I just upgraded my Nexus 5 using the Lollipop factory image, and while I love the new OS overall, I despise the new calendar app. The removal of a monthly view that shows appointments is such a glaring flaw that I would like to remove it from my phone completely.
My question is: Is there any way to install the KitKat version of Calendar, possibly by flashing an older GApps package, without replacing the rest of the GApps? And is this possible to do so with the stock ROM? I'm not interested in throwing a custom ROM on just yet, as I'm still exploring the stock one, but not having a useful calendar is making it difficult to keep track of my day.
My goal is to: 1) replace the Lollipop calendar with the stock KitKat one while leaving the other GApps on their Lollipop versions and 2) updating the calendar app to the latest pre-redesign version via an apk sideload (I have the apk.)
Is this possible?
Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!
I doubt it will work but you can modify a gapps package by deleting everything else and test it. You'll want to nandroid backup though.
I'm not positive what the stock calendar is in kitkat but IIRC I downloaded the old version of calendar from the play store - at the time some guy (Thomas something?) was hosting it, essentially rebuilt from the old apk. Might be worth a look.
Tap at the month name (november) and get the monthly view? Just a suggestion until you find a way to replace it with kitkat's

The difference is that it the month view used to be a static view, as opposed to a fly out menu. It also used to show coloured boxes inside of the day boxes to represent appointments. Now, the month view is no longer an actual view and it doesn't show appointments at all. Clicking a day from the month menu takes you to the cluttered schedule view, which I find to be too busy and more difficult to read.
The thing that sucks is that the month view that I want is still available on tablets. They just cut it from phones.
They pushed an update today that makes the "5 day" week view more tolerable. Hopefully they bring back the full month view too.

I'll be watching to see if anyone is successful in this. I do have the monthly view on my Nexus 7, but the aspect that annoys me the most right off the bat is the new layout with the gratuitous graphics at the top of the screen which waste valuable screen real estate without any function. I have to scroll around more than before. Honestly I preferred the old email app to the new Gmail app.
If I can't revert to older apps then I may just roll back the tablet to Kitkat entirely, which seemed to be snappier on the Nexus 7 than Lollipop anyway.
I hate a new calendar on phone as well. It is absolutely useless, does not have month view and week numbers. The month view overtaken from iOS is awful and also on iOS people are complaining. I do not understand why Google copies everything.
If you find some solution please let us know here. Meanwhile I am looking for different calendar app

I use Business Calander, the free version works fine.
Maybe not ideal, but if you have Xposed you could use App Settings to set the DPI for Calendar to something close to the N7's so that it shows you the view you want. Might be pretty hard to read on the N5, but maybe it's worth a shot?

Im using this one, rebuild from old aosp...

I don't want to install a 3rd part calandar to be able to view weeknumber, unless I can uninstall this crap.
Someone said that if I do uninstall it, it would brake sync.
Not sure if that is true though.
not happy with lollipop calendar
I use calendar intensively on my nexus 5, not amused with all missing functionality on lollipop calendar, especially all overviews, not a week view in portrait?? Not an option to zoom and see full day in one screen?? help i need my handy calendar!
I have tried several calendars on Google Play but at the end I have switched to the one linked 2 posts above. The problem with most of calendar applications is that they are either awful (e.g. Business calendar) or useless. The old AOSP calendar is a good compromise in my opinion.
so glad its not just me
I also want to uninstall lollipop because of this. Glad I found this post. Why are they messing with the calendar??
As all of you, i hate the lollipop calendar, BUT i did find a somewhat good alternative. Its called Today Calendar and it comes with a 30 day trial.....but who said you cant get the *cough* apk* *cough*, i mean pay for the app later. Seems to be doing an ok job for now, and weeks are somewhat back to normal.
I would still prefer google to un**** up its calendar though.

Not 100% sure, but this loads faster on mine. I "overclock" to slow to save battery haha but I didn't notice a difference running hr3. I've been going back and forth trying to get what I need. The blue lock screen overlay is actually the MAIN reason I am doing this. Stupid, huh?
Key factor may be that I DID update the radio.
I did leave out superuser, spare parts, and anything else that can be installed normally for those who don't want them. I change my mind about apps hourly so I try to keep default installs as clean as possible to avoid troublesome adb commands.
This sounds very intersting. Does it include the Exchange integration from the 5.0H build?
This is EXACTLY what I've been waiting for... soon as you get locked down which apps ur keeping, I'm on it.
Sounds great twisted. I'm in love with 5.0.2H because of the mail app and pdfviewer. Yesterday I stepped up to ADP1.5 and although it was fast, it's missing these key components that I use daily. I look forward to you app log.
This is really interesting. I can't wait to hear(read) thee results. Lol

It currently has the 5.0.2 exchange. I saw no point in taking it out. I don't use it but I know it's far easier to remove system components like that than it is to implement them once an update is installed.
So far I see no real difference in Gmail. Mail seems to crash for me in 1.5 with something about a Plus account - looks like 5.0.2 mail stays. Maps and Market will be updated because I see no reason not to.
Any thoughts on Gmail? Anyone see any updates worth having?
Can you put the H build camera in the build instead of the 1.5.3 camera? The HTC camera was far superior than the google implementation. That's all I can think of so far

H camera crashed when using the camera button. The one I'm using is the one from the "add features to 5.0.xH" thread. Seems to be the most stable and all you really lose is zoom. Forgot to take out additional HTCAlbum, though. Planning to fix this and some other updates when I get back to my hideout. If I can remap the H camera button I will get that in there, but that takes a little longer than just swapping apks.

Sorry apps2sd is still coming. Having technical difficulties with getting both my G1 and computer to recognize the same partitions. The new version has the Andreoid keyboard included along with updates to youtube, maps, and market. The slider problem still exists for a day or two. Wanted to get the new market in place because I isolated the market download issue to have been cooperation between market and launcher. Now that the new market accepts downloads I can fix launcher. Expect updates tomorrow. I have a 4-hour block of boredom. Hehe.

Still isolating libs and such. JesusFreke redid the kernel so the program alone was not enough. Didn't think that far ahead when I was throwing parts together. I'm learning as I tear apart the 7 builds on my desktop. I just have to teach myself as I go.
Open source never meant well-documented.
Plans are in the works to go backwards from the HTC build, but like most others I need something to default back to when I'm not testing. Building this version was first priority with that being my next step. That is when the speed increases will occur with some new features. Can't say I'm not a dreamer, right?

Beautiful!
I love your work!
I just wanted to note down a few things that I wished I knew before flashing my Infuse.
Substituting your official Samsung build for unofficial ROMs like CyanogenMOD (CM) is a double edged sword. On one hand you get to play with the latest and greatest stuff...but on the other hand you have no guarantees of any kind. I'm not sure but you may be in violation of your warranty. In other words you're on your own.
Now there are forums like the Official CM forums and XDA where you'll get help if you run into issues but the bottom line is: You flashed your phone on your own responsibility. Nobody is liable for that. Nobody has any duty to resolve your issues. You may get a response, you may not. Sometimes the level of solution varies with the technical level of the person trying to help you. I may not be able to fix your problem... My suggestion may even f*** it up worse.
In my opinion, if your phone has critical data that you depend on (contacts, appointments etc)... it would be wise to stick with the OS build your phone came with. It may be old...but it has been tested by qualified engineers. All aspects of the phone are functional. And if you run into an issue, you can always pick up the phone and call somebody. When you flash your phone, there's always a minimal chance that you may lose your data (I'm not saying it always happens...but it can). You also lose the privilege of support provided by your carrier or anybody else.
Secondly, your Infuse ships with OS that has been modified by Samsung to provide you with a better experience. These are things which I'll list down at the end, that you'd lose with a custom build like CM. So you'd gain some features by trying the latest version of android but you'd lose a few features too! Because they were provided by Samsung, not by Google.
Things like:
1. No quick view in Calendar. You have to go to Agenda view in options where all entries of all dates will be visible. You cannot see daily appointments on the default Month view. Also there's no option for persistent alarm for your appointments. In the stock build my alarm for tasks used to ring for 15 minutes...now there just one ring and silence. Its a little thing but I sometimes miss the alarm and the whole purpose is lost.
2. Contacts applications is modified by Samsung. Joining contacts from different sources (facebook, twitter) into a single contact is much easier. You can do that in CM too but I had to search the Internet for that option.
You'd also get alphabets on the side of the screen while scrolling contacts. Tap an alphabet and you quickly jump to contacts that start with that alphabet. That's missing in CM too.
3. There are some widgets provided by Samsung like Running Applications widget which I absolutely loved. It would show number of running applications and a quick option to close them all. CM has a task manager and the market has applications that can replicate that functionality but I haven't found one as nifty as that little widget. Then theres a Dual Clock widget, which was important to me as I have contacts in different timezones. I could easily check their time at a glance. In short there were some gems that I miss... and I can't get with CM.
4. Messaging app was modified by Samsung to allow quick addition of a particular group (e.g. all the contacts in Family group) to senders list.
5. There was a very nice Memo app that you could store notes in for offline use. There are tons of alternatives in the market like Springpad, Evernote etc but I kinda liked that app. It had a very nice yellow legal pad template. Its a minor gripe but hey!
6. There's no swype in CM7! Samsung preloads your Infuse with swype. If you've not used swype, its an awesome way to input text. I found that I could sign up for Swype beta and use it in CM but then again....beta is a beta. It has problems.
7. Bluetooth (currently) doesn't completely work in CM7. You can transfer data but audio pairing is an issue. It doesn't bother me but it may be something you use.
8. Wifi is fine but try using Mobile Data on CM. I still haven't figured how to set up my mobilink GPRS internet. I tried setting up the APN with the same settings as on the stock build but it doesn't seem to work. It worked fine under Samsung. But YMMV. It may be particular to my network and CM build.
9. There's no voice search in google search widget. I had to install an apk from net to get it working. It wouldn't even show up in the market.
10. Also you'll lose all your settings in applications. You'll get your apps back from the market (Even the Paid ones...you won't have to re-purchase) but you'll have to set them up all again just the way you want. That may not be such a big deal for some but it may irk you. Also don't use Titanium Backup to restore you app data. I tried that and every f***ing app would crash every ten minutes. I had to reflash again.
11. Your partitions will show up different in the file manager. For example your internal sd card (as it showed up in stock build) will be mounted under 'emmc'. I had to look online for that. Now that may not be a major thing but it screwed up a lot of app data links.
12. Lastly CM isn't even official for Infuse yet. All you have are volunteers packaging builds for Infuse. Hats off to their hard work! But as a user.... you are the tester! So if you're comfortable running untested beta grade software only then go for CM7 on your infuse. Otherwise stick with the stock build.
I'll keep adding other differences as I remember and discover them. You guys can pitch in too.
This post is by no means an attempt to belittle CM. Its an excellent ROM. It has its own advantages which you can read up on its website. I'm just highlighting some tradeoffs so that new users like myself exactly know what they're giving up.
So if you still want to go ahead and flash your Infuse, full power to you. At least you'll be making an informed decision. Just please backup your critical data. Sync your contacts with Google. Back up your music and videos, messages, downloads etc.
Go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1400375 for the latest CM7 build for Infuse.
Enjoy the CM awesomeness! Best of Luck

Well said bro...just came off a semi-hard brick and I'm back in business. And you can believe I'll keep flashing. CM7 isn't the only game in town. We've had a tidal wave of ports and even a couple infuse-based roms (thanks D) that can cater to anyones needs. All you gotta do is read and enjoy all the hard work these devs put in.
sbjaved - Thanks so much for this! i just flashed CM10, and am discovering what i've lost (From the latest samsung gingerbread leak) - and what i've gained! two days in and it's so worth it - The only thing i miss is MHL and quite frankly, it's a small loss.
-Woody
Overall, really loving this phone, but there are some things that continually frustrate me:
-no 'favorites' tab on the phone app. Favorites exist under groups, but for some reason you can't put the favorites down on the menu to make quick calls easier.
-uploading photos to facebook using 'facebook for htc sense' often freeze part-way through, even with good wifi connection.
-Often times when I delete emails on the gmail app they still appear in my inbox when I view gmail on my computer. Also can't seem to make gmail automatically update upon opening.
-CALENDAR NOTIFICATIONS: Even when I turned off the facebook calendar sync so I wouldn't get 20 birthday reminders every day, the notifications still won't go away. Anything I put in the calendar pops up on the lock screen every single time, even the day before sometimes. Should I use a different calendar app? I like using the 'productivity' lock screen, but this "feature" is killing me.
I have been wary of rooting since I wanted to maintain my warranty, but some of these issues - plus the terrible multitasking - are really tempting me to do it.
Does anyone know of any fixes for these problems?
Short of dumping the One X and buying a new phone, waiting for official releases is the only way.
Otherwise, root and bootloader unlock is the way to go. Did so to mine and don't regret it. I have plenty of faith in the development of custom ROMs for this device.
if you don't mind, what did you do with root and bootloader unlock? This is my first android and I'm not sure what I could accomplish with that.
I flashed KingCobra on it.
I tried Cyanogenmod 9 for the AOSP experience but there are some bugs I can't seem to get rid of in order to use it, so I'm sticking with KC.
Overall, you get rid of bloatware, and can have more of the "stock android" experience. As of right now, at least... when AOKP, CM9 and other AOSP-based roms are out in full gear, you'll have more choice as to what you prefer. I'm really hoping that time will be soon.

Rooting your phone along with unlocking the boot loader allows you to run custom roms. Most roms out now get rid of most of the issues you are running in to. That's the simplified version...look around on the developer section and you will find the information on how to go about rooting and unlocking. Good luck...awesome phone!

Now that we've got some Sunshine in our lives, sadly (not really) it is time for Turboid to be retired. We don't need it anymore.
If you would like to set up a rom on your unlocked Turbo that has all the features that Turboid had, upgrade to SU4TL-44, unlock with Sunshine, install TWRP, and flash following:
1. SuperSU: https://download.chainfire.eu/696/SuperSU/
2. Busybox: http://forum.xda-developers.com/and...-busybox-v1-23-2-stericson-flashable-t3114476 (NOTE: This is not the latest version, but you need to have busybox flashed before you flash Pon-3. Once you boot the phone, use Busybox Installer by Stericson in the Play Store to update to the latest version).
3. Pon-3: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2530976
4. Xposed Framework: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3034811 (Make sure to flash the correct SDK for the rom that you're running. SDK21 = Lollipop 5.0.X. SDK22 = Lollipop 5.1.X. SDK23 = Marshmallow 6.X. Also, always use the ARM version.)
5. iOS 9.1 emojis: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/themes-apps/mod-ios-emojis-android-t3231571
Once all that's flashed, let the phone boot up. Wiping cache and dalvik cache is always a safe bet after flashing anything. Once it boots, do the following:
1. Go back to the Xposed page and install the Installer apk.
2. Get Adaway here: https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdid=org.adaway (Install using the default settings. No need for redirecting the hosts file anymore.)
3. Better Battery Stats is here if you like: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
4. The Turbo 2 command center is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/droid-turbo/themes-apps/droid-turbo-2-command-center-root-t3244386
I think that about covers it. Go forth and flash! Thanks for letting me play dev for a few months.

Unlike the other images floating around, I started off with the stock SU3TL-39 system image from the full Verizon firmware. To the best of my knowledge, the other roms are based off of firstEncounter's 5.1 image, which was obtained in a different way. Does this matter? Probably not, but at the time I thought that this might fix the HDR bug, and it did, but probably not for that reason.

There's a SU3TL-39 full firmware? My images were based on the SU3TL-38 and updated to SU3TL-39 by emulating the OTA script.
(Also, HDR works on my images, for whatever it's worth)
Regardless, always glad to see more development for the Turbo!

Yep! You can get it on the motofirmwares website. Yeah, someone confirmed for me the other day that it works on your image now. In the past, I had flashed it and it didn't, but you've updated it since I did that. So I guess HDR working isn't really a feature anymore. I'm working on some gimmicks to make my image a little more relevant though.

I'll look into the Google search bar thing. I've never seen my screen without it, so I didn't know that the space wasn't automatically used. As for the clear all recents thing, that is one of the many features of Gravity Box for LP (a well known xposed module). Try that. I'll see if there's a way to bake it into the rom too.
I posted on the other thread about this, but I will say again here, this img is great. Has similar battery life to the other Lp img I was running, despite not having tweaks. I unplugged at 530 am. been kicking butt all day long. I streamed via Bluetooth for 2 hours driving at work, and noticed better 4g signals than I have had yet at my work using this img. There were zero glitches or bugs that I noticed. I am still at 8% battery, atm. I had a crapload of SOT. Look for yourself. amazing img. thank you!!!
p.s. I just noticed I have had max brightness all day as well. lol.
I just realized you removed the corporate email app (after a day or use, haha). Is there a way that I can side load it or something? I love the debloated ROM, but that is one app I need for my college email account.
Also, is it ok to update Moto Actions? You can understand why I ask that!
^^^ I used the Outlook app as a replacement today. Gmail also will allow you to add other email accounts now, so that may be why. As far as requests, my only one may not be reasonable or practical, but it would be a deodexed version of this. Again, awesome work.
Yeah, specifically, I need the exchange piece. I tried the outlook app, but it doesn't handle certain things as well. I also tried installing Google Email 6.5 as well as the Exchange Services apk, but I know I have to be missing something... Actually, probably lots of things! haha.
Also, adaway doesn't work with this build, is that right?

Awesome! I'm glad it works well for someone other than me.

Well if you need the stock email app, I can send an image your way that has it once I find some time. I have no idea what deodexing roms entails, but that sounds like a fun project too. I'll look into it.

Correct. I didn't put adaway in there. I probably could though. Stay tuned.

Haha yes, updating seems to not cause the apocalypse to occur this time around. I'll make an image that has the stock email app intact, or I'll try sideloading it and post the apk if it works.

I added the stock email app back. Side loading didn't work. Will be up in a few hours.
thats cool. honestly, deodexing is removing all of the .odex files from the rom. (located at /system/app , system/priv-app, etc.
the reason i ask about it is it would make theming easier. mind you, without system r/w access, it is a moot point. it may make the theme options available work better though. (LPthemer module comes to mind). CF has said he will not be doing that at any point, so it may be a PITA.

Oh. That's it? I can do that in 2 seconds. I thought there was something more to it.
1.02 looks like the perfect ROM for me! Thanks @TheSt33v
I got the Mate 20 X from Italy, delivered two weeks after order on November 12 for € 829, VAT and 2-years warranty included. It is a nice silver device 6/128 (don’t need more memory). My first hands-on impression? I was shocked.
I had pure Chinese phones before (Huawei and Lenovo) and I know how to deal with them. That wasn’t what upset me. And it wasn’t EMUI either, I like some of its functionality and I know how to customize it.
But my previous phone was Mate 10 pro (international, not Chinese), which really works well and comparison with a newcomer is what really shocked me. The EVR_AL00 came slow and clumsy with those big fat letters and ugly ios-like icons on the screen. I tried to improve the look with increasing the smallest width in the developer options, but original resolution came back with every reset.
So what I did first, is factory reset (I usually perform it on every new phone). I lost Google Play but I didn’t care, I intended to install and adjust Google apps anyway.
And then I started to customize the phone. Basically, it means “dechinezed” and “deiosinezed” it and make it usable for my purposes as the daily driver. Eventually, I succeeded and like before I don’t regret that I bought the Chinese phone as I never regretted before. I believe that my customization demands would request almost the same amount of work and effort with the “international” version.
And with “dechinezed” I don’t mean to be impolite, actually, I like some of the features of China phones, some of them after years comes to western phones as well (night sight, close all apps etc). I just prefer the more Android look of the phone (even more than currently, Google delivers).
The actual status of my phone is as follows:
In the beginning, when I started phone manager, the performance never exceeded 69%. It seems that later it adapted and healed itself (maybe with help of AI) and now performance is usually over 90, close to 100% and the phone suddenly becomes snappy and smooth, slightly better than Mate 10 pro. As expected, the battery life is due to its capacity and with my way of use it could easily survive two days. I don’t have exact data on SOT and other parameters of the battery performance yet. By adjusting the text and display size (both too small) under settings/display the phone gets a nicer look and more usable size of applications.
I had decided to keep EMUI launcher before I learned that the phone has a hard time with other launchers. I bought Nova Prime once, I consider it a great launcher, maybe the best, but even on my previous phone I used EMUI. The reason is in its features that I don’t want to sacrifice: dedicated Accuweather, swype gestures (now with 9), dark mode. I was never a fan of ios-like white themes, I always considered that Android’s color is black. Besides, what even Google admits now (and started to return black mode into its apps accordingly), the white mode consumes a lot more energy (especially with AMOLED). What is yet to admit is that it burns your eyes.
So, what I have now, is a fully customized EVR_AL00 that perfectly suits my needs. That means that it looks like Android, works like Android and behaves like Android. I replaced most Chinese apps with Google’s ones, installed additional that I use and tune the system. With tuning the system I mean screen adjustment and customization. Under Settings/Display/text and display size, I changed both values to small and thus converted ugly appearance of the display into something that suits size and purpose of the phone. I replaced IOS icons with the Android ones. Adjusted notifications and permissions for each application.
First I was thinking about keeping some Chinese apps that I considered useful, like Sky Mobile and a few others. But trying them I found out that all of them are more or less connected either with Chinese environment or payment system and therefore eventually I removed them all. After I had to perform the factory reset I was only got more careful with apps that I disabled. And according to my orientation, I kept Email, at least until Google implements dark color in Gmail. And kept useful utilities: (Manager, Gallery, Remote…).
Otherwise, I use Google Phone (the amazing last beta from: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-google-phone-v14-0-175904292-bubble-t3708218, thank you Martin), Messages, Translate (removed nonfunctional MS Translate), Auto, Duo, Voice, Photos, Trips, Pay, Assistant, Lens, Google, Chrome, and of course all Google system apps. I also use third-party apps like VLC, Xiaomi calculator and YouTube vanced. Pretty much everything works as expected, including notifications to the extent that suits my way of use. After I erased Hivoice, Assistant works together with the hot word, if the screen is turned on (never wished to use it from turned off screen). The red mic on notification bar of the attached picture shows that assistant is active.
All banks application work. Google Play is not working at the moment but I expect that it will eventually. Currently, failure is the result of poor synchronization between Chinese EMUI and Google Android. No point to call the bank, it is the last one to solve the problem. The problem will be solved with the new EMUI or Play Services, because there is no material obstacle for G Play (SafetyNet passed and bank card is recognized and could be used online). I have another identical payment system installed (Inteso SP) and it works flawlessly.
CUSTOMIZATION
In order to adapt the phone to my needs, I had to deal with existing Chinese application first. I had to either: 1) remove them, 2) hide them, or 3) disable (erase) them.
Removing apps
Removing apps was easy. Just uninstall Chinese in Settings/Apps. As I said, I did it thoroughly and indiscriminately.
Hiding apps
My overall objective is to have only one home screen page. I’m fed up with slippery pages interfering with gestures. And besides, I decided to use gestures (swype) as system navigation and therefore swyping between homepages could be annoying even more.
In order to have only one home page, I have to use folders and hide auxiliary functional apps (like download, OTA, backup, clock..etc).
Surprisingly I found that Tweaker for Huawei works pretty well with EMUI9, although it is an old application: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teammt.gmanrainy.emuitweaker&hl=en. One of its functions is triggering the abandoned EMUI gesture that enables hiding any application and thus removing it from the home screen without affecting its functionality.
Disabling (erasing) apps
To “remove” any nonremovable application without root you need a computer with the adb command-line tool. In fact, this method never removes any application, rather disables and hides it for the current user. So it doesn’t affect OTA and it doesn’t revert after reset either. It does come back after factory reset though.
The method of erasing an app works through adb (so adb must be installed on the computer – either Windows or Linux) and it requests the following syntax in command line:
1. adb devices (and after that setting permission on the phone)
2. adb shell
3. pm unistall -k --user 0 <package name>
where <package name> is not the name of the application as it shows but the name of the installed package, which must be discovered and one of the apps which could do that effectively could be found here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.itto.packageinspector&hl=en.
(for example: pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.huawei.wallet)
A basic idea what to disable could be found here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-10/how-to/guide-to-remove-apps-root-t3828324. Of course, what to disable always depends on personal preferences and therefore this list should be taken with a grain of salt.
So, after arranging applications there comes the final stage of making the phone Android again. EMUI makeover. For that, we need this EMUI editor: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mixapplications.themeeditor.
But there is a bad news. It doesn’t work with EMUI 9 (yet). What now? There are two possibilities: either finding a good theme and simply installing it (there are plenty of them, only I didn’t test if they are working with EMUI 9 (some of the android likes are to be found in the Playstore under Hamzio7 or here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-10/themes/pure-black-theme-emui-8-t3719904.
The other possibility is to find a phone with EMUI 8 and compile the hwt file there and transfer it to Mate 20 X. That is what I did. The system will warn you that it is an old version of the theme and it might not work well but skip that. It works just fine.
Don’t judge the solution by my design. I’m a modest guy, more practically oriented. You may have almost any design that you wish.
And of course, if you decide to experiment with this stuff yourself, you should be aware that you are the only one taking the risk. I honestly believe that you can’t, if you are not extremely innovative, irretrievably destroy anything, but even factory reset might be sometimes really annoying.
Good luck with your brand new Chinese Mate 20 X.
Great post Just a couple of questions:
1) Are your notifications working perfectly? By that, I mean without delay under both wi-fi and mobile networks, with screen on and screen off? If so, what did you do to achieve this?
2) Do you mind sharing where did you buy the device from?
Nice job! Looking even more forward to the arrival of my Mate 20 X!
@piskr
Would you mind give some steps to get google phone and Messages to work properly. When phone call comes in, my phone call screen does not come on. Messages only works sometime and sometime message does not send. Thanks.

1) Yes, notifications work flawlessly in my extent of use, both with the screen on and off. I don't use exotics like telegram or whatsapp though. It's a matter of permissions and notification settings. Be aware that each notification had to be set separately and checked under application and under notification sector under settings. And also have in mind that if you install the third party phone, it is just addition of original phone (under app/system processes), and the later must remain active and has its own permissions and notification as well. Phone app has different system structure than SMS. You can simply erase Huawei messaging and replace it with the Google one (haven't tried others).
2) You can find here both color and memory variants: https://www.ilmultistoredelzazza.eu...l_Sim_EMUI_9_Android_9/p1748191_19236868.aspx

You should really carefully check and set both permissions and notifications for each application. And remember that you mustn't neglect the system phone app.

That's right, the last one is Google phone from the link I published and it works just fine (I really recommend it, it has so many opportunities). But you have managed to get notifications neither on the home screen nor on the lock screen? Neither for messages nor for the phone? If I were you I would go from setting to setting for this two apps and inspect every item very carefully. It is possible in this early stage of EMUI9 that it has some weird glitches occurring randomly on some phones but it is not very likely. A small overlooked detail in settings could mean everything.
Otherwise, I don't regret that I bought the Chinese version. Now I've got everything that I would have with the international variant. Only I don't have working Google pay yet, but so far I haven't seen a clear statement that it really works on international Mate 20x either. To work means to be able pay with the phone not only loading a card, that's what I did too. Otherwise, I got a good price (€660 before VAT), integrated call recorder and rooting opportunity.
And regarding crap, international one has it too. I've got international Mate 10 pro and I know it. Besides Chinese one additional western, baked in (MS, Facebook, Google's and third party's).

The phone will ring on the google phone app but the screen does not come. I will play with the settings and figure it out. Thanks for all the help.

I mistakenly removed one item (com.huawei.android.hwouc) I shouldn't have and I amnot getting OTAs (which I also turn off automatic ones in dev options, but if I want one, I lost it them).

See beginning of the thread and other threads on ADB. Same list, mine in txt or zip, same file, not necessarily good for everyone.

I got it working. I am using the stable v.25 version. What I did was after selected the google phone as default dialing app, I go back to default apps and click the stock phone and then click the google phone again. I did this by chance and luck. Hope this will solve your issue. The stock phone app is horrible. Make sure you use the stable version. Good luck.
