Bricked Honor 8 - My last try! - Honor 8 Questions & Answers

Hey guys,
I'm not far from just buying a new phone - so, this is my last try to get my phone running again with your help.
Two days ago I tried rooting my phone (Honor 8 FRD-L09 - OS: Android 7.0 Nougat) and it miserably failed.
I'm pretty depressed at the moment, so please don't mind if I list every small detail I did, in hope that someone can help me:
Installed Minimal ADB and fastboot on my Windows 10 machine: Version 1.4 - 17.10.2016.
I plugged in my phone and started the fastboot mode (Vol-Down + Power).
Now I got my code for unlocking the bootloader from Huawei, started a PowerShell and executed: "fastboot oem unlock ****************".
The unlock was successful and after rebooting the fastboot mode screen said: "Phone UNLOCKED".
Downloaded TWRP (twrp-3.0.2-0-frd.img) and placed the .img file inside the adb folder on my machine.
Back into PowerShell I typed "fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.0.2-0-frd.img" and "fastboot reboot".
After rebooting I pressed Vol-Up + Power to boot into TWRP.
In TWRP I recocnized that my Internal Storage AND my SD Card were list under storage both with 0MB.
Anyway I went along: Downloaded and placed SuperSU-v2.82-201705271822.zip with "adb push SuperSU-v2.82-201705271822.zip /sdcard" to my phone.
When I tried to install the SuperSU-v2.82-201705271822.zip in TWRP over the Install Button there was an Error in the log console: "Unable to Mount /data".
I've googled the issue and stumbled over a thread in a random forum I can't remember - anyway, some user said I have to format the partition because /data is in some kind encryption mode.
I opened the ADB shell in TWRP and entered a command that user mentioned to format the partition - after that things got ****ed up!
Now when boot my phone I get an test screen: two rectangles in blue and red and an green background.
After the testscreen there comes the message "Your device has been unlocked and cant be trusted. Press: Power to continue, Power-Up to enter erecovery".
When I press Power-Up the EMUI logo appears and I can start "Download lastest version and recovery" -> This fails with the message "Getting package info failed".
So, I downloaded the "Honor 8_Firmware_FRD-L09_Android 6.0_EMUI 4.1_C432B131_Western Europe.zip" extracted the dload folder witth the UPDATE.APP to my sd card.
I rebooted the phone, pressed Vol-Up + Vol-Down + Power to execute the firmware -> The install process is sarting but fails at 5% with "System installation failed.".
I installed HuaweiUpdateExtractor and extracted the boot-, recovery-, cust-, system.img placed these files inside the adb folder and executed the following commands:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img -> SUCCESS!
fastboot flash boot boot.img -> FAILED (remote: Command not allowed).
fastboot flash system system.img -> FAILED (remote: Command not allowed).
fastboot flash cust cust.img -> FAILED (remote: Command not allowed).
After rebooting my phone got stuck at the normal boot screen mentioned in point 14.
The extraction and fastboot flash process I repeated with the rollback package: Honor 8_Rollback Package_FRD-L09_from Android 7.0 EMUI 5.0 to Android 6.0 EMUI 4.1_C900B300_German.zip.
With exact the same result.
I also tried this with the Nougat 7.0 UPDATE.APP -> same result as mentioned.
Status quo:
Got odd test screen (red, green, blue) right after starting the phone.
My phone can only boot to the fastboot mode.
eRecovery fails with "Getting package info failed.".
Flashing from SDCARD fails at 5% with "System installation failed.".
Tried to install TWRP again -> no chance, got stuck at the screen mentioned in point 14.
I appreciate EVERY help!
Greetings from the depressed Honor 8 rooting hell,
Jan

Unfortunately I think you haven't disabled the frp lock so you won't be able to flash any thing on the fastboot... You could try to flash twrp again and flash everything from it, but before that boot on erecovery and format /data here (one time i had your problem and I fixed it on erecovery). After that I suggest you to unlock frp from developer's setting and retry to flash root

If I boot on eRecovery I only have three options:
Download lastest version and recovery
Reboot
Shutdown
There is no option to format anything from eRecovery.

So, how do I proceed now?
If I choose "Download lastest version and recovery" the process failed with "Getting package info failed.".
I've also tried flashing TWRP again:
Downloaded TWRP (twrp-3.0.2-0-frd.img) and placed the .img file inside the adb folder on my machine.
In the PowerShell I typed "fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.0.2-0-frd.img" and "fastboot reboot".
After boot I got the screen with the message "Your device has been unlocked and cant be trusted. Press: Power to continue, Power-Up to enter erecovery".
When I choose continue the process get stucked with the message "Your system is booting now..." but nothing happens.

If your phone Had RGB test screen, You had to go for service centre , one of my friend got the same issue on his honor 8 , service center replaced him with new internal board . before giving it to service center must be locked bootloader

Thank you - I'll try it now! One question:
Do I extract the BOOT.img and RECOVERY.img from the rollback or the firmware package? You didn't mention this in your guide.

[HELP!] I completely bricked my Mate 8...

Hi,
after two days attempting to upgrade my Mate to Nougat with various troubles, now it seems totally bricked.
Dload method fails (black screen after reboot). Fastboot commands give me "FAILED (remote: Command not allowed)".
My Mate is an AL10 rebranded to NXT-L29 time ago.
Is there something I can do??
Hi Zappomax, I had the sames issues in Fastboot, I used Huawei SRK Tool to install TWRP, Root,... and I used Huawei Update Extractor to install the ROM.

Tuto Huawei Update Extractor : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3rw78gAl3k
How to flash after (thanks to franzyroy) :
Turn off your phone.
Connect it to your PC via the USB cable.
Hold down Volume Down and Power to boot into Fastboot mode.
Get your 4 extracted files and copy them to the folder of Minimal ADB & Fastboot. (where you can find the adb.exe and fastboot.exe)
If the copying is done, open up a command promt.
Check if your device is connected via the fastboot devices command.
If it is, then flash the BOOT.IMG file entering fastboot flash boot BOOT.IMG
Next, flash the RECOVERY.IMG by typing: fastboot flash recovery RECOVERY.IMG
After that, flash the SYSTEM.IMG with the fastboot flash system SYSTEM.IMG command. *
Lastly, flash the CUST.IMG by typing fastboot flash cust CUST.IMG
If all the flashing is done, restart your phone with the fastboot restart command.
It worked for me, I came back to EMUI 4.0 and I flashed EMUI 5.0 after and everything is working fine.

My code is right. I used it several times.
I'm not completely sure but if I remember right oem unlock and usb debugging was both on.
Anyway a factory reset, shouldn't fix that problem? And why even a dload install doesn't work? Dload goes to 100% but once phone reboots, I get only a black screen.
I'm really frustrated! I'm losing hope to save my phone...

Just be patient, I once had to wait half an hour with a black screen before it came back alive.
If nothing is working, head to DC-unlocker Phoenix and pay a little money and try using method 1!
Use correct firmware, try the B2xx one.
There's another hope.
Since basically yours is A10, flash Chinese firmware and you will be able to restore

DC Phoenix is my last chance.
Every times I rollback to Nougat by Dload, I used NXT-L29C432B320 and it worked fine (except last time). So I think I have to use this rom with DC Phoenix.
Is it correct?

failed to rebrand from AL10 to FL19 - now bricked - need help

I have totally failed to rebrand my FRD-AL10 (EMUI 5, Nougat) to FRD-L19 (because I was hoping to get rid of all the apps/functions/messages in Chinese) by following the steps listed on another thread.
I did eventually manage to get it to identify as FRD-L19 but when it did boot up it had no stock keyboard only voice commands and the phone was unusable . it said it was Android 7, model FRD-L19 and build number was nrd90m test keys?
I tried to update with the latest FRD-L19 update.app by copying it into the dload and vol up+vol down +power buttons press but the update failed and since then I am stuck with the phone refusing to boot, or to boot into twrp recovery.
It hangs at the booting now orange letters screen (It says "Your device is booting now...." and nothing more happens.
If I hold vol up and power up, it hangs at "Your device is booting now...."
If I wait until it says I can press vol up for Erecovery it goes into Huawei erecovery and that tries to download latest version update by wifi, it connects to wifi but says "Getting package info failed".
If I go to reboot from erecovery it goes back to the Your device is booting now.... and stops.
I can shutdown from erecovery (but if its still plugged in it goes straight back to "Your device is booting now...")
From shutdown (and unplugged from USB) - if I hold vol up+ vol down + power it goes to EMUI Installing update then Software Install failed. The update package does not exist. Please download the package again. Reboot system now.
I don't know how to put an alternative update package into dload when I can only use fastboot mode and nothing else?
I can do that by shutting it own from erecovery shut down page and holding down volume and power up.
I assume I need to go back to stock firmware for FRD-AL10 like this one from another thread FRD-AL10_C00B135_Firmware_China_Nonspecific_Android 6.0_EMUI 4.1_05013LBP
and not version 7.0 stock rom for FLD-L19???
Anyway, I unzipped that and use Huawei extractor tool to extract Boot.img, cust.img, recovery.img and sys.img as suggested on this thread.
I can fastboot flash 3 of those but the cust.img fails to flash with "partition error"
I also tried to fastboot format user data but the command failed FAILED (remote: Command not allowed)
I don't think its possible to use the unbrick function of huawei multitool because I can't get into recovery mode?
I don't think I can get a different copy of update.app file into the dload folder internal memory and use the vol up+ vol down +power buttons because I can no longer get the phone to boot to system.
The fastboot screen says PHONE Unlocked
FRP Unlock
Would be very grateful for suggestions on what I should be doing to unbrick this, please. Sorry for being a stupid newbie.... and I honestly have been reading these threads day and night for 2 days but am still stuck!!
Thanks
Edit: is part of the answer to try to flash a different version of twrp again? So I have to put the right version of twrp.img into my adb folder and then fastboot flash recovery twrp*****.img ? Then I might be able to fastboot boot recovery ? Or if twrp works I can flash the right stock rom? (which one? given I was trying to rebrand)
Or if I could somehow get back system to boot, I could use adb push to put the correct update.app into dload on internal memory and use the vol up+ vol down +power???
Bro first flash the compitable twrp

That was the twrp had success with before..... but everything seemed to go wrong at step 5 of the debranding guide. Where I was supposed to do a data wipe when the device immediately rebooted after installing the zip?
Then I was confused about whether I needed to put the firmware update file into sdcard/dload or not and whether it should be internal memory /close instead. And whether the firmware was correct when it said Android 6 when the phone said it was android 7????
And then there was no keyboard only google voice.....
But I will definitely start by trying to flash that twrp again... and if that can work... then the L19 Rom from your debranding guide again. And let you know.
Thanks

So held down power which started the reboot and enabled me to press vol up to enter erecovery and choose shut down.
then volume down whilst connecting usb to PC to put into fastboot mode
then copy your file twrp-3.1.1-1-frd.img to minimal adb directory on my pc
then in minimal adb: fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.1.1-1-frd.img
I have got that far.
Then do I fastboot reboot?
and hope it boots to system so I can copy over the zip file from my pc with file explorer and then
do I adb reboot recovery (to get into twrp)?
then install the FRD-L19C432B131-hw-eu-OPU_TWRP_FRD.zip file using twrp? (or do you mean another method of installing that rom)?
then still in twrp I do Wipe: format user data?
then do I reboot to system?
At what point do I need to copy the update.app to sdcard\dload and use the vol up+ vol down + power to install the update?
Thanks again

After twrp sucess you have to biot the device it will works normal but you have to go reboot to recovery and do a factory wipe and shutdown then after doebload the official firmware of frd19 which is mm and dlaod the update.app and three buttons trick it will update and relock the bootloader and update to EMUI 5 by the phone updater app in settings
I got this far:
So held down power which started the reboot and enabled me to press vol up to enter erecovery and choose shut down.
then volume down whilst connecting usb to PC to put into fastboot mode
then copy your file twrp-3.1.1-1-frd.img to minimal adb directory on my pc
then in minimal adb: fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.1.1-1-frd.img
then I rebooted and got back to the screen where system fails to load "Your device is booting now"
So I pressed power off and then held down volume up but it boots only to erecovery so I pressed shut down and decided I needed to unplug usb.
I tried again with holding down volume up and powering up and managed to boot into twrp.
In twrp I do wipe: swipe to factory reset.
Twrp says Failed to mount '/cust' (invalid argument)
and Failed to mount '/system' (invalid argument)
with windows explorer on my pc and the phone in twrp I can only see the /sdcard but I can see the FRD-L19C432B131-hw-eu-OPU_TWRP_FRD.zip is there.
So in twrp I go to install and I try to flash FRD-L19C432B131-hw-eu-OPU_TWRP_FRD.zip from /external_sd (with the zip signature check and reboot after install boxes unchecked)
It starts to write UPDATE.APP..... Completed! script succeeded....
E: unknown command []]
updating partition details....
Failed to mount /cust (invalid argument)
Failed to mount /data (device or resource busy)
Failed to mount /system (invalid argument)
Failed to mount /product (invalid argument)
I try to wipe data and get the same Failed to mount messages
I down load Honor 8_Firmware_FRD-L19_Android 6.0_EMUI 4.1_C432B131_United Kingdom .zip on my pc and unzip it.
I copy the dload folder including update.app to Honor 8:microSDcard
Then I went to power off in twrp so I could do the 3 button load from dload but twrp says "No OS installed! Are you sure you want to power off?"
So I'm not sure? Please can you help again?

bro neglet the mount issues after update.app write sucess reboot the phone once and let it boot comoletly .after that dload the offical ROM of frd l19 . and do a reset in stock recovery.
Ok so I rebooted and EMUI said it was doing a factory reset
then the phone booted up with asking me for language, wifi password
then it wants to do a quick update FRD-L19432B360 2.83 GB so I hit quick update.
then it reboots like a normal set up and the keyboard works and everything looks ok. It says that the build number is FRD-L19432B360
Do I still need to do the dload?
Thank you so much - I would never have got this far otherwise!

Bro but i will suggest you to from marshmallow go directly to the new update of nougat using firmware finder because, the update from b360 is stopped, sh!t huawei server stopped the update idk y , many people also stucked in b360 , so my idea is just go to latest update in firmware finder from marshmallow.
Any help just reply.
If you got another update from b360 just neglet my above steps and go on . Enjoy.
It was ok today when it wanted to update to B389. Now I'm stuck back with only erecovery again.
I can get back into fastboot and unlock the phone again and I put on twrp again and got back into it but
I'm confused about which firmware I need to flash
The latest version for FRD L19 in firmware finder is B392 and I would need the 3 files - update.zip, update_full_FRD-L19_hw_eu.zip and update_data_full_public.zip and to flash all 3 - I tried that but got a lot of errors and it won't boot
But I need to flash something or put on the MM dload/MM update you posted first? do I go back to the B131 MM you linked before first? Then I somehow update to the B392?
I'm so sorry to keep asking stupid questions!!

Flash this first update_full_FRD-L19_hw_eu.zip
And then flash update.zip .
If after flashing reboot got strucked in blue screen just format factory resey in recovery.
I flashed update_full_FRD-L19_hw_eu.zip
And then flash update.zip .
They both failed with error 7?
So I went back to your B131 and my phone is unbricked but this time I didn't accept B360.
But how do I get to the latest Nougat?
From Firmware Finder I thought it was B392 for L19CB432 but maybe its B384 for L19C10??

Flashing RR-N-v5.8.4 gives this error:

Any idea ?
Thanks !

my p9 i do the things as you saying but it when it goes on fastboot stack on screen your devise is booting now...wont open and at adb says waiting for devise nothing else what to do ?
To get into fastboot mode you keep the phone plugged into computer and hold power and volume down until you get to the white fastboot screen.
There is no need to wait for the battery to drain as you can just force shut down a phone using power + volume down holding.

Hi
I came here because i tried to install miui on my P9 via trwp , somehow it wasnt mountable and after searching the internet i found the solution was to change the filetype.
Sadly i forgot that this would delete my backup, which happened and the miui still wasnt mountable.
I tried your method but after a few miliseconds of the forced update it gets an error and stops.
Or lets say i tried your method while being in trwp recovery mode because otherwise no devices are being detected by adb tool.
i tried to install a p9 stock rom but i cant even mount that one, somehow nothing works.
I seriously dont know what to do anymore.
Try this...
Try to flash downgrade firmware...
Rollback Instructions
Step 1. Download the appropriate rollback firmware
Step 2. Copy the extracted dload folder to the external storage of your phone (micro sd card).
Step 4. Disconnect the USB cable and turn your phone off.
Step 5. Now hold Volume up + Volume down + Power buttons until the installation screen appears.
Step 6. When the phone restarts after completing the installation, your firmware version should now be “B300”.
Step 7. Try to find oldest marshmallow firmware and flash it using same way...
I want to android 6.0 as twrp. How ? Pls
That is only for unlocked bootloader??
Link in Step 12 for Nougat s broken

That's the problem, when playing with ROMs you must take carw that you keep OEM Unlocked.

bricked honor 8

Hi, i have a honor 8 FRD-L09 unlocked bootloader, I don't know what was the original rom. I can't start it, I tried to install many versions, with dload nothing is working it stops at 5% and gives an error,I achieved to get one at 25% but it then failed but with fastboot and huawei extractor im able to install recovery, boot, system img files but it doesn't changes anything. I have access to erecovery but when I try to connect to a wifi it says that it's a wrong password even though im sure it's the right. If anyone is able to help me it could be nice, Thank you.
I installed twrp recovery but it still boots on emui erecovery.

You need to remove your USB cable to boot on TWRP (press "Power" and "Vol+" buttons, and only release "Power" - only hold "Vol+" - button when first blue screen appears).
If your phone is stuck on message "Device is booting...", you flashed a wrong TWRP version. Ask me if you want to try an another version.
But firstly, did you try this how-to (dload folder method): https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/how-to/problem-frd-l09-t3596449 ?
Is there a model number written bottom back of your phone? (real FRD-L09 model?)
Good luck! =)

I just tried this dload method but the software installation failed at 30%. I don't even know if flashing twrp is really useful and the number on the back of the phone is FRD-L09. I don't know what to do.

Is it "Rollback package" UPDATE.APP which fail at 30%? Try "firmware B131" UPDATE.APP directly, if you have not.
I don't know about extracting ".img" from an UPDATE.APP file and flashing them... seems dangerous. ^^
If you boot on TWRP, you will be able to follow this thing (use FRD-L09 link and do all steps and step 5. fully: "Dlload For FRD-L09" flash to complete properly): https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/how-to/guide-honor-8-to-frd-l19-t3632220
I can't help you more if it fails again, sorry...

Rollback package is okay but the firmware fails. I've tried the method with twrp but system.img won't install. I even tried to extract it and install it with fastboot but it says "cannot load system.img"

Try this 10 steps, that's the last idea I could give you...
0. Need an unlocked bootloader / Knowing how to boot on bootloader and use adb/fastboot command-line tools. (GUIDE HERE)
1. Download TWRP:
-- 1a) Recent version (EMUI 5.x installed firmware): twrp-3.1.1-1-frd.img and use fastboot command to flash it
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.1.1-1-frd.img
>>>> If phone is stuck on message "device is booting now..." when you try to boot TWRP, use old version.
-- 1b) Old version (EMUI 4.1 installed firmware): twrp-3.0.2-0-frd-modaco-rc1.img and use fastboot command to flash it
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.0.2-0-frd-modaco-rc1.img
2. Download this modded FRD-L09C432B131 firmware (.zip): here
3. Copy the zip file to your SD card. (You can do that when your phone is booted on TWRP: plug your USB cable)
4. In TWRP, go to "Wipe" > "Format Data".
5. In TWRP, go to "Flash" > Select the zip file and flash!
6. When finished, do step 4 again before rebooting your phone!
7. Phone can take some minutes to boot, take it easy! If it works, download "stock" (original) B131 firmware: https://www.hihonor.com/uk/support/details/index.html?DOC_ID=92101
8. Open the zip file and extract "dload" folder on your computer. Then copy the "dload" folder inside your SD card (root of the SD card).
9. Flash it with "Power" + "Vol-" + "Vol+" buttons.
10. Last step (RECOMMENDED) - Factory reset: how-to

Oukitel WP2 root issues - twrp not installing

Sorry, can not find any threads her on this
New Oukitel WP2 Android 8
Unlocked bootloader using ADB
ran "fastboot flash recovery WP2.img" and computer said finished
'phone said OK!
Tried "fastboot recovery" BUT all the 'phone will display is ==> fastboot mode in micro writing bottome left of screen
Tried volume up/power - nothing volume down/power - after warning about unlocked bootloader
bot into STANDARD Android 8 boot menu.
Having unlocked many Samsung 'phones, this is confusing me!
Also, after this how do you actually root the 'phone (or is twrp the root kit) as super SU reports
unrooted telephone.
Any clues gratefully accepted
Thanks

After fastboot flashing TWRP, type the command below.
adb reboot recovery

Thanks for reply but ONLY boots into the stock android 8 recovery and will not boot into twrp
tried various methods and each time adp says flashed recovery (tried it with different names recovery.img twrp.img etc)
and shows data transferred on 'phone screen.
BUT your suggestion and all those on the various websites but will still not boot into the custome recovery
and although I am used to working on Samsung 'phones, this one beats me! Eveb fulll factory reset 3 times!
TWRP is recovery-20181231-0237.img from multiple sites.
I do not know how to find if the recovery has actually been installed or something is stopping it running.
Just tried again in case:-
ANDROID RECOVERY
OUKITEL /WP2/WP2
8.0.0/o00623/1532584305
user/release-keys
use vol.....
hen usual list+-
reboot system now
reboot to bootloader
etc etc
no TWRP
'Phone does show "strange condition - unlocked bootloader - device can not be trusted" on each boot,
so everything else seems fine.
Spent 5 hours on this! Was going to use super su but could use magisk instead IF I can get to the
recovery stage!

After flashing TWRP, you can't let the device boot to any other mode, you have to boot directly to recovery. If you allow the device to boot into any mode other than recovery, it will revert back to stock recovery. The only way to keep TWRP is to boot directly into TWRP immediately after flashing.
Try this, flash the TWRP file using the fastboot flash recovery (name of file) command. Then, after it flashes, try using this command:
fastboot boot recovery (name of your specific file)
This may allow you to boot into TWRP and keep TWRP recovery so that you can boot into it at any time after that.

Thanks for reply but does not work...
WP2 has already had bootloader unlocked developer options and adb commands, including an automatic wipe of 'phone.
Then without touching anything else, the follwoing have been entered from a clean boot of 'phone and Win7. twrp.img file is named "recovery.img" in same directory as adb etc (C:\ for testing)
twrp file is "recovery.img" in same directory as adb etc (C:\ for testing)
twrp file is "recovery.img" in same directory as adb etc (C:\ for testing)
issue command> adb reboot bootloader
computer response OK
'phone shows "fastboot" in miniscule text
issue command> "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
computer says> "target reported max download size 134217728 bytes"
then
"sending 'recovery' (15010kb)"
then
"OKAY [0.65 seconds}"
then
"writing 'recovery'..."
then
"finished. total time 1.06 s"
'phone says "transmission ok then a checksum"
after a wait
issue command> "fastboot boot recovery.img"
computer says "downloading 'boot.img'"
then
"OKAY 0.64 s"
then
"booting....."
then OKAY 0.47s"
then
"finished"
'Phone boots into normal logo then to a NORMAL STARTUP - NOT to any bootloader
argh!!!
adb devices returnes OUKIWP2000015176
Any clues as to what is wrong or what I am missing!
cheers

Still not working
If anyone else is reading this post I am still unable to flash the twrp recovery
downloaded from http://www.mediafire.com/file/cp6cw164fse2bpa/Oukitel_WP2_twrp.rar/file
Every time I try the flash commands it looks like it has sent to device - only takes 0.5 seconds and
'phone says received.
Unable to boot into recovery twrp - always comes back with stock android 8 recovery OR an error
message about can not open.
Any more suggestions please as annoying! OR is there adifferent twrp recovery out there I can
]use with Odin? or Magiisk?
Many thanks
