[Q] when rooted android, can lose official android os?

hi i am newbie
I bought samsung galaxy note GT-N7000 (THL). now i just upgraded android os official from 2.3 to 4.0.3 official throught samsung kie software. I wonder. if i want to rooted this android 4.0.3, so when samsung release new official android os, so i can upgrade throught samsung kie like before?
another problem is: Which open source softwares can backup whole app and android os and kernal without rooted device?
thank you
I'm fairly certain that you can update your device through official forums once you've rooted it. You may have to root it again after the update though.
Also you'll only get over the air updates if you keep the stock rom and bootloader, if you install something like clockwork recovery you will not be able to get your updates.
I know that the premium version of titanium backup can backup data from your apps but you definitely need root access to back up the full app.
Spend some time reading through the forums for your device, try searching around a bit, you may find that a custom rom is appealing, in which case you can root, backup your apps and get a better device.
Good luck!

How to flash to Android 6.0 Beta?

Hi, I am relatively new at working with mobile devices. I understand that at one point the beta version for Android M was available for a short period of time but only in the UK. If you got it in the US, it was limited to a few select carriers, and Verizon was not one of them.
I am trying to install Android 6.0 Beta on my G920V. Here are the things I have done:
The Galaxy Care Method: Download Galaxy Care APK and install it. This did not work for me becasue the app is not available for the G920V.
Basically, I would like to know:
Where I can find an Android M ROM for G920V
How to install that ROM on my device
Will flashing my ROM to a different Android version cause data loss? (Is it super important to back up my data?)
I appreciate any help I can get.
You cannot do this on a VZW s6. Sorry

Q's regarding new tablet

Hello,
I recently purchased the k1 tablet and am new to the whole Nvidia aspect of things (I come from long list of Samsung devices that Ive all rooted).
Currently the tablet out of the box is running 5.1.1. I would like to root/unlock bootloader/install custom recovery and thats where I have questions.
1) Should I accept the OTA before rooting?
2) Is it easier to root/unlock bootloader/install recovery on marshmallow or lollipop?
3) And if its easier on marshmallow or lollipop what is the fastest and easiest method?
Thanks guys for any help with these questions, as I do not want to do anything and then regret it.

We have a guide in this forum for rooting for marshmallow. Just follow the directions and you're good. Download OTA.

Startrail 8

Hey guys,
I just bought a Startrail 8 by LAIQ, after someone stole my cellphone, but i'm not that happy with it's firmware.
It has a Quad Core 1,25GHz processor, runs Android 6.0 and has 1 GB of RAM
1- So can someone tell me if there's a custom rom which is or should be compatible? and where can i find a good guide for doing it? Or is it simply impossible? cause i'm having a hard time finding anything online about it.
2- On another topic, the last time i rooted a devide (Oneplus1) i used Odin, but i was googling about my new cellphone, and found a guide where it explained how to "Flash" the latest official firmware (which i'm running on) and it also said i could install a Custom Rom without rooting my device (with Odin)? Is this possible and will i keep my warranty? And what exactly is the difference between flashing and rooting?
cheers and thanks in advance!

Fixed
Try CF-Auto-root for your model number as it uses a close to stock recovery then use Odin 3.10.7 to install TWRP 3.0.2.....Should solve your issue....
