What is out there for s8 plus. - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

hey community. Im thinking to send my dinosaur phone into a cage and get a new beast s8 plus.
i was thinking to get some kind of a background and knowledge about this phone. of course i read some reviews went over specs prior posting this here.
what im interested in the most if there is any stable roms out for this phone? is it difficult to flash?
maybe someone here already went through those questions before and will be happy to share what they found or maybe even better to post their own experience with this.

[Thank You] Thank you. You saved me.

Hello XDA!
I opened this account to say thank you.
Last week I bought a new Samsung Galaxy S4 (T-Mobile, m919) and began rooting it. The guides I read made no mention of the KNOX issue and I wound up with a soft-bricked phone.
I can't even begin to describe how I felt. I was literally sick to my stomach thinking I had just bricked a brand new phone.
Thanks to the guides and discussions found here on XDA (and a few on other forums, but mostly here) I was able to recover my system to stock and new phone is up and running again. This whole thing has been an emotional roller coaster, but also a learning experience. I feel much more informed now and confident that I have a place to find answers when I have a question.
I owe you all a big thanks.
I opened this account to thank you and be able to click the thank button from now on.
AND, I'll go out on a limb here and say thank you on behalf of thousands, if not millions of other lurkers who have gotten help here and just not taken the time to say thanks.
You guys ROCK. I don't even want to think about what would be happening to me right now had I not found this place.
Cool.
You can give back to the community by helping others who own that phone and run into similar issues in the Q&A forum. :good:
Your welcome
Always good to hear a happy outcome
Programming is a race between engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the Universe is winning.
i know the feeling, had the GS4 for 3 days before i soft bricked it.
had no idea that the update that recently came the day before locked the bootloader.
After searching threads here for a bit figured it out and was able to get to stock and "undo" my stupidity.
XDA , its devs and contributors are a priceless resource.

[Completed] [Q] Sprint Note 3 flashed to Boost Mobile ROM

Hello, i have a SM-N900P note 3 originally on sprint, now flashed to Boost Mobile. I bought it brand new. It has android version 4.4.2 and im wanting to update to Lollipop on either a official version, or unofficial....whichever more stable. I paid a person to flash it to boost and he did so remotely, ive attempted to contact him for information on his process but have not been responded to. It is rooted and has TWRP and a full nandroid back up.
Please help me, im scared to try flashing a rom then ruining the ''boost flash''.
I can attatch pictures from my About Device if safe and helpful.
Hi
Thanks for writing to us at XDA Assist. Paying someone to alter your device has left you in a position where you have a modified phone but no knowledge on how it got to that state or how to proceed. I firmly believe that if you can't take the time to learn how to do these things for yourself then you shouldn't be doing them at all. Having a modified phone, and working with a modified phone, requires a certain level of knowledge, it requires research, it requires work. Now you can see that taking the easy way initially hasn't really benefited you in the long run. Anyway, you have a lot of learning to do, Samsung phones can be especially difficult to modify due to the way that they're locked down. You're going to need to head over to the Sprint Note 3 section and start doing as much reading as you can. I can't really point to one specific thread because there's so much information that you need to take in. If you get stuck though there's a q&a section that you can ask for help in. Here's a link to the Sprint Note 3 device forum:

Lol look man, I am very familiar with flashing stock Roms and custom roms. As well as most other device modifications. I reached out for advice in hopes of hearing someone's output that may have already done this type of procedure.with that being said,if I can afford to pay someone to do what I may simply not have TIME to do,then that's my prerogative. These forums are to help people, not to write a reply that is in no way helpful. Maybe you should be the one that needs to do more reading. ☺??
P.s.
I have a Galaxy Note 3 flashed to Boost Mobile and pay only $35 a month, I'd say I was very benefited. Lmfao ???? You mad bro? ???

You came here for help and yet you LOL at the help....
Sounds like you take your device back to the carrier and stay stock but you also stated you are familiar with flashing, and yet you are "scared".
And sounds like you should be doing the reading, after all you came here to ask, vice searching and reading for yourself. Nevertheless
Good Luck and Thread Closed.

Hello,
timmaaa pointed you in the right direction, and as he suggested you will get more help posting your question in the device specific forum.
XDA Assist is not a "Support" forum it is to guide new users to areas they can find the help they need.
Please post your question in the link above or the Sprint Note 3 Q&A section to get the answer/help you are looking for.
Thread closed.
Thanks for understanding,

Rooting my SM-G30V

Hello all!
New to the site and new to android (relatively speaking). For the last 7 years, I have been trapped with Apple and decided to pick up a 2nd line so I can get a rooted android phone. Should have done my research before hand and I will definitely know for next time but after hours of trying to root my S7, found out.... I need to unlock bootloader. Great! Start searching around and I am reading conflicting posts and forums. Some say you can others say you can't. I have seen a post here from about 5 months ago saying it is now possible, however, they provided no information on how to do it. Please excuse my noobness but this is my first attempt at rooting. This phone is a junk phone mainly used for me to screw around with as my real personal phone is still my apple. Can anyone provide help? Is it possible? If so, what steps or anyone have any guides I can go follow? Links and or information would be greatly appreciated!! Been trying all week with no luck.
Is it possible... kind of but its shouldn't be your daily, should you do it based on your noobness... no.

Never said this was my daily please read again as this is a junk phone for me to destroy and screw around with. I am a developer so just because I am a noob doesn't mean I am technologically illiterate either This just is something I never looked into before since I have had an apple phone for my personal usage for the last 7 years and it was something I have never been interested in doing until recently. I actually bought this phone with the intention of rooting, however I didn't do my homework as I thought pretty much any android would be able to be rooted.
Thank you for your time to reply though but I did find the thread as it was in a different forum section and I will give that a try.
You my friend have can to the right place. Xda will be your main go to from this point on when it comes to your Android device related Intel needs.
Check this area of the site. It's directed to owners of the Verizon S7 Variant (G930V)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s7
You will find the info you need there to do what your looking for. Be sure that when u are flashing and messing with files that you get firwares/files that are for your particular model and also check build numbers and stuff like that. Do your research before making any attempts at something your unsure of. Ask questions. Community Members will be glad to help.
Have fun and be careful

Discussions about Android 7 vs Android 6 for SGS7?

Many previous Samsung flagship phones have had TERRIBLE user experiences with new major Android releases. My S7 (Exynos on Tmobile) has been prompting me to download and install Android 7, and I don't want to! Not while I'm not convinced it's gonna be a worse experience over the now smooth Android 6 it is currently running. My last phone was the S4, and the upgrade from Android 4 to 5 was terrible for everyone. I ran a Danvd 4.4.4 and that's about as good as it got for the S4.
I also don't trust Google to get any major Android revision right until Android x.1 Not gonna be a Google beta tester for my daily driver!
So, I am looking around here to see if there is any discussion about the upgrade from Android 6 to Android 7, from Samsung, and I'm a bit surprised to not see one.
Am I missing something?
So does everyone love Android 7.0 or should folks be waiting for Android 7.1 ?
You're not looking very far if you can't find any discussion about Nougat 7.0, that's just about all people are discussing now
If you don't like it, flash back to MM with ODIN
Nougat is IMO quicker and more optimised than MM now, better settings UI, better in just about everything, I flashed back to MM a while ago and didn't enjoy it one little bit, big clunky and childish compared to Nougat
one response with a bit of snark..... so... you don't know then, right? thanks.
Not looking to root, so flashing Nougat for a try and then flashing back is not possible.
This would specifically be a topic on accepting the factory upgrade to Nougat from Marshmallow; where most of the opinions here about Nougat are discussed in threads about custom ROMs.
In years past, this specific kind of discussion would have its own thread. Hunting for opinions on this throughout 100s of threads is just not going to work.
One snarky response because of the retarded question
Go read some threads, you obviously haven't

You are an asshole. Already did plenty of looking around, and there are no threads to facilitate discussion on how well received the general rollout is. You don't understand the ask, so just move along if you don't like a question.
For those interested:
Here is some pertinent stuff. It's mostly beta discussion.... Feb rollout by around post count 80
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/how-to/samsung-s7-nougat-final-ota-t3532213
The usual stuff: Not much love at all for Samsung's Nougat rollout. Lot's of reports of annoying bugs, bad batter life, etc.
Also, there is some better discussions about the wide Nougat rollouts in US-carrier-specific sub-forums.

My attitude mirrors that of the person I am talking to, take a look in the mirror.
Dude, STFU! What are you, 12 years old? I asked some simple questions, and you started right out with your juvenile ****. grow up!
Moderators, could you please close and remove this useless thread? Thanks to this asshat!
Dude? And you're calling me 12? lmao
Next time you start a thread, make sure you've read a few first
You wonder why no-one else has replied here, why your thread isn't a huge hit? Because it is attempting to start a subject being discussed all over the S7 forums in multiple threads already, but you would have known that if you'd read a few first.
You really think you can come late in the game to a forum as huge as XDA, to the busy S7 forums, where MM has been already upgraded to Nougat for most people, and think you are going to be the first to start a thread about MM vs Nougat?
Those sort of threads started at the beginning of the Nougat beta programme last year
Come on 'dude', even if you couldn't be bothered to look, you could have worked out for yourself that wasn't going to be the case.
I guess your description of this thread being useless is correct though, so congrats on that :good:

Samsung S20 Ultra 5G "SM-G988U" (Verizon) - Need Help Rooting... Please, & Thank You.

Hello there!
So... I am usually seen as the more "techie" person among my group of friends & acquaintances (mainly because.. I know how to use Google, LOL), and that's been well and fine up until now. However, I've had a good friend ask me to help root his Samsung S20 Ultra for him, and return it when it is finished. I figured "Fine, why not?", considering I've rooted a few devices in the (distant) past...
As mentioned before, I'm not a *complete* noob when it comes to rooting/modding Android devices, but it has been quite a while since doing so... Since I feel a bit too "rusty" and more than a bit lost when reading up on this topic online--even when studying up on the topic on these very forums, I've realized that I'd probably get the job done faster, and overall be better off in the end, if I just ask the experts (hopefully you guys!) directly instead of trying to rush to figure it all out and attempt this purely on my own--since I'm not 100% confident at this point with what steps I should take first.
So, after seeing many people linking here, and saying that this forum is the place to go for these kinds of inquiries, well... Here I am!
There are screenshots taken from "CPU-Z" with all of the details of the device attached to this post, so anyone who is willing to help can be 100% sure of what I've got, if you need it.
Thanks much!

Typically, Verizon phones are bootloader "locked". Without being able to unlock the bootloader, it is not rootable. However, there should be a dedicated forum for your device. I'd check there.
