phone it flashed black with my home screen icons and everything went back to normal. I rebooted the phone again just to make sure that was a one time fluke. This time The phone was in an endless crash cycle. Every process I could think of was crashing non stop the phone was unusable. I did some research and found something that said to go into TWRP and run a permissions repair.
-After running permissions repair my phone booted back up and was working relatively okay.
-After the repair rebooting my N5 results in that same UI crash I got the first time. BUT the phone is usable, and that process never crashes again unless I reboot.
-After running that permissions repair some of my apps disappeared. Trying to re-install them results in a -24 error. I got a few of them to re-install by clearing related data in data/data folder. A few of my apps refuse to re-install even though there is no trace of the data in the data/data folder.
-Another issue I am having after all of this is that I can NOT pull any data off of the phone. I plug it in, Windows recognizes the phone but it takes about 10-15 minutes to load the folder structure. I am then unable to copy any of the data off of the phone. Explorer crashes and I cant get the data off. UPDATE: I was able to get the data of the phone by using a friends Mac. I will post an update with some more info.
-I need to get my data off the phone before I can continue but am unable to. Any help would here would be greatly appreciated.
-Also if any one knows a more stable ROM with a similar feature set to Purity that is fast, has good battery life and isn't packed to the gills with features tht may one day cause more issues that they are worth. Please let me know.
Thanks in advance for any help you guys may be able to offer me.
Well I'm not too sure what your issue could be, but purity is one of the most stable roms on here... Have you looked in the purity thread for posts saying the same thing happened? I highly doubt it is the rom.

I would definitely agree that something went wrong rather than the ROM being unstable..... Any idea about how to get my data off the phone. at this point that is my main concern so I can re-flash purity....

[Q] Help please. Accidentally deleted Blinkfeed and phone won't boot

I was mucking around with Titanium Backup and froze (*not uninstalled) Blinkfeed. Unfortunately, this caused my phone to crash. Now it will not boot. I am able to get it into CWM recovery, but I never made a .zip to recover from and now I just feel stupid. Is there any way to recover this?
Am I able to do a factory reset in order to get the phone working again? (And also, will this remove my root) The data I'm not terribly concerned about. All important pictures have been backed up already and there are no documents that are dire. I just need a working phone.
Thank you for any help you can provide!
I would just put a rom zip onto a microSD and flash that.
Although I wouldn't have thought that freezing BlinkFeed would crash your phone and get it stuck in a bootloop, so what do I know?
Performed a factory reset and that doesn't seem to have fixed the problem.
I'm going to look into flashing a rom but that is something I haven't done before and I'm not too comfortable with it.
Do you have any suggestions? I just want to keep the standard stuff (what it was shipped with). I was mainly rooting to get rid of bloatware and have a bit more freedom.
EDIT: Rebooted a second time and the factory reset seems to have taken hold. I'm back at square one but it is far better than nothing.
EDIT2: Not quite back at square one as my backup through Titanium Backup still existed and I was able to utilize that. Lost some contacts, call history, and texts. That's all!
Glad to hear that you were able to fix it. If you ever need a stock Sense rom, I would recommend CleanRom. Watch out though, its really easy to become a flashaholic
