App launch speed - Xiaomi Redmi 3s Real Life Review

OMG! Kim K posted another selfie with tons of cleavage! Rate this thread to express how quickly apps launch on the Xiaomi Redmi 3s. A higher rating indicates that even the most intensive apps launch quickly and without hesitation, even if they are no longer in RAM.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

Not even a single lag I face in day to day usage in app launching

8/10. Lags a bit almost ok but waiting for miui9 for speeding things up

app launching is ok but multitasking and ram management is so horrible

A COMPARISON OF XIOAMI REDMI 3S Prime WITH COOLPAD NOTE 3 LITE
Conclussion:
Ok app open speed.
R3SP stats:
1-3s to open app. 0.3-0.6s to open recent app. That's a bit LAGGG. ?
CPN3L: 0.9-3s to open app. 0.1-0.3s to open recent app. That's Snappy. ?.
Benchmarks: Antutu:
R3SP - 43k
CPN3L - 32k
The Difference. 4 core vs 8 core.
The Same 3GB Ram.
Compare on gsmarena.
Setup:
No SD used in test.
Both Nougat Rom.
Only tested App open and recent app Speed.
Titanium restored backup on fresh Roms both devices, so same apps and data.
Such injustice on r3sp made me to flash kernels, other nougat roms... But ehh. ??.
Well specs ? looks cool. But speed feels hmmm.

On Android Oreo 8.1.0 now. From boot speed to app launch speed, it's all fast as light. RAM management is excellent on custom ROMs. Battery backup is better than ever before. Didn't even feel like any budget device! ???

[Q] Moto G 4G 4.4.3 RAM management too aggressive

Hey folks
I bought a moto g 4g a week ago. The phone itself is good but KitKat is cleaning RAM too often. If i have opened two tabs in chrome and have Skype opened in background i still have almost 300mb of free RAM. But if i switch to home screen and back to chrome one of the tabs gets suspended and needs to reload. Sometimes Skype also gets suspended. I could never bring the moto using all of its RAM. I have always at least 200mb free ram!
What can i do?? Was jelly bean better? Why is KitKat closing apps if there still is enough RAM left?
Stock has very high minfree values, they were the same on my s3 mini, I just don't understand why the foreground app will close when you have 48 MB free... I mean, this literally translated to your phone having 48 MB less RAM... My Optimus One had a stock value of 2 MB and I never had an issue... The only way to change this is with root.
Also, because chrome runs each tab on a separate process, every time you change your tab, that goes to the background, and with our super epicly stupid minfree values, they will just close (and will reload) if you have less than 300 MB free...
Changing the browser might do the trick, Chrome is horribly stressing on my laptop cpu and very glitchy on Android, but Google made that *sort of* worth it...

Many thanks for the reply. Anyone knows if for Android L the min free value are also that high? If its lower i would just wait for it. Because i dont feel good in unlocking bootloader and loose waranty to root the device...
In fact we need a device which has at least 2G RAM to use chrome on Android.
and maybe 4.4.3 uses more RAM than 4.4.2, I had 450 free ram on 4.4.2 but only 350 on 4.4.3.
Can anyone confirm that with root and lower min RAM settings chrome can be used comfortably? Im at 4.4.3 and i have 430mb free ram
And btw how much free RAM is available in cynogenmod Rom? Or slimkat Rom?

I can confirm that it will never be used comfortably, I did that on S3 mini (cyanogenmod, so pretty much the same), and since Chrome runs every tab as a background process, and android caches processes in the same category, most of the time they get the same OOM priority as, let's say, the calculator app you back-buttoned to go back, so they get killed anyway, since android loads background processes all the time, for faster loading (this is just a stupid way to put a process priority for Chrome, bad Google).
TL;DR: Google sucks at making multitasking work when browsing the internet...(most probable case for multitasking IMO)
Also, if you have Facebook messenger, or the app, which have ALL (I really mean ALL) the possible permissions, and will expand their RAM to the limit, you will always have redraws, because they are ran as a service, and will only DECREASE (because they have tons of actual services) their RAM usage when all the background apps are closed.
TL;DR: If you have Facebook app/messenger, say goodbye to multitasking.

So moto g has not enough RAM . browsing for me has highest priority. Perhaps i ll geht a nexus 5
Hmm yes if you are looking for any sort of serious multi tasking then Moto G isn't for you. A 2 GB phone is absolutely required for that.
The Moto G is excellent for smoothly running whatever you are currently doing but your background apps and browsing tabs will be killed quickly.

No, it DOES have enough RAM, even my Optimus One had enough (420), the problem is in the Chrome tab management.
But if you can get a Nexus 5, get a Nexus 5, but a quick test with the nexus 4 and Moto G showed Moto G using much less cpu than nexus 4 for the same tasks (don't know about nexus 5, but n4 vs moto g is a freaking krait versus a low end cortex A7), so Motorola really did optimize.
Spoiler
The test was done with my cousin's N4, almost the same apps installed.

Xiaomi Mi4c 2GB RAM vs. Xiaomi Mi4c 3GB RAM - Antutu, Geekbench, Quadrant

Test between Xiaomi Mi4c with 2GB RAM and Xiaomi Mi4c with 3GB RAM.

Thanks for this one!
It's really minimal difference between the two, despite 1GB difference in RAM. I just wish there was a SD-card slot in the device, as the 16GB variant is pretty much just as good as the 32GB version.. But as it is right now, you kinda have to buy the 32GB variant, in order to not run out of space

interesting... so I flashed the weekly xiaomi.eu ROM from http://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/5-10-8.28692/, and the Antutu score took a massive hit, as compared to my previous test with default MIUI7 stable ROM!
However, xiaomi.eu ROM is debloated and Play store runs seamlessly....

after 4 hrs of use, two notable differences:
1) double-tap to wake much less responsive (need power button to wake);
2) animation between apps are sometimes laggy
host of problems being reported here: http://www.miui.com/thread-2996595-1-1.html
chinese dev version 5.10.8 recorded a high Antutu score http://www.miui.com/thread-2996596-1-1.html

sorry, china dev version is 5.10.9
I can't explain why Xiaomy.eu release is slower than Xiaomi.com stock ROM; I mean, as far as I know they perform some actions to *optimize* and debloat the ROM, so the result should be the opposite.
Let's hope it will be sorted out with next week's release; for what I read it looks that Xiaomi.eu ROM should fit better non-chinese people.

You should report your performance degradation to xiaomi.eu, maybe they can do something about it who knows. Those bugs reported in those forums do make me want to hold off a bit on getting this phone..

I am using China Developer ROM 5.10.8. You must be using the Balance profile for that Antutu score. Once you selected "Performance", you should hit 50k or more. My Antutu:
I can't find Performance mode on my mi4c with 3gb ram. It is on latest stable.

Someone found a solution:

guys...if someone has the 2 gb version can he answer me how much ram is free from 2 gb in every day use??
Thank you in advance(i am between 2gb version and redmi note 2....but i like the smaller screen more...)
I own one and my free RAM is always between 800Mb and 900Mb, never less... When clening it gets 1/1.1Gb free... I clean it all the time so I get 1gb most of the time...

Is it rooted?
Yep... I installed the pre-rooted dev miui version... But must warn you... Cm 12.1 or Mokee make the phone much faster... The biggest diferente to me in speed is downloads... Lightning fast...
Really no big difference to me. Currently on 2GB version.
Its something people give too much care... If its because of the storage then OK... 32g is twice the 16g version. But regarding the RAM... The 2gb version does exactly the same performance as the 3gb... If you dont need 32 GB... Then stick with the 2gb RAM version... And save money for the same performance....
mine with 3gd ram does only 44k points, why?
What ROM are you using?
Mine does 61885 with xiaomi.eu 5.11.26 beta

Social media

Hello guys, I'm considering buying the Honor 8 but I first would like to know something. Are the social media apps fast? Do Snapchat, Facebook, Messenger etc open very fast, does taking pictures go quick or does the device lag? Thanks in advance!

Belive me, no lag at all man.
It's faster than Samsung Galaxy 7, in terms of using apps(except snapchat i guess it's really bad for all phones).
For me there wasn't any lag at all, no overheat and batter is sweet as well (2-3 days for me).
I can say this is the fastest smartphone ?
Yes mate.
The phone is very quick. No lag that I have experienced.
The amount off ram tad the phone has is way over what is needed for social media.
My phone only ever seems to use a max 2GB out of the 4GB available.
The time when I see the best use of ram is when moving files etc.
Get the phone buddy it's a good un

the phone has a good cpu and will load apps quickly there will be youtube videos showing performance as well
Super smooth, (I'm using Instagram, Twitter and facebook on daily basis)
Since the Honor 8 runs on the Kirin 950, you have no problems opening apps.
With one of the top Huawei's Chipsets: HiSilicon Kirin 950, CPU: Octa-core (4x2.3 GHz Cortex-A72 & 4x1.8 GHz Cortex A53); CPU: Mali-T880 MP4 and 4 GB RAM, at this moment, this phone won't have any problems in multitasking. For Android 6.0 is enough to have a phone with 2Gb RAM to run smoothly. At this moment there aren't many apps presenting obstacles for this top phone.
Thanks guys! I bought the phone and it is amazing! Blazingly fast.

You won't be disappointed

Could anyone be so kind and help me, by testing a game with this great smartphone?

Hello there happy Op7 owners
In 3 days is my 40th birthday and I am in the search of a present for myself - a new smartphone
But, i searched the world for eons (i mean, the internet for a few weeks) for a device capable of playing full speed 60 fps, a certain collection of games.
I asked owners of Pocophone, Mi9, S9, OP6 to test this little game for me, and the results, while promising, were not the full speed that i want. All these phones are capable of runing the game, on paper, but the CPU throttling destroys the performance after a short while. The game needs a big core to run as efficient as it can.
All my research led me to OP7 which apparently, seen from tests with CPU throttling app, has an amazing way of keeing the big core full speed without throttling, or with very minimal throttling.
So, please help me confirm this is the chosen one (...or not) by testing for me the rom Espgaluda 2 (i can provide it in pm if needed, though is easy easy to find in google), using Retroarch emulator (PlayStore) with Mame 2015 core (2015!). The core is downloaded inside the app from Load Core menu. Don't forget to activate On Screen fps :good:
If played for like 5 minutes, we should have an ideea of performance. If one could record with a second phone the test, it would be perfect!
Thanks so much and forgive my enthusiast
That's minimum what I got lol. Constantly 60FPS.

Wow man! Could you please confirm that the smoothness remains even after playing more than 5 minutes?
And, very important; Are you rooted? Any special CPU related tweaks or just stock 100%?
Thankss!!

I tried it a few minutes and it was still great. Don't remember 5 or 10 minutes.
Yes I'm rooted with bluespark kernel, but I bet its the same with stock kernel, because there is no overclock with bluespark, so far I know.

PUBG performance : Stock ROM v/s Custom ROMs

Hey,
I'm using stock Realme 5 pro 6/64 GB variant. PUBG performance with the Stock Rom is pretty good but I wanted to ask if it gets better in Custom Roms?
If you look at benchmarks my 4/64 version RMQ reaches 180-190k antutu score on stock and 200-220k on PE+/LOS. On paper custom rom is better. But in fact, no idea. I'm not a mobile gamer. Sorry. These are all the examples I could come up with.
Coming From Realme 3 to Realme 5 Pro.
I have never used any high end device so for me PUBG performance can't get any better. I use PUB GFX Tool for smooth + Extreme FPS. Works great for me on stock rom.
