[PX5] [Mayalysk] Which 4G dongle works with this ROM? - MTCD Android Head Units Q&A

I am looking for a 4G USB dongle wich works fine with my headunit running latest Malaysk rom with android 6
The hardware is a witson PX5 board.
Who can advise me what to buy?

I have tried the following (older) devices with no luck, hopefully someone has some info on devices which do work?
-Huawei e8278s-602 4G with WiFi
-Huawei e353
-3GO11

I tested:
LTE:
E3372
E8372 (with wifi)
without success - but it is strange because the Network Signal Icon appears and disappears...
I tested also 3G E3131 and this modem worked for me...
Now I use Wifi connection from E8372, which is powered from car installation, not from PX5Unit

I have a LTE HUAWEI E3272 modem and the internet works.

I see an E3372 available cheap locally, anyone have any experience with them?

I have a E3372 but sadly no luck on the original Rom dated from december 27, 2017.
Will try in a few weeks the Malaysk Rom after my holiday.
Keep you posted.
Can anyone confirm that the E3272 definitly does work on the latest Malaysk Rom, as I have one of those also lying around would be nice if that one does work if the E3372 doesn't.
As my Wifi is dead for some reason (no valid MAC address anymore) it would save me a lot of time if I don't have to do it on a 3g signal.

I'm getting a new E3372 to replace a mifi (that works, it just does not connect by it self when it gets powered). Are people having these work on the PX5 with Malaysk?

I can confirm that Huawei E397u-53 works but only with PPP3 driving it.

Some issues with PPP3, but that may just be issues with PPP3 itself.
If it looses cell service it will not reconnect, also sometimes PPP3 hangs and I have to force stop the app.
Most of the time it works fine, anyone know of solutions for the issues with PP3?
EDIT: Found some good info, going to try a powered USB hub and see if that improves things

Running : PX5 2gb
MTCD HA V2.61_1
Mayalysk Rom v6.2
What I've read on the main Mayalysk thread all 4g dongles must have PPP to function, select 3g dongles work as integrated with the andriod system. Ordered a e1752, once it arrives I'll report back
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/huawei-3g-modem-lan-e1752-e1752c-3g-dongle-adapter-for-android-car-dvd-module-same-e1750/32834875238.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.J0aAJx

The e1752 arrived after much anticipation and it does work plug and play without PPP, buuuut I only get edge in my area (Upstate NY) with this modem
Saw in another thread someone running a Alcatel One Touch Link W800 used as Ethernet, supposedly without PPP on Mayalysk Oreo Rom. Giving a shot, more when it arrives and can test.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GKEEF88/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Edit:
Unit works as advertised, uses native LAN connection without the need for PPP.
Has a wifi AP too, but looking into how to disable that.
Running : PX5 2gb

Yes, been using for a month or so now with good results.
Alcatel One Touch Link W800 uses native LAN connection without the need for PPP.
Running : PX5 2gb

Mayalysk Rom v6.2
Only issue Ive run into is when it looses connection with the cell tower, it will attempt to reconnect, but if it is not able to reconnect after X amount of seconds the modem turns off.(not positive on the time frame maybe 100 seconds? )

Can anyone confirm LTE HUAWEI E3272 works on standard rom?

What is PPP... where I can found?

Have any drivers been removed on Android 8 (PX5 MTCE XRC2 with Stock ROM or Malaysia 3.2)?
I've already tried a lot. But I can not connect at all via any kind of USB interface to the internet.
Tried out:
Nameless 4G - stick (could be ordered with the purchase of the HU): recognized in Windows and Linux as Ehternet adapter. In the HU no function. Only provision of a Wifi.
Nameless 3G - stick (from my old RK3188 with Android 5.1): Detected in Windows and Linux as Ehternet adapter. In the HU no function. Only provision of a Wifi.
Ugreen USB 2.0 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Cable Adapter: Detected in Windows and Linux as Ehternet adapter, just like my old RK3188 device. In the HU no function.
Huawei E8231s-2: Works in Windows and Linux. In the HU no function.
Huawei E170: In Windows and Linux recognized as a modem just like my old RK3188 device. In the HU unstable function only with PPP widget. Without PPP only triangle in the status bar.
Alcatel IK40V LinkKey: Detected in Windows and Linux as Ehternet adapter. In the HU no function.
USB/Bluetooth Tethering from Oneplus 6t and other Phones
I do not want to use Wifi, because the connection with simultaneous Bluetooth use is very bad. However, I get no modems or Ethernet adapter to run. The Alcatel W800 I get here nowhere.
Who has a definitely working 4G adapter that runs without PPP and best as an Ethernet adapter?

3G modems on G-tab

Anyone tried connecting a USB 3G USB dongle with the G-tab? Will they work?
I'm thinking of getting one of these to put inside my G-tab if I can find a place inside that will fit.

You know, I think this might be possible.

The specs on this Android tablet (I think its the ZPad?) claim that USB 3G Modems are supported. It even lists the specific models.
EDIT: This is one of the models listed on the specs page. http://cgi.ebay.com/ZTE-CDMA-REV-A-EVDO-Modem-Model-AC-581-/330492290336?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4cf2e02520#ht_2134wt_1139
EDIT 2: Well I messaged zetronix through their website and left a message on their support number. We will see what kind of a response I get. ^_^
I plugged my AT&T USB 3G modem (Mercury) into the device and nothing happened. Nothing showed up in "wireless" settings. Don't think it works with TNT-Lite.
pls feel free to try your 3g sticks against my kernel offering.
pls snap some dmesgs, and give me the chip/device ids if it does not detect it, and i can add them in.
I have an air card that I will test. If I can get this working, I would be a very happy sysadmin. It shows up in dmesg, even with stock, but from there nothing.
1. Build a kernel module.
2. Configure kernel to support wired ethernet via the kernel module.
3. Insert module.
4. Configure the GTablet to use the new network interface.
I considered doing this to use my iPhone as a USB network interface, but the adhoc wireless network support from MyWi 4.0 was good enough.
That would be really cool especially with the newer 4G usb modems being offered by my carrier. But for now I simply use Wireless Tether on my rooted Droid X and use the sweet unlimited 3G to access the internet via wi-fi on my G Tablet.
Since I already have to carry the phone around and I have an unlimited data account it seemed like a good idea.

This but with my Evo... .
But I do understand how some of you get corporate data plans with those usb sticks... It would be nice for you to use
Has anyone managed to get this to work, I was at at&t today and almost got an aircard (3g Dongle) today but wanted to research a bit.

does USB modem work in Android tablet?

I was given as a gift, have a WiFi only 7" Asian Android tablet purchased in Singapore.
I understand I can get a USB 3G modem with build in pre-paid SIM to get online for GSM network such as AT&T and T-Mobile.
Can you please tell me what kind of third party modem I should look for and what kind specification? What kind of Android modem drive should I look for?
Thank you.
I understand Verizon users can get a similar USB 3G adapter for laptops to get online.
But those are CDMA modem, correct? So, these adapters has no build-in SIM card.
Where can I get more info on these? Thank you,
Also, can some one with AT&T or T-Mobile subscriber tell me, do you have USB modem adapters for your laptop?
I assume these are 3G digital modem using cellular network, correct? Thank you.

Funny, I was thinking the exact same thing today and then here's your post.
There's other people asking the same question if you search the forums, but when I looked last there wasn't much work happening on that idea.
Personally I just tether my phone as a wifi hotspot. That way I don't have to pay for more than one overpriced 3G internet plan. I'm guessing most other users do this or make use of wifi hotspots around town, home, work etc. This probably negates the drive for development of such an app.
I imagine there's some custom code to be done to get it to work, and then for each individual usb modem. Probably not impossible, but not easy either. In Australia they're bringing out a newer version of their usb dongles probably every six months or so? It's hard to keep up.
I'll be interested to see if someone has got it going.
USB modem in Android
thedrcarl, I heard quite a bit about external 3G USB dongle.
This suppose to work with cellular network and when no wifi connection is possible.
In fact, I think there is such 3G USB dongle works in laptops. But what about Android Wifi only tablets?
I'm expecting it should, the dongles should work (Y)
I do found USB dongle adapter for GSM quad frequency modem for cellular network. It has software and drivers to work on Windows laptops. I think this is called Huawei modem USB adapter.
But not software for Android tablets (wifi only) to connect to internet using Cellular network. Does anybody out there get this working?
if you have a usb port, you would buy some huawei models with driver for android:
-huawei e160
e169
e220
e1750
after connecting the modem, you must configure the correct APN for your mobile network and if the sim doesn't recognises, you shuold delete the pin code with a cellphone
Is there a reason you need to buy a USB 3G modem and not just a 3G/4G wifi-hotspot? That would save you the pain of having to have it plugged in and I think they're usually comparably priced, no?
reply to usb modem
yes u can first check in tablet u have usb port u can
if u have miniusb u have to buy a bini usb to usb converter then plug select network apn etc
I think using GSM with SIM both T-Mobile and AT&T have pre-paid usage plan that only charge what you use, not in monthly contract.
Am I correct?

Galaxy S4 + ethernet?

So, where I work, I have zero bars. I've tried both Tmobile and AT&T sim chips and both are "no service" at my desk. I sit right in the middle of a big metal building.
Also, this building has no wifi at all.
My only other option is ethernet. Do you guys know of any way I can hook an ethernet cable to my S4? Does Android even have the software capability to do this?
Thanks guys. :fingers-crossed:

buy a wifi dongle for your work PC which is connected via ethernet then let your work PC transmit wifi connection to your phone. Not sure if thats legal to do in your office, using a wifi dongle since you need more or less an administrator access to set it up correctly.

Didn't think you could use a dongle that would work like that?
Can you not buy a router and create your own wifi?
The existing LAN you have at your pc, plug into a router, then the router to the pc. Configure an invisible ssid and boom.
Assuming your work will allow you... There may be a security reason why they don't have wifi.

I used to broadcast wifi internet using the built in wlan of a laptop but using a usb internet dongle(the one with a simcard). Forgot the name of the program but if you know how to setup manually it should work as well. Im just assuming you can use those wifi dongles to transmit like a repeater

Get a router and hook it up to your ethernet and make it hidden and secured so only you know it exist and only you can use it.
Nic dongle for S4 SPH-L720
I see them around the i9500. Is there any for the SPH-L720 S4?
You could use something like this. It should work for you. I have a regular USB to Ethernet adapter and it works with my Toshiba tablet and chromebooks. No apps or drivers needed with android. I believe you need android honeycomb or better I think.

3G WCDMA Dongle for Joying 5.1.1 MTCD Unit

I was just wondering if this dongle:
https://www.carjoying.com/wireless-...-for-joying-android-car-stereo-radio-gps.html
will work on the Carjoying MTCD Unit.
I could also use PPPWidget 3 but I would really like signal bars in the notification areas.
Any experiences with this? Any other dongles work with the 5.1.1 Units? I would prefer not to use a hotspot dongle though.
Thanks!
Anyone tried this out?
I have eonon clone device and with Malysk rom my donge: HUAWEI E3131 works perfect.
Also interested, feedback?
looks like they have a new one:

I know the chances are slim, but if the laptops are older, they may not have a 5ghz wifi card. How old are the laptops? Any chance you could try with a usb wifi dongle and see if it works on that.
