HTC U11 Sprint Wi-Fi Calling - HTC U11 Questions & Answers

Anyone having trouble with wifi calling? I bought 2 of these phones one for me and one for wife. Her wifi calling works fine. Mine will not turn on. The little slider, just immediately goes back to the left when I try to enable it.

Mobile data suddenly stops working

I have experienced this twice already. Tried turning off data, radio and turning back on don't work. Must restart device to get back data. I am using notification toggle and using its 4g menu, I tried to test ping but the error is IP address unreachable.
Just a headsup for anyone who experienced this as I doubt there is a fix because I can't really pinpoint what went wrong.

Did you have wifi on? What are you on 1.73?
I had a similar issue where if I had wifi on with the stock firmware I would at random lose data connection turning off wifi then turning it back on seemed to fix it. I have since rooted and updated to 1.82 and so far haven't had the issue.
Just happened to me again about 20 minutes ago. I went into settings/mobile network/access point names and the checked the circle by AT&T PTA. I have NO idea what this does, but it immediately reconnected me to the data network.

I had this last week, update to 1.85 and it should be fixed.
Edit: retracted. Still have the problem on 1.85.

Yeah I've had that happen to me a couple times. Very annoying. You have to reboot for it to start working. Hasn't happened yet ever since going on cleanrom though

I switched to a new sim and that fixed my data connection issues. The sim that shipped in my preorder seemed to have problems.
It's happened to me a handful of times aswell.
However you do not need to restart your device. Turning airplane mode on then off will reconnect you.
I've been having this issue since day 1 as well. toggling airplane mode does not fix anything either. happens on both 4g and LTE, however it seems much more frequent on LTE and the phone really heats up when it happens.

It's only happened to me on 1.85. Sometimes when it happens I can't make calls, sometimes just Internet. Every time I've had 3 bars to full on signal.

How long have you had the new sim?
I also got a new sim. That was Saturday. I haven't dropped calls or been unable to call but I have lost data. Shows 4 bars but no 4g in a 4g area. When I go to settings it said not connected to mobile network. (maybe not exact terminology) restarting fixed it.

I have had the SIM about a week to 10 days. I remember reading about people having this issue and thought maybe it was the SIM. Worked for me so far.
I was like u and had the same issue except I would have to reboot the phone to regain a data connection.

I've lost data connection once, I did a quick on/off of mobile data in settings and it started working fine again.

i tried that, also airplane mode. only thing worked for me was a reboot
I get this when I go in a low signal area, and in Vegas no matter the signal strength. Just random data drops.

This is the same for me. Mine went out yesterday morning and I left it alone to see if it would correct itself, then tried toggling data, then airplane mode. Nothing worked but a reboot.

I ll add to the list. Same issue, and only reboot solves it. I thought it was a sim issue as well, and will get mine replaced to see if it solves the issue, as it is happening more frequently. And seems to happen when I put the phone into airplane mode when using a sleep monitoring app, the signal will not come back unless the phone is rebooted.
Rogers one X on virgin, 1.73
Yup this happens to me a lot.
I don't like auto setup so my data is only on when I switch it on.
Several times data will drop off and not come back.
I tested this out at home where it's mostly WiFi for me....happened several times.
Reboot is the only thing that fixes it.
It's random and once I reboot it seems fine, but still annoying.
This is just data. I have not had WiFi issues much. I'm still 1.7 ....

Same when I had the issue, airplane mode didn't fix it. For me it only happened on LTE, can't remember ever happening on "4G".
Strange but I really haven't had this issue since upgrading to 1.85. Maybe it will come back.

OTA Update did not fix WIFI calling.

I just got the update today. According to the changleog it was supposed to fix WIFI calling. However I saw absolutely no difference. WIFI calling still crackles and chops all the time and it has unusable echo with the speakerphone on.
On top of that now Fligh mode always shows "Turning off..." when I have the WIFI turned on. I did a factory reset, still no change in either one of these issues.
What is your experience with the new software?
I don't have the static that I previously had and the delay doesn't seem to be as bad, however calls aren't consistently coming through to my phone (over wifi calling) since I did the update.
I also found that Wifi Calling got worse with the update. A lot of people saying their calls are going straight to my voicemail, and when I try to dial out I have to try a few times before the call actually connects. Also, the crackle and pop noise is still present as it was before the update too. I hope more people complain about this issue so they can patch it sooner!
I'm also having the same issue and I'm having to rely on that service more because for some reason I don't have that great of coverage in my area anymore. Went from having great 4g at my house to being able to barely pick up 2g

Yeah same here with the problems. I get the crackling and popping now. I actually think it started since the update. The other weird problem is my voicemail icon does not go away even after clearing all the voicemails. Not sure if this is because I pay for the VM to text option? Oh and lastly when people call, it shows up as unknown a lot. Dunno WTF!

Going to settings option then call option there's an option to clear voicemail notifications. I just got the phone today and had to do that to clear. I haven't tested calls over WiFi I'm going to give it a try in the morning I hope it doesn't disappoint but it seems everyone is having issues.
Edit: I just gave WiFi calling a little test by calling a 1800 porn number and unfortunately I do hear some cracking or popping every couple of seconds.

I don't think you're going to get cell quality with WiFi calling. I had issues with the g2x as well.

OK I'll bite...
A few things before I give you an answer here so answer these honestly ok...
1. What router do you have and what frequency is it set for and how long have you had it.
2. What's your providers bandwidth that your using? Is it DSL, broadband, T1....
3. What security are you using on your router when you connect to it?
I'll check back in the morning and give you an honest answer....
EDIT: people are expecting 4G quality from the internet and you'll NEVER get cell quality even with the best router running a T1 connection dedicated to just wifi calling, this is a free service for those who have minute plans instead of paying for unlimited service. There are ways to clean up the quality of these connections if your willing to have the patience to reconfigure your router a little and how good your ISP is and working with the limitations if there are any.
Mine is usable as well, just the popping noise is quite a nuisance.

WiFi hotspot off during call.

Anyone know of a way to stop the WiFi hotspot from being turned off every time I get a call/lose data? Thanks
Old post I know but I have the same issue. I'm coming from a LGGFlex (and Flex 2) that when I was using hotspot, if i got a phone call, the tether would stop of course, but after the phone call, the hotspot would automatically start working again. Now when a call comes in it turns completely off, so i have to go back into hotspot settings and turn it back on. Very aggravating . Is there a fix?
I'm guessing maybe it turns off because of the note's inability to use data while on a call. Not sure about it turning itself back on after ending the call...haven't really been using hotspot since getting my note.
Sent from my SM-N920P using Tapatalk
naw my last 2 phones were sprint spark compatible, so they'd disconnect when on phone call (unless on that spark band which is nonexistent it appears in my area). Bascially the hotspot would just freeze while on a phone call, but again, once I hang up, it would just start to tether again with no interaction. Now a big notice comes up saying hotspot has ended. Then I have to go back in to turn it on. Any auto script?
Only way I can think of getting what you want is to use Google hangouts for calls.
That's just how it always worked on Samsung phones. Annoying, I know. Go back to LG maybe? Lol

Verizon apps on unlocked model

Anyone else seeing a bunch of Verizon apps when browsing their app list via settings on the unlocked model? I'm on T-Mobile and yet have Verizon Login, vzw_api, VZW_multicast_mw, vzwapn, vzw oma trigger (cannot be disabled). What gives?
My guess is that Google put these in there since the Pixel was built to work with Verizon as the "exclusive" carrier. But it still doesn't make sense since Verizon dabbles with the software on their version anyway.

The ones that come pre-installed are for WiFi calling, VVM, and Video Calling.
Both models will install extra apps from the Play Store if setup with a VZW sim-card.

I get this, Sprint also has an app or two pre-installed to handle their carrier specifics. It doesn't mean that they are "active".

Sorry if this is considered a hijack, but if I buy an unlocked version from Google, will it work with Verizon WiFi calling? Anyone tested this?

I've read that the answer is yes, WiFi calling should work for both Verizon and T-Mobile on the unlocked Pixels. I don't know how to tell if it's working on mine. I have an unlocked Pixel on Verizon. If someone knows how to tell, please let me know and I'll check.

Put it in airplane mode, then turn wifi back on and try to make a call.
On my Galaxy S7 I first had to enable wifi calling. Verizon does wifi calling differently from everyone else, it is part of advanced calling, and that is why I am dubious that it works on the unlocked version.

oddly i dont see them in my apps list (I'm on unlocked from google store version), but I DO see them when I scroll through my lists of apps in the battery optimization menu. I just randomly noticed this like 20 minutes ago for a totally unrelated reason. also, screw verizon.

I enabled WiFi calling, put it in airplane mode, turned on WiFi, and attempted to make a call. The phone told me to come out of airplane mode. I checked the settings and saw that WiFi calling was set to prefer cellular network. I saw no way to change the preference to WiFi. Seems it will only do WiFi calling if there is no cellular coverage available.

Other carriers let you change the preference to WiFi, but not Verizon. I've had that message before and had to reboot and try again on my S7. If you are on a poor cell signal, the phone will switch to WiFi, and you will get a small WiFi icon on the call screen. If I answer a call in my house with the cell radio on, it takes about 3 seconds to switch over. During those 3 seconds the person I'm talking to is saying "hello," "hello." So, I try to leave my phone in airplane mode with WiFi on when at home.

This is all it takes for me. I don't know about receiving calls via WiFi yet though. I doubt that it made a difference, but I'll mention that I partially set up my Google Store purchased device over WiFi before turning it off and inserting my Verizon SIM. I didn't log into any accounts while on WiFi, only after putting in the SIM. It also updated from build NDE63L to NDE63P, and I have some VZW specific apps as mentioned, but they're not in the app drawer.
