Active noise cancellation performance - HTC U11 Questions & Answers

On YT I've saw that U11 has active noise cancellation. Can somebody tell me how well it works? I'm thinking about changing my current phone to U11 and it's one of points which I want to check before buying.

It is decent with included headphones.
There are quite a few threads and opinionated people around here so you can check them, but for me it's the best phone soundwise you can currently buy.

Don't expect miracles

I think it works quite well. Only works while playing music (unless someone develops around that).

Basically the U sonic earbuds would tune themselves as per your ear canal on the first plug-in (just takes a couple of seconds). The noise cancellation is effective, not as efficient as Bose headphones in terms of noise cancellation.. But yes sound is the best on any phone available today (people do like sony phones audio as well )

The sound on the U11 isn't the best on a phone today lol

How it looks in comparison to LG G6 with DAC? I'm deciding which one to buy. Sound quality is one of major points to take decision.

Dr. Dre Beats Tour Headphones

Are these headphones worth £20+
Need opinions before purchasing for my DHD

Mod Edit: Moved per OP request.
£20 seems way too cheap for those headphones.
Those headphones retail for over $100 US dollars, there must be something wrong with this, if you decide to jump on it let us know how it went.
Decided to buy, hopefully i'll get my money back if theres something wrong. I bought with paypal so it should be ok.
Paypal will give the money back I have also email the seller to confirm if they are not fake and if they are in top condition.

Just a sidenote. I've noticed that the bass with SRS Wow or Dolby enabled is really loud when one uses a headphone with a strong bass output. I've a Shure SE500 (with a bass monitor) that I can't use with this setting. Because dr. Dre headphones are famous because of their powerful bass characterics I guess this will also be the case with these headphones.
(But then again, the whole community (at least 1 ) is still looking for a possibility to set the bass level for SRS and Dolby on the DHD. Now this isn't possible, unfortunately)
why dont you grab a nice almost neutral IEM, like jays D or Q-jays, apparantly the A's are not too bad either
i have the Q's very nice they respond very well to EQ changes for example flat EQ sounds balanced, bassey EQ sounds bassey ect... they sound very nice on my S9 and they were pretty good on my legend to. no idea about the DHD but id imagine they would still sound great.

The price is cheap, but not excessively so.
These are the first generation buds which you can pick up for about £35 nowadays. The current ones retail for about £110-120. I'm sure they're still good headphones though.
Just be sure they're not counterfeit. I read some silly stat somewhere that 80% of headphones and bluetooth headsets sold on ebay are counterfeit.

got my earphones today. looked a bit iffy with the seal broken on the box, but all in box, and works amazingly with SRS surround sound. I would recommend them apart from them having to be pushed a bit into the ear not to stick out and fall out...

LG Optimus 3D Audio Quality

Hi,
How good is the SQ of O3D? Is it comparable to iP4/SGS 2?
Thanks!
Sent from my GT-I5801 using XDA App
The speakers aren't great and I think it's pretty bad at recording sound, especially in a loud environment.
Works well with headphones though
Hmmm....So did you tried any 3rd party headphones or only using those that came bundled with O3D?

I'm using high-end headphones, but the ones that came with it looked OK. I never expect much from what constructors put in the box...

Wow you guys got headphones with your O3D. We didn't get that with the Thrill!
I havent even opened the headphones that came with it. Ive used it with several different sets of cans though, including sony vf-150s and beyerdynamic dt-770ms and it sounds pretty great on all of them.
One flaw ive noticed with audio is that the phone creates a loud pop when the audio driver kicks in at the beginning of playback. Quite annoying if you ever plug it into a PA system.

Headphones are really good, speakers are loud and good. But, recording voice quality is horrible when there is a noise or lound voices, so, that is just what annoyes me.
The sound coming out of the speakers is tiny and according to this review, the quality of the sound coming out of the headphones is one of the worst they've heard :S. They rate it as excellent if you plug it in your car or PA system...
LG earphones+poweramp with dance preset and bass and treble knob turned to middle= best earphones compared to every other earphone that comes bundled with any other mobile!

What they are saying is that the stereo crosstalk, when using headphones, dips to one of the lowest levels they have seen. This is not the same as saying that "the quality of sound coming out of the headphones is one of the worst they have heard."
In addition, if you look at the comparison chart, the only phone in that list that is significantly better then all the rest is the HTC Sensation.
speaker quality compared to iphone4: bad. very bad.
speaker loudness compared to iphone4: much much better.
i prefer the optimus 3d. i have x-mini mobile speakers if i really want to listen to my phone.

No offence, but I think that you don't know what stereo crosstalk is. -44.1 is pretty bad. Vinyls give you around -30.
Look at the numbers for Apple which is still a reference when it comes to pocketable audio players.

I am not debating that. I just felt the need to point out the difference in verbage, which insinuated something different than what was actually stated. I understand the value of the crosstalk measurement, but it's not the only measurement involved. Sorry if you felt offended.
Additionally, look at the other devices compared and you will see that it wasn't the worst of the pack. It looks almost par with the GSII in most regards. Of course, I don't think that is such a great thing either.
I also noticed that in the chart for Apple, that the original Galaxy S is worse than the Optimus 3D as well.
I agree with you and I apologize . My original statement was misleading. The crosstalk is one of the worst, but overall the quality of the sound coming out of the O3D was rated as being average.

(Headphones) Good finding that I want to share with you...

Yep, as the title says, I found a good pair of headphones with mic that you may like, it's nothing new, but nothing that I could find in the Nexus 4 forum either...
Here it is! "Sony MDR-ZX300AP/L" made specifically for Android phones (according to Sony's website).
Weird side note: they are OMTP (according to Sony chat representative), and AFAIK, Nexus 4 is CTIA, so I decided to grab a CTIA<-->OMTP adapter, which only inverts the 2 cables that differ from CTIA/OMTP, funny thing is, when I connected the headphones with the adapter, they worked perfectly (also tested the mic), then I decided to give it a try without the adapter... guess what... they worked too (plus mic)! WTF they were not supposed to work....
Anyway, I decided to share this finding to you, I have to specify that mine is the latest revision (AFAIK) from Nexus 4 *White*, so I'm totally clueless if they changed something in the hardware to make them compatible with both CTIA/OMTP...
I also paired the headphones with a computer adapter, so now I have a computer headset (mic works too!) "StarTech MUYHSFMM 3.5mm 4 Pin to 2x3 Pin 3.5mm Headset Splitter Adapter - F/M"
Final notes, mic quality is 4 out of 5, not the best, not bad, there are other color(s) available, definitely sturdy and yet comfortable pair of headphones, build quality totally explains the price (it can be either good or bad, depends of your point of view, very good IMHO)...

You can consider yourself an audiophile if you start spending more than $100dlls on headsets/accessories to listen music... I'm not saying it is negative!, just pointing out that there is certain price threshold where people with an educated ear need something better than the average $30-$50 headsets... (audiophiles )
For mere mortals such as me... this headset is very good, I'm still able to distinguish a weak spot in a range of frequency but I'm ok with that, bass is also a little weak for my taste but there is no microphone version of the XtraBass variant of this headset...
Talking about headsets, it surprised me to find out how other people prefer/user other more expensive headphones in their cellphones, poor DAC cannot even power such a high impedance! they need a FiOS amplifier to power them up... gosh... talking about obsessions...
There is a good reason of why many headsets/headphones have weak spots or poor bass, and this is obviously because they were designed to power up from weak sources (such as your cellphone's DAC), of course newer cellphones have improved a lot in this department allowing users to throw higher balls on the park (S4 by example)...

LOL, I am no audiophile. I just like my music to be clear and hit bass nice and crisp. But I do have the V-Moda M100's in my collection lol. I use that on my N4 mostly, but I use the M100s on my N7 and laptop at home.
When I want in ears, my go to ones used to be the Sol Republic Amps HD. Great headphones for the price and are tangle free. I just got some Munitio NINES 9mm in ears and the bass just blows me away. I am not a bass heavy listener, so I had to lower the volume on a lot of my devices lol. I gave my wife the Shure SE215 clears for a flight recently and she thanked me because she needed them when on a flight where there were a bunch of minors on a flight without parents and of course were loud. The lady next to her asked if how she could deal with all the noise and my wife said...what noise? I had my headsets in. They were clear so you can hardly see them if you aren't looking so that is a plus lol.
Bottom line, there are lower end headphones like the google ones, or sony ones that do the deed well on its own. I am not saying they shouldn't be used, far be it. I say try it and if you are happy, then that's all that matters right?

yes they're stereo. theres 2 speakers on the bottom of the phone.

Pretty sure its mono speaker. One of the grills is for the mic, the other for the speaker.
Oh wow. Just considering the sizes and the looks of the two, they appeared to both be speakers. Well thats kind of disappointing and misleading when it comes to the looks.
Even if its not as loud, kernel hacks can boost it right on up.
G2 speakers are a bit weak out the box ( but absolutely better then the n4) but with the volume mod, it really starts to hold it own most phones besides the HTC One

For anyone using a Nexus 4 right now, at least it's moved to the bottom unlike on the back for Nexus 4. So at least my alarm won't be buffed in the morning. I missed plenty class thanks to this design on N4!! Well you can tell by now that i'm a heavy sleeper

Agree with all. better than N4, with volume mod close to on par with most aside from One. Quality leaves something to be desired but it works / I don't miss calls/texts but I wouldn't listen to music on the speaker :silly:
In some countries (hint hint, ~China), playing music using speaker is deemed to be, uh.. low-life idiot lol? I suppose it's because that there are so many people in China with different tastes. So, imagine, there will be MUCH more Justin Bieber lovers and also haters. It often becomes a chaos when JB lovers play JB music in speakerphone and get cursed like no tomorrow by JB haters. Fair logic, no? :silly:

What volume mod is that? I got my Nexus 5 today after having a Nexus 4 and the sound seems very slightly "muffly" - slightly and definitely not as loud. Otherwise the screen is great (and I'm insanely picky about screen uniformity etc), speed is amazing and Kitkat is a very sweet upgrade.

It sounds much more tinny / less bass-y then the GS4 to me:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-E40UZFDZhE
I've tried to ignore the volume difference and listen to the actual quality difference, but the speaker doesn't sound that good on the N5.
Bit of a shame for viewing youtube / the occasional TV episode / listening to some music whilst in private and not wanting to hook it up to the stereo system.

They wireless have a new model number but look exactly the same as the other ones. Maybe an updated charging port warp charge bigger battery or my hope BT 5.0 aptx hd. With even better sound stage.. we will soon see.

I got the newer model delivered yesterday (BT32B), and can see its still aptx not aptx HD. Do you know how I would check if they are BT 5.0?
Awaiting for the BEAST
That sounds amazing! With the beast I get the bass beast. Always have been a fan of OP ! Kudos to the team to live up to the expectation! Cool man ! Awaiting the next beast - OP6T! Will definitely upgrade ! :
Got my bullets wireless (newer model) 2 hour ago and I've been screwing with them since then. They're really nicely made, comfortable and the included "adaptors" (wings and ear tips) could probably have a slightly bigger option, or the biggest option could've been a bit bigger. But this is just nitpicking though. But we have to admit that the design is inspired by the Beats X which is not necessarily a bad thing because those are pretty great. They're a bit better in terms of quality, but the bullets wireless are really close to them and they're considerably cheaper . Oh, not to forget, the cable is a bit longer that I wanted, but it's ok.
Sound: they sound really good out of the box but I've never been satisfied with any headphones/earbuds I tried. For me the conclusion is drawn AFTER using them tweaked with Viper4Android. There's no listening to anything without V4A, which allows for a series of tweaks that makes the audio experience for MY ears and perception of what a great sound is.
Anyway, without V4A they sound pretty good, not exceptional but pretty good nonetheless. They're really loud and it's really nice that there is no distortion of sound at maximum volume.
With V4A and my favourite profile (tweaked a bit), they're pretty great. They can be even louder and the sound still doesn't distort, but that's just a bit of an extreme scenario to see what they're capable of because it's an unrealistic and no one would blow up their eardrums listening to music at that volume.
Mic quality, better that almost every other pair I tried. I dare to say it's better than my OP6's mic, but I need to test it in more environments than at home (indoors, outdoors).
The pause function when you stuck one earbud to the other is really useful.
And this last thing might seem a silly one, but ... Usb-C, baby. Finally I'm done with having to use 2 cables to charge my s#!t.
Anyway, I haven't spent but around 2 hours wit them, but it's enough to recommend them to anyone who wants something great for a relatively decent price. They're worth more , IMO, but I digress.
If you were thinking of getting a pair, go for it. You will NOT be dissapointed one bit.

It says 32b on mine. If it makes you feel any better, one of my friends has the 31b model (previous model) and there's no difference in sound at all, or build quality, etc. The 31b model even has clickier buttons than my pair so I'm pretty sure OnePlus hasn't improved anything in the last model. 32b is probably meant as a model name change because of the red wired pair of wireless bullets they released along the OP6T. So in terms of quality (etc) they're most probably the same. So don't worry, your model is identical to mine despite of what the model name says.

V4a improves everything. If you want overwhelming base, V4a will give you that, and as strong as the base you'll tweak to be, it won't distort, which shows that the Bullets Wireless are really capavle of providing marginally better sound than what they're giving out of the box.
I can't imagine using a phone without V4a installed. It's just too good to not have.
