Hi guys - General Questions and Answers

I recently started learning how to repair smart devices about half a year ago and I love tinkering around with different issues. Sometimes I would buy or auction devices off eBay and tinker with it. But sometimes I have come across a water damaged device and I was wondering does other components such as camera, flex cables, and other components other than the motherboard still work? Does using a multimeter continuity help finding out if it still work? Because right now I am building a website where I want to try to sell parts and components at a discount price. Someone please help answer! Much appreciated.!

Anyone have a spare speaker assembly?

Hey guys,
Water damaged my Captivate a couple months back. Sent it to a repair guy and he was unable to get it working. I think given the right parts and some help from TechRepublic's tear down i might be able to do a better job myself. If anybody has a spare speaker for the Captivate it would help a lot. I cannot afford to buy an off contract device at this time. Please let me know if you have that part, or any other spare parts, as well as any advice on this issue. Cheers.

Replacing LCD+digitizer

About to replace my LCD and digitizer after an accident that has left my phone useless
I found a guide online and the items needed.
any heads up or pointers I should know about before doing this?
I hope you have insurance... First time I tried to open something electronic up, I cracked the screen! (ipod) be careful man
Sorry to hear man, but before you do anything you aren't really comfortable with I would suggest looking at some local cell phone repair shops. My brother cracked his LG G2x and the price for the digitizer was abour $75. We searched on yelp.com and called around and found a great shop that would repair it for $95 within two hours. Some places were charging well over $100 and would take at least 5 days to repair.
In the end though my brother was extremely happy with the experience and once he got his phone fixed he flashed a new ICS rom and it was literally a brand new phone! Good luck though my friend.
I cannot stress it enough, get an HTC digitizer! I bought a $30 one off of amazon and it gave up after a month. Get a cell phone tool kit and plenty of the two sided tape, just in case the screen needs to be redone. It's not hard to do, it just requires some time and a little patience. You'll do fine.

It's not that I don't feel comfortable with it, just never attempted it. I've done small electronics repair before though so i'm sure this will be fine.
Also thanks,
I'll let you guys know how it goes.
I'm replacing my wife's digitizer soon but I got a cheap one off eBay. Hopefully it doesn't have issues. It comes with a kit including the tools needed. Supposedly.
phone wont work after replacing the screen.
any ideas y it wont work,
The phone won't boot up at all? or is the touch screen not working?
Make sure all the ribbon cables are properly connected and are not broken. If not, you might have gotten a defective screen replacement.
RE:
Hi,
I replaced my digitizer.
To anybody who will do this in future, when you put the new digitizer in place, make sure that no dust or other things get under the glass.

[Q] replace motherboard or swap screens?

Ok, ive given up hope of un bricking my tf300, and probably will never buy another asus product after this. My question is, should i replace the motherboard in mine, or put my screen and digitizer in another tab that i can buy for about the same price as a motherboard? Which would be the easier swap, and can someone like me without any special skills even accomplish this kind of thing? Oh yea thank u all for ur help in the past!!
Either is an easy fix, but I stole the digi/lcd combo and the TS board from my TWRP bricked 16GB to replace the cracked digi on a recently acquired 32GB model. I should be able to recoup some more from the non-logic board parts remaining, enough to more than make sense over buying a logic board alone. The battery, TS board, and good LCD alone might take care of it. If not, then maybe including all the little parts and cables inside will. Even if it is more effort to post and sell all that stuff, it should add up to more than selling a parts tablet with a broken digi and bricked logic board.
But then, I've had many tablets apart, and I'm decent at repairing them. Someone who has never had one apart might find either path daunting.
If doing the repairs yourself isn't a good option, you could always take the tablets to a cell phone repair shop, assuming there's one near you. Replacing the screen on a tablet is similar enough to a smartphone that they shouldn't have any problems. There's also a chance that they fix tablets anyway since they're kind of like big smartphones in the way they're assembled. And since you have your own parts, the repairs shouldn't be too expensive.

replacement parts

I'm not much of a modder to my phone, but lately my micro USB port has gotten so loose that charging it is a hassle, I've resorted to qi charging for now, but it's a bit slower, I'm looking to replace the charging port on my nexus 5. Dies anyone here have any experience with buying generic / cheap eBay parts? I've replaced a couple of screens i bought off eBay that work fine but never something like this.
Will it affect the charging speed?
Is this as easy as it looks?
Sorry for the noob questions
Did you know, there's an official spare parts shop for LG devices?
http://www.lg.com/support/parts-accessories
If you like to know how to disassemble and reassemble your device, look at YouTube for it! There're lots of good step by step tutorials. I recently exchanged my batterie. I bought one at the shop linked obove an replaced it after watsching a video tutorial on YouTube. Took about 15 Minutes.

I didn't know that, thanks for the link, but since I plan to upgrade to the Oneplus 2 when it comes out, or maybe a Sony, I don't need it to last more than a few months at most, that's why I was looking at the eBay instead of checking for original parts, and also looking for people's experiences here with similar products, I thank you a lot though for your link, it's great to know such a thing exists in case of future phones
It should be fine. Batteries and screens are the things that people have problem with. It's an easy part to fit
