[Q] Use your phone for 3g? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Could you teather your phone to the Transformer so as to get 3g service?
Would you need the keyboard to do this, since it has a full size USB?

I currently have a iPad 2 WiFi, it can tether just fine with my rooted EVO. I suppose the same will happen with the Transformer (still waiting for it).
I do not think the keyboard is needed... why anyway? I mean tether via WiFi

you can definitely tether you phone to your transformer...seems like bluetooth tether seems to be the best bet right now.
Get em paired and let the data flow!

Without having it right here in front of me....
First, your phone needs to have the wireless tether app.which means you most likly will need to be rooted. Go to the settings and switch it to the bluetooth tether rather than the wireless one. Make the device discoverable. Then go on your transformer and go to wireless & networks>bluetooth settings> check turn on bluetooth then scan for devices. It should find you phone, so select it. Once the devices are connected there should be an option on the transformer in the bluetooth settings that say something about using bluetooth data tether or something along those lines. Select that and you should be all set!
If you are still having issues let me know and i can do a more detailed (and accurate) walkthrough tonight when I get home.

Yes, you can use your phone if it provides the right sort of hot spot (infrastructure). I've tested my LG Optimus with the Transformer and it works fine. There are other tethering options if your phone does not have a hotspot, a program like PDA.net, using bluetooth (if your phone has a BT modem driver). What will not work is a program that turns your phone into an Ad Hoc hotspot, unless someone gets Ad Hoc working on the TF (should be possible, they have to change the supplicants file).

Don't know about bluetooth tethering, but my transformer connects to my android 2.2 HTC Desire wifi hotspot with no problems.
Password is stored, and it connects automatically when unconnected to my home wifi.

Mines working perfect with my g2.

I wonder what are the steps. I have an HTC Hero (Sprint) on CM7 and it works fine through Bluetooth connection to WiFi-Tether.
On the contrary, my Optimus S (Sprint), i rooted it and then installed WiFi-Tether. Then I tried to tether it to my Asus (with the same settings on both sides) but I can't find the option "Tether" in the Bluetooth Settings. It just disappeared. I tried everything . Un-pairing, Changing some of the settings, Restarting both devices, everything...
So, is there something I'm doing wrong? Am I missing something? Is the "LG" name not good for the connection?

My galaxy s phone functions as a wireless hotspot so can be used by any device that has wifi ability, im not sure if this feature is specific to gakaxy s or an android feature
Funnily enough ive connected all sorts to it xbox, laptop, ipad etc

I've used the wifi hotspot built in to CM7 (infrastructure) in my car for my passengers to use my transformer with the day i took it out of the box. Haven't tried BT yet but any infrastructure type will work. I've noticed that if the app doesn't have the option to switch between infrastructure and ad-hoc, "tether" will refer to ad-hoc while "hotspot" will mean infrastructure. Good luck!

[Q] iPhone tether to Xoom Wifi

I know this topic seems similar to some. But it's not exactly the same.
I am trying to use my iPhone to tether to the new Xoom WIFI model. My tethering app used in iPhone is MyWi
I read the forum and found that Xoom WIFI doesn't support Adhoc. This is probably the reason why I cannot do the internet tethering.
Does anyone know how you can use iPhone to do the internet tethering to Xoom WIFI?
Will this Adhoc problem be solved by our developers here? If so, I could probably wait.
If I cannot find a solution, I have to return this device. I tried Xoom 3G, it supports Adhoc. This is just a bad move from Motorola to disable the Adhoc support on the Wifi model.
Not sure with the iPhone. I can tether from my atrix to the wifi Xoom, but I have the tethering plan.
The 3g xoom does not support adhoc either, you are somehow misinformed.
I am 100% sure that it can be enabled however.

At the moment, the Xoom does not support connection to an ad-hoc network. However, it can be tethered via bluetooth, so if your iPhone can do bluetooth tethering, you should be able to connect.
There has been some discussion of enabling the ad-hoc capability in the development forum, if I recall (it is capable, but either locked or not yet implemented or something), so you may want to check there for any updates.
Im using MyFi in Bluetooth mode and it works great with the Xoom.
You just need to pair the two, like any Bluetooth device and then in MyWi enable bluetooth, then on the xoom under blutooth click the wrench next to the iphone and select tether - Thats it.

Thank you. I tried. It will paired but it won't connect. When I hit the tethering in Xoom.. it will say tethered and then lose connection again. Any idea?
Thanks again
Here's the thread on tethering the iPhone to the Xoom 3G. I followed it and it works flawlessly. I use TetherMe on the iPhone and have no problems. I can even connect the phone to the car stereo (as handsfree) AND use the internet on the Xoom simultaneously. FYI - I have NOT activated 3G with Verizon.
Hope that helps!

Thank you. I finally get it to work using Bluetooth tethering. I used Tetherme from Cydia. The connection speed is slow though (AT&T), I will do more test to see if it is caused by the bluetooth connection.
Thank you all for the valuable inputs.
No problem! We're all in the same boat here. And there's always the "thanks" button

Just noticed that. I clicked all the Thanks button. Good luck ^^
something weird, I have a factory unlocked iphone 4 (with no jailbreak) and I bought a xoom wifi expecting to have trouble pairing to the iphone 4 hotspot based on this thread.
I was testing trying to pair them via bluetooth with the original iphone 4 hotspot option before trying the jailbreak programs bluetooth method. As I was testing this I noticed my xoom displayed my iphone 4 wifi hotspot network name in the wifi networks, so my xoom sees my iphone 4 wifi hotspot and is able to connect to it, i don´t know why but it does.
So maybe my iphone 4 model MC605ZP is not using ad-hoc or my xoom is seeing an ad-hoc network....all i know is a I´m very happy!!
Edit: It seems IOs 4.3 hotspot is in fact Infrastructure so is not that weird lol...
Thanks for the help mate. I can't find the 'thank you' button, I'm posting this reply instead.
Success without Jailbreaking on 3GS
Just got my Xoom from Telstra, took SIM and put into my iPhone 3GS and wanted to tether the iphone to the Xoom.
I was wholly expecting to have to jailbreak as per previous posts, but it worked great out of the box.
Step 1. Put Xoom into Airplane mode
Step 2. Turn on Bluetooth in Xoom
Step 3. Turn on Hotspot on iPhone
Step 4. Pair iphone with Xoom using Bluetooth. It should say paired and not connected ( once off activity - should stick )
Step 5. On Xoom, press spanner icon on the iPhone connection and select Internet Access
Step 6. Browse away
Each time you switch Hotspot on iPhone On you need to manually reconnect to Internet on Bluetooth settings in Xoom. Bit of a pain but minimal.
Interestingly, I can turn on WiFi also while in Airplane mode.......you can't use a Xoom for phone based calls so intrigues me what this mode actually does appart from being a single switch for turning BT and WIFI off together.
Xoom is running Android 3.1
iPhone is running iOS 4.3.5
No other stuff loaded on either device that would assist this in any way.

[Q] Bluetooth tethering problems

I'm a noob here so please be kind... Anyone know the settings on the Transformer to get bluetooth tethering working. I have a windows mobile HTC touch pro2 using wmwifirouter v1.25. I can pair the two devices but the Transformer never seems to connect. On the HTC, If I go to internet sharing...bluetooth pan...it says it cant connect to the transfomer's NAP network. wmwifirouter is always waiting for a connection.
Any ideas?
I've got the same problem (although using HTC HD2)
Just the same for me using an iPhone 3G

not sure if it makes any difference but i'm using my jailbroken, iphone 3GS and no problem whatsoever. you just have to enable it on the settings, pair it and you're in. getting 1Mmbps on my work area so i'm very pleased.
I think it depends on the bluetooth program your using and how its doing its routing. I've had no problems using Wireless Tether on my original Droid. Just flip it over to Bluetooth mode since the transformer can't see the ad hoc.
But I've also tried PDAnet and a couple other non root needed bluetooth tehter programs and they didn't work.

Has anyone been able to tether with the LG G2x model? I haven't had luck bluetooth tethering to my TF with it, it pairs but thats about it
No option for tethering
You guys need to keep in mind that the carriers have been cracking down on tethering. On my Droid X there is a built in app called Datamanager or something similar, which makes it so I cannot tether my phone. Once I froze it with Titanium, I was able to bt tether my phone to the TF.
iPhone 4 BT tethered worked for me
Hi All,
I have the TF and tried BT tethering yesterday with a buddy. It works fine once you have it paired you have to go back in and connect to it in the BT Menu on the TF.
I haven't tried tethering with anything else yet.

How to-Wireless Tether Touchpad with Android Phone

Anyone knows how to setup wireless tethering on Touchpad?
I have Miui Android on Motorola Defy. I tried Wireless tether and Barnacle apps but my Touchpad cannot detect connection.
I read somewhere that TP will not work with Adhoc wifi...is there a way to get infrastructure wifi on Android? any other suggestion?
my vibrant runs cm7.
i simply go into my settings > wireless > wireless tether

Are u from Dallas Texas?

i don't think gingerbread runs it in ad-hoc mode.

I've allready tried with my Defy under CM7 without success at this time. Barnacle does Ad-hoc Wifi, and webos cannot connect to Ad-hoc Wifi.
I tried with "WiFi tether" for root witch allow infrastructure mode but unsuccessful for now.
We need to find the good app and the good settings...
I have the ridiculous situation where I have my trusty 7" Samsung Galaxy Tab (on 2.2) running its Wireless Access Point software and a Wireless 'ouchpad - has anyone tried this combo?
My TP connects fine to my Galaxy S2, security set as WPA2
Hi all, I have an unrelated question to ask. I just got my tp this mornign from hp, for whatever reasont that might be, I couldn't connect to the hp catalog(hp app store). Does anyone else have this problem as well?
I am using a rooted DroidX and Barnacle WiFi will not work with the Touchpad. I installed "Open Garden WiFi Tether" and it successfully tethers.

it connects fine to my router at home using WPA2 also, just not my desire s for some reason.
My Touchpad initially would not see the hotspot from my Evo 4g running CM7, but after upgrading the Touchpad to the new firmware it is all set. I'm using WPA security.

Hey, guys?
Any progress in connecting our touchpads to Motorola Defy phones?
My TP connects fine. Tmo G2 running CM7 nightlies. I use the built in wifi hotspot and WPA2 encryption. No problems.
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
I had the same problem trying to connect using WiFi Tether on my Epic 4G, which i downloaded from the Android Market. That version only uses WEP and the TP just couldnt see the connection. I downloaded an updated version of WiFi Tether from the developers site, which supported WPA2 and the TP saw it and connected with no problem.
Finally my first post...lol

Can I use the Transformer as an access point for my phone?

I own a Samsung Infuse which has terrible Wifi strength. I have to be in the same room as the router in order for it to connect.
Is there anyway that I can use my Transformer as a hotspot while its connected to my network so my phone can connect to the Transformer?
No, cant be host and client at the same time.

How is that possible? Unless your TF is 3G capable, once you turn the TF wifi hotspot on it shut off the WiFi connection.
I can tether my TF to my Nexus 1 but not the other way around.
are you on latest firmware? I saw something in another thread about it, but its definitely an option here and worked when I tested it!

[Q] Use as a wifi hotspot?

Hello
I live in the UK and am considering importing this phone (there aren't any recent slide-keyboard phones over here)
BUT is it possible to use this as a wifi hotspot? So I can tether my other devices to it?
This is very important for me but I understand that US carriers are a lot more locked-down than over here so I wonder if they've taken the function out.
Also, while I'm here, is it possible to use the bluetooth WHILE it's acting as a wifi tether? For bluetooth earphones, etc. My current phone (an aging Xperia mini pro) won't let me use both at the same time
Under the stock ROMs, you have to use a patch to enable wifi tethering. Under CM WiFi tethering works out of the box.
You can technically use wifi tethering and bluetooth at the same time, but it's not wise, at least under CM. There's some struggle right now to get 2.4Ghz WiFi and bluetooth to work at the same time under CM10.2. When both are enabled, neither run well.
The stock ROM offers USB and Wi-Fi tethering, at least on T-Mobile US; there's a "T-Mobile Hotspot" app baked-in. I haven't tried to use the hotspot with other networks, though.
Also, the T-Mobile hotspot didn't play nice with my ThinkPad T61/Intel 4965AGN combo on 32-bit Windows 7. It would never fully connect, and I actually managed to bluescreen Windows several times before giving up and using USB tethering. The same machine worked fine with Wi-Fi tethering on Linux Mint 14.
I tether my work laptop when on the go with my Relay all the time, under CM10.2. Works quite well.

If you buy this phone - do it it's great - you should at least upgrade it to CM10.2 and get rid of that T-Mobile bloatware.
