Hey everyone, first post here. Been a Droid Eris user with KaosFroyo/CM for a few months now, and everything has been awesome until a few days ago.
I lost all data connectivity.
2G, 3G, WiFi, same exact symptoms. Every app that uses data throws the error in its own specific manner, but always some variant of "No data connection" or "Network unavailable" or "Check your connection" etc. etc.
On the handshake level, everything seems normal. I can connect to WiFi networks and it does the usual "Obtaining IP Address..." --> "Connected." I get the WiFi logo in the notification bar. And I have the 3G logo unless I turn cell data off, and it's up/down arrows even flash a little right after I turn cell data on.
It broke almost a week ago, so you can be sure I've tried many WiFi networks and many cell towers and rebooted many times and taken the battery out... all the usual stuff. There is something seriously wrong. Help!
Thanks,
Mike
I'd try a master reset. If that doesn't change anything, call your service provider and see if the phone can be swapped for another under warranty. Did this with a Droid 1 a few months back with Verizon w/o any problems.
Good luck!
Edit: I just noticed you are running a mod on that phone. Have you run Fix Permissions? Sometimes that irons out bugs that appear. I'd get with the developers and see what they say. One thing you could try is to re-install that mod. Be sure to wipe all data when you do. It'll be like starting over; but, starting over with the mod installed.
Good luck!
Back up and wipe the phone and reinstall the rom
Master reset did the trick. Unfortunately I didn't have great backup tools, and I couldn't even install new ones due to lack of connectivity (and apk's not always available). Saved my sms history at least, by copying the database to sd and back, thanks to root.
Really appreciate the noob help culture. (must say, it's weird being one, as I'm generally proficient except that I joined the Android world by purchasing a pre-rooted/modded phone)
Hi guys,
I'm using moto g for about 2 weeks and everything was fine until yesterday. I will try to explain what I've chronologically. My phone isn't rooted. Android 4.4.2, 174.44.9.falcon_umta.Retail.en.GB, KLB20.9-1.10-1.9
For last few days I was testing some battery stretching apps, such as Juice Defender, 2x Battery, GreenPower and maybe one more, but I don't remember the name. Finally I've bought Juice Defender Plus as that app was something that I needed (control mobile and wifi in an intelligent way, but that's not the point). Before JD I've uninstalled other battery aps (but without reverting their settings to defaults). Then I've installed JD, configured it and started to learn JD with my wifi network, whatever.
Next day I went to work and I'm not sure if mobile network was working or not, but wifi network was ok. Updates, synch, etc. was working well. I've installed 2-3 new apps (don't remember, but it was camera360, total commander with few plugins, and maybe something more). Then I've left wifi network, entered car and connected with mobile network. From this point everything stopped to work. There was no connection to any site, no synch from google, weather, and so on. Icon on top of the screen informed me that connection is online (with H or H+, sometimes worse, but probably it doesn't matter). I've tried to connect with many apps to Internet, but none of them succeeded... I thought that maybe there is something wrong with mobile and after that, when I get back to wifi coverage, everything will rise and shine.
Unfortunately when I get back to wifi zone, phone found new network and connected to it. It doesn't matter what network it is, because few days ago I was working with that wifi net and more on that, laptop connected to that network works like a charm. As I said, connected, data transfer in 3g watchdog shows very little net usage (about 200-300B/s). Can't load web pages, can't sync. The same behavior as in mobile, there is connection, very little data usage, but nothing more, no web pages, no sync, etc..
I've restarted phone many times, entered in airplane mode, removed, cleaned and inserted back the sim card - none helped. I've checked ip, gateway and dns which came from dhcp router in wifi network. Everything was fine, addresses were the "same" as my laptop (beside ip address, which was different). I've checked what's up with JD, then I've disabled it, uninstalled..., checked transfer limit for mobile, turned on and off mobile, wifi in many ways. Checked proxy in browser (chrome).
The result was always the SAME.
in chrome: entered address, page starts to load, nothing shows and stalls, after a little while (tens of seconds) there was a message telling me something like: page is unavailable (I can't remember the right message).
in gmail: sync lasts forever, when I send email (to myself) it popups message about sending, but it disappears in a while, a no new email...
other apps, for example, weather on main screen, sync could last to eternity, and no new data.
Today, after whole day without wifi coverage I went back to wifi zone and tried to connect to it... and all emails, sync, whatsup and so on, updated. I think that, I didn't change nothing, but why wifi started to work? I don't know.
I've checked if mobile Internet works as it should, but without any positive results. In mobile there is the same problem as for a last 2 days...
Does someone know any solution to my problem?
PS: I've even tried to enter ip address of wp.pl host, and then phone redirected me to address: 194.9.223.70/ns/cs/deny.html?trx=...something&tpd=3&ts=somenumber&sid=HTTP_DRSTD&url=...mobile[dot]orange[dot]pl
Are you able to send & receive calls? Have you checked your APN as well? Wondering if one of the apps you've tried has changed a setting or set itself as some kind of proxy that your phone's still trying to use even though you've uninstalled it.....not sure......had a similar experience when I tried out a firewall app & removed it without disabling the settings it applied. Can't think of anything else, sorry mate

Yes, sms and calls works fine. APN is okey, moment ago I've sent configuration sms for internet apn from my operator. I know that it could be one of my apps, which I've uninstalled, but I don' know which one it was .
Might be worth checking device administrators in settings as well just in case the culprits there? Good luck

Checked that, there is only Android device manager (sorry, maybe there is another translation, I'm not using EN lang in my phone) enabled. The rest dev admins are disabled.
Factory reset. That way you start from scratch and if still a problem you can rule out any apps or incorrect config etc. Its the easiest way to narrow down the issue.

maybe it's the easiest way, but I think it's not an option if I want to know what was wrong...
Sounds like one of the apps is the problem, as you already suspect. You may have to concede and do a factory reset:
Settings > Backup & reset > Factory data reset
Please make some effort... factory reset is not the first thing to do when sth is wrong.

I suggested a factory reset as this then rules out all apps and config you have setup. If the problem still happens after a factory reset then you have narrowed down the problem a lot. Possibly it will just fix it though.
However if you want to find the cause of the issue then factory resetting is not the best thing to do as you say. But you seem to have installed a whole bunch of apps in a short space of time so even if you find the problem I doubt you will be able to find out why it happened, ie which app caused it.
You will maybe fix it but never know what caused it or how to prevent it again.
If you factory reset and it fixes it you can take things more slowly this time, is install apps and configure more slowly until you hit the problem, then its easier to see what caused it.
As there was no chance to get other suggestions than "do factory reset" , I've made factory default. Unfortunately, without any change in my problem. Right now wifi works fine, but 3g/data is dead. I've checked my sim card in another phone and 3g/data didn't work too. So I've called to my telco and heard that everything is ok, but probably my sim card is damaged and that's why my data connection is dead. I will try to get new sim card tomorrow.

So those of us suggesting a factory reset were correct then. Had you not reset you would have spent wasted time trying to fix what now appears to be a sim card error. Possibly best not to tell people to 'make an effort' when they are trying to help.
As stated I'm using the LG G5 H830 T-Mobile variant. I am getting 4G LTE data connection and everything runs well (Not in any WiFi range) Yet for SMS and calling as well as mobile hotspot I get "No USIM card' error. This happened after wiping the system and formatting data. Rebooted recovery (as per instructions on forum) then installed the stock firmware & Patch with systemless root and xposed. After this I did factor reset when just pulling the sim didn't help. Still nothing. I reflashed just the stock firmware with TWRP and SuperSU and issue is still happening. I've disabled rebooted and enabled the phone radio. SIM is in good condition and tray as well everything is SECURE and should be good to go.
I'm assuming a new SIM might be a solution. But I'm not counting on it and with Labor Day tomorrow for me I wouldn't be able to pick one up for 2 days. So here I am...hoping someone might have a fix. I know I don't have many posts on here. But I am an experienced user....just not with the more basic of problems I guess
Thanks!!
Has anyone else experienced this yet? I'm just curious...I had it fixed for a couple days. I've formatted data and done complete system wipe. Tried it resetting phone with the COMPLETE zip and TOT using LGUP. I'm receiving texts. Not calls. Not able to send either. I've activated new sim, didn't help. LG support just told me to look into warranty. T-Mobile needless to say just wanted. Sim card does show stock tmobile short code contacts but phone number shows as unknown. Hotspot won't work. I've tried setting the phone number to the sim. Nothing.
Anyways. I don't think I messed with anything, even so I've done everything to start the phone from scratch. Going to replace it, just more or less curious at this point and maybe others have had the same issue.
I believe I had the same issue as you and it was driving me crazy. I was constantly wiping data, system, etc but my phone kept giving the message "roaming indicator off" where it should show the name of the carrier. This resulted in me having LTE data and that's it- no 3g, no phone calls, etc. I couldn't even access the mobile network menu.
What ended up causing the issue was the network mode setting under wireless networks. Keep in mind at this point I'm running a patched rom which now gives more options in the network mode menu than the phone came factory with. I have an area at work where I have to switch to 3g, GSM/wcdma preferred network setting, because although I have full LTE signal, my connection goes dead. When switching back from 3g I chose the setting lte/CDMA thinking this would force my phone to stay in lte mode due to another area on an upper floor where the phone will constantly drop lte.
Anyways this resulted in my phone saying roaming indicator unavailable, the inability to make or receive phone calls, and either the mobile networks or network mode menus being grayed out. When stuck in this mode there is no way to put the phone back into the standard "GSM/wcdma/lte" mode. Even a complete reflash won't fix it. I even used lgup, which worked for maybe a day until it force closed the phone app and went back to roaming indicator unavail. I wiped every partition and even reflashed radio firmware. Nothing worked.
What ended up fixing it was using an app called v10 hidden settings which allowed me to access the network mode menu directly and re-choose the lte/wcdma/GSM setting. Incidentally on first access to this menu through the app there are only two network settings available. Once you choose a GSM setting, the rest appear.
I'm not sure if this was your issue but I hoped this helped because this took me about a week to workout.
Hi
My phone upgraded to Pie 2 days ago and since the update my WiFi no longer connects. My phone can see the various networks and when I try to connect it is like it is stuck in an authentication loop and acts like the password is incorrect. I have entered the password multiple times and even changed it too. It sits in the saved networks but will not connect. I even fiddled with the WiFi turns on automatically settings and it still doesn't work. I have tried everything even factory resetting my phone, which has been a nightmare because I lost a heap of 2FA codes with my authenticator. I have reset my router, changed SSIDs, passwords etc. Basically everything I can think of I have done. I have raised the issue with HTC and they have asked me to do what I have already done but in the meantime, while I await a response from them for my next course of action, I am wondering if any of you guys know of any issues where the WiFi doesn't work anymore. I am currently using the internet on my mobile network but I will probably burn through the data before the month is out so I am really keen to get my WiFi working again as it's going to cost me a fortune otherwise.
Thanks in advance for any responses that I may receive
Solved
Ok I fixed it. It was a weird solution all I had to do was disable my password on my network and it connected fine. I then re-enabled my network password and entered the password on my phone and it worked. This was such a frustrating issue and I don't know why it wouldn't work before. I went through some pretty drastic measures to sort it, but now I know for next time to try this. I hope this helps anyone else out with a similar issue
Hello all,
Here are the specs of the trouble phone:
Pixel 3a XL
Android Version 11
Kernel 4.9.232-ga8a0fbc4fb8e-ab696031
So yesterday I dropped my phone a little too hard and the screen stopped working. No damage, just would not turn on. I've replaced the screen myself quite a few times so I thought the internal connection had disconnected. I reset the connection but it didn't seem to fix it, so I took it to a phone repair shop. They did a diagnostic but told me they couldn't work on the phone because some of the graphite coating on the phone interior was scraped off (I accidently did that a preivous time when I was replacing to screen). They told me that the graphite was needed for connections and the motherboard might be broken so they wouldn't test any new screens and I should just recycle the phone?? mind you the phone was still working, vibrating and making noise so that didn't make any sense to me. I thanked them for nothing and left the store.
I tried to reset the screen connection and whatever they did to diagnose my phone actually made the screen work again. I think it was some kind of reset, I noticed all my app preferences were gone and my lock screen changed but I still had all my apps and such. Everything seemed to work except that I could not connect to my WiFi network. Upon entering the password and attempting to connect I am returned with a "failed to connect to network" pop-up immediately. It doesn't seem to be trying to connect at all, it just immediately fails. I can still see all the wifi networks around me, and I can connect to LTE. I can't figure out what is wrong, I've gotten this error with multiple different WiFi networks, cleared the wifi settings, tried it in safe mode, restarted; all have had no effect. I even tried a wifi app and it just returned "failed to connect, enable and disable wifi and try again", which does not change things either.
I noticed that my google play update still shows October 2020, and says I need to restart my phone to finish to update. Restarting has no effect though. I think the restart was pending when I dropped my phone, so the repair store's diagnostic may have messed something up with the update. Should I do a factory restart worse case? I can't figure out if this is even a hardware or software problem, the antennas should be fine if I can still detect WiFi sources but I don't know. Any ideas?
