HotSpot toggle widget for Android 7 - General Questions and Answers

Hey guys,
Sorry if this is repost but I couldn't find solution that I was looking for.
I'm trying to find a widget that would let me to turn on/off Wi-Fi hotspot. I went almost through every single hotspot toggle or widget in google play store and none of them worked. My phone is not rooted and i'm not planning to root so I've only tried options that work for non-rooted devices. The same thing happens with tasker it cannot turn on/off wifi tether. It seems there is a problem with Android 7., i think google broke something. So I was wondering if there is a work around that would let me use widget to toggle hotspot OR maybe there is an app that would let me create a shortcut of the hotspot toggle that is in the settings.
Thanks for any help or suggestion.

[APP] Unlock With WiFi - Automatically unlock your phone while at home

Unlock With WiFi has been reborn as SkipLock!
Unlock With WiFi is now available on the Android Market! Thanks for your feedback everyone!
Get it on the Android Market
What does the app do?
Unlock with WiFi unlocks your device when you're connected to your home WiFi network. What does "unlock" mean? It means you don't have to enter your password/pattern/PIN when you turn on your phone. When you're at home, or work, you don't need to worry about losing your phone, so why should you have to enter your password?
How does it work?
When you get home (or to work, whatever), and connect to your WiFi network, your device will unlock. Then when you leave, and the WiFi disconnects, the device will lock again.
You have to enter your password the first time after you connect to your WiFi network. This is so that if someone steals or finds your phone, they can't just bring it to your house to unlock it. After you enter your password once while connected to your WiFi network, you won't have to enter it again until you leave/disconnect.
What else does it do?
You can also set a lock delay, for when you're not at home. The default delay is set to 5 seconds, so when you turn the screen off, the device won't lock until 5 seconds have passed. That way, if you remember something you forgot to do, you can turn it back on without entering your password.
There are also options to:
Turn off WiFi when you leave home
Turn on Bluetooth when you leave home
Turn off Bluetooth when you get home
Turn on Sync when you get home
Turn off Sync when you leave home
If you have any problems with the app, please post on this thread, or PM me. Also, the app has a built in feature for reporting bugs. It will send me the system log file via email. You need to install SendLog in order for this to work, but please do so because the log file is extremely helpful to me for troubleshooting.
Please read the FAQ before posting a question or reporting a problem.
I hope you like the app, and look forward to hearing your feedback!
Known limitations:
See the FAQ for known limitations.
Versions:
There are two versions: free and full. The free version only allows you to configure one wifi network as a home network, and the extra options are disabled. Note that the free version no longer shows ads! If you like it, please buy the full version. The full version allows an unlimited number of home networks, and all the options are enabled. You can get the full version on the Android Market.
Changelog
I will no longer be maintaining the changelog here. See my website for release notes.
Cheers,
Ben
this is PERFECT.
thank you so much.
i'll report any bugs in a sec.

I've considered adding that. If there's enough requests for it, I may add it at a later date.
How's the app working for everyone?

Thanks for letting me know. I wish everyone would post a little message like this. Come on guys - 23 downloads and only one report?

Will test it tonight!
Nice idea, probably good app, but I can achieve all this and much much more with Tasker. Much more complex, indeed, and that is probably where your app comes into play - simple and easy.
But still, i prefer Tasker
Good Idea!

Fantastic idea! If you add in the functionality found in the Y5 - Battery Saver App, it could be an all in one app:
You get home
Recognizes Cell towers
Turns on WiFi
Connects to Network
Unlocks Phone
You leave home
Leaves area of Recognized Cell towers
Turns off WiFi
Locks Phone
good concept. it does what it says...prevents your phone from locking.
but on my phone (Incredible, CM7), it's kind of annoying because you can still press the volume buttons or trackball (if setup) to wake the phone. what sucks about that is you can inadvertently turn your ringer off, or wake the screen if your fumbling around with your phone your pocket or something.
again, app works as it said it would, and does it great. just not what im looking for.
i want to just disable the passcode, not the screen lock feature.
Downloaded and testing it
i have CM7 and it works fine ... (i can disable track ball wake ) but doesn't leaving the wifi on when your home increase battery drain ? food for thought
you could also add this : ask the user to specify a place as home with gps then lock/unlock according to that . it won't be as accurate as wifi tho
Works on Droid X
This app seems to work great. Thanks so much - this is perfect for me in healthcare with security issues related to HIPAA. I hate the idea of constantly typing in my password when I know that I have my phone with me at work or at home. Great app
I second the idea to have wifi automatically turn on when I get home or work.
Great idea. I'll try it after work this afternoon.
Just installed it on a DHD. Seems to be working so far. Thanks!
Update: Not working. my phone still locks. My phone is locked by the company exchange account password.
Hey you improved my idea...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=982872
your application is very similar to mine (VERY), but some things improved I recognize it... anyhow if somebody wants to be sure of what is running inside I'm providing also the source code licensed as GPL3
I hope you don't copy-pasted portions of it or you should be licensing as GPL3 also...
Just found this - I've downloaded and I'll test tonight when I get on my wifi. I have a password lock enforced via Exchange certificate from my place of work. It'd be great if it would work with that also...
Desire, Froyo.
A question about GPS enabling. I'm a Tasker user; I've installed a GingerBread (2.3.3) ROM in my HTC Magic and now Tasker shows me a message explaining that's not possible to enable/disable GPS without user interaction in GingerBread due to Google changes in Android code. So, will be possible to make such actions with this app?
Thanks!
Will test-drive this today. Thanks!

[Q] Wireless Tethering Settings

Greetings.
I have searched the forums, and have not found what I was looking for so I am going to ask nicely here.
1. I have just rooted a friends Inspire. Shipped with GB
2. In searching, I can not find any (or minimal) reference to the android wifi tethering app, and I am wondering
A)if anyone uses it, and
B) if so, what settings are used to make it work.
I appreciate your time in reading this post, and thank you in advance for your relevant answers.
thats because the wifi settings will be unique to each person ie channel, encryption, passkey etc.
The tethering needs to be activated and the PC with you want to tether has to be accepted in the cel. The app gives you a password you need to use in the PC...when you try to connect the phone will prompt that device is requering permission to connect. That simple. If you cannot make to work with the hot spot app, you can use Koush's Tether app in the market.
Thanks for the replies,
I was just curious as some devices require tweaking in the settings of google's wifi tether, and didn't know if the inspire worked on the default settings....

I actually had never tethered before yesterday....and it was just for curiosity, but worked great, and didnĀ“t tweaked anything at all. By the way, I am using Coredroid V9.2 that has a default app.
I had to enable "routing fix" in the settings of the google tethering app.

Lollipop Data Toggle Non-Root

Fixed my issue on Note 5. Posting in general just for discussion and if anyone had questions.
Saw a bunch of people with issues using widgets to toggle mobile data in lollipop as well as any automation apps.
I put a small app that acts as a widget and emulates you clicking to save you the trouble. Under Venture Alpha J&A.
Put together using Autoinput and requires it to run. Made it to fix my issue with Tasker not being able to turn my data off automatically when I'm wifi range. If anyone wants it... its a $1.42 cause Google gets 30%... link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.venturealpha.datatoggle
Only tested on the new Samsungs but should work on devices running lollipop.
If you don't want to do the $1.42 you can put it together with Tasker and autoinput and make a profile for it to resume the less clicks for data toggle.

So far all the apps that I have tried to do that on verizon won't go to the lesser network speeds UNLESS the other is unavailable. Or else I would be in 3g unless downloading for battery life
My app works off the capabilities the phone already had settings for.

Any way to get data connection to auto on/off?

Still stock. Have wifi on/off in smart settings per location but I still need to manually turn data connection on/off which defeats the purpose of having smart wifi settings. Anyone know?
Root first for best result !

This work nice on Android 4.4.2. and maybe 99% above. Work perfect with root, not sure without and new Android. Auto 3G for root type "Root LG G5 (HighONAndroid lgg5root.com)" . Work perfectly for me !

use the app called - Llama location profiler. great app.
Thanks, although I don't like how it's constantly checking your position in the background even if you don't need it to.
