EMUI 5.0 Improvements - Honor 8 Questions & Answers

Hi Guys
As all of you know, our Honor 8 has a Blocklist or Harassment Filter if you prefer built in. It has been a big disappointment compared with the one offered many years ago with the Honor 6, once it had a trigger to simply switch the feature On/Off. Any workarounds Guys???
Another nice feature to be improved is on the calling list. It will be very appreciated when you select a call on the entry list to delete it, if it provide an option to delete all the entries from that person. Don't you agree?? HTC has this feature since a long time ago on their smartphones...
The last one i miss is the ability to have an option during a call record it.
I really don't know if any of these features are available on the newer EMUI 5.1....

If you rooted your phone, you may download the file from https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/themes/call-recorder-mod-t3483068/post72380384
Then unzip it, put the folder in system/app/, then restart the phone. It works perfectly on my frd-l04.

[Q] Downgrade stock Lollipop Google Calendar app to older KitKat version

I just upgraded my Nexus 5 using the Lollipop factory image, and while I love the new OS overall, I despise the new calendar app. The removal of a monthly view that shows appointments is such a glaring flaw that I would like to remove it from my phone completely.
My question is: Is there any way to install the KitKat version of Calendar, possibly by flashing an older GApps package, without replacing the rest of the GApps? And is this possible to do so with the stock ROM? I'm not interested in throwing a custom ROM on just yet, as I'm still exploring the stock one, but not having a useful calendar is making it difficult to keep track of my day.
My goal is to: 1) replace the Lollipop calendar with the stock KitKat one while leaving the other GApps on their Lollipop versions and 2) updating the calendar app to the latest pre-redesign version via an apk sideload (I have the apk.)
Is this possible?
Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!
I doubt it will work but you can modify a gapps package by deleting everything else and test it. You'll want to nandroid backup though.
I'm not positive what the stock calendar is in kitkat but IIRC I downloaded the old version of calendar from the play store - at the time some guy (Thomas something?) was hosting it, essentially rebuilt from the old apk. Might be worth a look.
Tap at the month name (november) and get the monthly view? Just a suggestion until you find a way to replace it with kitkat's

The difference is that it the month view used to be a static view, as opposed to a fly out menu. It also used to show coloured boxes inside of the day boxes to represent appointments. Now, the month view is no longer an actual view and it doesn't show appointments at all. Clicking a day from the month menu takes you to the cluttered schedule view, which I find to be too busy and more difficult to read.
The thing that sucks is that the month view that I want is still available on tablets. They just cut it from phones.
They pushed an update today that makes the "5 day" week view more tolerable. Hopefully they bring back the full month view too.

I'll be watching to see if anyone is successful in this. I do have the monthly view on my Nexus 7, but the aspect that annoys me the most right off the bat is the new layout with the gratuitous graphics at the top of the screen which waste valuable screen real estate without any function. I have to scroll around more than before. Honestly I preferred the old email app to the new Gmail app.
If I can't revert to older apps then I may just roll back the tablet to Kitkat entirely, which seemed to be snappier on the Nexus 7 than Lollipop anyway.
I hate a new calendar on phone as well. It is absolutely useless, does not have month view and week numbers. The month view overtaken from iOS is awful and also on iOS people are complaining. I do not understand why Google copies everything.
If you find some solution please let us know here. Meanwhile I am looking for different calendar app

I use Business Calander, the free version works fine.
Maybe not ideal, but if you have Xposed you could use App Settings to set the DPI for Calendar to something close to the N7's so that it shows you the view you want. Might be pretty hard to read on the N5, but maybe it's worth a shot?

No biggie
Im using this one, rebuild from old aosp...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.concentriclivers.calendar
I don't want to install a 3rd part calandar to be able to view weeknumber, unless I can uninstall this crap.
Someone said that if I do uninstall it, it would brake sync.
Not sure if that is true though.
not happy with lollipop calendar
I use calendar intensively on my nexus 5, not amused with all missing functionality on lollipop calendar, especially all overviews, not a week view in portrait?? Not an option to zoom and see full day in one screen?? help i need my handy calendar!
I have tried several calendars on Google Play but at the end I have switched to the one linked 2 posts above. The problem with most of calendar applications is that they are either awful (e.g. Business calendar) or useless. The old AOSP calendar is a good compromise in my opinion.
so glad its not just me
I also want to uninstall lollipop because of this. Glad I found this post. Why are they messing with the calendar??
As all of you, i hate the lollipop calendar, BUT i did find a somewhat good alternative. Its called Today Calendar and it comes with a 30 day trial.....but who said you cant get the *cough* apk* *cough*, i mean pay for the app later. Seems to be doing an ok job for now, and weeks are somewhat back to normal.
I would still prefer google to un**** up its calendar though.

Hi, I updated to MM yesterday and phone works a little bit faster, more smooth on menu or setting changes.
I dont see any UI or UX changes.
Fingerprint sensor was very laggy and hard time to read and I rescanned my fingers to get it work.
Camera software is same (overall taking good pics)
Cannot say anything about battery just updated the device
Process takes long time and first I got error via LG Bridge ( For Mac ) and then tried OTA, after 3 hours I was able to connect to OTA update center.(Dont give up trying)
Knock Code is using 6 touches at least instead of 4, this really bothered me.
If I see more then I'll keep you informed guys.

currently on 6.0.1. is nougat upgrade necessary?

My device: Galaxy S7 G930V on Android 6.0.1
I already know the answer most people will give here and I've considered it already ---> "if everything works as you like it, why consider upgrading?"
I was just wondering if I'm missing anything by not upgrading to nougat. Are there battery issues or any quirky bugs on nougat?
How long could I keep this phone on Marshmallow without expecting issues? I'd like to just keep it the way it is and I plan on keeping this for 2 years at lesst.

People still use phones with lower Android versions than MM
My S7 is also still on v6.01. And my S7 edge is currently on v7.0 - not by choice, though. The display on my edge went out so I had to send it to Samsung's repair facility for a warranty resolution. When I received it back, or I should say, when I received most of it back (because it wasn't really the same phone - it had the same IMEI ID but a completely different chassis), it had v7.0 on it as one would expect. So I've been familiarizing myself with that OS version and comparing it to v6.01. I didn't really want Nougat and would have held off from upgrading/installing it had there been a choice in the matter.
Some things that I dislike about Nougat are: 1) The default system font and highlight colors suck - it's just crappy looking to me; 2) The lack of defined separation in the messages on the notification shade - it's all muddled together with haphazardly-positioned, very small icons; 3) Whenever a call comes in, the selected ringtone rings the first time at very low volume and then increases - I wonder whose stupid idea that was? And I expect that I'll stumble upon many more Nougat irritants over time.
Samsung and Google seem to not only replace features that were fine with ones that are not so fine, they also attempt to force those hokey features and changes upon us with their upgrades so we have no choice but to accept them. In my opinion that obliterates certain pleasurable experiences some of us have gotten used to while using these devices. Sure, there are some cool new features and capabilities with every major release. But there are also always bugs and disappointments. Suffice it to say, I like Marshmallow much better than Nougat so far.

Is PDP back to blocking upgrades and nags on MM again? They had concealed the upgrade packages from their package list for a while so neither the nags nor the upgrade process could be avoided. I had to use note7alliance's package blocker to get rid of the nags. Can I expect full blocking from PDP again on MM?

Hmm. I'm wondering if they re-added the ability to disable the OTA updates then? In October of 2016 (or so) it was reported that Samsung made a deal with the creator of PDP to remove the OTA update packages from PDP's package list, thus rendering PDP unable to disable Marshmallow's update engine or disable the related nags. Have a look here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=69347015&postcount=25
in PDP i only could disable:

Hello Everyone.. Last week got an update for P20 Pro Indian varient. New features as said by P20 Pro in this update were HI Touch Feature, Paytm Finger Print scan support, June Security patch.....!!!
The drawbacks after update were listed below.
1. Charging Time (0 - 50%) taking 54minutes while the phone is switched off. (This is weird)
2. Scrolling (apps menu, settings, Instagram) has huge lagging.
(P20 Pro Global Issues)
Below points were raised by many USERS and they are not reaching to Huawei for corrections. Let us make publish these points together until we succeeding reaching manufacturer.
3. Captured Screenshots were unable to view full after sending to our WhatsApp contacts, To be fixed
4. Still front facing camera beauty mode not yet fix, it's over saturated
5. Slow motion video @960fps not upto the mark
6. Still no EIS for video recording at 4K
7. All the themes and wallpapers in themes app were of EMUI 8.0 only and it should be upgraded to 8.1 for compatibility to EMUI 8.1 (because wallpapers were getting zoom in while inserting to home screen)
8. Still there is no double tap on screen for screen Off/On
9. Huawei Cloud ID is not compatible in India as we can't verify our mobile due to no "India" in the list of regions.. IDIOTIC
10. Security Updates were too slow compared to other high end devices from other companies or carriers
11. Required 3 finger scroll down for screenshot instead of knuckle tap
12. Default call recording option to be added as you just given in Honor View 10.
13. EMUI to be improvised as menu icons to be customized as stock. (because many of us are not liking the big icons and of round borders)
Hope you guys supports...
THANKS IN ADVANCE

EMUI 9.1 for MediaPad M5 is coming soon

As the Titel says, EMUI 9.1 is coming for MediaPad M5 and for more 49 Devices from Huawei and its sub-brand Honor.
The confirmation is from the Chinese club.huawei (see the attachment below)
Why EMUI 9.1 is a really big deal and better than its previous firmware:
PERFORMANCE
Previously, the F2FS file system was tailored for flash memory to improve the read and write performance after long-term use. Now, with EROFS, the random read speed will be 20% faster and the system space will provide extra personal storage of up to 1000 pictures or 500 songs. Plus, the read-only memory design isolates outside interference for added security in your system files.
GPU TURBO 3.0
GPU Turbo 3.0 is a new upgrade that covers 25 of the most popular games. This new update includes reducing SoC power consumption by 10% and optimizing the underlying system performance to provide a continuous gaming experience.
HUAWEI VLOG
It has new features and effects that are perfect tools for easy editing and you can share with one-click. The Highlight videos are automatically edited with dramatic filters and give you the option to apply special speed effects and unique background music. Your cherished videos can be transformed into a personal cinematic masterpiece.
ANYTIME ASSISTANT
Whenever you need to use the virtual assistant to carry out tasks, look up facts or need an answer to a simple question, just press and hold the power button and the Google Assistant will launch in a second.
AR MEASURE
When you need a quick measurement tool for simple DIY projects, just open the AR Measure App. You can accurately measure length, total area and volume with the Huawei TOF Camera.
By utilizing the Face Recognition technology, you can now measure the height of a person with just a simple task of scanning from toe-to-head.
ONEHOP
A simple tap from your phone to the computer can send pictures, videos, and documents in seconds. You can also efficiently copy and paste between devices with Huawei Share OneHop.
And, while playing a game, just shake and touch the phone to your computer to initiate a 60-second recording of the screen1 that saves to your phone.
HUAWEI CARKEY, SECURE AND CONVENIENT
EMUI 9.1 allows you to automatically unlock your car with NFC on your phone when you forget the key and you can share this key with up to 5 people.
You can still unlock your car even if your phone is out of battery. Additionally, you can start your engine using your phone, once the phone is placed inside the secure phone box.
THE PERFECT WORKOUT PARTNER
EMUI 9.1 turns your phone into an ultimate workout partner. Use your phone to connect to a treadmill and collect information like calories burned, running speed and length of the workout.
The phone can also use an algorithm to intelligently measure the step vibrations, so you can accomplish your personal fitness goals.
SIMPLY SWITCH
With HUAWEI Phone Clone, you can simply and quickly transfer your contacts, photos, videos and more to your new phone in just a few moments.
Source: Huaweicentral
And other more detailed Improvements like: (i collected those infos from some Mate 20 pro users):
Navigation Gestures are LOT way better now than EMUI 9.0 (more fluid)
Desktop Mode got some Improvements and fixes too
Battery life is better now (the drain issues got fixed)

No, doesn't seem to be available, and it says I need to insert a SIM card in my WiFi only tablet.

Yes, correct, in order to use the beta app you must insert the sim card, but even doing this you won't be able to get the 9.1 as it is not available yet on M5
So there is no point trying this app if you don't have a 4G device?

Yes, without sim and number it is useless
I got a m5 lte 10.8 can I get the beta version?
I can't even get 9.0 for the US 8" model yet. I'm sure I'll see 9.1 after Android 10 is released.
I'm still running 8.0. Not even a sniff of 9.0 let alone 9.1! Quite disappointed if I'm honest!

Same here!
Got my tablet last week SHT- AL09 LTE
with version 8, checked for updates and went up version 8 in steps. Then was given 9 and more steps to final 9.01.190
I have the same tablet, and same version of the software.
Very nice tab, i like everything about it except for the battery life which is not too good, and also wish it supported VoLTE.
I was wondering, whether it will receive Android Q :-o
I just checked what is the firmware history of Samsung tablets on sammobile. So after 1st year of release they updated their tablet quarterly, and after 2nd year they stops updating. So it is pretty much almost the same. Except that they are much much more expensive devices. Like new tab s6. Great tablet, but quarter updates after 1st year? No thanks.
Got the EMUI 9.1 update (9.1.0.325) on my M5 8.4 WiFi last Saturday (31 August 2019) here in Romania. It's 3,51 GB in size and I got it through OTA.
