So, where I work, I have zero bars. I've tried both Tmobile and AT&T sim chips and both are "no service" at my desk. I sit right in the middle of a big metal building.
Also, this building has no wifi at all.
My only other option is ethernet. Do you guys know of any way I can hook an ethernet cable to my S4? Does Android even have the software capability to do this?
Thanks guys. :fingers-crossed:

buy a wifi dongle for your work PC which is connected via ethernet then let your work PC transmit wifi connection to your phone. Not sure if thats legal to do in your office, using a wifi dongle since you need more or less an administrator access to set it up correctly.

Didn't think you could use a dongle that would work like that?
Can you not buy a router and create your own wifi?
The existing LAN you have at your pc, plug into a router, then the router to the pc. Configure an invisible ssid and boom.
Assuming your work will allow you... There may be a security reason why they don't have wifi.

I used to broadcast wifi internet using the built in wlan of a laptop but using a usb internet dongle(the one with a simcard). Forgot the name of the program but if you know how to setup manually it should work as well. Im just assuming you can use those wifi dongles to transmit like a repeater

Get a router and hook it up to your ethernet and make it hidden and secured so only you know it exist and only you can use it.
Nic dongle for S4 SPH-L720
I see them around the i9500. Is there any for the SPH-L720 S4?
You could use something like this. It should work for you. I have a regular USB to Ethernet adapter and it works with my Toshiba tablet and chromebooks. No apps or drivers needed with android. I believe you need android honeycomb or better I think.

I currently have a iPad 2 WiFi, it can tether just fine with my rooted EVO. I suppose the same will happen with the Transformer (still waiting for it).
I do not think the keyboard is needed... why anyway? I mean tether via WiFi

you can definitely tether you phone to your transformer...seems like bluetooth tether seems to be the best bet right now.
Get em paired and let the data flow!

Without having it right here in front of me....
First, your phone needs to have the wireless tether app.which means you most likly will need to be rooted. Go to the settings and switch it to the bluetooth tether rather than the wireless one. Make the device discoverable. Then go on your transformer and go to wireless & networks>bluetooth settings> check turn on bluetooth then scan for devices. It should find you phone, so select it. Once the devices are connected there should be an option on the transformer in the bluetooth settings that say something about using bluetooth data tether or something along those lines. Select that and you should be all set!
If you are still having issues let me know and i can do a more detailed (and accurate) walkthrough tonight when I get home.
Yes, you can use your phone if it provides the right sort of hot spot (infrastructure). I've tested my LG Optimus with the Transformer and it works fine. There are other tethering options if your phone does not have a hotspot, a program like PDA.net, using bluetooth (if your phone has a BT modem driver). What will not work is a program that turns your phone into an Ad Hoc hotspot, unless someone gets Ad Hoc working on the TF (should be possible, they have to change the supplicants file).
Don't know about bluetooth tethering, but my transformer connects to my android 2.2 HTC Desire wifi hotspot with no problems.
Password is stored, and it connects automatically when unconnected to my home wifi.
Mines working perfect with my g2.
Having troubles connecting to my Optimus S...

I wonder what are the steps. I have an HTC Hero (Sprint) on CM7 and it works fine through Bluetooth connection to WiFi-Tether.
On the contrary, my Optimus S (Sprint), i rooted it and then installed WiFi-Tether. Then I tried to tether it to my Asus (with the same settings on both sides) but I can't find the option "Tether" in the Bluetooth Settings. It just disappeared. I tried everything . Un-pairing, Changing some of the settings, Restarting both devices, everything...
So, is there something I'm doing wrong? Am I missing something? Is the "LG" name not good for the connection?
My galaxy s phone functions as a wireless hotspot so can be used by any device that has wifi ability, im not sure if this feature is specific to gakaxy s or an android feature
Funnily enough ive connected all sorts to it xbox, laptop, ipad etc
I've used the wifi hotspot built in to CM7 (infrastructure) in my car for my passengers to use my transformer with the day i took it out of the box. Haven't tried BT yet but any infrastructure type will work. I've noticed that if the app doesn't have the option to switch between infrastructure and ad-hoc, "tether" will refer to ad-hoc while "hotspot" will mean infrastructure. Good luck!
If you want to turn your mobile phone to wi-fi hotspot, when somebody connects to it he will use your 3G connection to search the web.
But I was wondering is it possible to connect with your phone to wi-fi (router), and then turn your phone to hotspot, and when somebody connects to it to use wifi connection, not 3G.
Can somebody help me, if anything like this is possible or exist?
I don't really know what would be the point on connecting your phone to wifi and then your friend's phone, assuming you both are in the same place, connected to your phone.
Why not just both to the wifi?
I think it's not possible to have wifi hotspot connected to wifi, have you tried though?
If you try and it works then there you go, but i think it's slightly pointless

I'm not aware of any smartphone that makes this possible. The reason for this is the operation of the wifi devices: they're not built to support multiple networks at once. In 3G-wifi-tethering scenario the different networks use separate radios so using both at once is possible and even required for the scenario of using normal telephony functions while moving data through wifi.
Your scenario sounds a bit funny to me as well , why would you do such thing?Working around encryption or something?
I was asking about this beacuse of distance, I can't reach router signal from my room, and i was thinking if this could be a solution. But I didn't expect it's possible, just asked. Thank you anyway
So you'd be using one of the phones as an access point? lol, you should just buy an AP in any computer shop / Amazon for example, they're not too expensive, put it in a place more near your room and you'll have a stronger wi-fi signal

or maybe you buy a powerful antenna for your modem (maybe 10 Db Antenna) so your segnal will be more powerful ??
I know I can buy that but I wanted to do this just for a little experiment
Can you just go to settings and turn3g off

Have you tried usb tethering while connected to wifi..don't know if it'll work, but I'm wondering myself

AFAIK its not possible.
I also heard it is one WiFi connection only so you would need some other form of tethering.

I think the tethering should work unless your service company charges for tethering
update: No it doesn't work. only runs network signal not wireless. Maybe there should be a way to do that.

This is impossible since the tethering uses 3g internet connection rather than wi-fi, since it is designed for situations when there is no wi-fi connection but there is cellular connection, and you want to browse the internet with your PC. good luck, i maybe wrong!
HI,
I have a SGS3 phone. I can use my SGS3 3G connection on my laptop when there's no WIFI at my location.
Is it possible to do the same with the tablet? Cause the model I have is the WIFI only but would love to use my phone 3G connection.....
thnx
Why can't you do the same thing with the Note? It's called tethering. You enable wifi tethering on your phone first, then connect your Note to your phone. Easy peasy.

So "WIFI Tethering" will use 3G Data Connection of the phone?? Cause as I said, it's in the situation where there's no WIFI.

Yes
Beamed from my CM10.1 Galaxy Nexus
Just be aware that tethering to your phone will eat your phones battery power very quickly...
yeah I thought so ....... I have a 12000ma portable charger, that should circumvent that issue
Mate, from your post, it says you have the N8000 model. This is the 3g model. The wifi only are , worldwide, the N8010 and the , America, N8013.
There's also the Turkish N8005 but that has 3G internet.
There's the 4g LTE N8020 too..
If indeed you have an N8000 then you can slap a normal sized sim in it and use it for 3G and phone calls...
No it's my mistake, it's the N8010 that I have

Actually, sharing the connection using bluetooth is much more energy efficient and in my opinion better and easier.
Or would it be possible to connect with the phone by USB using an OTG adapter?

How do you share internet access through BT?
I like your USB idea indeed, didn't think of it, yes I do have the adaptor.

Using another Android 4.. phone the procedure is as follows:
Open the settings and share internet (same place as share by wifi), click the share by bluetooth button.
Open the bluetooth settings on your tablet. The easiest way to do this is to hold the bluetooth symbol in the system bar a couple of seconds, the same button that can turn bluetooth on and off.
Pair your devices, the first time you might have to make sure that one are in pairing mode (or visible might be a better name). Click the setting button for your phone in the tablet bluetooth menu. There's a setting called something like "use this devices Internet connection", click that.
Done! There might be some quick fix app that gives you widgets to turn it on and off instantly.
It won't hurt to try, when you connect it to your computer as far as I remember you get the option of sharing the phones Internet connection. Maybe it's just as simple when connecting to the tablet. Else, there might be an app for that as the kids are saying nowdays

You got one that connects directly to your phone, not via OTG or so?
HERE is some talk about USB/Ethernet cables for Note Pro 12.2 (which is like Note 3 but with bigger screen??) They have got it work on some adapters.
